- The CAPiTA Mega Merc Snowboard - Selected for the Whitelines 100 Snowboard Awards
We’ll be the first to admit that some of snowboarding’s tech jargon has become pretty alien, but then again, Mercury is the first planet in the Solar System, so who better to champion rocketship-esque technology?
And that’s exactly what you’ll find here. The Mega Merc takes advantage of the creme de la creme of CAPiTA’s bag of tricks, wrapped up nicely in their iconic Merc outline. It’s Monsieur Longo’s board of choice so that should tell you all you need to know in terms of its favoured habitat and pop-ability.

Awesome review, thanks!
very good review, the details I needed
Cheers for the feedback!
I would like to know, for a intermidiate/advanced all mountain, between this board and the jones all mountain twin, what would be the main difference between the two. I am deciding which one to get. Not easy right?
I got a Super DOA 154 and i love it. But I think I will love this board even more, when i get it this season.
It's pretty special. We loved it!
My buddy has a super DOA from 2 seasons ago, and I like it. I’ve got last year’s Mega Merc, and it’s the best directional twin I’ve ever ridden.
Super responsive and ridiculously poppy without being stiff or chattery, but strong enough that it never feels like the tail will fold on a big landing or like it can’t get you out of a sticky situation.
And it just feels telepathic in responding to your inputs
I joined the club too 🤙🏽
I am not sure which snowboard to pick out of these three:
Capita Mega Merc
Capita BSOD
K2 Alchemist
I am an expert rider with the following riding styles:
- bomb down groomer going at high speeds (very rarely paired with a little indie grab or so)
- carve deep in mid to big turns at high speeds
- when conditions allow go off piste in powder, or off piste besides groomer inbetween treues/through wood
(very rarely doing little tricks, 180’s and switches); but finally it must be considered that these perfect pow days become more and more rare -> then it’s left to bombing groomers
- After half day riding groomers and piste usually get messy and bumpy so the Board should handle crud and chunder like a charm.
Do you have any final advise?
THX,
Andi
How did you like the ultras on this board? I’m a size 11 boot and currently have large stratas but there is some overhang. Might go with a medium ultra. Any help is appreciated!
What size would you recommend for size 11 US boot, 175 lbs, 5'11"?
good review. Do you recommend a wide version of this board for a US 11.5 boot, or do you think a 159 would be sufficient?
Ooh, you're right in that awkward middle ground (or, to put a positive spin on it, right on the sweet spot of having two choices!). It's a bit of a personal preference. I generally ride stiffer boots, and I'm quite tall, so I tend to create higher edge angles when I'm carving and prefer wide size boards (I'm a US 11.5 also). Some riders also prefer that extra width and stability under foot for landings too.
If you go for the 159, you might find the board feels every so slightly more agile and reactive in between turns, as it's easier to flex it through the waist. But it'll be subtle. Especially as you're right between the two sizes. Remember, a little bit of overhang over the heel and toe edges is a good thing, it allows you to generate more leverage and control over the sidecut!
You'll be fine on either size, but I'd probably opt for the 158W in your case.
Thanks for the positive feedback, glad you like the vid!
Hi! I am looking for advice regarding size of the Mega Mercury (155 or 157). I currently ride on a Amplid Paradigma (2010) 159. I mainly ride on groomers, carving and some jups/side hits. Sometimes powder but not often in park. I am 6" tall, weigh 170-175 LBS and have shoe size US 9. I am leaning towards the 155 due to my shoe size but do you think that I will have enough stability on higher speeds and length for carving as I come from a 159 board (flex 6, directional twin, camrocker and waist widt 250mm)? On the other side the 157 might be wide and feel to big. Thank you in advance for your advice! Kind regards, Sander
Great review! Can’t decide between the super DOA and Mega Merc. Which one would you pick if you mainly ride east coast so not that much powder? Also what size in either of those boards? 6’, 175lbs, 10.5 boots. Thanks
Mega merc at least has death grip for edge tech. The black snowboard of death is something to look at too.
so sick
Hey, what do you think. How this beast performe in a banked slalom? Is this a good choice?
Wow beautiful
I've got the regular Capita Mercury in a 158w riding with a size 12 boot at 195 lbs. Do you think I might be too heavy for this board? Wondering if I should have sized up.
I'm riding mercury line from 2014, I'm same weight as you but probably smaller with 10.5 boot. I'm riding 159 and for next mercury I'm taking 160. You should definitely take at least 160w. If you are more into aggresive fast riding or straight jumps I would consider to go for even bigger size. If not then 160w will be match for you. You will see big difference in quality of riding.
What’s it like on steep terrain and tight spots like trees? With the torsional rigidity does it make it slow edge to edge at slower speeds? I’m trying to decide between this and a YES Standard, coming from a 18 DOA
It's great on steep terrain! Really stable, responsive and solid on edge. We didn't find it super stiff torsionally to be honest. CAPiTA give it a 6.5/10, and the original Mercury is a 6/10. The DOA is a little softer and more freestyle specific, so you'll notice a step up from that, but it's still a really intuitive and fun to ride snowbaord.
The YES. Standard is a bit more freestyle focussed, and the MidBite will make it pretty reactive through the waist (so nice and easy for tight turns in the trees). We really love the Standard, but the Mega Merc is a pretty big step up in terms of the premium construction and materials. Hope that helps.
@@WhitelinesSnowboarding thanks for the reply, I’m just waiting for the mega merc to be in my local store and I’ll demo them both. I had the Super DOA last season but I couldn’t get on with it at all in tight spots, it felt really slow edge to edge at slower speeds
Hey,
Awesome shredding!! ... and, great detailed review of the MMerc.
Wondering if I could get your advice please?
I currently have an old 157 Freeride Inca board, which I've out grown , experience - wise a while ago, and now that it boots me out on my carves.
I'm 5'11", with boots size ranging from 11.5 - 12 ( depending on the brand) .... currently I have a pair of Burtons 11.5 size - measuring 32.3cm from heel to toe.
So, am wondering which size with the Mega Merc should i get - 156W or 158W?
Tks heaps
Also, i currently weigh 95kgs ~ 209lbs
This review is clean AF! What's your boots & bindings set up?
Bindings are Union Ultras and I think the boots are DEELUXE Team ID LTDs
@@noahtodd9524 Thanks! I appreciate it!
@@markkamish6705 Thanks dude. And yep - eagled eyed Noah is spot on with the products!
How does this compare to the capita mercury 22?
I’m getting this board with union atlas pro bindings. I’m an advanced all mountain rider and want a set up that’s versatile for all conditions from ice to powder. Do you have any boot recommendations to go with this set up?
It’s been a while since I got new gear haha
Nidecker Altai - I have mercury line from 2014. Altai are 7/10 but you will love the stability at higher speed.
What did you choose and can you recommend it?
Mega or Yes Greats for all mountain freestyle? Trying to improve spinning and switch. Currently have a Whatever beyond medals and Dancehaul. Love the Dancehaul but not the best for switch, not liking 3bt much so planning on selling. Kinda just want one board, but if having a greats and Dancehaul far outweigh a mega merc I guess id go that route
Shred the gnar. 🤩🤩🤩🤩🎃🎃
I’m torn between this and the super doa. Which one 😅
Yap that is the board I want
What’s the difference between the mega death and mega mercury?
Man, I am torn between this and the super doa… this looks way more suitable for my riding style but I also have an aviator 2.0 and I am afraid it may be too similar to the mega… please help!! 😅🙏🏻
Good friend and very good rider have aviator. He would definitely now choose Mercury instead. Mercury has some benefits when riding powder over DOA. Mercury it is.
Can't decide between bataleon Goliath+ or capita mega Merc , would be awesome if you guys made a comparison!
I’m in the same spot! Both look like great all mtn boards
go with the mega merc. this thing craps on the goliath😊
I hesitate between the katana and the atlas for this board.
Do you have any recommendations?
The katana look more comfortable and more feeling about the board.
In any case guys, you Rock!!!! Thanks for the review
Either will pair well. I'd go Katana if you want more lateral play and Atlas if you want to be more "locked in".
@@nicklarson801 thanks you very much 🥰
Rode both of them. Katana is charging machine. Mercury is more versatile and playful.
I got 158w combined with Union atlas FC. Oh man, that’s way too much for me, I am gonna step down from the FC and use a slightly softer binding, hopefully by then I could enjoy this board more
Atlas Pro or the regular Atlas binding could be a great shout, for sure!
mine is with falcor
@@user-gp1eu2pg7b I just bought a pair of Force highback to replace the carbon ones, shouldn’t buy the FC at first place. normal Atlas should be better suited for me. 😅
Yikes, how experienced would you say you are? Im waiting for a 160w on atlas bindings 😱
How does this stake up again the Capita Black Snowboard of death ?
Bro, I'm torn between this and the bataleon goliath plus!! Help me out please 🙏
Oh god, now I'm torn too! Let's start with the biggest difference between the two - camber profiles. If you feel strongly about Triple Base Tech (either good or bad) then base your decision on that. The Mega Merc felt incredibly lightweight, and super stable on edge, but it doesn't feel overly stiff, it's just a pretty reactive snowboard - loads of energy and quick to respond to inputs. The Goliath Plus is also an incredible all-mountain option, but the 3BT makes everything feel very smooth and progressive between turns. Such a close call - what one are you leaning towards?
@@WhitelinesSnowboarding Initially I'm leaning towards the capita due to its slightly more aggressive ride which suits my style, but saying that I have bataleon in my blood, from my first board the evil twin I bought back in 2002 I've since had a further 4 bataleon boards but as I get older and want a more directional all mountain rather than a true twin freestyle it's the first time I'm thinking do I make the change now? I like what I know yet also like the unknown and new journey
Hi. Intermediate rider here. 5'10, 170 lbs, Size US 10M boots.
What would be a good size for me? Was initially stuck between 155 vs 157.
I probably spend 70-80% exploring the whole resort looking for natural features, and love side hits, carving, bombing down. The rest 20-30% at the park with just basic jumps and rails nothing too technical though would love to get more park time more proficient.
Thanks in advance for your time.
You should go 159 then. Only go other sizes if you ride park too
Mega Merc or Bataleon Goliath
I see that’s 157 you’re riding, how tall are you?
