  • Quick video on why I think Eclipses and Retaliators will have limited use during the upcoming Xenothreat Incursion finale event (not the Xenothreat Overdrive), which I think will start this weekend.
    Besides going in with heavy fighters and larger ships, let me know how else you think we can take down those Idrises (or Javelin, depending on which side you play)!
    Are you ready? Let me know what other tactics we can use too!

    They priortize size 9 torps, so even if you have 20 heavy/light fighters form your side surrounding and distracting them the torps will still never hit the target. To make it worst not only were size 9 torp speeds nerfed, the launch distance was increased to 5k. So, now there is no way to hit a ship (especially npc) with a torp (size 5 and above.)
    The only way to get a torp kill now is to exploit AI behavior. And 'lure' them to activate their QT. That takes both weapons and shields offline, but the question is is it long enough. Because at a little over 500m/s with a 5km minimum launch distance, your looking at a just under 10s travel time, with the torpedo blaring at them the whole time. So, unless the AI bugs they would drop QT, and likely still have aprox 5 seconds to kill the torp. To compound this according to patch notes they increased the power of countermeasures. But they did buff the flight time so up to 45 seconds. But since they will never live longer that 7 buffing the flight time to 45 makes no sense at all.
    And since we have no way to stealth a torp, increase a torps shields or armor, and torps have always been easily distracted. There are more highly effective ways to counter a torp than anything else in game. You can sit still and launch counter measures or noise, (both of which you have far more of than any ship will have size 5's or larger.) you can shoot it down, you can do a flyby (since torps take time to turn if you fly by them, they can loose their targets.), you can just out run them. (If you have even 35 seconds of boost well the torp will never make it to you.) and lastly you can shoot those flimsy torps down. If a torp ever hits you, it's completely your fault, there is litterly nothing currently in the game which can even give the pilot launching the torp a chance of a hit if you do anything to stop it.
    The main/only selling feature of the eclipse and retaliator has been removed. These ships are dead weight in your fleet now. I have to wonder who at CIG tested this. Sure the numbers look good on paper, and you can argue the idea all day, but someone should give things like this a try before pushing to live. I really want to back cig up on this, but I honestly can't figure out a way to do so here.

      Agree… am sad… I own both torpedo boats… they need to rebalance this but I feel on problem is that most of the player base fly fighters and don’t care for torps…

      @@starrusgaming I agree. But I think its worse than that.
      They are trying to balance such that its not posiable to instantly win a conflict. And I get that. But the issue is, that the 1shot kill is the whole point of the eclipse. If it was meant to fight it would be interceptor tuned, if it was meant to be a bomber then it would have a ton of health like the retaliator. If it was meant to stick arround it would have more ammunition. Basically, by doing this they are saying that the eclipse was a mistake, and they want people to forget it. And the stealth snipe is one of the favorite roles of many many players so they can't get rid of it now. Which makes balancing it into a good place difficult.
      Im focusing on the eclipse because the retaliator at least can be re-configured to other roles. But i will agree its design makes it less effective at its alternative roles. It was sesigned to be a torpedo bomber, and that is what it does best.
      The issue is, that either you render these ships useless by nerfing these weapons, as they have in this patch, or give up on the idea that you can't have a 1 shot kill. Either that or you need to create mechanics that allow for a good in-between, which its obvious they are nowhere close too. Right now its all or nothing.

    When game finishes (soonTM) and “death of space man” is on, death from raming should be weakening in hospital but after a month.

      @@starrusgaming Done that already, I was just unlucky that my shiny new xenothreat hammerhead did blow up because … drumroll
      … a player in an Eclipse with torps blow my Hammerhead up, despite it being beautiful, new and fully armed and with stolen NPCs in the turrets. Shame on him. And shame on the other NPC ships, who start shooting at their former allies the second I set foot on the ship. ;-)

    I have a 0% hit rate on all torpedoes i have fired. Literally. None. Land.
    I don't know why they're still in the game

    • @starrusgaming
      @starrusgaming  3 месяца назад

      Exactly why I am not happy. I’m ok with a 1 in 3 or even a 1 in 6 hit rate… we can’t even chain or burst fire our torps sequentially like missile to saturate the AA guns…

  • @jodomarj9063
    @jodomarj9063 3 месяца назад +2

    I don't agree with this because in real life people would have to be alerted to incoming torpedo than rush to get into the turrets in time to take it out. Surprise should definitely still be a valid tactic.

    • @starrusgaming
      @starrusgaming  3 месяца назад

      I agree! The whole doctrine for dive bombing centres around saturating the AA gunners too. I hope they somehow rebalance this.

      That’s good then! I’ve always liked the idea of coordinated fleet action including bombing runs. Yeah… bugs and lag will be the bane of the event. But this is Star Citizen so we should be prepared.

      @@starrusgaming If you coordinate, most likely the Torpedos will get trough anyway. When doing incursions before during Overdrive missions, torp runs still did work like a charm if the Hammerheads were already engaged with fighters or gunboats.
