- This is my third time feeding a baby of mine and both my daughter and I are better at it than I was with my first baby. Here are all the tips I have for you and some footage of me actually feeding my squishy little girl.
It's hard to believe this is the same baby who started her life as a premie with a feeding tube. This baby can EAT. All babies are different and I really believe that with my whole heart, some love food, others aren't so interested. I'll share some of the basics for introducing solids into your baby's life but just like with the formula vs. breastmilk thing... fed is best. Feed your baby. Love your baby. Don't get too hung up on whether or not you're doing it "right".

“All I know is I have three kids and I feed them.” YES 🤩😂😂
Here is what we did for a very fussy eater. We started with purees at 6 months but he just hated it. 1 bite and he was done...no matter the food. So after a month we switched to mashed up table food (whatever we were eating) and it showed some promise. He'd eat maybe 3 bites of foods. But my baby still was not very interested in food and he rejected almost everything equally, even really yummy foods like banana. We figured out it wasn't a taste thing but was actually a lack of familiarity with textures. So allowing him to play and make giant messes actually helped him become accustomed to food and it's various textures. The thinking is that, eventually, while playing with food, he will put some in his mouth. And he did! It took about a month of messy messy meal "play" 3 times a day but by 1 year old he was suddenly a champion eater overnight. Now he loves eating. Just a different approach that might help out people with fussier eaters! Think about it...if you've never seen a food before and have no frame of reference for what it is and why you should put it in your mouth, you aren't going to immediately put it in your mouth. You're going to inspect it. You'll smell it, look at it, and poke it with a fork to see how it reacts. A baby needs to be able to inspect what they're eating to decide they're ok with it. So let them be messy! It will help them eat better in the future.
Jess, you give me so much peace about navigating mom things that make me feel so anxious. The fact that you're able to do what you feel is best and make mistakes and things still be okay make me feel like I really can do this. I appreciate you so so much. 💛
being a mom isn’t easy but you’ll grow as a person. it can be scary at times. I have two children 5 and 3 and my biggest tip to moms is ponder on who your support system will be even before conception. You’ll be very tired and I WOULD HAVE LOVED to have had communicated my needs to friends and family prior so I knew I could settle in as a mother. Also, mela train that mother. 🤗 I of course didn’t know what I know now and let’s just say, I survived but I am worse for wear. I hope that doesn’t scare you. I just want to be real and offer my wisdom. If I ever have a 3rd I will have a doula for birth and afterwards for emotional support too. I could go on and on. but I won’t. 🥰😘 Every mom has different strengths, weaknesses, and needs. I have no idea why I didn’t have grandmothers who were in the know and offering this wisdom.
BEST MOM AWARD 🥇!!! Because you are relaxed!!!!! The best Mom is the loving relaxed Mom!!!!! There is no PERFECT way to be a Mom-except that your children KNOW THEY ARE LOVED!!! And YOUR CHILDREN KNOW THAT!!! And you’re showing a generation of Moms and Dads who believe every detail of knowledge they read is a must for them-they scold you if you don’t do it the way they learned or heard it Should be-and freak out if things aren’t done “perfectly”-it’s very sad…THANK GOD you are making videos to help parents see-LOVE AND COMMON SENSE are all you need!!!
The happiest healthy baby is a LOVED BABY!!!💖🙌💖🙌💖🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆
I love how chilled this video is. Nonjudgmental and honest is the way to go when we are living in a world where moms are just judged about every single thing ❤️
Jess can you do a video on potty training, and night time potty training? I'm in the thick of it with my 2 year old son with a 6 month old and I could use all the tips and tricks you have!
What a little character Jules is 😂 she's going to be a funny girl. Loved the humour in this video, so fun. I'll be returning in 5 months when it's my baby's turn for this!
I laughed so hard when she felt the need to define that it's the baby without clothes during a feeding and not her XD
I just adore you! I found you when I was pregnant and now my little boy is 5 months. Thank you so much for making everything so relatable and making me feel that even if I feel like I'm getting it wrong, it's okay.
Mate! great video. Thank you for making it fun & seem less overwhelming. Haha! naked dinners might be a good idea here- so much food is thrown, nothing eaten..and that's just me!
Oh my gosh I LOVE it when you do these videos. I am 7 months pregnant almost and your videos are so informative and brilliant, thank you mama.
Love this! Thank you for showing so many aspects of baby feeding. Also love the way this video was filmed
This is the video that helped me feel much more comfortable with solids. You and your baby’s confidence was so good for me to see and visualize my baby eating and having fun with it. Now I look forward to (most of the time) lol making her meals. Thank you! 🤍
aaaaah good morning! :) I’ve been watching old videos for a while excited to see a new one even though I’m way past all this lol! My son is 19 months in a few days! Jules is SO BIG omgggg!
Jess I love love love this series so much
Ahh! My regular confidence booster. Thank you Jess!
I think you are doing a great job, and Jules looks blissfully happy. And that's all that matters, right!
Wow first 3 seconds of the video and I already love it. So honest and real. Haha this is awesome!
Yes I needed this video now :-) thank you!! Perfect moment!
Been waiting on this kind of video! Thank you!
Wow, Jules has grown so much! She's adorable 🥰
My baby turned 6 months a couple of weeks ago and we've been doing baby led weaning, it's the recommended approach in the UK which I know is (mostly) different to America! It's so much fun, but SO messy, and I feed my baby in just her nappy too whenever I can 😂
It's always interesting to see how other people do it, thanks for sharing!
My lord I love Jules. She is hilarious with her food
I hate that RUclips deleted how many “dislikes” each video gets because your videos are like 99.9% “likes”!
Jules is a hilarious food savage 😂
Thank you girls for making this video! By the way she is so cute! What a great eater. Hope my little guy loves food as much as she does. Going on 5 months on the 16th! Yippeee!
The most enthusiatic eater ever!
Just amazing, your approach is amazing!!! Jules is my hs nickname!! ❤
Thank you for making this video!
my focus with food, I try to get 80% healthy and whole foods and 20% whatever. I used to be so so concerned about all their food being healthy and then one day I got so worn out. I was so worried my babies would choke and I was honestly a little paranoid. mom hack: smoothies. I make my kids smoothies every other day to get extra vitamins. I also get a DHA oil and a liquid vitamin at natural grocers and add it to apple sauce or pure orange juice.
Jules and I make the same noises when we eat... hahaha. Her little growls😂🤍
Btw, I love your content & your family is so beautiful
Babies can have shellfish before one, it’s a high allergen food so it’s best to introduce it early unless your pediatrician says otherwise
Her hair ❤️
Does your baby eat spinach soup??? 😛 you're so funny I love your videos
I like you! Thank you for being just you!
Modelling is a great way to encourage your baby to eat. Sitting and eating with them and having the same food. Take the pressure off you and babe and let them just explore food without the need to eat perse.
My pediatrician told me at my son's 4 month check up that I could start introducing pureed fruits and veggies, to slowly work our way to 3 meals... I feel like most people find 4 months old to be too young... He definitely seems interested in food, and I don't think I'd do anything as an actual meal yet, but just letting him have a few bites of things seems ok... I feel like my older kids I was told to start with cereal at 4 months... Maybe I have an old school doctor...
Love this!! Jules is precious and such a great eater!!
My son is 10 months and he loves to eat but we think he gets bored being in his high chair because he will start getting upset in the chair but still eat when he gets out and sits in my lap. Anyone have thoughts about making high chair time better?
I also wanted to mention our pediatrician said it’s best to offer allergens early which I think is a change to older mindsets around allergens. Nut butters and shellfish should be fine.. just watch for reactions! And obviously check with your own pediatrician on this and don’t just listen to some random mom (me) on the internet ❤️
My pediatrician said the same
6:15 yeeeah, I’m watching this video for the second time because I had to stop as my son got carrot and toast bits all over everything within a meter radius… perhaps no clothes is the way to go
They can have blue top cows milk cooked in things or put into porridge, they cannot drink it straight before 12 months 😊
My son was and IS the same way he will sit in his high chair and go for a LONG time!!! 😂😂😂

Hi Jess, I’m a new mom of a 1 month old! I’d love to see a video about baby skincare - you mentioned Jules has eczema right now, and we’re currently dealing with eczema and cradle cap. Would love to hear your thoughts! Any products you recommend?
That’s a great thought! I have heard good things about Tubby Toddy (i think that’s what it’s called?) but Im currently using Texas Tellow Baby butter (our friends started that business) and it’s actually helping! I’ll keep you posted though because we just started being consistent about putting the cream on her ❤️ congratulations on your baby!!
@@jess_hover I’ve actually ordered the Tubby Todd all over ointment, so we’ll see!
Tubby Todd is amazing!!!
Hi where are your shorts from?
My baby hates food 🙃 he’s 9 months and gags or spits out everything. If you give him and finger foods he just plays with it and purées he blows raspberries and spits it everywhere. Struggling with this season we’re going through
Not to be nosey but I wanted to share with you an incredible account I follow on IG that has brought me great confidence and knowledge in feeding my 7.5 month old. Gagging and spitting out the food, from my understanding, is totally normal : ) The account is Solidstarts, they have a website as well. I just wanted to share because as moms we already stress so much- food doesn't have to add to that! The fact that he plays with it is great and hes doing just what he should be doing :)
My daughter did this with fruit that has very different textures, take a couple months off and try them again
My maternal health nurse told me food under 12 months is just for fun/learning. Bonus if they eat it.
@@Feelinfine1987 Thanks for sharing.
Did your breast milk adjust to the times she nurses? Do you have to pump during the day at all to ensure she can still get those couple nursing sessions ? My supply dips during my cycle, but my son is only 4 months and I am NOT ready to stop, so we use formula also but I still keep my milk coming as much as I can, but I for see going to just a couple sessions here in the next month or 2 but I'm so afraid my milk will just be gone...
Scroll down to “dips in milk production during menstrual cycle”
www.nancymohrbacher.com/articles/2020/5/25/milk-production-and-menses-whats-the-connection
Also: When parents replace nursing or milk expression sessions with formula (or even expressed milk from their freezer stash), the milk that accumulates in their glands sends their body the signal to make milk slower. Many new parents are unaware that feeding formula without pumping can decrease their milk production.
@@lunacharles7821 that's a great article... Unfortunately no matter what I do my milk drops significantly with my menses... I was a power pumping fool my first couple cycles... Unfortunately formula and freezer stash were essential... But, thankfully baby and I still enjoy a couple nursing sessions a day and any night time feeding that is required... I've found that the Body Armor drink helps to boost my production some, and the calcium/mag can work... I didn't get a huge boost but it helps me maintain a little better during the week of my period.
My son won't feed himself. He just plays with his food unless I feed it to him
Playing with the food is great. It's how they learn about texture. Also completely normal. Modelling is also really great.
Love these baby 101 videos. My little guy just turned 7 months old and he’s still only on purées and baby oatmeal. I really wanted to try baby led weaning but the few times I’ve given him a big chunk of banana or avocado he’s choked and it scares me 😖 any tips? Do i just have to keep trying until he figures it out or wait until he’s older? Also, when you say you only breastfeed morning and before bed, do you do bottles during the day or just food? Just wondering because my baby he’s been disinterested in nursing lately so my supply has taken a hit. I try to replace it with bottle feedings now but he doesn’t seem to like that too much either. Anyway, hope you’re having a great day! ❤️
My baby gagged a lot when we introduced more solid foods than pureés, she even threw up a couple times, but it got better with time, tbh.
She got used to eating more solid foods and gagged less over time. Maybe mashing it up or thinning the coherency with water may help?
@@thefluffymarshmallo thanks i appreciate the advice! I feel like he’ll love finger food when he can figure out the chewing part haha he wants to do everything himself!
Genera don't worry, you are not alone. But you are a super mom that knows her child the best so just take your time and follow your and your babies own pace. In my country led weaning is not that popular yet so everybody are feeding their babies pures and that is also fine.. Purees and formula or breastfeed until about one year. So first of all pressure off. If you want baby led weaning to work just take your time, make foods extra smooshie and try controlling first by yourself how much he acctualy swallow at a time. I let my baby hold the piece but I also put my hand on top so he doesn't take to big of a part in. If he just coughs and has gag reflux that is a good sign that he is learning so don't take that as a choking.. Sorry for any grammatical mistakes. Not an English native speaker. Also regarding bottle feedings. Book says we should make sure that formula or breastfeed is their main food for a year but every parent does it differently. I was fed only cow milk for three months and then mainly purees with only one or two milk meals a day (and usually milk mixed with oatmeal). But my sister did with all of her three kids according to book breastfeeding and formula where their main meals during the day and led weaning or pures only as extra beetwen. So that is one more sign to do as you feel best for your precious little one. Don't force him just find a compromise.. You are a great mom and sorry for a long answer but I just had same concirnes as you do :-)
Gagging is normal! Keep trying and follow safe feeding guidelines on how to cut foods and cook them (mush between fingers, cut into strips, quarter or smush round foods, toast breads etc). 💙
I’m curious too because breast milk or formula should be their main source of nutrition until 1 years old, so if she’s only breastfeeding at night and morning I hope she’s giving bottles during the day as well!
I love your Videos. But the you Tube is full of crazy People. Please dont Show her bud. 😢
You look like Jennifer Anniston
Anyway shes a baby 🤣🤣
