    Brand new dad of an 8 days old healthy baby girl Stella. Tummy time just came naturally to me: the first time I held my baby at the hospital, I sat in a recliner and put her on my chest, I looked her in the eyes as she tried to lift her head up and my heart just melted. It is truly a blessing and a privilege to be this precious little girl's dad.

Hoping I can be of as much help to my beautiful new family. I’ve went from watching vehicle mod videos to tummy time videos. I can proudly say I feel 100% complete and accomplished in life!! Pediatric OT here! This video is so great and gives such simple and doable information! One thing I would add is that *ideally* tummy time should be done on a flat, hard surface, so working up to doing more time on the floor is preferred over using a boppy or rolled up blanket, but those supports are such a great way to get started if your child has a hard time on the floor at first. Thanks so much for sharing this info Nekole! ❤️

    My baby initiated it himself when he was 14 days old, and
    he does it all on his own when we lay him on our chests skin-to-skin. We lay him on our chests a lot, especially because Laid-back nursing is my favorite. He does it for however long he wants to and starts and ends it himself. We're blessed that he doesn't find it frustrating and initiates it himself multiple times a day.

    I already feel like I'm failing as a mother 😭
    I will start tomorrow, he was a premature baby and he's been a very sleepy baby, so awake and alert times have been rare. He's started being awake more now and so I cannot wait to get him started.

    My first born HATED tummy time. I would always try, and he would just lay his little head down and cry hysterically. As much as I tried and as many different things that i tried, tummy time never worked with him. He ended up being delayed in the gross motor area, took forever to roll over, stand up, and walk, and I was told his muscles are less developed than other kids his age. I now have my second and I'm praying things work better with her.

    • @PresAdams-bz2ep
      @PresAdams-bz2ep 4 года назад +4

      Personally, I think brand new babies are too young for acrobatics. They are held pretty constantly when they are just out of the womb and new, so they can lie on your chest and lift their little head there for a few weeks. I have never had a new baby that would put up with being on their stomachs while awake. I understand the principle behind it, though.

    • @RetailTherapyAddict
      @RetailTherapyAddict 4 года назад +3

      @@PresAdams-bz2ep I never did tummy time with my son as a newborn, I really didn't see the point as he lifted his head and used his core strength while being held and so many other instinctive ways. He natrually progressed to wanting and enjoying being on his belly and even sleeping on his tummy. I get the idea too but I don't know if that's what would've caused the delays in your child? My son has never had any issues in his gross motor skills or anywhere else physically and he never did tummy time as a newborn. All the best with your second child and trust your mama instincts 👍

    Tummy time while breastfeeding is perfect! Or tummy time while contact napping or while wearing baby is perfect I have not seen evidence to suggest tummy time is helpful for anything unless baby has found their way onto their tummy by themselves. Cultures that don't do this do not see any development delays

    First time dad here. Our little boy was in intensive care for 3 months with gastroschisis and has made an amazing recovery but he still has a recducable hernia in his stomach, he's a little behind and still isn't able to get his shoulders up at all and he isn't a huge fan of being on his tummy. If anyone has any tips I would be so grateful 🙂

    The ball is a great idea. My 6 week old loves tummy time. I love it after feeding, she burps easier in the reclined position on my chest. Great video

    Is it a coincidence that infants are attracted to high contrast like black and white, and our eyes are usually high contrast, usually a mix of dark lashes as a border, white and sometimes a light colour for iris (although brown is the most common colour) and always a black pupil? Almost like a target or bulls eye. Its like perfectly designed to draw their attention
