Thank you for your video, first time Dad here. I never knew tummy time was important luckily my boy is only 15wks old so we started tummy time today. He managed to stay for 4 mins at first attempt, we would rest and continue when he wakes up.
Thank you everyone for commenting! In similar tummy time videos a lot of the comments were about how their child enjoyed it. My daughter is 5.5 months and hated tummy time, she still hates it but can tolerate it for 2-3 minutes. I always felt like a failure because of her lack of interest in it, but now seeing everyone's comments I feel less alone. Sometimes as a parent we can feel isolate but we mustn't forget that our children are individuals too. They have likes and dislikes just like us.
my 4.5 month old gets abut 5 minutes max, he HATESSSS it hahaha. It doesn't seem to matter how much I do to distract him he's like NOPE. He will hold his head really well for a few minutes and then he just lies like sack of potatoes! He loves being held in a sitting position and has no issues holding his head then, but tummy? No chance!
Well my almost 3 month baby is like this but she won't even last 1 min on tummy time but siting with support than shes happy on almost 3 months 😢😢@SparkleandPop
Thank you so much for making this video! I have been struggling with my son with tummy time for 4 months. Before I watched this video, I could only get him to do tummy time for 5 minutes maximum before he would start screaming. After watching this video, I started doing chest-to-chest with him and some of the other methods, and now he actually enjoys tummy time and will tolerate it for 20 minutes or more! Thank you so much!
I love Emma's videos. We are still working on Tummy Time but I mix up the different types of TT like the football hold and laying back with her on my chest. Her torticollis cleared up and she can get her shoulders off the floor. Literally baby steps. Keep at it fam, don't feel defeated.
How was your baby before with the torticollis. Mine has it too. But now have now problem with rotating and tilting his head after lots of stretches. But somehow he hates tummy time idk if his shoulder is uncomfortable or something. Does torticollis affect tummytime
My baby absolutely hates tummy time 🙈she's 4 months old and can still only do 2 minutes here and there (multiple times a day) so, this video has been so re-assuring / helpful to know different positions, thank you! x
I feel like I’m a horrible mom because I’ve not been doing tummy time each awake period. I thought 3 times a day at 5 mins was appropriate for her age 😭 so thankful for this channel!
Don't worry that is just a number to do I did tummy time when I remembered with my son he gets stronger by time when they start seeing around also so don't thing wrong about yourself my son is 2 he is fine
Thank you so much for these tips! My baby hates tummy time and he's about to be four months old! So I'll try to do these tummy time positions on him :)
Agreed! My baby is 2 months and 3 weeks old and he hates to lay on his stomach .. i was already getting worried because of how much time he's supposed to spend on his stomach and how much he hates it
I’m so glad I found this video. I’m going to try all these tips because my daughter needs more help using her arms to lift herself up. These tips are helping me know what I need to do help her.
Im so glad i found some more options! We are at 6 months and our first was already crawling. But our second absolutely hates tummy time. He holds his head well but hates his tummy. Rolls over then laughs haha
Thank you 🙏! I’m glad i found this video, now i know i was not totally failing it, i just need to add more tries and maybe shorten the time, to make it less stressful for my boy. He hates it but when the compliment comes he smiles big time 😁😁
I'm so glad I came across this channel too! This is my first child that I have who's 1 month old now so I'm still learning a lot of things myself and learning about my daughter. Every child is different but you got this! 😊
Thank you! My baby hates tummy time and I have been hesitant, feeling like I "force" her whenever I try. I will be trying everything you are suggesting. Thank you!
Tips to keep baby in tummy time when they have learnt to roll from tummy to back? My first son once he learned to roll would constantly roll out of tummy time and play on his back until I put him back on his tummy, however he also rolled back to tummy before tummy to back. My second son has started rolling out of tummy time at 2 months old and he clearly needs more tummy time for his age. Any tips to keep him on his tummy other than constantly rolling him back which just makes him mad would be great
Same here girl this is my third baby and he is the only one who has ever given me trouble on tummy time so I’m trying to figure out what I’m doing wrong with this one because it has been 12 years since I’ve had a baby until now! Luckily he’s only 2 months so I know it’ll get easier. I just need to stay consistent
Thanks for this video! Especially the instructions on how to get a baby in the tummy time position are very useful. Most videos do not explain this clearly.
Thank you, this video was very helpful! Do you have guidance or pointers on how to do the transfer into the tummy-to-tummy and lying on the lap positions?
Hi Emma, thank you so much for all your great content, I've found it super useful! My daughter is 6 months old and can roll from tummy to back, which has basically meant the end of tummy time on the floor because the minute I put her in that position, she rolls out of it (she's always disliked it, but now she can rescue herself!). She has great head and neck control and is beginning to sit independently, but I know from your other videos that tummy time is still important for continuing to strengthen her muscles and helping her learn to crawl. Would you still suggest these modified tummy time positions (eg in the boppy, where she can't roll over to get herself out of it)? Or are these more for younger babies? Thanks again!
Thanks for the best vedio on tummy time,my grand daughter is 6 months old and hates tummy time,we will definitely try ur tips.she is also having flat behind head, can u suggest some tips for making it round.
My advice: If She is 6 months old and she struggles to lift her head go to the doctor. He has better knowledge. If you wait longer the treatment becomes harder. A Baby should lift his head by 2-3 months and after 4 months it should be easy for a baby. Tummy time is very important for its core musces. These muscles are important for turning, uplifting ,sitting, crawling and walking. To remove the flat head do a lot tummy time. So she is not lying on her head anymore. Also try to turn her sleeping cot. Most babies look to the windows when they are in the bed. If your baby is still sleeping on the same side there might some bones stuck. A doctor will fix that fast.
My baby is almost 3 months I struggled a lot but now I saw this video so every second count I just got to give her several tummy times I felt like I wanted to just give up cause she's not even 1 min than she wants to cry😢😢 then when I put her to sit she's happiest baby ever 😭 this video gave me a bit hope
i find your channel really helpful for us first time moms. Just a question because my baby is premie when is the best time to do tummy time? Her actual age now is 1 month and 19 days but her corrected age is one day old. hope you would find my inquiry and thanks in advance for your response. God bless you more
My baby has infantile spasm. Now she’s 8mo and has head lag. Wish i found this video earlier. Can try These tricks later on. To improve her head lag and head control.
Even my son’s physical therapist who is suppose to be treating his Torticollis hasn’t helped us with tummy time nor made suggestions my son is 7 months old and was a nicu baby and didn’t go to his tummy until almost 3 months he hated it and to this day still does but now he can roll over when he’s put on it and lack of strength in his stomach and back muscles makes him hate sitting up for extended time therefore teaching him to sit up is hard because he arches his back and wants to lay down he doesn’t have any issues other than the issues that come with Torticollis he’s just stubborn any advice (with him being 7 month old)on keeping him on his belly and to keep him from rolling would be so appreciated also advice on the sitting up anything I can do to help him love your videos very informative!
You’re showing these examples with babies who have some head control already so obviously they’re going to enjoy it and be better at it. Do you have any tips for babies who are not at this stage yet?
The best tip to kick off tummy time and breastfeeding the right way is to allow the newborn to do the breast crawl to latch the first time. Activates the neck muscles and they latch correctly. Hardest part is not helping more than they actually need!
Hi I'm Mikaela I'm so grateful and thankful, happy too, now that I came across your channel 💕 much love and appreciation for you sharing your knowledge and experience as im a first time mom and need all the help I can get 💌 happy knowledge-based momma happy healthy baby 💖
I have tried all these tricks with my now 7 month old from very early on up through now and he still absolutely hates tummy time. He lasts maybe 2 minutes on his tummy til he screams and maybe 5 minutes on his back. He only likes playing on the floor if he's sitting upright. I tried laying him on his belly on my stomach today but he knows it's a trick.
Hi @Amy Horton and @Lyric Voelle sounds like your little ones really don't like tummy time. If they are starting to sit up you can work on strengthening their arms and shoulders by placing their toys slightly out of reach (so they have to reach out and put weight through their arms).
do you have any tummy time tips for older babies that hate tummy time? my son is 6 months old and hates tummy time unless it's chest to chest or over his boppy pillow, if I put him down in the floor or the bed he'll only tolerate it for about 15 months tops, he also only rolls from his tummy to his back in that short time frame, but only once or twice. I'm not really sure how to work with him to last a bit longer or to start rolling more, but I practice rolling with him for as long as he can stand to be on his tummy
I got one !! This 5 month old absolutely hates it . We have a grand time being couch potatoes with his toys , but tummy time is a bummer . But I'm a babysitter not a mom . Baby-adult interaction with a babysitter is different . Any suggestions for babysitters ?
Hi. My little man is 18 weeks old and he hates tummy time most of the time. I’m lucky to get maybe 30 seconds of “happy tummy time” out of al the times I try throughout the day. I try to do it for 5 minutes each time as he just screams and gets stressed. I have tried all these techniques including mirrors, toys, support towel/pillow, etc. he sometimes rolls into his back but usually when we try tummy time on the bed instead of his floor play area. He also doesn’t like “floor play time” or being in the bouncer. Hi have to hold him all the time as when I do put him down he screams and cries. I feel like I’m doing it all wrong. I try not to always pick him up but it’s very hard. What should I do? Any support is greatly appreciated.
I am baby sitting my nephew, he is 3mnths now. He started lifting his head from 2 mnths. Now he does little bit tummy time, he lifts his head up and tries to move his legs. I am about to be a mom too. I wanna help him improve his development and i hope he starts walking before 1 yr. His sister who was little more chubby than him started walking at 1 yrs. He is lighter, i hope he can do better.
My son is 6 months and hates being on his tummy even now. He had major tummy issues from birth till about 4 months. He will go on his stomach for about 5 mins if I'm lucky. We've tried all your tips but nothing works. Hes now learnt to roll from front to back 🙈
My daughter is 7 months and still doesnt like it. When she uses her arms to support her body on her belly then shes making grunting noises like its heavy for her. And then gives up and tries to roll on her back or cries.
My son used to love tummy time, but after he was being pushed into tummy time in pt he decided he hated it. But if he roll into it himself he likes it for a few moments, then realizes he hates it. He'll do tummy time on other surfaces, like the couch, or even on a bag of mulch once. Any other recommendations for a change of surface? I'm going to try using a ball He can fet out of sitting but not into it.
Thanks for showing different tummy time positions... ma'am I want to ask you a different question. My baby is 4 month and 15 days old, but from a few days, she use to cry while I try to feed her with feeding bottle. She is taking NAN pro. What may be reason ?
Hi @Chandamita Sarma thanks for your comment. I am sorry I don't know why your little one would be crying during a feed. Hopefully you can figure it out soon.
Hi Emma. My baby is currently 3 mo and always licking the mat during tummy time instead of trying to lift her head. Is this okay? And how to make her stop licking anything under her head?
Hi Fayruz is she licking the ground because she is hungry or is it happening even when she isn’t hungry? You could try placing a rolled up towel under her chest or getting her to do tummy time when lying on a nursing pillow. This will raise her upper body and head which will make it hard to lick things. She might also be trying to explore toys and objects. Babies explore items and toys using their mouth at first because they don’t have the skills to manipulate the toys with their hands.
Hi Emma, even I'm facing the same problem with my 5months old baby. Though he is not hungry, he is licking the cloth. Even I'm playing toys to distract him but it's not working always.
Hi @Pri USA yep tummy time is the core activities babies do to work on strengthening the muscles required for rolling, crawling and sitting. I would recommend you continue tummy time until your baby can get around by crawling (whatever method they use). Even once your baby learns to sit up they should still have time in tummy time. If you just put your baby in sitting in the floor then your little one might get stuck in sitting as he/she is unable to more out of sitting onto the floor for crawling, rolling or tummy time.
My baby is 11 month. He still stuck in sitting. I tried to do Tummy time on him again, since he isnt Crawling. But when I put him in Tummy time position he always cries. I felt so bad for him. Especially when his preschool teacher always compare him with his classmate who is walking at 12 month. Thank you for the tips, gonna try this on him.
I’m a lil frustrated I started giving my son tummy time a little round three months because he has acid reflex really bad. Which causes him to have a lil loss in his weight. However, he does it for about a Good 2 minutes max than rolls over. Every single time even when I distract him he gets so excited and still rolls over lol. Whewww tummy time is a a lot of patience (smile)
Very helpful but I already do most of this and my lil guy still despises tummy time. He has almost no neck tho so wondering if that makes it a lot more difficult for him
@@EmmaHubbard what a pity I live in US. Would be a pleasure to see you as my baby's doc. I watch the videos you upload with a huge admiration and interest. Thank you for your time!
My baby will be four months old Nov 19 and can not lift her head on her tummy. I work on segmental rolling which she tolerates but trying to tuck her elbows under makes her angry. Recently the eye doctor said her retinas did not fully develop and her iris is smaller than normal. So vision is compromised. Is it too soon to get a referral for physical therapy?
Question, when do you do tummy time?? When Henry first wakes up he demands a feed and then by the time he’s not at risk of puking it’s almost time for bed again! Any support we put under he chest causes him to puke too. He’s almost 4 months old and we are only getting about 10 mins of tummy time a day as he just hates it, he doesn’t support himself with his elbows and has his arms out to the side like an areoplane
My son is 4 months and doesn't like tummy time.. we currently do between 10 to 15 mins.. he doesn't support with his.. put his head up for few 2nds and put it back down... don't jnownif I should be worried
Dear Emma, thank you for your usefull tips. My baby is 2 mo old & we did tummy time in traditional way which only last for less than 3 minutes in each session. How many time we should do tummy time a day and how long? Anyway, is it safe to carry my baby with a kangaroo carrier? He is still 2 mo old
I'm trying these all out but am having a hard time. Even when supported she hates traditional and lap positions, and falls asleep/doesn't even try to lift her head with the others 😭 I might have to put up with the screams for a while.
My son is 3 months (14 weeks) and he hates tummy time. He cries a lot after 5 minutes, is we even reach that time… many times it’s less. I’ve tried the rolled towel, a ball, football hold. He’s pretty strong with his neck because I hold him up when carrying him and he can hold his head with minimal support. Any other ways to help the baby like tummy time? We actually started OT but it’s only once a week.
My little boy is 10 months old and still hates it, we’ve tried everything at this point multiple times. Hopefully it doesn’t hamper his development too much.
My baby is 3 months old about to be 4 months in 2 weeks and she's barely learning to keep her head up. She refused to do tummy time. Plus since I'm just renting a really small room, I have just a bed for her to practice on. I have been trying these techniques, but I feel it's my fault she's behind on this milestone. She holds her head up but then spreads her arms and then places herself in Superman position. I hope I didn't put my baby behind because of this. I also suffer from an injury caused by the c-section which exhausts me to move around.
Hi @Chii V I would try not to worry. I am sure your little one will continue to get stronger in the tummy time position with short bursts of tummy time throughout the day. Also some time between 3 - 5 months of age babies start displaying the Landau reflex when they are lying on their tummy. This is when they lift their arms and legs off the ground as soon as they are on their tummy and lift their head. This is a normal reflex which is important for postural development. It sounds like this might be the reason she is doing the "superman position". Hope that helps!
Tried chest to chest with my breastfed baby ... he immediately started trying to nurse 😅 .. anything i put under him for support he tries to suck at it .. evwn his hands ! 😅😅😅
So true, the same is mine 😁 He is never happy, peaceful and settled after sleep, so he eats all the time during the "waking windows". He doesn't even have time for tummy. He is almost 10 weeks old... We try to encourage him in the process, but not for more than 1 minute, because he starts crying 😢
My daughter is 6 months old and royally hates tummy time, she screams like she’s in pain no matter how I try tummy time with her, I feel horrible but I try to get her tough it out for at least a minute. Is there anything I can do?
Hi Emma , my baby girl is 5 month and half corrected, she does not like tummy time, she doesn't move side to side or she doesn't want to put her to side and she correct herself immediately. I'm so worried please help.
Hi Asnaz are you able to describe this in more detail? When she is lying on her back is she keeping her head in the middle of her body or is her head falling to the side? Is she reaching out and grabbing toys when she is lying on her back. Do you mean that she is not yet rolling from her back to her side into side lying? Or when she is on her tummy she is not moving her body to the side (so straightening her arms and lifting her body and moving to the side)? When she is in tummy time can she lift her head or her head and her chest or does she straighten her arms and lift head, chest and trunk?
You can check his calcium levels, he might be suffering from vitamin D deficiency. We had exactly the same problem with tummy time, turns out vitamin D deficiency, gave her 2500IU a day of this vitamin, a few days later she is doing tummy time for 3 minutes in a row,.many times a day!
Don't newborn babies always get vitamin D? My boy is 11 weeks old and has been getting one drop for 10 weeks now, they told me to continue giving him that until he's 1 year old because his body can't really make it itself yet
Thanks for watching! Let me know which Tummy Time position your little one ends up liking?
I would love to check the pdf thanks a lot 🙏
Hi Emma, thank you for the video! I cannot find the PDF, will you be able to send it to me please? biancadegaspary@gmail.com

My baby love tummy time, she was enjoying
My baby enjoys tummy time with her dad the most. I feel it's cos he has a broad frame than I 😅. I'll learn to do better
Ugh my twins are the same!
Hi @Amy Horton and @Lyric Voelle sounds like your little ones really don't like tummy time. If they are starting to sit up you can work on strengthening their arms and shoulders by placing their toys slightly out of reach (so they have to reach out and put weight through their arms).
@@EmmaHubbard will it help them crawl like that?
Thank you so much ❤️ my baby is 3 month old can I practice tummy time with her?
Yes you can definitely start tummy time with your little one!
do you have any tummy time tips for older babies that hate tummy time? my son is 6 months old and hates tummy time unless it's chest to chest or over his boppy pillow, if I put him down in the floor or the bed he'll only tolerate it for about 15 months tops, he also only rolls from his tummy to his back in that short time frame, but only once or twice. I'm not really sure how to work with him to last a bit longer or to start rolling more, but I practice rolling with him for as long as he can stand to be on his tummy
My baby is 6 month and just learning about tummy time. I hope its not too late became hes yet to get stability with his head movement
I got one !! This 5 month old absolutely hates it . We have a grand time being couch potatoes with his toys , but tummy time is a bummer . But I'm a babysitter not a mom . Baby-adult interaction with a babysitter is different .
Any suggestions for babysitters ?
Eager to listen to your voice for baby care.
Can u guide to have paediatric occupational therapy qualification
My son doesn't like chest to chest, but will keep trying!
Hes now learnt to roll from front to back 🙈
Same
My daughter is 7 months and still doesnt like it. When she uses her arms to support her body on her belly then shes making grunting noises like its heavy for her. And then gives up and tries to roll on her back or cries.
Excellent tips thank you!
I'm going to try using a ball
He can fet out of sitting but not into it.
Did you find out why? This happened to me and I changed the bottle. The only one that worked was the Lansinoh 🙌🏼
Maybe due to stomach pain or if her nose is block then she wont be able to drink. .and due to her discomfort ,she is crying ...
This is really helpful and encouraging. Thanks!!
So good to hear this video is helpful! Goodluck!
@@harikasai5109 hello, same with my 5 month old baby. Hows your baby today?
My baby is 5.5 months old and same he is always licking his hand .
Until what age do babies need tummy time? Would u say it is the basic exercise for baby the tummy time and from there other skills r mastered?! Thanks
My baby is 8month old. As soon as I place her on her tummy she rolls over😂. Can't win with her. She loves to play seated.
My 5 months old baby hate tummy time just maybe 10-15 secs shell cry. Thank u for this
Hope it helps!
First rule. - never compare babies. Guess his pre school teacher missed that.
@@melissamorgan8469 unfortunately thats what happened
Very useful tips. Thank you❤️
Thanks!
He has almost no neck tho so wondering if that makes it a lot more difficult for him
I do the last two and also use the sofa arm rest to place my 3 month old
Having same problem. N i have used all these tricks.
My 3 month has great head and neck strength we also practice rolling. But how do I keep from baby spreading his arms out when in his stomach?
Thank you so much ❤
It's my pleasure!
How long after feeding do we put the baby on their tummy.
Hi Emma! I admire you, such a professional pediatrician. Where is your office located?
HI Caroline, thanks so much for your lovely words. I am an paediatric occupational therapist in Canberra Australia.
@@EmmaHubbard what a pity I live in US. Would be a pleasure to see you as my baby's doc. I watch the videos you upload with a huge admiration and interest. Thank you for your time!
Thank you for these tips. My 3m old isn’t very good at tummy time.
Glad it was helpful! I'm sure they'll get better :)
How soon should I do this? My daughter is 2 months old.
Great video, thank you.
Glad you liked it!
Me too, my boy hates tummy time and is sick a lot, I literally do it for a few minutes :(
My son is 2 months and same I try to do it before feeding but it’s so hard cause he is hungry and wants to eat
My son is 4 months and doesn't like tummy time.. we currently do between 10 to 15 mins.. he doesn't support with his.. put his head up for few 2nds and put it back down... don't jnownif I should be worried
My boy does the arms at side too!!! 😭😭😭
My boy too!
My baby is 3 months and I couldn’t do this has a habit for with my baby. Will start doing from now
Dear Emma, thank you for your usefull tips. My baby is 2 mo old & we did tummy time in traditional way which only last for less than 3 minutes in each session. How many time we should do tummy time a day and how long? Anyway, is it safe to carry my baby with a kangaroo carrier? He is still 2 mo old
Thank you
You're welcome
Emma you’re awesome!
That’s so nice. Hope your finding the videos helpful
Did you find a solution? When did he start to love tummy time?
from when should start this? 1st week?
My little boy is 10 months old and still hates it, we’ve tried everything at this point multiple times. Hopefully it doesn’t hamper his development too much.
I legit did not know that the football hold was tummy time 😅 been doing a lot of that with mine
How often or is it okey if every day have a tummy time? 1month baby
Ez nagyon jó 😁sokat segít a babàmnak.koszonjuk szépen..thank you ☺️☺️
My baby is 3 months old about to be 4 months in 2 weeks and she's barely learning to keep her head up.
Would this help with building head/neck coordination? My baby is 5 months old, and she keeps putting her head all the way back.
Mine is almost 5 months and still scream so much during tummy time . I have tried everything . He can sit up already with little support
Tried chest to chest with my breastfed baby ... he immediately started trying to nurse 😅 .. anything i put under him for support he tries to suck at it .. evwn his hands ! 😅😅😅
So true, the same is mine 😁
He is never happy, peaceful and settled after sleep, so he eats all the time during the "waking windows".
You’re awesome, I love your video
This is great!
I have an almost three month old and he hates tummy time he doesn’t even want to try :( he just cries and lays there sigh
He has no problem lifting his head, he just doesn’t like to be on his tummy
Don't newborn babies always get vitamin D? My boy is 11 weeks old and has been getting one drop for 10 weeks now, they told me to continue giving him that until he's 1 year old because his body can't really make it itself yet
@@sylthrina165 no. babies only get offered vitamin D drops if they are breastfed
