On my chest and then the football/lap(great way to burp as well lol) hold let’s me get a couple things done while still holding a baby. Also my babies are 2.5 months old I just started doing tummy time with their heads a few inches in front of each other so they can start to look at each other since they’re a little stronger to put their heads up for longer
This is the kind of info they should give before you leave the hospital with your baby. It’s so much harder to remember to give my babe tummy time the second time around. My toddler is so distracting I have a hard time keeping track of what my newborn needs 🤪

My baby has never hated tummy time. The difference is that I've done it only on my chest for the 1st month and just a little on the floor for the 2nd month. I started going full on at the floor by the 3rd month and he was stronger already. Now he's almost 4 months and really really strong. And he loves tummy time. He smiles and laughs, and tries his beat to move. 😊
Wish I did this.. my Pediatrician frowned when I mentioned the chest and said to do on floor. My baby just couldn’t and it was so stressful and we both avoided it. Now trying to catch up
Whoever has directed/edited Emma's videos has done an awesome job. I like how they are straight to the point with lots of visual variety with camera angles and various clips. I have such a short attention span and even I can follow her videos. Thank you!! :)
So glad I found this video. I thought I was the worst parent because my son didn't do traditional tummy time until he was 5 months due to reflux. But we would carry him around all day in the football hold and also did chest to chest sometimes. So glad we at least did something for his development!
One more reason to do tummy time: if baby has stomach aches, it can ease them. Ours had tummy ache ALL THE TIME before regular tummy time. When she understood that it helps to be on her tummy, she began really liking it!
I breast fed but still used simethicone drops but with my grandson I use lactose drops in his formula, and simethicone drops or Gripe water as needed. It helps when your gut is healthy.
Eat tummy time advice i got was to pop baby down when about to change their nappy, roll them over whilst you prep the nappy and wipe and roll them back over. Getting in alot of tummy time without much effort (as long as they aren't super dirty and crying alot)
Our first boy started with chest to chest tummy time... he basically lived in that position. I kept feeling guilty that we didn't really do dedicated tummy time though because he didn't really do the traditional tummy time until he was 3 months. Really glad to have found this video now though. I will be using a lot of the tips and tricks mentioned for baby #2
Hi,iam from India,we don't have concept of tummy time.but we do the similar activity while oiling and bathing a baby.we sit in the floor with our legs extended ,we put child on its tumny on the leg of massager n bath giver.the child will hold the leg.we will give quick oil massage n a quick bath .that is the only tummy time we know here.naturally after 3months babies start roll over n they will be on their tummy .this is something new for me.thank you for detailed video.
What the heck wish i saw this sooner!! 😮luckily my baby was born with strong neck and back muscles because i have not nearly been doing enough tummy time!! Maybe 30-45 all up each day and she’s 3 mo!!!
I wish we would have done tummy time with my grandson earlier.. we had colic and reflux.. so the first 3 months he didn’t do a lot of tummy time. He’s 5 months now.. and hates tummy time. We try as much as possible. I hope this hasn’t delayed him in any way. He’s not rolling over yet either. 🤞🏻❤️
Can’t wait to try this with my 2 month old tummy time hater! I’m a FTM and didn’t realize there were 4 positions and ways to make them easier! Thanks Emma!
For a first time mom these videos are so helpful, thank you!! Do you have any recommendations for twins? It’s hard to do a lot of tummy time when there are two and one hates it.
@Sara Rodriquez - Try doing it with one baby at a time, like do tummy time with the baby that’s awake while the other baby is still sleeping. Adjust your time with every activity, including feeding time, to where they don’t need something at the same time. If one hates it make tummy time quicker but more often throughout the day.🥰
Both of my twins hate tummy time. I feel like I have done everything I can to make it more fun but all I get is crying.. it makes it really hard to do tummy time…
Thank you for this video! My baby loves tummy time IF he’s with me. I was told that I must do tummy time on the floor but now I know that I’m doing nothing wrong letting him have some tummy time with mommy
♥️ your videos. Am from India. Can you please make a detailed video how to put a baby in these tummy positions. I am a first time dad and find it difficult & afraid in holding a baby and then putting them in a position.
Hi Emma :) as a first time mum, I cannot express how much I appreciate the content you’ve put up! Any chance you could talk a bit more about your routine with a newborn :)
my baby girl has TOF and at 9 months old still absolutely hates tummy time. She cries and rolls to her back almost immediately after I put her in position! I had to keep her off her stomach after her shunt was put in so there was a few months of zero tummy time. Thank you for these very helpful tips, I want to get her as strong as she can be before her next surgery!
Hi Anastasia I hope your little one likes one of these tummy time positions. Sounds like you will do everything needed to get her stronger. You might find the video I did on tummy time where I demonstrate these positions with babies instead of a doll helpful. This is the link to the video ruclips.net/video/377j05F4edY/видео.html
As a new mum again 9 years later I've realized I had a lot of relearning to do for aligning not only my mommy skills but to enhance my intelligence to do even better this time around; while focusing on the importance of just growth in every way....nothing else. I've saved so much time and money,,,this time around as well as less hospital visits about silly things. I aim for just the best attentive care for my kids optimal growth in general and it starts home. So thanks again for another great video full of incite on this particularly. My baby absolutely lovit tummy time ,baby smiling and jiggling from first days when started to do,we just 3 weeks old ,just getting angry when don’t get support from me ,holding my arm’s against baby feet’s so baby can push forward self.
My baby is two months and holding her head up for a very longtime because she had really bad gas from a formula and chest tummy time was the only thing that could sooth her during that time.
Thank you so much for the video. It is very informative and so much help. Left me happy spending the tummy time with my gorgeous daughter. We love the chest to chest position, she falls asleep whenever we have the tummy time.
We started with our twins when we brought them home, they're 4 months now- it doesn't matter how long it's been since they ate. If we put them in tummy time they throw up and then plop their face in it 🥲. They also scream and cry the entire time.. I swear they're never going to roll over.
Yeah I couldn't imagine the spit up and face plopping in it would be desirable in any way. One thing that I did come across on RUclips was a man who did physical therapy with babies. One of his tricks to get the baby to roll over was while the baby was lying on its back, he would take the baby's upper thigh in his hand being sure that the leg was bent, and push lightly on the top of the babies thigh and top of the knee towards the other leg to encourage the baby to learn to use the Leverage of its legs to be able to roll over. I hope this is helpful to you, as it was for me. Best of luck to you and your twins. Oh and by the way, in case you have not heard this today, you are doing an amazing job with both of your babies! You are a wonderful mother oh, and the fact that you have two babies instead of one in my eyes makes you super mom!
I felt awful because he’s almost three months and I’m just now being adamant about tummy time He did his first solid fifteen minutes about an hour ago and I am so proud of him! I’m planning to do it fifteen minutes every wake window, (up to bed time) in all four positions My doctor tried to say do 30 minutes straight, three times a day, and I’d rather do 15 minute blocks, six times a day to get to the same quota Can you let me know of any critiques you may have? Furthermore, thank you so much for not shaming the mamas who didn’t do it right out of the womb 🥰
Hi :) yeyyyyi to your bub for doing tummy time 15 minutes !! Even my baby is 3 months and her necks is still pretty wobbly! I discounted tummy time for her since she was almost preemie size when born and she hated it then and stilllllll hates. Will go max 1 minute 🙈 can you share what you tried to stretch the period that much???
Found amazing you reply everyones message.. Cool... Watching all your videos..our little one turns to 2nd week now.. Started tummy time..✌️ Much loves from India.. 🙏🥰
This video is very informative and structured well. The most I like about this video, she shows specifically with picture, video, and using baby doll, which give very clear information. Awesome video! Thanks
My baby literally couldn't wait for tummy time. She would kill head on her own at 2 weeks and sometimes she likes to smack her head on my collar bone and cry. I felt so bad because my hand was on her butt and back so I couldn't stop it. But she repeatedly does lift her head for long moments so I started tummy time as soon as she lost her umbilical cord. I do it for 15 minutes, I let her do it as I pump. Sometimes she gets fussy, sometimes she lasts through the thing, and sometimes she falls asleep 😴 so cute. Either way I flip her over when she's done. Sometimes she flips over on her own if she's done with it. This is why its supervised 😄
I havnt done it at all I was never told to. She will be 2 months on the 22nd. I will start doing this. I out her in my chest often and she lifts her head. My sister tried once to but her in her stomach once and she went to sleep immediately .
Hi Ashleigh, don’t worry about not doing it in the past. Just start now. Your little one will probably be upset the first few times which is totally fine and expected. Just keep persisting and she will tolerate it better.
@@EmmaHubbard I just started a new routine for my son today. He’s two months old. At his appointment yesterday they said he would probably benefit in wearing a doc band. He favors his right side. I have a CT appointment next week. Very scared/ nervous. So I’ve been researching a lot on tummy time. I love your video! Do you have any other advice? Since he’s only two months I don’t think they will have him wear a helmet just yet. I’ve been thinking about PT. Then again I think I need to just slow down and wait till our CT appointment. Sorry my mom brain is I overdrive. I just want to do what’s best for my son. But I will definitely be practicing all of these tummy time positions. Thank you again ☺️♥️
Hi Jordan no need to apologise. Yesterday’s appointment with the doctor would have been very overwhelming. Your thought about seeing a physiotherapist who specialises in paediatric is a good idea as they can give you specific advice after seeing your son- like positioning advice and tweaking tummy time positions and specific stretches if required. Without seeing your little one it is hard to give more specific advice. Very generally I find most babies tolerate the football hold tummy time position and the chest to chest tummy time position at your son’s age. I am releasing another video this Friday and where I demonstrate how to do the tummy time positions holding an baby rather than a doll which you might find helpful. Over the next week I would try if possible to reduce the google search- there is a lot of misinformation out there, wait for the CT scan and book in to a physiotherapist if you are able to?
@@EmmaHubbard Thank you! I definitely need to just take a step back and breathe. I just need to focus on my son and wait till our CT appointment. I am SO looking forward to your video!!! I’ll do my best at staying off google 🤦🏼♀️ Thank you again for your advice & kind words! I really appreciate it ♥️♥️
No worries at all. If you do google (as a parent we all do) just make sure to look at information written by a physiotherapist. Hope everything goes well.
Huh, my family's babies are weird. A lot of us and our babies loved being on our tummies. I hope mine will like it too. That'll make things easier. Thank you for all the tips! I didn't realize that it was so important to do and it's nice that I'm finding this out before my first baby's birth.
I loved your video , helps so much! My baby turned 3 months on the 7th of this month. Will be 4 months in about 2 wks. We do tummy time with Boppy pillow and he is perfect there and with the towel rolled up. But he’s still not able to hold his head up high for too long with just flat surface. What do you recommend plz??
You mention tummy time just after nappy change and eating, but my baby tends to regurgitate shortly after eating (she eats big portions for her age) so I'm afraid to put her on her tummy at that moment. Any advice ?
You could try and do tummy time when she wakes up - this will depend on if she is happy at this time and not too hungry. Otherwise you can wait a while after a feed and see how that goes
I've been wondering whether doing tummy time on a bed counts as doing it on the ground. We have a strong draft on our floor so I'd prefer to keep him on the bed but I also get that the floor provides that strong surface. Any advice?
I’m intrigued as well my baby who’s 12 weeks old hates tummy time on the floor or play mat however, doesn’t mind tummy time on my bed. I wonder if this is ok?
Thanks for the message. If is fine to do tummy time on a mattress - just make sure you watch your little one when they are doing tummy time on a mattress. I have found babies find tummy time on a mattress harder, as the mattress is soft and they baby sinks into the mattress. Also as soon as they start to lie their head on the mattress turn them onto their back. There is a risk they might not be able to clear their head to the side when they face plant with fatigue.
At this age I would recommend doing short bursts on the floor, as well as, the other tummy time positions. The floor is firmer than a mattress so it's easier for your little one to push up through their arms on. But if you can't get onto the floor then a mattress is fine. Just remain close by as it is easier for a bub to accidentally roll over when on a mattress and if your little one does get tired and rest their head on the mattress their breathing might be restricted. Hope that helps!
Awesome! Thank you! You might find this video helpful on tummy time as I demonstrate the positions with babies instead of dolls. ruclips.net/video/377j05F4edY/видео.html
Any suggestions for an ex 27 weeker, 8 weeks corrected age baby with severe silent reflux? There are days when its impossible to put her down. It's so stressful. 😔
Hi @Adrienn Toth that sounds very stressful. Unfortunately, it is all about trial and error. Some parents find doing tummy time before a feed better and others find it better to feed and then wait 20 plus minutes and then do tummy time. You might find your little one tolerates the football hold, and tummy time on a boppy pillow better.
Our 6 month old really struggled with TT for a few months. Reflux, CMPA and oral ties that created bad back and neck tightness. We finally got her to where she will do it and she likes it. She started rolling at 4 months but they’ve tossed around that she needs OT. Our pediatrician disagrees. She was held upright around the clock for 3 Months and has incredible head control. But she can’t crawl yet and just started attempting to use her arms to help her sit after a chiro visit. Any tips on helping her to roll to the other side and to crawl? I’m afraid she’s behind from not being able to do tummy time the first few months 😭
My baby girl was born with a brain bleed(hydrocephalus) and was born at 31 weeks so she is 3 months old but really would only be 1 month,, her head has been operated on and rickham has been done to tap the csf fluid, so her head is a little bigger because of her swollen ventricles, how often would you say to do tummy time as she really doesn't like it.

Furthermore, thank you so much for not shaming the mamas who didn’t do it right out of the womb 🥰
first solid at 3mths?
Hi :) yeyyyyi to your bub for doing tummy time 15 minutes !! Even my baby is 3 months and her necks is still pretty wobbly! I discounted tummy time for her since she was almost preemie size when born and she hated it then and stilllllll hates. Will go max 1 minute 🙈 can you share what you tried to stretch the period that much???
Thanks for this tutoring Emma
Thank you very much! This video helped us a lot! You explained it very good!
Glad it helped!
Thank you for the video. My newborn is preterm and nearly a month now. Any advise when to start tummy time?
Found amazing you reply everyones message.. Cool... Watching all your videos..our little one turns to 2nd week now.. Started tummy time..✌️ Much loves from India.. 🙏🥰
That is awesome!
Thanks for the tips. My baby totally don't like tummy time. I will do it again tomorrow.
Hopefully you find a tummy time position your little one likes and it will definitely become easier with practice. Remember even seconds count.
This video is very informative and structured well. The most I like about this video, she shows specifically with picture, video, and using baby doll, which give very clear information. Awesome video! Thanks
Thanks so much! Glad you enjoyed it 🙂
My baby literally couldn't wait for tummy time.
My baby falls asleep often while in tummy time. The best for us has been airplane tummy time. Im gonna try lap tummy time today
Thank you so much. I appreciate cos I learnt a lot
You are very welcome!
What about when your child is on leg casts? How can you manage tummy time in such an awkward uncomfortable state?
I use my phone flipped camera so baby can see themselves. The exercise ball is what works best for my baby.
That’s a great idea! Thanks for sharing this tip!
My son loved tummy time. He's 7 months now and pulling himself up to stand.
Super helpful 👍 I have a 2 week old :)
So glad it helped! Amazing! Congrats 💜
You are amazing! Thanks for the tips
Glad it was helpful!
Thank you for your helpfull video 🎉
It’s my pleasure!
I’m a first time mom and just came across your video! So informational! Thank you so much ☺️
Congratulations Jordan on your little ones arrival. So glad you found this video helpful.
Loved this. Very helpful. How many can you say Tummy time in a minute haha.
😂 apparently a LOT!
Great video, my baby is now doing better than when we first started, I'm sure soon he will get used to it. Thanks Emma
Oh!!! I'm sure your channel will help me alot cuz I'm pediatric O.T too
So glad it will help. Being a paediatric OT is so much fun!
Thank you so much. Great video. 👏🏿
Thank you for this video❣️
Great video. Thank you.
So informative! Thanks so much 🙌🏽
You’re welcome!
Great instructional video!
Huh, my family's babies are weird. A lot of us and our babies loved being on our tummies. I hope mine will like it too. That'll make things easier. Thank you for all the tips! I didn't realize that it was so important to do and it's nice that I'm finding this out before my first baby's birth.
Thanks for your message. Wishing a smooth arrival for your bub and hopefully your little one loves tummy time like your extended family.
@@EmmaHubbard Thank you!
No worries.
Magnífico !!
Thanks, Emma! Great video! 😊
No worries. Glad you liked it
Hi, Emma! Thank you for the video. A question, though: how to teach the baby to roll over from the tummy to the back?
I will release a video on this topic in 2 weeks. It should help
Thank you!mybbaby loves tummy time🙂
Your welcome.
You're super! Greetings from Finland. Watching you a lot!
That’s so kind. Thank you for your lovely words. Hopefully these videos continue to be helpful.
I am a new mom and this video was super informative. Thank you so much!
No worries Shayna! Glad you found it helpful. Also congratulations on becoming a mum!!
@@EmmaHubbard thank you so much!
Thank you! Very informative!
Glad it was helpful
Amazing insights. Thanks 😊
Thanks a lot! Would the baby not throw up if we do Tummy time after feeding?
What a great video. Thank you
💕
Great video, thank you so much, this helped tons! Blessings 🙏🏿😊💙

I’m a first time mom, I’ve been doing tummy time for my son on a boppy pillow, is that also a good way to do tummy time?
Ty emma 😘😘🥰🥰
Having my 6MO, and this video is very helpful
So glad you found it helpful
Hello. Should tummy time be done on the floor? Or is a firm mattress ok? Asking for my 8-week old LO. ❤️
Tummy time when they actually have the head resting still counts as TT or they need to be the whole time with the head up?
Thanks really helpful, will watch multiple times! And share with my NCT group
Awesome!
She was held upright around the clock for 3
Months and has incredible head control.
Thank you!
