Hey i just wanted to ask about something.. my baby’s head is flat from the back nd i know i should make him sleep sideways but he starts crying alot nd now he’s 6 months old nd he’s head is has a few bombs in the side what can i do abt it ..???
Wow! I was watching this video with my 3 week old sleeping on my chest and decided to try your tips! I swaddled her with her arms down (instead of using a Love to Dream), turned the air con to 22 degrees, turned the white noise machine on, made sure the room was dark enough & rock her to a drowsy state and before putting her down in her bassinet and she felt asleep immediately! You're a bloody legend, thanks for the tips!
I'm literally about to do EVERYTHING you just listed lol. I need to sleep and my baby has been having hard time. We are also struggling with breastfeeding which is throwing everything off too. Hopefully we can work on his sleep first, then maybe the breastfeeding will get easier cause he won't be so fussy from being overtired :))
1. Go to bedroom even they're awake 2. Make it cool 3. Make it quiet 4. White noise helps 5. Swaddling blanket helps 6. Night light if wakes up 7. Avoid over tired baby (120mins max wake time)
My 5week old ist awake for minimum 2hr. No chance to get him to sleep earlier. You can rock him for half an hour in your arms and you will look in two wide awake eyes. If I want to eat, shower, nap,... me hubby needs to put him in a carrier. Otherwise he would only sleep like 5hr a day. 16-18hr a day my a**. That little guy employs two people...
With my first, I would run to him and nurse at every noise or movement. He’s nearly 5 and sleep has always been tough; he still needs assistance. I have a 7 week old now and I only assist her if she obviously needs me. She’s already a much better sleeper! This video/information is so helpful and I wish I’d had it with my first.
Thank you so much. Helped us a lot and definitely saved us money... Following your tips meant we didn't have to go down the sleep training specialist route!!
My husband and I are expecting a baby boy next week. I'm a first time parent - your videos are a life saver already, as I'm totally clueless about what to expect.
The Breakdown: 1. Understand sleep cycles, they may just be "light sleeping" instead of actually awake. Let them be until you know for sure they're up! 2. Keep the room cool. Babies like 65-70ish degrees. Dress them accordingly. It's better to be too cool than too hot 3. Make sure the room is dark. Not because of circadian rhythms (that's not until 3-5mo) but so that they aren't stimulated when they should be focused on sleep/falling asleep! 4. Use a consistent noise, like a sound machine, to prevent stimulation and the startle reflex so they can stay asleep. 5. Swaddle or use sleeping bags. She prefers arms down to prevent the startle reflex. Be sure to no over heat with the blanket as this is linked to SIDS. Make sure to get a good swaddle that they can't loosen or get out of. Otherwise use convenient swaddles like zip/velcro for safety. 6. Keep the environment boring (not stimulating) for middle of the night wakes. Dim lights, no screens/noises. Just change, feed, sleep. 7. Avoid an over tired baby. Cues of sleepiness- wiping eyes, yawning, zoning, looking away. The length of the nap typically determines how long they'll be awake. Typically a 3 hour nap means 2 hours of wakefulness (never more). A 30 minute nap may result in only 45 minutes of wakefulness. 8. Avoid habituating. This is when there is lots of movement, noise, and stimulation during the sleep (like being around lots of people, being held while sleeping and passed around, etc.) this keeps them from a full deep sleep. They'll be fussy after, so make sure their next nap is in a dark quiet space! 9. Using a pacifier: 6 weeks is the soonest you should start if breastfeeding. Sucking is soothing and calming. Stop the pacifier around 6 months as this is when you start sleep training and don't want them to depend on it. 8 months is about the time when they can put it back in their mouth and you don't want to get to that stage.

Me too, please tell me it gets easier. I don't live alone, we live with our family so theirs like 8 people & it's noisey, I can't keep my baby in the room all day, I'm trying ti get him used to being in the living room with noise but it's hard to put my baby boy to sleep without him being on me and me having to rock him, i know I have to stop that cycle. Does anyone have a recommended time I can so I don't start a bad habit ?
As a NICU RN located in Portland Oregon USA, I want to thank you for an EXCELLENT video on newborns and sleep. I'm forwarding it to my daughter who will deliver her first baby any day now.
I definitely find that white noise is most helpful for baby to sleep deeply. They come from a very very noisy environment inside our bodies, compared to outside which is way more quiet. Also I found my babies sleep quite well while nursing. After they fell asleep I would put them down for them to continue their naps. I never put them down awake, makes no sense since breastfeeding soothes them so much that they fall asleep. I didn’t pick up baby unless I knew for sure they were awake. As long as there is a very obvious difference between day and night, their little bodies adjust all on their own. My 4 month old (3rd baby) now sleeps from 7pm to 6 am, she adjusted by herself. All I did was nurse on demand, and followed her bio rhythm. I never wake my sleeping babies. A dark quiet room only works for us if it’s night outside. You don’t want to confuse their biorhythms if your goal is for them to learn to sleep at night. And yes I used a pacifier early on to stretch the night naps little by little.
Im almost 12 weeks pregnant. I think I'm still kind of in denial because every time these videos come up I panic at the thought. But here I am learning and at least my husband is amazing and I know I'm going to need support. Not gonna lie super scared because of the loss of freedom, sleep and independence but it's life. You always think it will be super hard until the day comes. Right now I am even shocked at myself at how I handle everything. It will all be good don’t worry. Try not to stress and enjoy the moment
@@gali3109 is right. My baby is 3 weeks now and I am surprised at myself. I was so scared of how I would be as a mom, losing independence, lacking sleep. When my baby came things just fell in place, taking a day at a time. Of course you'll need some adjusting but it isn't as scary as we think. You will be great mama and congratulations.
I felt the same way and I'm not going to sugar coat it bc many people did that for me and I guess I got too comfortable with the idea. The first couple of weeks were not so bad for me either but weeks 4-6 have been bad to the point I cry daily and don't have any freedom and I need sleep. I also have an amazing husband that has been helping A TON! but it's hard on him too. BUT know this, it will pass AND pediatrician thinks she's suffering from silent reflux (she slept for only 7.5 hours in 24 hours! and looks pained every time she feeds). And breastfeeding did not come easy for me or many others around me. I tell you this bc I kept blaming myself thinking I or my baby are "broken" and why does it have to be my baby who is hurting? IF something like this happens to you, just know it's not you and you and your husband will get through it. One thing I can say for certain is that your baby is going to be your world (in a great way) We love our baby so much! It's crazy. Good luck to you and remember, everything you go through during pregnancy, delivery, recovery, and fourth trimester is temporary. and it's all totally worth it! You're going to do great!
You saved my husband’s and I’s sleep! We woke up full of hope this morning because we followed these tips last night and got our 7 week old to sleep in her crib! From the beginning we had been holding her in our arms to sleep. She has no problem sleeping except it had to be in our arms! My husband and I would take shifts, it was exhausting and we hadn’t slept properly for a month and half. We would watch other babies sleeping so peacefully in their cribs and couldn’t understand how they did it. Thank you so much for this video 👍🏻

I was watching this as my newborn slowly started to stretch and go into light sleep 1 hour into her nap. I started to get nervous for my tired wife and wanted to rock her bassinet but thanks to this video I let her settle, let out a big poop and go back to deep sleep, hopefully we get another hour 😅 thanks for the helpful video
Hello, thanks for this information..I also have a baby who naps for 20 to 30 minutes...I'd like to try using this sleeping bag, but I'm confused which one is this sleeping bag? Can you send the picture ? Thanks in advance
Ha. I used a pacifier from week 1. It helps enormously. I want to know is why some babies fight sleep. My 3 week old will close her eyes, and show all signs of tiredness, and then BAM her eyes are wide open. Sometimes she can sit and stare for 40 minutes, sometimes she starts crying. I’ve put her down after 30 minutes in some cases, so there is no way she’s over tired, and yet… she just wants to stare into space. Also…. With clothing, does that guide also include things like swaddles or blankets? I’ve clearly been over dressing my baby…🥴 but in fairness I was only shown what do to do when bubs was first born and had to be dressed warmly…
My newborn apparently hates swaddling and likes her hands free and most of the times over her head, she also startles a lot especially during night which I means I have to stay up almost whole night gently patting her on chest to calm her and make sure she is asleep. She is 25 days old, hopefully I will be able to get some sleep when she is a bit older😮
@EmmaHubbard, thank you for the great videos. I am hoping you can clarify one thing regarding tip 1; should my baby be awake when I put him down to go to sleep/take a nap or should he be in light sleep or deep sleep already? Currently I’m struggling at night where I have to hold him for him to sleep. As soon as I set him in his bassinet, he wakes and cries shortly thereafter. Thanks for any insight.
I’m so glad I found your video. I didn’t quite get what you said about overheating. Will overheating cause any developmental issues? I’m a new parent with a 2 week old newborn and I feel he was crying because we put too many layers on him
But my baby WON'T sleep unless I'm holding her. She can be in super deep sleep in my arms but the moment I put her in the crib she wakes up or she'll be sleeping at first but 5 minutes later will wake up! But in my arms she can sleep for hours! I don't feel like these videos truly answer that. Like I've done ALL these things and she just refuses to sleep in her crib
It’s because u trained him\her like that from the beginning 😊next time u have to immediately put him/her down immediately he/she sleeps 😮then will learn that.
@janetarmarh6946 nope. I didn't. She was always like that. You think I voluntarily trained her while I'm sleep deprived to sleep in my arms only? No. I did it because otherwise she'd just cry and then neither of us would sleep.
I personally think its okay for baby to sleep in a noisy environment. If its quiet, great. If its not, i would rather have an adaptable baby than a fussy baby. Being in public, restaurants, in the car, or having company is going to get a little (or a lot) noisy. If they're tired they will sleep. We fall asleep watching tv, at a movie theatre, in a car with music on and so can baby.
I also had someone suggest to bring the bassinet out in the living room for day naps so that they can help better at night. Is this something you suggest? I’m still working on it. Thank you for the great info. ❤
This is great information. Thank you! What about giving a pacifier to a baby less than 3 months old at night when they start to cry and don’t seem to be able to go back to sleep after a few minutes?
Thank you for this video. I am just a bit confused about the 'not letting baby sleep in your arms' bit. I read many times that letting your baby sleep on you during the day is good for their development, the attachment and comfort of the baby (since they're so used to being close to you in the womb). I'm curious to anyone's thoughts on this.
Hi lovely! Should babies be restricted during the day when it comes to sleeping. My newborn sleeps a lot during the day and really well but of a night he is very fussy and not sleeping well Look forward to hearing back Kate
I’m curious as to what you think about swaddle/sleep bags and SIDS risk. I have hesitated to use them as red nose don’t recommend them unless baby’s arms are out
Thank you for the video, Just a tip for parents during the night time routine you can also use ear buds/wireless headphones so the parent has something to do and to help feeding go by more quickly.
Thank you do much Emma for this video my husband just came across your video and have applied the tips to our baby and I’m so happy that our baby and us and getting the rest we need 😊♥️
My baby boy hates swaddling but has a bad startle reflex, will wake up like clockwork about 30 mins after being put down in the bassinet, and will spit out the paci if I give it to him, I’m at a loss I’ve tried white noise as well
Thank you so much Emma for the wonderful tips and tricks. I have a 3 month old baby who moves his head left and right all the time during the night Should i pick him up as soon as he does that or should i leave him there?
This is really informative. Stumbled on this channel am expecting my baby any time this week. How should a newborn sleep to avoid SIDS or to sleep well? Thank you
Great video lots of great tips thanks❤, I personally still think it’s helpful if a baby can sleep in loud environments. They’re asleep through most of our day and there are many loud public places, I would find it hard to get anything done if mine couldn’t sleep through those noises whilst I was out and about. Plus my dogs are way loud if she woke up to them we would be in trouble 🤣 sleeps through it all and i’m more than grateful for that!
Really awesome video. Great information, I didn't know about the light sleep Emma talks about. So that'll be really helpful. On the noise topic, it sounds like Emma's baby prefers quiet which is probably accurate. 5 days in, our baby appears to fall into the "prefers noise" camp, including loud conversation, shouting, dogs. She sleeps like a rock for 2-5 hours unless intentionally wake her up with touch. Our baby doesn't sleep in a quiet room very well though and wakes up after the 1st sleep cycle. So I'm just acknowledging that variance between different babies.
Thanks for your video. How long can active sleep last? At what point do I know she's really awake and get her out? My baby cries out a lot and seems awake but has her eyes closed, should I be leaving her until her eyes open?
Hey Emma. First time mom of a 7 week old lil girlie here. She is a persistent tummy sleeper. I'm now trying to get her to sleep on her back instead and she detests being swaded (she hates being on her back). Any tips on that?
Thanks a million for this. Question >> Do you have any tips for babies struggling with gas/pooping especially at night even though I burp her after every feeding??
I love steps 2-7 but I'm not sure I understand the first step? The first step in putting a newborn to sleep...is to make sure they're awake? Are you saying take a wide awake baby into a dark room, not one already in a drowsy/light sleep stage (possibly post nursing in another room? Everything else makes sense but I'm going round in circles trying to understand the first one. Thank you Emma
My baby doesn't like to be swaddled...she likes her hands in her face or up by her head and if I dare swaddle her, the entire universe would hear about it 😅
Just want to say that the comment on no one being able to sleep in a noisey room is false as I can sleep better with music going. I can also sleep through many things; I have slept through aftershocks of an earthquake, road works outside my house, my husband playing his electric guitar (usually quite loud as it can be faintly heard outside) and I always fell asleep at family party's. I find it hard to fall alseep and stay asleep in complete silence. I am a new mother now, so I just have a sleep noise app on through the night. The app is recommended for tinnitus. I do love your videos and they are very helpful. I recommend them to my friends when I know they are expecting.
It is worth to consider white noise. White and pink noise facilitating long, deep and healthy sleep are of particular importance for children. There is no absolute silence in the mother's womb. Various sounds reach the fetus - voices, music, and even the sound of flowing blood. Through the amniotic fluid and the specific environment in the mother's body, all sounds that reach the fetus appear as white noise. After giving birth, such a sound makes the baby feel safe and confident. This noise reminds the baby of the conditions in the mother's belly. In the case of newborns and infants, white noise will work not only during sleep. It is also worth using it to soothe and calm a crying baby.
The love to dream has been fantastic for my little one. She absolutely hated us swaddling with swaddle blankets and our swaddle me sack was awful! Shed squirm and cry and fight to get her arms out, no matter how tight they were in there. I love that the love to dream is a zipper so its so easy to get her in and out without noisy velcro too. But that's just my experience! Butttt im here because the purple crying has been miserable 😢 it's so hard to out her down, she just wants to be held. Or she wakes up constantly after putting her down. She always spits out the pacifier.
Hi Emma, I have two babies (twins) who are two and half month old. My babies sleep well during the day time and in the evening. But they don't sleep well at night. It seems they feel more hungry at night and cry for feed after every hour. I follow a regular night time routine but they remain awake till late night. Sometimes they become very fussy at night and me and my husband are unable to understand the reason. How can we make them sleep well at night? Please guide us.
I think this might be an important question but when feeding in the middle of the night should we burp the baby? Or it’s not really required? Thank you
Thank you so much! This was very helpful! I read somewhere that babies should be napping in the light so that they can start to work out their days from their nights and to help with with Serotonin etc. Should I just be putting him to sleep in a dark room all the time?
I would recommend you put him to bed in a dark room for daytime naps and night sleeps. When he is awake during the day just make sure to expose him to natural light then. So have the blinds open and go outside if possible.
Thanks for watching! Let me know if you have any questions.
Black out blinds changed my little ones sleep

I’m 2weeks pregnant teen mom thanks for the helpful tips ❤
We have a 3 day old baby boy, this was very helpful. Thank you🙌🏼
Thanks for sharing. Hope all the other parents reading this are not to sleep deprived. My little one is having a nap as I type.
You’re the first person I hear talking common sense. Obviously babies deserve a quiet environment for sleeping

Use the sound waves for sleeping babys and all . It's really working
Thank you so much last night I could sleep well. GOD BLESS you
You are so welcome
They grow up so fast I want to spend every waking moment with my newborn! I’m always excited to see him awake and I don’t care what time it is
Thanks so much for posting this - we have a newborn and definitely didn’t realise he was in light sleep at times! 🤯
Glad it was helpful!
I always used a fan for white noise and my kids slept well in that environment!
Fans are a great option for white noise! Thanks so much for sharing!
i've found your content so great and helpful as a new dad! THANK YOU!
That’s great to hear! Thanks David!
The Halo sleeping bag and white noise definitely helped my newborn sleep 3-4hr blocks in the night time! Thanks Emma
No worries Meg. This sleeping bag also changed my life.
My newborn does the same thing. Hands above and feet spread wide. I have to continuously rock him for him to fall asleep.
@@jessicawint-frater7472 you find any solution
@EmmaHubbard, thank you for the great videos.
I am hoping you can clarify one thing regarding tip 1; should my baby be awake when I put him down to go to sleep/take a nap or should he be in light sleep or deep sleep already? Currently I’m struggling at night where I have to hold him for him to sleep. As soon as I set him in his bassinet, he wakes and cries shortly thereafter.
Thanks for any insight.
So glad I came across your channel as an Aussie! Great advice!
Thanks so much!
Is playing music in the room considered a loud room? I was thinking of having a calm lullaby or audio book in the room from day one?
Thanks. - 4th kid and i needed these tips.
Glad it was helpful!
Impossible to have a quiet room when your husband snores louder than a vacuum
Time to get a new husband! 🤷♀️
I was about to write this lol 😂
My husband is the same way & my baby sleeps good ☺️
😂😂😂
Lol can relate
😂😂😂🤣😂😂
Same issue
It’s because u trained him\her like that from the beginning 😊next time u have to immediately put him/her down immediately he/she sleeps 😮then will learn that.
My wife and I are going through the same thing.
@janetarmarh6946 nope. I didn't. She was always like that. You think I voluntarily trained her while I'm sleep deprived to sleep in my arms only? No. I did it because otherwise she'd just cry and then neither of us would sleep.
same here.. when i put him in bed he wakes up and cries
I personally think its okay for baby to sleep in a noisy environment. If its quiet, great. If its not, i would rather have an adaptable baby than a fussy baby. Being in public, restaurants, in the car, or having company is going to get a little (or a lot) noisy. If they're tired they will sleep. We fall asleep watching tv, at a movie theatre, in a car with music on and so can baby.
she explained that
My baby is not bothered by the TV noise. My baby hate the swaddle. She will fidget until hands are out.
Lol mine is exactly the same
Same with mine until I bought the "love to sleep Swaddle up" Swaddle. Seems to help with panic reflex
my baby is exactly the same?!
Mine too lol
I thought mine was the only one🤣
Omg this made me understand my baby so much better! 🙏🙏🙏🙏❤️
I also had someone suggest to bring the bassinet out in the living room for day naps so that they can help better at night. Is this something you suggest? I’m still working on it. Thank you for the great info. ❤
The dummy bit eye raiser because they suck air and will have block out air so maybe less easy to breathe. Love the sleeping information
This very helpful to me. My son is one week old. Me and my wife we rarely sleep at night.
Glad it was helpful! I hope you start to get some sleep soon.
I am learning how to take care of a baby while expecting one. Your video seems very useful and well explained. 👍
Glad it was helpful!
It was Very useful, thanks
We have problem for feeding at night, the boy is asleep and doesn't open his eyes,
Thanks! What about having them sleep while walking outside? That is, can you bring them outside at all at the beginning?
This is great information. Thank you! What about giving a pacifier to a baby less than 3 months old at night when they start to cry and don’t seem to be able to go back to sleep after a few minutes?
Thank you for this video. I am just a bit confused about the 'not letting baby sleep in your arms' bit. I read many times that letting your baby sleep on you during the day is good for their development, the attachment and comfort of the baby (since they're so used to being close to you in the womb). I'm curious to anyone's thoughts on this.
Hi lovely!
Should babies be restricted during the day when it comes to sleeping. My newborn sleeps a lot during the day and really well but of a night he is very fussy and not sleeping well
Look forward to hearing back
Kate
I’m curious as to what you think about swaddle/sleep bags and SIDS risk. I have hesitated to use them as red nose don’t recommend them unless baby’s arms are out
Thank you for the video, Just a tip for parents during the night time routine you can also use ear buds/wireless headphones so the parent has something to do and to help feeding go by more quickly.
Thanks for sharing!
Thank you do much Emma for this video my husband just came across your video and have applied the tips to our baby and I’m so happy that our baby and us and getting the rest we need 😊♥️
That is awesome!
Excellent information àll new mother's should here this
Thanks Judy!
My baby boy hates swaddling but has a bad startle reflex, will wake up like clockwork about 30 mins after being put down in the bassinet, and will spit out the paci if I give it to him, I’m at a loss
I’ve tried white noise as well
Thank you so much Emma for the wonderful tips and tricks. I have a 3 month old baby who moves his head left and right all the time during the night
Should i pick him up as soon as he does that or should i leave him there?
This is really informative. Stumbled on this channel am expecting my baby any time this week. How should a newborn sleep to avoid SIDS or to sleep well? Thank you
Back.
Thanks for sharing!!
Thanks for the video🙏🏾😊❤️
You are so welcome
Thanks for the video. Any tips for triplets? 😅.

Use the sound waves for sleeping babys and all . It's really working
Thanks for your video. How long can active sleep last? At what point do I know she's really awake and get her out? My baby cries out a lot and seems awake but has her eyes closed, should I be leaving her until her eyes open?
Thank you this really helped me. Definitely using a halo sleep swaddle/sack is a LIFESAVER.
Thank u for the tips god bless u
Always appreciate your videos thx

Hey Emma. First time mom of a 7 week old lil girlie here. She is a persistent tummy sleeper. I'm now trying to get her to sleep on her back instead and she detests being swaded (she hates being on her back). Any tips on that?
Your videos are very educative. I ama new mom I have found answers to a lot of my questions .Thank you
Glad it was helpful!
Thanks a million for this. Question >> Do you have any tips for babies struggling with gas/pooping especially at night even though I burp her after every feeding??
Do we swaddle every time they take a nap even in the day or just in the nights. Thanks
Thank you for this ❤
You're welcome 😊
I love steps 2-7 but I'm not sure I understand the first step? The first step in putting a newborn to sleep...is to make sure they're awake?
Are you saying take a wide awake baby into a dark room, not one already in a drowsy/light sleep stage (possibly post nursing in another room?
Everything else makes sense but I'm going round in circles trying to understand the first one. Thank you Emma
My baby doesn't like to be swaddled...she likes her hands in her face or up by her head and if I dare swaddle her, the entire universe would hear about it 😅
You can swaddle them with hands near their face! My baby is the same. You can just keep the hand out- it’s better than the statue reflex waking them
Just want to say that the comment on no one being able to sleep in a noisey room is false as I can sleep better with music going.
Thank you
Was wondering whether there is a link to download the temperature chart and how to dress a baby
So true!
Wow ! What handy videos. Really loving sequence and trick and tips.
Hope there are some tips you can use
Loving the seven tips for sleeping 👍
Glad you found it helpful
Awesome video...I'm a pediatrician, I really like your video.
Awesome! Thank you!
Thank you this is really helpful.
Glad it was helpful!
New dad here. Thanks for the help!
Happy to help!
Thank you for the videos!!! Do you have any tips of putting babies in their bed?? I have a 7week year old and she loves sleeping on us!!
I also have 7weeks old and she will never sleep in her cot but to sleep on me
My baby prefers a noisy room. White noise, music etc I was told it’s because I worked in a night club while pregnant 😅 my baby is I month
I think this might be an important question but when feeding in the middle of the night should we burp the baby? Or it’s not really required? Thank you
I'm expecting in coming weeks. My concern is our air conditioner is a bit of a noisy one. Like continuous noise. Would this be a concern?
Thanks for the tips. Will try them today on my 7 week old infant who only sleeps on the arms
Best of luck!
Can you please share the pdf on how to dress baby accordingly? There are mixed messages on google about baby dressing

thank You for this wonderful tips ma'am watching from Hiroshima JAPAN
You’re welcome ☺️. I’m glad it’s helpful!
