I own this car and I owned the supercharged version in 2005 when they first came out. I am kind of a super-fan of the cobalt SS. Alot of ppl miss the bigger points of these...there were only 3200ish turbo cobalt coupes even produced for the us market with a few hundred more made for Canada, they are very rare! the design is largely based on the Saturn Ion Redline and the turbo ecotec is actually from Opel, a european GM partner. Also the dealership offered a GM Stage 1 engine upgrade that basically tuned it to get 290 HP and 340 Lbs Tq UNDER WARRANTY!! the tune also allowed the computer to sense bolt ons and auto configure itself (not recommended). The car represents the end of an era as well, the last of the tuners without a bunch of screens, a car you can tune and work on yourself. The parts for these are cheap and the engine is very dependable plus it handles like a surgical blade. Stock it came with alcanterra trim on the seats, 18" forged aluminum rims and a very good pioneer sound system that still sounds great today. This was the first vehicle under 60K with Launch Control and it has no-lift-shift!! I look at the Cobalt as a Mini-Vette, it has many design cues from corvettes like the signature round tail-lights (which also remind the tuner fans of a R-32 Skyline) and the split 5 spoke rims that were also specific to corvettes of the time, and most notably this vehicle was from the "GM Perfomance Division" which I think was shut down in 2010(?) regardless, this is the division of GM that was responsible for all corvette development, so basically I see a 4-cylinder turbocharged vette, which sounds ridiculous but look at what camaros and mustangs have today...an option for the turbo-4. The SRT-4 and the Cobalt SS were both at the beginning and the end of an era for tuners and I think these were grossly under-rated especially considering my fully loaded '08 SS TC originally sold for under $24k. Imagine if the new Civic Type-R was only about $28K today with every option...thats what a Cobalt SS was.

Yes the ecotec engine is great platform to build because of a few reasons. 1. Parts are cheap either new , used , or aftermarket. 2. Since the ecotec engine came in multiple cars finding say a Chevy cobalt, Pontiac g5, or a Saturn Ion for a cheap price is extremely easy. 3 . These engines are easily modded along with a ton of oem parts being interchangeable. So for example you can buy say a regular 2.2 or 2.4 Cobalt and take the M62 supercharger from the SS model and swap it on to the 2.2 or 2.4 N/A models or do the same with to the G5 or N/A Saturn Ion and even the HHR lol. Basically the possibilities with the ecotec platform if you do the research is endless. Honda Civic's started out the same wzy ib the early 90s once people realized you could swap different Honda engines into the EkG Honda Civic.

you mentioned the nurburgring record a couple times; Unfortunately you neglected to mention that the record held by the Cobalt SS(TC) was held for TEN years; Let me repeat this; The Cobalt held that Nurburgring record for TEN years! It took ten years of development, and more horsepower for the Civic R to break the record, held by this rather unassuming (unless it had the big spoiler) Chevy.

I had a 1984 Pontiac Sunbird coupe in the early 1990s, and I only had to replace the timing belt once. I look forward to buying a 2006 or 2007 Cobalt LT or SS. People will have more problems with base models when you spend less money. You get what you pay for. I owned other cars, but I love Chevys.
Right off the bat, you say the engine started in the sky/solstice…… not even close lol
Try the cavalier and ion bud
Yo man Happy 100k subs bro
Not to mention the DF Goblin kit car... That would be fun
Here in Belize is like 2k to 8k the most which in USD is 1k to 4k
I had an 08 and everybody couldn’t believe when I hit the flashers on em lmao
I love my 09 LNF cobalt ss/tc sedan. 400hp currently. Could turn it up to ~425hp but try to not completely max it out. Amazing car! My buddy had a 09 cobalt ss/tc coupe running ~360hp.
Auto or stick? What's the mpg
@madebydade305ify I don't think the SS cobalt/tc where ever made in auto. 5spd manual. I don't track mpg much. When I was ruinning 330hp with stock turbo and internals I could get 33mpg at the very best, mostly 28-30. Now I get 24ave mostly highway cruise control.
Always nice when the sedan SS's get some love, i love mine
170k LNF turbo running like a dream
Lets keep them unnoticed, I'd like to pick up another one one day for not a lot of money
Absolutely LOVED my 07 SS/SC! 😊 kinda sad I traded it in.
I'm buying one, I'm buying one, I'm buying one, I'm buying one.
My cobalt ss sc was the best purchase I've ever made
Watch the prices of these cars shoot up like miatas and rsx type s’s now lol.
Yes let’s say good bye while we can
2.2l Cobalt. 2008 new engine. Special edition. For sale...
....gm wanted to go turbo off the gate but they had to still honor the time left with eaton for their superchargers btw....
I hope this car keeps being slept on so i can snatch them all for myself
Drove a cobalt LS for a long time. Hate that car. Interior is so uncomfortable for someone who is 6 ft. Had the coupe not the sedan
I enjoy my 07 ss I love my supercharger whine
Nah. Ive got 2 lol. I love the cobalt ss its affordable for someone like me, yet super cool and very quick
Currently own the 4 door na ss, nice little car for sure but the stock exhaust just doesn’t seem right for what the car is going for imo
Love my supercharged cobalt
Me too. But I wished I would have just gone straight to a turbo and not stage 3.
@@hitmixhyepock9405 yeeeah I figure the goal is a 4 door turbo model and an ion redline.
Turbo swap soon 😈
@@Live2die666ubish sounds sweet! Hope it turns out
Fixing my baby up. For the car show
i HAVE A 2006 CHEVY COBALT NOT THE SS GOT IT WITH 117,000 MILES STILL GOOD PICK UP IF YOU PRESS THAT GAS PEDAL SO YA DONT SEE MANY OUT THERE ONCE AND A GREAT WHILE I ,LL SEE ONE.
I have an 06 g85 car with 53k original miles.on my channel. Love that supercharger whine. The turbo cars have a Porus block issue.
08- early 09 LNF has the ports block issues. Not all LNFs.
Like he said, there were only a few cases. Yet the LSJ has wiring, rusting fuel line & a multitude of other issues. I own both. A heavily modified, meth injected 07 LSJ & an LHU swapped 09 SS with 25 psi of boost.
@@stevenmccauley254 currently LHU swapping mine 🙂
I just got one not to long ago allways wanted one ended up with the base 2.2 auto sedan but I'm a find a ss parts car with manual hopefully I can but it feels impossible to find
Good vid... great bloopers at the end. 😅
Just got mine a few hours ago and I gotta say..HOLY FUCK LOL shit is way quicker then what I was expecting
I got a cobalt SS a couple months ago
One of my workers drive one of these shart capsules, he tries to race every one every day. Sounds like a supercharged weed wacker.
The supercharged ones do sound like ass when you put on an exhaust.
@@CuckBalls Not with a full length header & the right exhaust. Too many idiot kids have owned these cars & given them a bad reputation.
@@stevenmccauley254 the zzp and magnaflow exhausts sound pretty good. 2.5" always sounds better than 3"
I have a 07 2dr coupe 2.4 I’m gonna turbo swap it
Keep an eye on that water pump it’s chain driven
Good Review, love the bloopers lol 🤣🤣🤣
you mentioned the nurburgring record a couple times;
Unfortunately you neglected to mention that the record held by the Cobalt SS(TC) was held for TEN years;
Let me repeat this;
The Cobalt held that Nurburgring record for TEN years!
It took ten years of development, and more horsepower for the Civic R to break the record, held by this rather unassuming (unless it had the big spoiler) Chevy.
Where can I bought one ?
Just got one today 2006 SS for 500$ the car crank but doesn't start the batter is loose
Low mileage red 09 SS Turbo $30,000 on Autotrader right now lmao or 05 SRT-4 low miles $30,000 both cars stock
Got my ss sc for 2800$ do not regret
Excellent review
I got 2009 Cobalt SS with full bolton's & tune with only 75,000 miles, anyone interested?
For the prices you stated. You will be getting a complete donkey. If you spend a little more and get a good example Cobalt SS it’s a great car. You don’t want a real beat up one.
I wouldn’t say the motor is as bulletproof as you sayin I have a 06 supercharged and I built like 15lbs of boost and it threw a rod on me
The LSJ can easily handle upwards of 400whp all day long. Your experience isn't the norm.
So a 2007 chevy cobalt ss sedan isnt super charged?
I wish they offered a better transmission
I've been saying this for 2 or 3 years now
So this car or srt4?
I have a 2010 in my garage
Just picked up a 77k miles 08 cobalt ss for 6100
Me too i use that car for nfs most want 2005
Cobalt ss had launch control
Is that bloopers I hear at 8:32 ?
I have a cobalt it’s just the lt version
Good luck finding a unmolested LNF or LSJ. I had an LSJ that ran high 12s om E-47. The LNF has way better potential dollar for dollar. At this point in time take what you can get
Wasnt the Mazdaspeed 3 the fastest Fwd? 263hp?
they're wayyyy heavier
I currently own a 2008 chevy cobalt LT 2 door and im looking to mod it and make it as good/better than a stock cobalt SS Imma end up dropping like 6k XD but if yall know anything about these cars let me know cause I think I know what I need to do to it but im not 100%
is 131k miles for 4k too much ?
I bought mine with exactly 131k miles for 2k
