    3:40 Thank you, for showing the difference between stock 'Style' settings and with them turned down. I think you're literally the first one to do that. I think it's a very important comparison and in fact, I think maybe you could do a video on how close you can get the Air 3S footage to the Mavic 3 one. Thanks, again.

      Glad you liked the video! I currently run M3, A3S, and Mi4P as my core fleet of photo/video stuff. They’re all slightly different, but on small format screens the quality is nearly indistinguishable. Plus I have a drone for almost any scenario and backups on backups in case the worst happens to one of them!

    Awesome video! Finally someone talks about the ‘style’ section! At the moment I’ve got it set -1 on the sharpening & 0 on the noise. • @TheDroneGeek

      -1 sharpening and 0 on noise reduction is probably a solid combo. I found -1 sharpening still had the image a little too digitally sharp...but that's the beauty of photography and videography...everything is subjective! What looks good to one may not look good to another or vice versa.
      Still, I like your settings overall. Probably softens the image just enough to be noticeable without completely smudging it and introducing unnecessary noise.

      V30 cards work fine for footage from prosumer drones. However, V60 MAY be slightly better. V90 you will spend more on the card than it’s worth as far as return on investment goes. I’d stick between V30 and V60 (I use V30).

    Love this review. I think we can agree that this drone is for the consumer who doesn’t care about color grading and just wants the image straight out of a camera. Professionals may use this here and there. But Mavic, will always be king. Makes you wonder, why not purchase a mavic 3 classic which looks like a steal now days and is more future proof than the air 3s. Food for thought.

    Air 3s it is very goog for the price, there is just one little point that I have not seen reviewers mention maybe I did not search enough but will the Air 3s work will googles 3 as Air 3 does , because currently on the DJI site it does not mention googles 3 compatibility with Air 3s I hope it will be a later update myself as their R2 screen could do with being much brighter hope they come up with a new RC Pro that is much brighter. Although myself I'm waiting for what Mavic 4 brings hopefully an new RC Pro too. Dynamic range is important and Air 3s is good upgrade as is that lidar.

      I think we're all waiting to hear on the Goggles 3 compatibility. At least I have not seen anything yet that points to compatibility. That said...if the Goggles 3 are their full version (not a watered down version of another set of goggles coming down the line), I'd expect there to be compatibility between the Air 3S and the Goggles 3.

      I just learned this earlier today from a long thread on an Air 3s Facebook group.
      My question is, why are more people noticing it now more with this drone and previous drones.
      For example, a few people were saying things like, I came from the Air 3, or Mini 2, etc, and didn't have this issue."
      Why are people coming out about this with this drone and not the previous ones?

    • @bruceclarkephotography
      @bruceclarkephotography 2 месяца назад +1

      @@renderinghues It sounds like the 24mm sensor doesn't have an anti-aliasing filter, which gives you a sharper image, but risks moire on regular grids if it hits the wrong frequency. You can see the moire change patterns as the grid size changes through camera movement. Reducing the sharpness when shooting should help reduce the moire, but good still editing software will have tools to help as well. Video moire is probably more difficult. You can see it on some of Billy Kyle's sample video looking straight down on roofs.

    Why are so many people shooting video on drones using 30 and 60 frame rates, rather than 24 fps?

    • @TheDroneGeek
      @TheDroneGeek  24 дня назад

      For this video specifically - because those are the maximum camera settings as far as performance from the drone is concerned.
      In general, there are two main reasons from my perspective:
      1. More flexible. If I need to slow the footage down I can do that and easily incorporate it into a project that is delivered at 30fps with most people hard-pressed to tell the difference. Both the difference between 24fps and 30fps as well as the difference between my 60fps source footage and the rest of the footage at 30fps.
      2. I think drone footage shot at 24fps can tend to look choppy and not as smooth. Maybe it’s just me, but anytime I shoot in 24fps with a drone I just think it looks significantly worse than if it’s shot at 30 or 60 fps.
      A lot of different perspectives on that. Just depends on how you edit and how you like to deliver.

    Great review. I'm disappointed with Air 3S photos. I don't like the lens distortion, the horizon is tilted down to the right and there's moire over complex details such as over fields and roofs. Raw files are too soft and focus is intermittent. Wide aperture leads to soft landscapes, struggles to focus on buildings in the distance.

    do you think it produce better photos than a mavic2pro?

    • @TheDroneGeek
      @TheDroneGeek  Месяц назад +1

      Yes. The Mavic 2 Pro still stands up today and is a fine drone for use in 2024 if you still have functional batteries. That said, the Air 3S is processing data at a different level than the Mavic 2 and, even at a lower megapixel count, will produce cleaner photos. The only thing that is a consistent let-down (and where the Mavic 2 Pro still reigns supreme compared to ANY Air drone) is the lack of that adjustable aperture. Even if they did an abbreviated range (f2.8 to f7.1 or something), it would be extremely helpful in the depth of field and exposure parts of photography and videography. That wide open, fixed aperture produces some stunning images, but it's not always what a photographer needs.

    So here’s my issue with what you said. Yes, movie studios not all but most were shooting in 1080p. however, that is half the story because of different file types as well as variable types of video bit rate being shot depending on the project. For instance, would you hire someone who is using an inspire 2/3 or someone using a Mavic 3 cine? I won’t even say an Air3s because it’s too obvious so Ill say that your comparing apples to oranges. The Air3s is the epitome of DJI’s pursuit of perfection when it comes to software as well as AI being sold to the prosumer. The Air3s is the new jack of all trades Drone but to say it’s as good as that 4/3 Hasselblad sensor with the flexibility of a variable aperture? is kind of a stretch imo
    Especially when your messing around with the shutter speed and start to get occasional instances of weird motion blur to contend with in post which is not exclusive to this drone( general DJI issue)

    • @senaritradutta

      @ I do commercial work, I regularly color grade , and im familiar with the DJI platform. so outside of the inspire 3, The Mavic 3 or pro cine is the preferred Drone for commercial work amongst the majority of my clients and im sure Drone Geek will agree with me on that point. Also, the type of software can be personal preference so some people use, final cut pro, some people use adobe products, and some people(like myself) use Davinci paid or free version. It depends

    With the new internal camera processing systems, it’s not accurate to compare stats with a camera that lacks these systems. The Air3s, for example, has a better processing system than the Air3. While comparing their specifications can be fun, as shown by the comparison test results, it’s not really valid. Just my opinion! 😊

    • @TheDroneGeek
      @TheDroneGeek  Месяц назад

      That's the fun thing about comparisons, they help us to see just how far we've come or just how much better (or worse) something is than a predecessor. In the case of the Air 3 versus the Air 3S, the fun is in seeing the upgrades that were brought to the drone and its camera system over the last year or so. In another case where we compare the Air 3S against the Mavic 3, the fun is in seeing how the processing and overall upgraded hardware and intelligence of the Air 3S stacks up against the superior specs of the Mavic 3 that are traditionally sought-after by photographers and videographers for more flexible multimedia.
      Totally valid to look at all sorts of technology against one another -- especially when all of the drones are at least in the ballpark of one another quality-wise. Now, if I had compared the Air 3S to, let's say, the BWine F7...well, then I'd be pushing it. ;)

    Very helpful video, thank you. Regarding the auto panorama stitching that you mentioned, my Mini 4 Pro generally does a pretty good job with it, but more often than not will have a few stitching issues with the ‘spherical’ panos (and occasionally 180 degree). It seems like this is usually worse in windy conditions, where the drone is probably struggling to hold its position, so I was hoping the Air 3S would do better in this regard.
    In your experience, is the issue more to do with the automatic stitching done by DJI’s software, meaning that it can still be stitched properly in something like Lightroom? Or are the image perspectives too different to recover it in any program?

    • @TheDroneGeek
      @TheDroneGeek  2 месяца назад +1

      Based on my experience, I think DJI's automatic stitching lacks the ability to accurately predict pixel patterns to properly account for mispositions when in certain ambient conditions. This is an area where DJI could absolutely use some improvements. I think it's a low priority issue for them overall since MOST of the time it works flawlessly...but even if it misstitches something 10% of the time it can be extremely frustrating for end users that like to shoot panoramas.

    • @TheDroneGeek
      @TheDroneGeek  Месяц назад

      12MP mode does not process or touch the noise or sharpness of the image. It's left completely raw and at its native resolution. When you edit the 12MP photos, you are getting essentially a block of clay with which you can sculpt how you please. When you shoot in the 48/50MP mode, you are allowing the drone to process, denoise, and upscale the image to a larger resolution. When it does this, you are still able to manipulate the photo pretty much how you want, but it won't be nearly as flexible as the 12MP when it comes to denoising and sharpening especially.

    • @gabrielsansar6187
      @gabrielsansar6187 Месяц назад

      @@TheDroneGeek Ok that makes perfect sense BUT !!!!!!!!! half the people online are claiming it is a native 12mp and the other half native 48 or 50mp... so either one side is right and ur right... or the other side are right and its the exact opposite of what ur saying... us mere mortals have no chance

      This one is more subjective than you’d think. Yes, the upscaled resolution is great in the 48/50MP, but I like to have more control over my edits. Some people care less about that flexibility and want a “ready” image right off the camera. It just depends in what means more to you.
