Love your "spotter". Great job on the VLOG style, but I enjoy your normal mode too. Keep up the good work and thanks for all you do for the drone community.
Well done Russ ! That real time vision positioning test by not allowing it to acquire the home point is very awesome. Impressed by all the new features.
Wow! Impressive! Thanks Russ for your presentation of this new drone. I have been waiting for it and anticipating a great performance from it. I will be picking one up really soon. I am anticipating your low light review and hope to see some really nice still photos if you will. Thanks again bud!
Hello Russ, thank you for your excellent new style for the DJI Air 3S review. The Action 5 did an outstanding job along with the DJI wireless mics. Excellent work with the real life testing of the 3S. I’ll be watching for your additional reviews on the Air 3S🙏. I’ll be holding off on this new Air 3S since I own the Air 3 w/ RC-2 controller.
Woke up this morning and bought the Air 3s before watching any reviews, just hope it's an upgrade from the Mavic 2 pro I've been flying for years. Thanks for a great review Russ.
I took my AIR 2S up the morning after Milton passed through Central Florida. I hadn't taken her up in about 2 months and in my haste I didn't establish a homepoint. Long story shorter, getting ready to land, almost directly above me and had the very definition of a FlyAway. I was able to keep her Aloft once battery hit (10%) critical level but otherwise effectively unresponsive. The Auto mapping feature would have been a lifesaver. Moral of the story, don't get in too big of a rush and make sure to periodically calibrate your compass and IMU. I did get it back using the find my drone feature for the first time ever. It was close to a mile away in a neighbor's field. Under the circumstances, he was quite understanding and helpful. Thanks Dave. And lastly, while I do love my AIR 2S to death. The AIR 3S, while still fugly might be a worthy upgrade considering the auto mapping and LIDAR. Also, "60mph" daaang! 😋
Hi Russ, definitely liked the casual approach to this video, found it refreshing. Probably would be good once an awhile to throw one in, instead of all formal type ones. 👍
Your my go to drone channel and was the first video on the 3s I looked at today. Well done informal style, but non the less very informative. Definitely time to sell my 1st drone from 3 years ago the Mavic Air 2
Ross, Thanks for the review. So much similarities between Mavic 3 Pro and Mavic 3S and they are as near as same weight!!! They should definitely raised the weight of the Mavic Pro new model at the list to 1.3kg to make a difference between them, otherwise they will be stuck in sales with the Mavic 3 Pro versions I believe an extra camera, wouldn’t make up the mind of many buyers as the Mavic 3S being good drone with similar stability, weight and with 2 cameras!
Another excellent review, Russ. Thank you. I have wondered why people don’t use the products they are reviewing, like the Action 5, as their main camera. Glad you are doing that. I like what the Air 3s has, but I don’t see it as enough to convince me to purchase. If I was doing more with my drone, I might be more interested, but my drone business just isn’t taking off (pun intended).
Damn! I was right a year ago! They surely took their time with this! I can't believe they didn't call the Dji Air 3 Pro! Anyway, I got my brand new Epic Mavic 3 FlyMore combo last year for half the price! It changed my whole life! 😍🤩
I hear you Russ. I have an ATV channel that has also spread out to two way radios, my wife’s Jeep, my pickup, cameras, emergency lighting….if I’m interested in it, there’s a video on it, lol.
Great video Russ! I like this style, but I like all your videos. I'm still using a Mavic 2 Pro, I'm wondering if I should upgrade to another model. Thanks!
Ugh - of course I am getting it. I may sell off the Mavic 3 Pro and use this for my top of line best work, at least until there is a new Mavic. I am thinking nor before this years holidays. Its a good prices for the 3s, but of course I have a set of ND Filters, and a set of specialty filters, Long Exposure super dark. Then there's the Wide Angle (at least it's not $179 like Mavic 3 Pro, but still. I am anxious to see and use the BEACON. Any word on release timing?
I think the auto mode on focus tracking would be more active if you were going slower. Try it on walking or driving slower, because if your travelling at its max tracking speed it can't get around you properly
Yes, the four wheeler, It's just the tool for the trade. Not to mention it's a great toy, but mainly for work, always for work, that's the way to get it passed your home boss.
Just ordered a 3s today. I own a Mavic Pro and an Inspire 2. I've been wanting to get a new folding drone for a while. I think this one will be what I'm looking for. No plans to get rid of the Inspire 2 as I really need/like the RAW footage for matching with my RED. I hope the 3s will match well with my Lumix for 4:2:2 footage. I know I'll love the portability and omni avoidance. I may do a comparison for those that are interested.
Not sure if it’s just perspective but when you did the flyby at high speed I noticed the obstacle avoidance was disabled and it looked like you got pretty close to those power lines. Nice 4x4 for tooling around though definitely useful for your area.
Love your vlog style. It is carefree and msg not scripted looks and feel honest. I am still looking for a reviewer who can test active track for sports like auto cross on a bike, tennis.
Hey, Russ! Thanks for the nice launch day overview. I think overall this is a pretty major upgrade from the Air 3. I think the reason it didn't do much in the auto active track mode is because it was having to work too hard to keep up with you. I think if you slow down a little, it would do a lot more. I'm one of those guys who primarily want my drones for photos. I have a Mavic 3 Classic and love the photos it takes. Do you have a Mavic 3 you could compare this to? Thanks again, great job!
I'm waiting for your Drone, ATV, BBQ channel. I want to see you review and talk about whatever you're passionate about. Give it a go, I bet you it'll be a success. Especially given the foundation that you've already created. I'll be on the lookout brother.
When you said "get on the edge of town -- get away from people" I chuckled because I knew what you we're talking about. Last weekend, I went to a nearby lake and arboretum to do audio/video field recording tests and OMG the people that were bugging me. It didn't matter that I positioned in places which were away from trails, etc -- once they spotted me -- they had to see what I was doing. When I was in the arboretum -- the thought came to my mind for possible uses for a good quality drone in a place like that. But then I thought about the real possibility of someone calling the police because they saw a crazy person with a drone in the arboretum. Anyway, nice vid.
The video format is just great! Would be interesting to see a side-by-side comparison of the photo quality with Air 3 and Air 3S. BTW, you have to travel to Avesta in Sweden to find the world's largest dalahäst, it is 13 meters high and originates from Swedish handicraft. The stave church however originates from Norway.
Nice video. The action camera was good for this style of VLOG. From the shadow it looks like a GoPro with the creator add-on. What type of camera did you use?
18:00 if you look at the top of the drone after it lands and look slightly up and line it up with the houses in the background and then go back to before take off it’s just slightly off!! That’s soooo crazy!!
Clipped a hydro line a few weeks ago on my Mini 4 Pro... saw last minute but too late... did a summersault mid air, caught itself, and waited for next direction.... think just the bottom touched. Got lucky!
Especially in the studio at the beginning, it was easy to tell you were using a different camera. It wasn’t great there. Out in the field it seemed like it performed better
Idk the 1 inch sensor, lidar, and new performance might make me pick up just the aircraft once it's available. backward compatibility with batteries is gonna be important. But I'm expecting the aircraft to cost right about 800 alone
@@forbiddenkalamari it’s not that major tbh it’s not worth $800 and the hassle of selling my Air 3 to me but everyone’s opinions different. I’m waiting either for Air 4 or Mavic 4. Lidar is pretty pointless you need to be someone who has an issue with crashing a lot or you fly in forests but in my case I just use an avata 2 for that. The 1 inch sensor isn’t that serious we had it in the 2S and the Air 3 camera is enough for me, battery life is the same so there’s truly not a big reason to get it.
Have you tried a 360 photo with this? Does it still leave a hole in the top of the image like the previous Mavic drones or will the camera point straight up like the Mini 4?
And to add, I have been using this feature for following me while riding my ebike. I added a controller attachment to my handle bars and the 4 keeps up with me, even at 28 miles per hour!
Love this video. Thank you for the time and effort you put into this. I only have the Air 2 and the pro 2 drones. I want to upgrade and this is helping me decide which way to go. However, I am just a recreational pilot. Mavic Pro 3 or Mavic air 3 S? Can't decide, Thank you
Since the new auto tracking mode was launched last year for the new software update, like the The DJI Mini 4 Pro's auto tracking mode the DJI Air 3S tracks the user from different positions as they move around, transitioning randomly. It's best used in open areas, and using it in areas with trees or along a road or trail can lead to the drone losing the subject or crashing.
Great video, vlog is a nice break from the standard format. I love new drones but its only a hobby for me, I don't make any money from it, and I kinda would like it to stay that way, the only negative about that is too justify a purchase on a new one. I have the big boss Mavic 3, so not sure if I should or not, but the Air 3's is looking good for sure.
Good video. Liked and subscribed. I've been waiting for this drone to come out, and also waiting on the Mini 5 Pro to come out. Obviously this one is over the 250G limit and you must register it. My question is what all goes into the registering and what restrictions come along after it is registered (is your every move then tracked?). I just fly for fun. Just curious. Thanks!
"is your every move then tracked?" Potentially, yes. It does not phone home but the control telemetry to and from the drone contains its position but also the current position of the controller. What this means is anyone with the right equipment can detect your drone and, more importantly, where YOU are. This is potentially useful since you too can identify other drones in the area and avoid collision. However, my drone does NOT appear on my Android phone so apparently not just anyone can detect your drone. So it has not been quite as alarming as first proposed. Now if FAA starts requiring online connection during the flight, THAT would be scary plus some locations simply don't have internet. Registering is super easy. go to the FAA drone zone, tell it whether you are registering for hobby (one number works for all your drones) or commercial (not hobby) in which case each drone must be registered. It will also require the serial number of the Remote ID module contained in the drone. This number is provided on a certificate but I think also you can view it in the remote controller. Cost is $5 on a credit card. Print the little certificate and keep it with you or in my case, the drone carry case. You also label the drone itself, exterior visibility, with this number.
