    Everything about Spock was hypnotic. He had the warmest smile, when he was allowed to

    • @MetaTrek

      One might even say he was a fascinating individual.

    Spock: "This is not hypnosis. Were this a television show from the mid to late 20th century, the cen sors would have no reason to remove the scene showing what I am about to do."

      @@MetaTrek You, Gazelle (who did the Animated TNG), TrekCulture, JessieGender, Orangeriver, Lore, and Rowan J Coleman, are the highest quality Star Trek on youtube. I would love to see a collaboration, but that would be too cool.. TrekCulture, You, and Gazelle are at a production level akin to Paramount+ quality already; with the others not far behind. I am pretty sure you Paramount+ execs and producers read this. I am a loyal Paramount+ Subscriber. I would be on your streaming service more days out of a week if you had daily Star Trek content, which any of these fine artists, researchers, and fans could easily accomplish. More time on your streaming service means more $ and more subscribers. These are high quality content creators. Think about it, Paramount+.... It is logical. ;)

      It was great seeing that side of Spock. I think that would be more Leonards natural self. I love Leonard and the original Star Trek

      Nimoy really got a chance to act outside the box as Spock in that episode. I wonder what it would have been like if they did a Spock episode a la "The Enemy Within", only with Spock being divided into a full human and a full Vulcan. Not having that seems like a lost opportunity. It would have been interesting to see Nimoy without the ears and eyebrows just once in Star Trek!

    Looking forward to part 2 ! Funny to think Spock was randy in his younger years . Seems like some of the books would go into more detail about the meld, such as why it is necessary to touch, do Romulians have the ability to meld since they are related to the Vulcans, etc . I was surprised to see buttons with actual labels on them in TOS, didn't notice that before, they probably needed it for the plot .

    • @MetaTrek
      @MetaTrek  4 года назад +2

      Thanks for the comment! Spock was at least a tease in his younger years, testing his abilities, but it doesn't seem that he ever went "all the way" with it, perhaps on account of Pon Farr. I haven't read many of the books, as they often don't seem to capture the feel of the series, but more background would be nice. They do explore the meld a bit in Star Trek: Enterprise. You'd think the Romulans could do anything the Vulcans are capable of, but their culture probably didn't lend itself to such subtle explorations, and so they remain latent. They may not have intended the labels on the buttons to be visible on screen, hence you never having noticed them before, but with DVD quality, everything little detail is visible.

    Correction, the neural neutralizer was also seen in "Whome Gods Destroy".

    • @MetaTrek
      @MetaTrek  Год назад

      Good catch. The neural neutralizer chair made one other appearance in "Operation: Annihilate" as well. I guess Spock had to sit in the chair at least once himself.

      @@MetaTrekanother good catch, however, it was only the chair, not the neutralizer.

    I'd not heard of the "truth beam" before, a fascinating nugget of what Trek might have been ☺️

    " . . . that is, until the CBS censors intervened."
    Star Trek was originally broadcast on the NBC network, not CBS! Sorry, you lose 20 geek cred points.

    • @MetaTrek
      @MetaTrek  4 года назад +4

      I concede my 20 geek points to you sir. For whatever reason, when I narrated my script I substituted CBS for NBC (which was in my script), I've been so disgruntled with CBS lately that I guess I'm blaming them for everything!

    If memory serves, in the scipt (forget which draft) Spock puts one hand on Van Gelder's head and one on his stomach. I'm sure there's a snide comment in there somewhere.

    • @MetaTrek
      @MetaTrek  Год назад

      I recall that too. It may have survived up to the final draft. I believe they changed it to what we're familiar with while filming it on set.

    I think using the Yokogawa CSU-X1 to represent the "Truth Beam" is confusing to anyone who does not read the description.

    • @MetaTrek
      @MetaTrek  4 года назад

      Thank you for the comment. Representing the Truth Beam proved to be a challenge. I was reluctant to use it, but ultimately felt the CSU-X1 was a sufficient stand-in, mainly because it has a color wheel similar to what I imagine the Truth Beam might have had, and it is a visually appealing image. Sorry for any confusion this might have caused, especially for those familiar with the actual device.

    I watched this trying to find out what was going on when Pope Francis and Joe Biden touched foreheads at the G7 meeting a few days ago. Was it a Mind Meld?
