Another thing: one of the stipulations that George Lucas had was that Lonestar was not dressed like Han Solo. So Mel Brooks dressed him like Indiana Jones.
@Barnaclebeard booo, your comment is lame and useless. Scary Movie gets sequels because new horror flicks need ripped off. Nobody cares about the new Starwars movies enough to think the parody needs a sequel.
Spaceballs does NOT need a sequel, especially with several members of the cast no longer with us. It didn't need an animated TV series either, but we got it anyway.
You also left out that Brooks credits Michael Winslow, who played the radar operator in the movie, with saving him a ton of money by doing the sound effects himself.
If they do make a sequel, I really like the idea of it being titled Spaceballs 3: The Search for Spaceballs 2 Can be a spoof of how the whole 9 movie series was made out of order and can address why some characters are no longer there (if they even want to do that).
Thanks for this one! Spaceballs is one of Mel Brooks' funniest parodies, where Nothing, not Star Wars, not Star Trek, not Planet of the Apes, or even Transformers: the Movie, was sacred. Even the G. I. Joe Defiant Shuttle Complex got in on the act. So many scenes to appreciate- my three faves are: 1. Capt. Lone Starr (a play on both Han Solo and Filmation's Bravestarr): "The first thing we do is we Drop the matching luggage!" 2. Dark Helmet: "You IDIOTS! You captured their STUNT Doubles!" 3. Colonel Sandurz: "No, Sir! I did not see you playing with your toys again, Sir!"
Folks, in the airline pilot world, we quote lines from this and the Airplane movies daily..... "Billy, have you ever seen a grown man naked?" Of course, never with an actual child in the cockpit.
The "Spaceballs 2: The search for more money" title was shown at the end of the Spaceballs movie, it would be a let down if it was called anything else.
When I bought my eldest ot see it fadó fadó, he said "in about 20 years everyone will know just how great it is" - he loved the 'real-time marketing /VHS scene in particular (we still do it at family gettogethers/weddings when the mood hits). 20+ Earthturns later - DAMN TOOTIN' - the Boy was right!
Airplane, Blazing Saddles, Hot Shots (part deux), Life of Brian, Meaning of Life, Monty Python & the Holy Grail, Police Squad(s), Young Frankenstein - TAKE YER PICK........ Shoutout to Sledge Hammer - THE SERIES!
Rocky, I really enjoy your production, most 'things you didn't know ' videos are fill with things we all already knew, but you always give us new information
I will have to give you credit. I did not know about almost all of these. Good job. Also, I have no idea how they could possibly top this movie. Especially with today's political and cultural climate.
I always thought it would be funny if Mel Brooks Came back to this, and did a Parody Special Edition, including deleted scenes, but of coruse, just filming new stuff with the actors as they were older, and sticking them into the original movie,
Thank you Mr. Mel Brooks, Showing me not take my self so seriously. Although your work is off the chart, it is one of the best things going in a world with out direction. Miss your lovely wife Ann. Ruth, 2:4 The Lord Be With You................
They were talking about Spaceballs 2 around the time The Phantom Menace came out. I loved reading the novelisation as a child, years before I actually saw the movie on TV. So many great lines ("They jammed the radar" is one of mine).
It's not that he (George Lucas) didn't want Mel Brooks to make money off of merchandising... it's that he didn't want a line of merchandise out there that could possibly be confused with Star Wars merchandise.
Knew most of these except for the fact that SB2 is currently in production. Like, ACTUALLY in production. I'd heard rumors for over 30 years of course, but this time it's not just an empty rumor. Details are sparse but it is being bankrolled by Amazon.
Should have thrown in Tim Russ! I know it's fairly well known among the deep nerds, but it's surprising how many casual fans of Spaceballs and Voyager still have not heard this.
Why would *anyone* think green screen technology would damage their eyes? It's just a green backdrop. The camera didn't shoot lasers or anything. And blue screen tech had been used for decades already.
For several years, I thought that Elon would have to make that sequel a reality. He ran out of power levels for teslas, so making an even quicker one would need a movie to introduce its new power mode.
I saw this at the odeon leicester Sq I remember when the man playing the organ when down in his pit people cheered not sure they were happy what he played or they were glad he was going away 🙈
I was a little excited to hear about Spaceballs 2. But then I heard that Josh Gad is apparently involved, and it's clearly going to be garbage. Whoever told that guy he had talent was just being mean for no reason.
Yeah. The fact that he is involved and that its amazon doesn't give me any hope for it being funny. I just don't they will let Mel brooks make a Mel Brooks film.
Another thing: one of the stipulations that George Lucas had was that Lonestar was not dressed like Han Solo. So Mel Brooks dressed him like Indiana Jones.
He also forbade he make any merchandise. Thats why we get the spaceballs merchandise scene.
That’s awesome…..I wonder what George thought of it
@@chrisnotyou oh, you watched this video also. Well done 👏
@@CsykKrit No, I didn't.
@@chrisnotyouapparently you’re not fluent in sarcasm. The video states that no merchandise could be made.
A sequel without John Candy just wouldn’t be good.
Yeh. He’s his own best friend 🤪
Some films just aren't made to have a sequel. This whole category can't have sequels. I mean, could you imagine "Men in tights 2"?
@@Kahsimiah Or Scary Movie 11?

Scary Movie gets sequels because new horror flicks need ripped off.

mel brooks is a prophet with the line, the search for more money
Critics calling Spaceballs "silly and juvenile" is hardly criticism. It IS silly and juvenile.
The cast was perfect.
Just make sure you aren't talking about their stunt doubles
Spaceballs does NOT need a sequel, especially with several members of the cast no longer with us. It didn't need an animated TV series either, but we got it anyway.
Although, having a Mel Brooks style parody of the Disney trilogy might be great
"Whats the matter Col Sanders...... CHICKEN!?!!!!"
I always thought it was stupidly simple no-effort- to-write joke. But I did laugh when I read your comment, so it wins me.
In my Jr. High English class we read "Spaceballs: The Book" in class, out loud, taking turns as a class activity.
About Barf, the line that Barf says about his tail having a mind of its own makes more sence now that we know another person was operating the tail.😅
You also left out that Brooks credits Michael Winslow, who played the radar operator in the movie, with saving him a ton of money by doing the sound effects himself.

Josh Gad doing a Spaceball sequel? With Amazon? That’s a big NO from me.
Who is he?
yeah i am thinking the same thing, it's not going to be good!
That was my exact thought. No... WE dont need it.... WE DONT WANT IT.
So this is what it's like someone narrating a video without background music I absolutely love it Three thumbs up

Definitely knew about the merchandise thing. Love how Mel says in the movie merchandising where the real money of the movie is made !!

Ludicrous speed going into hyper..active ..😂
Brooks must have had the Moranis fever when he agreed to let Gad get anywhere near it. Did he see Pixels? Or any of his other ‘movies’.
Isn't Mel a bit past it now? He's 98!😊

I really wanted the Spaceballs flame thrower.
RIP John Candy
Amazon will toxify the movie with a Mary sue, bumbling male lead, and a plot that can drain my macaroni.

And how exactly would they bring back Barf? CGI?
Sweet Jesus I hope they don't make a sequel. That would be a tragedy.
No remakes or sequels... The first one was perfect. Hollywood needs to stop messing with classics to earn a cheap buck.
As long as they don’t screw it up
There is no chance they won't. Not a single one.
