That "Little ol' band from Texas" gave us some bangers. RIP Dusty.
Absolutely one of the greatest rock songs ever. ZZ top knew how to rock big time. Guitars in this are phenomenal and the vocals are so rich. Just a blast. 🎶🎶🎶 Next " She's Got Legs". Great reaction. Thanks Harri. You can say buttocks. Lol. Cheers from Canada 🇨🇦
Love the joy and excitement discovering a new great song brings to your face. Check out "Just Got Paid" and "Tube Snake Boogie" next.
Back in those days all the great songs were 2 to 3 minutes long and that was it. That’s why I have so much trouble finding songs that aren’t too short. Nice reaction Harri.
Waiting for the Bus / Jesus Just Left Chicago should be your next listen, old school ZZ
prob my favorite. :)
Definitely my fav!
Ditto
absolutely!
Without a doubt.
"Waiting for the Bus/Jesus Just Left Chicago" for some more blues from the heart. I think the pronouncement of "tush" was for a better rhyme and radio play. We all knew what he meant.
For a different side of ZZ Top (very blues) is "Blue Jean Blues"
“I’m Bad I’m Nationwide” “Tube Snake Boogie”, “Got Me Under Pressure”, “Cheep Sunglasses“, “Beer Drinkers & Hell Raisers”, “Waitin’ for The Bus - Jesus Just Left Chicago“, and 100 more songs from ZZ Top.
70's era ZZ Top inhabits the funky space between John Lee Hooker and Lynyrd Skynyrd. When you're ready for more check out "Cheap Sunglasses", "Just Got Paid", "I'm Bad, I'm Nationwide", and "I Thank You" among many others.
I love Z Z Top! You can feel bad or be still when they play! Great pick Harri! Great Groove!!!!! Your reaction was grooooovy.
I am cracking up on your reaction! Your discussion on the meaning of and the pronunciation of the t word in this song was so fun.
RIP Dusty. “Beer Drinkers and Hell Raisers” is an awesome tune! Nice duet between Dusty and Billy.
Blue Jean Blues is a must. They have a ton of great songs, but this one is incredible blues.
Agreed and also Fool For Your Stockings
👌
Howdy from Texas another one of our treasures.
'Tush' was an early hit from the 70's, sung by late bassist Dusty Hill (R.I.P.)... Billy Gibbons (guitar) does most of ZZ Top's vocals, Dusty did some lead vocals and backup vocals. Frank Beard is the drummer. And yes, "tush" refers to women's booty 😍
ZZ Top is not exclusively a rock band... they have blues, funk, R&B, rock n' roll... even pop and electronic influences. They were all about cranking out fun tunes...
Guitarist Billy Gibbons, as a teenager, met Jimi Hendrix when his Texas band opened for the Jimi Hendrix Experience in the late 60's; Jimi told everyone that Billy Gibbons was his favorite guitar player and he was going to be a star... Sadly, Jimi Hendrix passed away in 1970 before ZZ Top released their 1st album in 1971, but he was right!
Some of ZZ Top's biggest hits were pop songs - 'Gimme all your loving'... 'Sharp-dressed man' ... 'Legs' ... 'Velcro fly'... Got me under pressure'.
Other tunes included more bluesy rock tracks - "I'm bad, I'm nationwide" ... 'Cheap sunglasses' ... 'Just got paid'... "My head's in Mississippi".
I was gonna request some ZZtop! glad someone did so.
You’ve really missed out till you’ve seen them live!!! Best live show ever! Cheap sunglasses!😎
Bass player Dusty Hill sings this one. Guitarist Billy Gibbons sings most of their songs. RIP Dusty.
my all time favorite from ZZ Top, Tush and The Grange
Their roots are deep in blues, especially Billy F. Gibbons. He was previously with a band called The Moving Sidewalks before founding ZZ Top. Their songs go from hard rock to smooth style such as "Rough Boy". A lot of their songs have to do with body parts per se'. Definitely do a deep dive of them. RIP Dusty.
I remember trying to explain this song to my daughters, when they were little........🤣🤣
That whole album is fire. Half is live.
I love your reactions. Thank you, especially for going back to the late 60’s/early 70’s, my prime time generation.
Harri, you need to hear Waiting For The Bus/Jesus Just Left Chicago. Great two songs that are blended into one.
I love that you can relate them with blues. That's definitely what they are, classic rock was very blues influenced.
tush is also (according to the band) a stand term for lavish or luxurious
Saw them in 1990 because of a spare ticket and accepted the invitation. Oh my word it was an extremely well produced concert experience first class and one of the best in my life. It still stays in my mind.
MOVE ME ON DOWN THE LINE always was one the lesser Known rockers
One of those ole gritty RnR tunes that stands time.
Exciting to watch you discover!! 🤩✌🏾👍🏽
ZZTop "Heaven, Hell or Houston" song has such a kickass guitar towards the end...amazing
I've had the pleasure of seeing them in concert twice. What a show!!! They were fantastic! RIP Dusty.
Mexican Blackbird, Balinese, Backdoor Love Affair, and Heard It On The X are my picks off this great album.
Dusty Hill, the bassist, sang this song. He does the harmonies with guitarist BIlly Gibbons, who has the low, growly voice. Dusty passed away recently. A very underrated bass player and singer. Check out his Elvis impersonation on ZZ Top's "Viva Los Vegas."
This is bass player Dusty Hill (RIP) singing this one. He doesn't sing as many ZZ Top songs as guitar player Billy Gibbons does. Try "Nasty Dogs And Funky Kings", "Heard It On The X", "Precious And Grace", "Beer Drinkers And Hell Raisers", "Arrested For Driving While Blind", or "Master Of Sparks". You'd probably enjoy all of them.
I once saw a quote from Billy Gibbons that their musical style was like '4 flat tyres on a muddy road',nuff said!
Fool For Your Stockings and Blue Jean Blues should be on your ZZ TOP Playlist. 👌💯
Hey ,Mick in England here, noticed ZZ top are your new play thing, you should give"heard it on the X" a listen, don't think you'll be disappointed.
Love that Lil Ol Band from Texas. ZZ Top & Stevie Ray Vaughn are just a couple of examples of that hard driving Texas ROCK!
Love it! And tush is pronounced like took with an sh on the end instead of a k. 😉
Hot blue and righteous, Blue Jean blues.
Two non chart goldies
First bunch of albums were all blues, then they got more rock and funk. One of the greatest three-piece bands ever to hit the stage.
"It's blues time ...I'm talkin' 'bout those $15.95 'Come See Me At Midnight' Stockings..."
ZZ TOP - Fool For Your Stockings & Nasty Dogs and Funky Kings
ruclips.net/video/wT3Kh-GgMbU/видео.html
& watch out for the Mac truck that is Dusty's bass on Nasty Dogs... lol
RIP Dusty. Thank You!
You're rolling Harri, keep it up
That Little ol Texas band! ♥️
We saw ZZ TOP on New Years Eve around 1980 at Tarrant County Convention Center. Auld Lange Syne on electric guitar 🎸. An enormous American flag 🇺🇸 unrolled from the ceiling.
Blue Jean Blues is a great slow hand blues guitar song by ZZ Top.
I'm only part way into it but you have to realize that there were multiple good singers in that band. one of their best bangers that isn't far away from this really is called I heard it on the x. it's off the album called fandango. but in this one you get to hear both of them trading vocal licks. and it's one of the biggest treats you'll ever hear.
Beer Drinkers and Hell Raisers also features both voices.
You will enjoy going down this rabbit hole Harry! RIP Dusty Hill!
I'm with Harri on the pronunciation, New England born & raised.
Greatest little band from Texas.
Backdoor Melody is amazing. Its 4 songs in one. And it's amazing. Fandango is a great album.
the song that really introduced zz to the world. still remember the first time i heard it in '75 like it was yesterday. they did a ton of great tunes but 'cheap sunglasses' still takes the cake for me with 'waitin' for the bus/jesus just left chicago' right behind
My sister and I just saw them in concert Friday night!! It was awesome!!!
If you like ZZ Tops style of blues ( and who doesn't? ) then you should check out Johnny Winter. From his Still Alive And Well cd i recommend Rock Me Baby, Rock And Roll and the title song. Memory Pain and Hustled Down In Texas From Second Winter. Johnny Winter is one of the greatest Blues/Rock guitarists all time. Please check him out.
Great reaction to a great song. Songs were short back then for radio and for one side of a 45. They should have done an album version. And yes, the title does refer to something more risque. Going downtown looking for some...sex.
For the passed 2 days I have been listening to ZZ Top "One Foot In The Blues" which I think is a Warner Bros. Catalog issue after ZZ left the label. But it's a good collection
Harri's found a rabbit hole to jump into. 😀 Rock does have it's roots in the Blues.
Yeah man, they're deep in the blues - that's what made them so great! When everyone else was straying from what made rock-n-roll what it was supposed to be! Check out Jesus Just Left Chicago!!!
ZZ Top has some killer songs, some my favs are:
Nasty Dogs and Funky Kings
I Just Got Paid
Heard it on the X
Manic Mechanic
My Heads in Mississippi
Balinese
2000 Blues
Great Reaction Harri. Can't go wrong with Billy and the boys. RIP Dusty. They are a fantastic band.. Sound like ten people playing. Nope.. just the three of them. 🤴🇬🇧👍🙃🇨🇦🇺🇸
I blasted this in my car on my 8-track player back in the day while out looking for some.......😁
"Southern Blues Rock" I would call the genre. YES! I think "LaGrange" is their opus.
This whole album was outrageous
Lil ol band from Texas. Great 3 piece band. My brother and I use to get high smokin weed and listening to this album
Blue Jean Blues
I'm only just starting to listen to it but it's definitely called tush not too short. Tuhsh
ZZ Top is great! They play the blues, but they don't sing the blues! Awesome power trio..
My favorite ZZ Top song is Jesus Just Left Chicago. So bluesy.
Deguello album. Fool For your Stockings. Killer songs. All of them.
😂This song has the bassist as lead singer
Straight whiskey drinkin’, cigar smokin’ Texas Blues, man. Enjoy it with some BBQ Brisket & a Shiner Bock.
Love the 70s ZZ Top. Check out "Nasty dogs and Funky kings" and maybe revisit "beer drinkers and hell raisers" live in Europe 1980. I love when Billy and Dusty go back and forth on vocals
Blue Jean blues, sharp dressed man.. 😁
Guitarist Billy Gibbons sings "La Grange" Bassist Dusty Hill sings "Tush"
Sharp Dressed Man and Gimme All Your Lovin'
Dusty Hill, the bassist, did the lead vocal on this song. He is a far superior vocalist to Billy Gibbons but Gibbons was the lead vocalist in most of ZZTop's other songs.
In American.. tush is what we would call fanny… as opposed to to the American use of the word “fanny” which means “backside” to those brothers.
Here is a list (in no particular order) of ZZ Top songs to check out:
A Fool for your Stockings
My Head's in Mississippi
Arrested for Driving While Blind
Cheap Sunglasses
Dust My Broom
I Thank You
Manic Mechanic
Pearl Necklace
Tube Snake Boogie
Waitin' for the Bus
I think you will love them all.
This song was sang by Dusty Hill, the bass player.
A track of ZZ Top you should listen to is “Waiting for the bus- Jesus just
EFT Chicago”, I think it will resonate with you.
This is great, rock with a capitol R. 🎸🎸🎶🎶👍
I do believe that's Dusty Hill (the bass player, R.I.P.) singing lead on this...
I bought this album when i was 14 in 1975
Songs had to be less than three minutes to play on the radio and most artists kept that in mind when making songs back in the day!
Just fire! LOL on the tush!
Waiting On The Bus/Jesus Just Left Chicago. It's 2 in 1 without a super clean transition and it just works anyway.
We say tooch here to so yeah on the pronunciation of it and yeah, this is one of their shorter ones but they only had 2-3 minutes of play on the radio back then. Not a bad sound for 3 guys...their videos were cool too once we got into the 80s and technology.
The vocals on this song was by the late and great bassist Dusty Hill. Normally it's guitarist Billy Gibbons.
The Balinise
Heard It On The X
Beer Drinkers & Hell Raisers
Francine
The tush pronunciation in this song, is the ONLY time I haven’t heard it pronounced the way you did… I think this was to rhyme it with “much”
To add another to requests.... Nasty Dogs and Funky Kings”
I understand about the short songs
a necessary evil to get played on the radio.
For a long ZZ Top “adventure”
try “Waiting For The Bus/
Jesus Just Left Chicago “
Two songs but
Those Who Know
play em’ together.
The players were influenced by the mega stations on the other side of the border with Mexico that sent blues and country music across the US. The music was not overproduced and was raw because there was no concern about how people in the Midwest would react to some of the risque elements. Country and blues dealt with the human condition and had more songs in which the story mattered more than just the melody geared towards teenagers and pop fans.
@HarriBest Reactions...Do you remember reacting to "Beer Drinkers and Hell Raisers" by ZZ Top?
this song is pure boogie-woogie
Check out Blue Jean blues, Hot Blue and Rightous, ZZ forever
It's called Texas Blues.
Harri, please react to their tune "Mexican blackbird" next,or "bluejean blues"
If you like it bluesy and enjoy the vocals, "Waitin' For The Bus-Jesus Just Left Chicago" is the next obvious choice. Hey hey!
Billy Gibbons was Jimi Hendrix favorite guitar player.
Tush = A piece of A55. Do "Gun Love", "Viva Las Vegas", and "Gotsta Get Paid".
The late Dusty is singing here
