It makes sense that Taki wrote 'I love you' instead of his name since love is a strong feeling and they remembered that feeling, that is the reason why they kept looking for each other subconsciously.
I guess the parts of our brain in charge of recording memories aren't properly functioning yet when we're just waking up. I've had dreams with something I really want to remember (plot, setting, invention or something like that) that sort of happen like episodes of a TV show, like there's continuity in the dreams. I went and immediately grabbed paper after I woke and drew most of what I remember still. But very soon afterwards like 3-5mins I will forget all the details I haven't yet drawn out yet. So that seen felt quite relatable to me. And when I dream of that dream again in the future, I would remember I've dreamed this dream before.
An Spanish RUclips made an analysis of the music, it carries so much meaning, not only the lyrics but even the melody of the 4 main songs... Jaime Altozano is his name, just in case you're interested.
The "I love you" message was actually the key. Taki knew first hand how the space and time continuum will try to normalize itself and his name will get erased like her diary entries in his phone. The message he wrote is not enough of a tangible information that's going to break the "rule" so it's allowed to stay. Feeling transcend space and time.
Right and also I read somewhere that in Japanese folklore the moon god protects messages of love so that's why it couldn't have been deleted or forgotten. 😊
Nah, he didn't knew. He only writes it because he loves mitsuha, that's it. Remember when mitsuha disappeared at he tries to remember her by repeating mitsuha's name all over again and tries to write it. That's the proof that he doesn't know that. It's funny how you guys assumed that he knows it 😂.
@@SkippyHawkI mean if you think about it he literally saw all her messages and notes getting erased in front of his eye so he might have thought to write something which not only don't get erased but also tells his true emotions towards her
He wrote " I love you" because musubi( that braided cord) would delete every possible things which would connect them with eachother. Just like the messages that got deleted. Although the mind will forget but the heart will always remember those moments.
Fun Fact as well, the Japanese Moon Goddess Tsukiyomi is believed to protect all message of love. So "musubi" could have erased his name if he wrote it, the I love you was protected.
I have thought about it recently and I think it was either luck or big brain from Taki's part. When she fell and opened her hand, she was looking for his name. But because he wrote I love you instead, she found new motivation to get up and keep running and ensure everyones life was saved so she could figure out his name. I almost think she would've just laid there if he wrote his name instead and died with her biggest question answered.
Fun Fact: Ms. Okudera and Tsukasa (Taki's friend with glasses) got married. You can see a ring on both of their fingers during the time skip, and the Director came out and said they got married. They must have bonded on the train trip with Taki.
Radwimps also dubbed all the songs in this movie to English. So if you listen to English and Japanese versions side by side you can tell that this is the same person singing in both.
Actually in the Japanese culture, cutting your hair as a girl means you broke up with someone, seeing Taki not remembering her, she thought of it as a break up
Well it can mean that but it generally means that the person who has cut their hair found or are looking for resolve. It looks for closure and hopeful growth as they leave a piece of themselves behind, Mitsuha at the moment came to decide that she should move on, so she cuts her hair to symbolize that. This also fits when she gave away her string to Taki, something she uses to hold her hair up and has a lot of importance. Of course, it can mean a breakup has happened but that’s not the only case in cultures/ themes that involve cutting hair :)
I watched it fairly recently and by recently i mean months ago, and i didn't know anything i just watched it cause it'd pop up every single yt video so i sadi "aight let's see why this is so known" And then after the reveal i was fr screaming like GO! something I only noticed after watching this a million times is that Mituha writes her name starting with a vertical line, but when she goes to write on Taki's hand, she starts with a horizontal one... She was going to write "I love you" too 😭😭😭
there is a posibility that mitsuha will write i love u, but for mitsuha to wrote her name starts with vertical line its just not possible... either if she write in hiragana みつは or kanji 三葉, both will start with horizontal line. but the posibility for the i love u すきだ exist because it also starts with horizontal line... its genius because it leaves to audience to prefer which. personally i want mitsuha to write just her name for reason that i see fit to me... but because it ambiguous, u can prefer i love u...
@@sentival i think its a bit deeper than that. I remind u that Mitsuha was already dead by the meteor on the original Taki's timeline. @@sentival Most likely would’ve used hiragana, since it’s possible for jinmeiyou to be misread, seeing as “Mitsuha” can also be read as “Mitsuba”, another common name. 20:25+ That "a girl", "a gal", " a guy" translation is an example of how hard it can be to convey language differences when you sub or dub a movie. It's hilarious in Japanese because the difference IS there, but it's weird in English where the words (and their places in a sentence) are not so well defined. ( "I" )
yeah the people behind the dubs changed the actual words but managed to roughly keep the meaning how mitsuha refers to herself as a girl instead of a guy. But in the japanese version she was just using the wrong pronouns to refer to her/himself. one website i used to watch the movie had “I (feminine)” “I (masculine)” and so on as the subtitles and that scene made more sense that way
@@isaiaha8395 Then she goes to boku which is the general masculine term for I, but ore is generally what is used by men in very familiar settings and is considered a very informal way to refer to yourself so either implies the person you are speaking with is very close with you and since she has no clue how close she is to them that's the one she uses last though it's the one they are used to Taki using with them.

this movie is so good, and it actually makes MORE sense when you watch it a second time, with everything in mind. it's foreshadowing and the way it sets things up with their switches is super confusing first watch, but it makes so much more sense every time you watch after. so glad you watched this!!
It is so well done.. everything looked like it was going to work, and was now falling apart. None of their plans worked, and she was running alone and didn't know what to do. And then.. someone told her that they loved her, right when she needed it. And it gave her the strength she needed to confront her father. That face, when she walks into his office, omg that face... There is no father that could stand up to a daughter with that face.
For those of you wondering: the memory of them being the other person fades away after they switch back - the same way our dreams fade away when we wake up. That's why they initially thought they were just dreaming after switching back. And that's also why times after times they only remembered limited information, for example Taki remembered what the town looks like but not the town's name; Mitsuha remembered the area Taki was in but not his address etc.
This may explain why when Mitsuha went to Tokyo to find Taki and introduced herself to him, he doesn’t recognize her at all since he only started to switch places with her 3 years into the future. She assumed that he also knows her since I think in her mind they switch places at her timeline when it’s not the case at all. Add to what you said that they can only remember fragments of what they saw after they switch back to their own bodies, so she may not remember that every time she switch place that she was in the future. Same thing with Taki. He thought he was switching places with her during his timeline. So, when he thought that he could see her face to face, he had no idea that she, along with the town, died 3 years ago. This movie is a masterpiece. ☄️💫
I think the thing that hurts me the most about this movie is the not knowing. Not US not knowing, but THEM not knowing. We watched these characters go through an incredible adventure together. They switch bodies, learn more about each other than most people could ever hope to learn about their significant other, and fall in love. The boundaries of time keep them separated, and they learn that Mitsuha is actually dead. Taki does everything he can to prevent her death, meets her for the first time face-to-face in a place outside of time, and even sacrifices their memories of each other in order to alter fate. Because he wrote “I love you” on her hand instead of his name, the moon god protected their hearts and retained the feelings of love they had for each other, even if they didn’t know who that person was anymore. Eventually, after several years of searching without knowing what they’re searching for, the pair are reunited. We know it’s a happy ending. They reunite and the love never faded. But as the viewer, it destroys me to see this incredible adventure between these two, the things they did for one another, the feelings they have for one another, and especially the emotions they both had (especially Mitsuha) when they finally met during twilight, only for that all to be forgotten. It’s devastating to see all of those memories of the young love they shared fade. But I’m happy that they do find each other again and they realize, when they do see each other face-to-face again, that they realize that, even though they don’t know who or why, they’ve finally found the piece of them that’s been missing the whole time
This is one of the movies I own in almost all formats it was distributed. Always makes me cry, and every time I watch it, it feels like the first time I watched it. Someone might have said it, but it's not Ghibli, but it certainly feel like it. It just pulls your heart all over the place, it brings up a range of emotions that you have either never felt before or at least never felt all at the same time. Loved your reaction to it!
Glad you reacted to this! Regarding her hair... in the Japanese culture, girls tend to cut their hair whenever they go through a breakup or want to sort of move on! So when Taki did not remember her, she thought of it as the end of their relationship and that's why she cut her hair.
This movie will always have a very special place in my heart. Not only because it is basically perfect (from the imagery, over the music to the emotional beats of the plot) but because it was the movie that thaught me how to cry. Because when Taki finally turned at the end I was crying worse than Mitsuha, and as the end credits rolled and I continued crying I suddenly realized that this had been just what I needed and that it actually felt good to just really let go and cry from my heart instead of (consciously or not) trying to suppress the urge. I've cried in many more movies since and it has enriched my experience of all of them.
I think a lot of the things that confused you while watching this got actually lost in translation or was just easier to clarify in Japanese. The parts where the grandma gets philosophical were also much better in Japanese in my opinion. Also some things were just meant to be vague I think. Like, they said in the beginning of the movie that they lost almost all memory of these dreams in which they switched bodies with a different person. That's also the reason why he can't remember the name of the village she lives in but only these images that he is trying to hold on to by drawing them. Anyways, I loved seeing your reaction and I am looking forward to seeing the other movies you have planned for the next couple of days with you. :)
You know makoto shinkai's works are all masterpieces in their field . Romance . A beautiful love . Using that love to drive and develope each side and mature them . The respect he has for lores and cultures of his country is insane . The dialogs are all thoughtout . That " I can't remember you with this " is the best part for me . Just breaks me everytime . Really looking forward to his next work in the following year 👍💯🔥
It's amazing how this movie connect the same fellings in all of us. A total masterpiece. Don't matter how many times I see this movie, my heart will touched the same way
You suddenly find yourself rooting for the love of the two people in the movie, and you realize that you have feelings other than ego inside you. This movie teaches us that memory is almost everything in human beings. It makes you want to cherish your loved ones more.
I love Radwimps. It's so impressive that they can do both english and japanese. I don't know how the japanese version sounds to a native speaker but the English is sooo good!
For a while, I wasn't quite sure if I liked it more than stuff like Lord of the Rings and Braveheart, but then when I think about the fact that I've literally watched Your Name over and over again, more times than I can count, and even watch people reacting to watching it...yeah, it has to be my #1.
I love this movie. After I watched it for the first time I couldn't think about anything else for days....it's beautiful and every kind of emotion you can think of in so many ways.
This has been my comfort movie ever since i saw it in 2018❤ ive probably seen it way over 50 times. I watch it as an inspiration boost, set it on if i cant sleep, i set it on if i feel down or sad, if im bored and so on. The music, the art, the story. Its just such a masterpiece. I like it personally best in Japanese tho
Oct 2021: Taki was looking for a job, he met Okudera, remembering the meteor 8 years earlier and that they went to Itomori 5 years earlier. Dec 2021: Taki and Mitsuha walked past each other on that bridge. Apr 2022: Taki and Mitsuha met on that stairs. If travel to Japan is possible in Apr 2022, we would expect loads of tourists (both local and international) on that stairs around this time.
He wrote I love you because even if he writes his name that's not gonna help him he don't want her to know his name he want her to know that there is someone in this world who loves you Even if the brain forgets Heart always remembers
Also one of my favorite movies of all time! I’d like to recommend that you watch this again someday in sub. The Japanese version contains some nuances which the dub version does not, including the songs.
Well, that's what kinda happens when you are talking, commenting and doing stuff while watching a movie, you tend to miss some important details that are quite important for the plot of the movie. I am very sure they will enjoy it a lot more after watching it a second time. I enjoyed it better the second time, except the "I love you" part, which always hit me, but nothing like the first time. Oh! And this is not a Studio Ghibli movie.
At the end, running through puddles in Tokyo back streets and alleys on a sunny spring day after the rain. No idea why, just their heart forcing their feet to move like magic. The music is phenomenal. The art is so beautiful I don't even understand, other than I want to live there, on that particular morning, and just walk around, I swear I can smell it through the screen.
in the book/novel it was explained that Taki figured out that writing down a name would just simply vanish just like how the notes in their phone did. so he was able to come up with an idea that even if they forgot each other's name, even if all the evidence of their existence were to be erased, their feelings for each other won't. that's why he wrote "i love you" instead of his name. there are a lot more in the book/novel that they weren't able to add to the movie due to the budget. Makoto Shinkai (the writter and director of the film) even said that the movie is cut short and that it's "incomplete and unbalanced".
best anime movie for me 10/10... theres a week that i watched 1 anime movie every night.... this is the first movie i watched and after 7 movies... this is my favorite
Bro the music throughout that whole evacuation scene is fucking phenomenal. The way it just kept going and going and it makes you not look away from the screen and makes you slightly lean forward (atleast that's how experienced it), like bro.
I have already seen a few of Makoto Shinkai’s work before, but THIS movie proves he can do so much more than impressive visuals and thematic elements alone. He really set up the story on an emotional level. The moral: Trust your heart by running down the uncertain path and see that you’ll feel this sense of yearning you never knew you had.
I'm dying laughing because I decided to "review it" with them thinking it would be easy-easy... AND I'M NOW CRYING WITH THIS ENDING AGAIN LMAO 😭🤣😭🤣 I feel like I've stepped into a trap that I set myself. 🤡
I used to watch your videos from time to time. When Mitsuha opened her hand and saw the words "I love you", she had the same reaction as you guys. Japanese is difficult, and I think there are many things that cannot be translated into other languages. However, the words are warm, and I think that if you know the culture that is difficult to understand, you will surely feel loved. Please, I hope the warmth spreads to everyone who sees this film. @@SuzyLuOfficialHello since you have replied in this comment i am gonna tell you something the creator of "your name" have confirmed that taki and mitsuha are married since in his other anime movie weathering with you we get to see both of them one year prior to before they reunited on the stairs making a small cameo and also in the novel of weathering with you it was shown in the same apartment of taki where his grandma was talking to male lead character and then it was shown a portrait of taki and mitsuha being married
Them crossing the bridge but not acknowledging each other is a play on a trope from the director's previous movie 3cm per Second. In that story, the lead characters (who were in love when they were younger), simply cross paths on a bridge, never look back and go on with their lives. A lot of fans were scared he was going to pull the same thing in this movie where the main characters also didn't get together in the end.

ただし殆どの人は思い出せないというだけで
普遍的な愛の物語として観るととても幸せな気持ちになります。
This is one of the movies I own in almost all formats it was distributed. Always makes me cry, and every time I watch it, it feels like the first time I watched it. Someone might have said it, but it's not Ghibli, but it certainly feel like it. It just pulls your heart all over the place, it brings up a range of emotions that you have either never felt before or at least never felt all at the same time.
Loved your reaction to it!
As a Japanese I am so happy these 2 understood the movie really well their take was perfect and the reaction was perfect
I watched this movie 4 times in the last 7 years, That's how much I love it. I'm glad I'm not the only one who feels it so much
Glad you reacted to this!
一緒に泣いてしまう。
何回も観てる映画なのに!
お二人がいろんな日本の作品観てくれてて嬉しい😊
That staircase scene in the end is as epic as Light Yagami eating a potato chip..😀😂
Everything is according to keikaku
@@Dhruv_Toppo777 I'm not fluent in japanese, care to translate?
@@cptKamina keikaku means Plan
I had watched death note

日本の誇りだよこの映画
I enjoyed crying AGAIN with the two of you! It's one of my favorite films - ever - and I show it to my film studies students each year.
In Japanese is even better I assure you
I literally cried when they both finally end up with each other❤️❤️🥺
YES!! You guys FINALLY reacted to what i think is THE GREATEST MOVIE OF ALL TIME!!😄🎊
For a while, I wasn't quite sure if I liked it more than stuff like Lord of the Rings and Braveheart, but then when I think about the fact that I've literally watched Your Name over and over again, more times than I can count, and even watch people reacting to watching it...yeah, it has to be my #1.
1:09:45 the reaction you've been waiting for
Thank youuuuu
Ima cry I’m so happy u guys reacted to this this is exactly what I wanted
Always... Alwaaaays I can't with this anime...I always crrrryyyyy😢😢😢😢
There's so much catharsis watching you feel the same emotions I felt. Glad you enjoyed.
Когда я первый раз посмотрел данное аниме - я плакал от такого сильного сюжета…моя оценка 10/10😭 Это идеально ….
Даа, после финальный сцены я просто лежал и смотрел в потолок...
whATTT??? ???
@@ProLegendTNTgamer that's russian above. use google translate like i did. 👍
This movie !!!!! Made me cry a lot too. Everything is stunning, and the soundtrack is breathtaking. I love this one !
36:05 sth in Japan (and I guess it’s universal) when the girl is sad for losing a crush she cuts her hair
If travel to Japan is possible in Apr 2022, we would expect loads of tourists (both local and international) on that stairs around this time.
i wanna go to japan now-
It’ll also be underwater because of weathering with you
He wrote I love you because even if he writes his name that's not gonna help him he don't want her to know his name he want her to know that there is someone in this world who loves you
Even if the brain forgets
Heart always remembers
THIS MOVIE MAN..........I WILL NEVER FORGET IT
I've been waiting for this reaction for 3 years and it was perfect!!!!
Also one of my favorite movies of all time! I’d like to recommend that you watch this again someday in sub. The Japanese version contains some nuances which the dub version does not, including the songs.
I loved "Your Name", it was thought and emotion provoking, and it's one of the few anime that I still listen to the soundtrack.
This movie is so good, 13th time watching it and I still love it.
Movie: establishes how hazy their memories are after the switches.
These two: PLOT HOLE WHY DOESN'T HE REMEMBER THE TOWN NAME.
Truly a masterpiece.
i still cried on that "I love you " scene
It might just be the best movie ever
I love this goddamn rollercoaster of emotions
"Good Lord, this film!" 😂 Yeah, you were destroyed just like the rest of us 😌. Love your reactions, guys!
Yall walked into this pretty confident lmfao walked out a sobbing mess. I too was humbled by this wonderful movie
I wish I could watch this movie all over again where its like a first time to feel again the magic.
in the book/novel it was explained that Taki figured out that writing down a name would just simply vanish just like how the notes in their phone did. so he was able to come up with an idea that even if they forgot each other's name, even if all the evidence of their existence were to be erased, their feelings for each other won't. that's why he wrote "i love you" instead of his name. there are a lot more in the book/novel that they weren't able to add to the movie due to the budget.
The animations in this movie omg😍
Bro the music throughout that whole evacuation scene is fucking phenomenal. The way it just kept going and going and it makes you not look away from the screen and makes you slightly lean forward (atleast that's how experienced it), like bro.
there's a consequence if you change the past ,all their memories was being erase but the only remain was the feeling to each other
This is my 3rd time watching your reaction with this movie. I love u guys.
I think this movie the most romantic movie I ever see. Always when I see the final arc I cry
the "i love you" scence hits me hard.
I cried again with you guys 🥺😭😭😭
Got all teary again for god knows how many times now...
I already watched and cried when I first watched it but ended up crying again watching the reaction lol
This one and Howl's Castle are my favorite anime. ever seen anything more beautiful in my life
The banter at the start of this vid was funny af 🤣
Also, this is prolly one of the best movies ever 😍
Thank-you for your reaction 😊 I love this movie too✨✨
I'm dying laughing because I decided to "review it" with them thinking it would be easy-easy... AND I'M NOW CRYING WITH THIS ENDING AGAIN LMAO 😭🤣😭🤣
I feel like I've stepped into a trap that I set myself.
I'm not good at English, so my English may have been strange, but thank you for reading. I will come to see you from time to time.
Hello. Can I ask? Why did you stop watching my videos?
@@SuzyLuOfficial I still watch your videos from time to time! I can sympathize with your reaction very much, and I think it's cute.🥰 I'm translating and replying, so I'm sorry if it doesn't answer. 🥲
"I love you" that scene nearly killed me!
Agreed, one of the best movie ever!! Glad you reacted to it!! 😊
The way Suzy said KO-NI-CHI-WA! at the end just cracks me up.
1.) Mitsuha + Taki 🤍🤍🤍
2.) Veronica + Logan 🤍🤍
3.) Alicia + Will 🤍
I watched 'Weathering with you' & was pleasantly surprised to see Taki & Mitsuha's cameo in that movie.
This is literally my favorite movie of all time... I never really got emotional from any anime before i saw this, it gave me a new perspective.
Girl's reaction before the "i Love you" message 😂 " just open ur hand" 🎵🎶
This movie is the reason I started watching anime and this is still my favourite anime ever

(me 2 hours prior) "id never cry watching anime, that's for wussies lol"
(Author) "... O yeah? Hold my beer"
(me 2 hours later) IM *NOT* CRYING!!!! YOU GUYS ARE! "
This is my favourite anime film ever. And it is considered a truly beautiful masterpiece of a film as you both can understand why!!!! Also The theme song in Japanese at the end is famous. Both of you make a lovely couple 😊😇🥰😍❤👏🙌🙏👌👍almost forgot to say merry Christmas and a happy new year 🎄☃️🥳🎉
nice reaction! i cried soooooooooooOO much when i first saw it, like, no joke.
im literally crying watching reactions again😭❤️
This movie is so great, amazing work from Makoto Shinkai. You should also check his other work, "Weathering with you".
Thanks for sharing!

They Best movie anime ever!
my wife and I put this movie in the "nope" box. We've watched it exactly ONCE as a couple. We don't ever mess with it. Its too hard.
The Japanese audio is a different emotion.
they cant read fast enough for subbed
この映画は見たことあるけど、この動画で一緒にまた泣いたよ😭
This movie was inspired by the 2011 earthquake, thats why it was so successful in japan, it resonated with people who wished that somehow the victimes of the disaster could have been warned
