From a new turner, a beautiful piece of pine, and I appreciate the responses to the comments and questions. I learned a lot about handling green wood through them. Thank you.
Thank you for watching.. I’m glad you can take something from it. Feel free to fire any questions you have my way. Nice to have you along for the journey 😊👍🏻
All glory to that little hunk of log. Hey it’s disappearing. Somethings about to become round. Oh joy how round it is. Who is up for log ball? So much flakes and wood shavings everywhere. How it quickly makes square logs nice and round, nice and round, nice and round. It’s beginning to look like a cup. All this is wow. I’m blown away here. I can’t imagine how exciting it is when this art amounts to a lot of mind blowing wood turning. It had all looked like cups or decorative before but it had some use as a stand for a gnome. Gnome Alone featuring this festive log. A hollow is inserted so it’s not a stand, it’s a pot for flowers and a man could use it for other purposes like some object it was to become. More and more chiseling had made this hollow shape nice and pristine, then sanding is done on the body to ensure it’s smoothness. Wow. Then all the other parts are cloaked in preservation grease as there’s more woodturning with a cloth. Ahh the nice smooth glow of varnish on wood, the another piece is inserted into the wood for more woodturning, then more sanding. The top bump is shaved off, then soaked in the same grease. Oh joy it is an object of cup like beauty. You should make more videos of this. Woodturning. Music to my ears.
@@JackMackWoodturning I'll rather hear the machine mixed with the wood scraping sound, is much more immersive. As a person who also enjoy working with my hands, is more satisfying. Question: Why not using the sandpaper with a sponge, won't sit better to the surfaces? By the way: Subscribed.
I feel the question still stands unfortunately doug.. I mean, yes it definitely can, of course, but wether I can do it or not still remains to be seen 🤣 lots of tear out and I instantly regretted the wax.. I wish I’d left it naked. I guess there’s always next time 😊 As ever, thanks for watching 👍🏻
I like how you turned it on its side. I haven’t done much with a lathe (something for the future perhaps), but realize how it would’ve been easier to spin it opposite
Sometimes the way you mount things on the lathe I think “Oh No. That’s gonna hurt.” Or “That’s not gonna turn out right.” But it ends up being beautiful every time. Then again I’ve been mounted in some ways that I didn’t think were a good idea but I always ended up enjoying myself. 🤷🏼♀️
It’s definitely very difficult to get a nice finish off the gouge due to its tendency to tear out… but I’d rather see this as a challenge rather than a reason not to try. Thanks for watching mate 😊👍🏻
Thank you.. I replied to your other comment.. you stated the piece WILL crack is it dries.. this is not the case. Green turned bowls don’t crack or split if it is turned correctly.. 😊👍🏻

It’s cool how the shape of it makes it look like it’s glitched out when it’s spinning
Shutter Speed vs Lathe RPM. Lots of happy accidents. Thanks for watching Sam! 😁👍🏻
thats similar to the helicopter that doesnt have to use it’s propellers lol

The music of work is here. The lathe, and chisels, and other tools create a workshop symphony :)
Nádhera, závidím, když to někdo umí zpracovat. Dřevo je nejkrásnější materiál 🤗
I would say pine can be absolutely beautiful in the right hands! Those hands just happen to be yours. The grain is gorgeous!

Those lovely bits of synchronicity between the camera's frame rate and the RPMs of the lathe.
