Manzanita grows wild all over Northern California, it's one of the hardest bushes / trees to pull out of the ground that anyone has ever seen. My father used a 200 ton excavator and almost pulled the excavator over while trying to remove a root from one.

I firmly believe that you are half correct. David did a great job with this piece, better than anything that I could hope to do, but I don't believe that there is only ONE "right person" for that root burl. I think that any talented artisan/craftsman who owned that root burl would be the "right person" and would bring out their own unique vision of beauty from it. Let's say the multiverse is real and infinite. If that root was handed to a different artisan/craftsman in each universe, or even if it was handed to the David of each universe, a different yet beautiful piece will be produced in each case. That's one of the great things about creativity... it has NO LIMITS. If David was handed an identical root burl I doubt that he would want to create a second urn/vase that mirrored what he had already created. Where would the fun be in that? Anyway, I don't know much, but I know that have never wanted to duplicate something that I have already created.
      Great job David.

Oh how the endless ribbons of resin mesmerized me in this video! The end product was stunning. I loved the glossy finish and the mix of resin colors with the wood grain. Excellent!

Once upon a time, I'd have thought the wood piece needed to be all wood (no resin). But I've seen plenty of turnings that come out pure gorgeous. Like this one.

This is really amazing. I was so iffy about the color choice but the way they blended is wow. You can see the little bits of grey coming through the darker colors and it all complements the wood perfectly.

The contrast of orangey wood against the black resin, just wow! Initially, I thought the mix of black, brown, and pearly grey was tacky taste, but now I see that the black has depth and nuances and a solid black would have been very wrong, esp on that orange wood.
Your craftsmanship of wood and lathe is only surpassed by your photography and music.
This was almost a spiritual exercise. Thank you!

I needed this tonight. In a crazy way It's a beautiful way to end a night when I have been mourning my sister who was killed last year. To see that root go from It's natural state, ripped out of the ground, then cut, turned, poured over, cut some more, shaped, and polished feels a lot like my heart right now. The process so painful, but so carefully watched by the Creator. He knows what the end result will be from the very beginning; something more beautiful and lasting than what you started with. Thank you for this. I can sleep now. 🤍
