I bought this monitor one year ago and it was plagued with problems. Now you can enable any overdrive while freesync is enabled. I really like the image quality, the panel is a BIT slow but it's okay. I am using your calibrated profile but did you calibrate at 100% brightness or at what value exactly?
The calibration was done with the brightness set to 23, which corresponds with 140 cd/m^2. That's a good brightness for daylight without direct sunlight. Idk if there's a new firmware, but I can't use overdrive with freesync/gsync.

I do game occasionally, mostly casual multiplayer and single player games, little bit of video editing...so a somewhat srgb color accurate panle with high refresh rate is what I seek in budget. this monitor seems to check all the boxes. wish it has some usb c ports though. then it would have been perfect for most users out there who have the needs same as me.

Hi, with this monitor can I play 1080p and still have the 144hz refresh rate? I have a 5600xt so I'd want the 1440p mainly for productivity. Thankyou :)
Yes, but I'd recommend setting the render resolution to 75% in your games instead. Or choosing 1080p in-game - whatever of these two options is available. This will essentially have the same effect as setting a lower resolution globally, but is more convenient.
@Peter S Are you on drugs? PS5 and Xbox Series X are supposed to support 4K. So 1440p makes sense for someone who can't yet affort a 4K monitor with a higher than 60hz refresh rate
Hello im in the market to get a new monitor , but im stuck between purchasing a 2k monitor or remaining on 1080p . ( i have a Geoforce Gtx 1080 ) Of course i would like abit mote detail , but with new next gen games launching , i really would not like to spend an arm and on a-leg for anew grafix card :-/ What do you recommend ? will a 2 k pannel drop my frames that much ? Will the 2k monitor” look “ that much beeter than a 1080p monitor?
As a rough estimate you can subtract a third of your current FPS. This gives a good idea which frame rates you can expect when upgrading to 1440p from 1080p in a GPU-bound scenario.
Thanks! The tilt adjustment is a bit wonky. Otherwise the stand is well built, at least it feels quite solid and the finish looks nice. Maybe some people call it poor quality due to the lack of height adjustment?
Really liked the review! Do you know which type of panel was used in your display out of innolux or auo? Also when was the monitor manufactured as some of the older models had flickering and other issues?
@@techlessYT well either way the monitor should be pretty good regardless of the panel, I just hope I don't have to go through the process of getting it repaired or getting a replacement.
@@techlessYT Looks like I have an AUO one as well. Your calibrated profile and settings seem great although I can't test it against anything. Thanks for your review as well as the follow-up on ghosting & motion blur.

Hi @techless I getting a XBOX Series S and was wondering if this monitor will support 1440p at 120hz/fps which is the max graphics output of the Series S. Many thanks!
It can do 120 Hz/FPS 1440p, but honestly, I would wait just a little longer until we know a bit more about the monitor compatibility of those new consoles.
If ps5 does get native 1440p gaming should I get this or just get a 4k 60hz monitor? I play game such a fifa 21, rainbow six siege and call of duty. But I will get the new spider man game also.
I m thinking to buy this monitor as a photographer Is it considered a good buy or the 75Hz ones are much better in colours? I m afraid that in a few years a 75hz will be outdated. Sorry if i resurrect an old video but the monitor is still in the market and there are still few options QHD 100Hz+ on that price tag. Thanks
272 has hdr and 270 doesnt. Not sure if another has different connections. Also iirc they use different panels. One uses innolux and another Au optronics panel.
Thanks! I'd probably reduce the render resolution in-game to 75%, which is more or less equivalent to gaming in 1080p, instead of running non-native resolution. Or I'd reduce other graphic settings depending on the game. I mean it's certainly possible and will not look too bad, but you could also just save some money and get a good 1080p monitor instead, if you're only interested in gaming.
@@techlessYT Thanks for the reply, i actually thought of this right after i posted the comment, thing is also want to do some video editing and music production with it. What i was think about was: Do games look really(!) good in 1440p? Years ago when the first 1440p monitors came around, some games looked kinda awkward, tehy werent made for 1440p. A bit similar to HD remasters where stuff gets suddenly blown up to 1080p.But i guess 1440 looks good on any game today,... i guess..
With this use case the VG270UP makes kind of sense even if you don't like to spend big on the graphics card. Games look great in 1440p these days. For true 1440p high refresh rate gaming you will of course need some GPU horsepower.
@@techlessYT Well i agree, and i was thinking about getting the 2070 super in the future, or comparable card, but lets say in 2022. Right now i am sure all my current games run on 1440 with a decent refresh at medium or high settings (probably all except the witcher 3 :D) But i am getting a ryzen 5 3600 so cpu power should be there... and i have seen some 1660 Super 1440p benchmarks, its actualylly pretty impressive for that price point. Also if i can get to "just" 60 with the newer games (i look at you cyperpunk) and maybe medium settings tahts perfectly fine with me. Again good point on the resolution scaler and i though about negative DSR factors maybe, which doesnt change screen resolution if the game doestn have a scaler slider.
I received my today and played cyberpunk 2077.The upgrade from my Samsung 24 inch Full HD 60hz is huge. I have a 2070 XC Ultra, do you think gaming in 1440p with this monitor will get me over 60fps stable ? ATM i have a 4k 60hz monitor and i game in 1080p .....
Hi, Is there anyway to get rid of the borders to make the monitor truly edgeless, or is that just the way it is? It seems a bit pointless having an ultra-thin bezel and then still having borders around the edges.
Can anyone answer my question. I've read a lot of reviews about this monitor and A LOT of people have said this monitor has a ton of flickering issues and bleeding. However, most of those reviews were posted last year, so I'm not sure if any of the 2020 panels fixed this issue. If you've bought this monitor, let me know how its been and what issues you may have with it (also tell me when you bought it). Thanks!
@@techlessYT Alright did some research, only difference is that VG271UP is 10 bit (can display 1 bill colors) while VG270UP is 8 bit (can display 16.7 mill), but most of the consumer GPUs can only display 8 bit anyways so it's useless for non professionals
Looking for a Monitor for Next Gen Consoles (Xbox Series X) Will this monitor be good for this console? I'll be playing games like Assassin's Creed Valhalla or Cyberpunk.
I recently bought this monitor and just got it setup. I noticed something weird, that one of my older monitors is doing too. When watching a video and I change the tab for a second or am scrolling down to the comments and then up again to the video, the video will have for a second a more "desaturated" look, like its log footage. Then it gets adjusted with the colors being more vibrant and the contrast bumped up a bit. Does someone know what I mean and even has a solution to it? The ASUS VG248QE i replaced with this acer isnt doing this, only my very old samsung monitor 2333SW and the ACER. *EDIT I literally found the cause of the problem 5 minutes later. Will leave this comment though for anyone that has the same "problem" The cause was simply the videocolor settings in the nvidia control panel for the ASUS monitor was set to "nvidia settings" instead of "videoplayer settings"
Hi tech less, does this monitor have any of the flickering issues that I keep reading about. I haven’t seen any flickering issues reported in 2020 so I’m wondering if it has been fixed
A few people in the comment section made me aware of this issue, though my unit is from late 2018 and doesn't have any flickering issues. I've read about a mysterious firmware update that could be done by Acer, but I don't know if this actually exist and resolves the issue and if Acer ships new units with this firmware.

Well spotted :) It's the RME ADI-2 Pro and the Hifiman HE-560. I actually use this setup for gaming as well, probably a bit over the top... There's actually a lot more audio gear, but I think it can't be seen in the video. I really have a thing for IEMs (CA Andromeda, InEar PP8 and so on).

I ordered this, but now I'm having second thoughts. I'm currently using XL2411Z which is amazing. The response time is excellent and there's zero flickering. Is this an upgrade or downgrade?
I can only judge the XL2411Z from the spec sheet as I haven't tested it. The Acer will surely be big upgrade in terms of color and viewing angles, probably contrast as well. The Acer's pixel density is slightly higher, too. The BenQ has a TN panel, so it very likely has a faster response time than the Acer - if you are sensitive to ghosting the Acer probably won't fit your needs. Coincidentally, I'm currently working on a review of the Omen 27i, which delivers almost the same overall picture quality as the Acer but TN panel like response times. A little spoiler: It has the same panel as the LG 27GL850 and ViewSonic XG270QG. All three are a bit more expensive than the Acer, but might suit your needs better.
@@techlessYT I cancelled my order yesterday. The fact that I have to use VRB to get 1ms was the last straw. I'll be looking for a bit more expensive monitor.
I see. You're probably referring to the response time as advertised by Acer that I quoted towards the end of the video. There actually are many ways to define response times. This term usually refers to the pixel response time of a grey-to-grey pixel transition. This is not affected by VRB or other backlight strobing techniques. Acer however seem to have chosen a very different definition of response time. I was just quoting them, which I probably shouldn't have done without criticising their BS marketing :-)

hello can you explain please, why the official acer site says in the description say the VG270UP is 75hz and some other selling websites like newegg and amzon are saying that the VG270UP is 144hz ? thank you
Hi! You're probably looking at the VG270U *b* then.

The best review I have seen to date .. would you recommend this over Dell S3220DGF for gaming and watching movies ?!!
Thanks! I haven't tested the Dell, but it's quite a different monitor on paper. Given that it's a VA panel it will like be superior for watching movies and worse for gaming. But it's impossible to say that for sure without testing the monitor, so take it for what it's worth.
@@techlessYT
I know eventually you will review it ,and you wouldn't leave no stone upturned.I guess I'll go with the Dell because of its support for 120hz at 1440p thru HDMI which is great for my ps5/xbox .Add to that it's 32" @165hz . And I won't be using it only for gaming but how worse would it be in that regard ? ..Thanks a lot for everything, and keep up the good work ..
@@soulj7sli7 do you still have this monitor, if so do you recommend it for a series s?
Quick question I bought this monitor I tried every setting and the one I like the most is when HDR on the ps5 is off and I use HDR turned on the monitor I use this setting instead of user it looks so smooth and the colours are perfect would this setting be okay? I play call of duty multiplayer
Subbed. Great informative video. Currently searching for a qhd monitor for my coding purpose. 24 inch would have been a better choice for better ppi for sharper text, but a 27 inch will do.
Are you by any chance an engineering grad? You basically defined each and every one of my problems. Please do tell which monitor you eventually went with.
@@anweshdas6510 engineering grad ? Kind of similar & no I haven't bought any monitor yet (budget + searching for a 24" qhd 100% sRGB/p3 120hz matte panel with usb c hub inbuilt..got none)
Great Video. Thx a lot!
@@techlessYT Thank you!
I'm thinking of getting this along with a ps5
@Peter S he's talking about a ps5
@Peter S Are you on drugs? PS5 and Xbox Series X are supposed to support 4K. So 1440p makes sense for someone who can't yet affort a 4K monitor with a higher than 60hz refresh rate
Are the speakers decent? Not going to use them when gaming but are they okay for watching YT?
I occasionally use them for watching some quick RUclips tutorials and such. They're bad, but usable.
Overdrive isn't compatible with g sync?
hye, great review ....was just wondering how this monitor is different from the Acer VG271U
Was ist jetzt eigentlich der Unterschied zwischen dem VG271UP und dem 270UP, also welchger ist besser?
I know that the Ps5 does not support 1440p. But would it still be okay to buy as the monitor will cap it to 1080p 120?
Hello im in the market to get a new monitor , but im stuck between purchasing a 2k monitor or remaining on 1080p . ( i have a Geoforce Gtx 1080 )
Of course i would like abit mote detail , but with new next gen games launching , i really would not like to spend an arm and on a-leg for anew grafix card :-/
What do you recommend ? will a 2 k pannel drop my frames that much ? Will the 2k monitor” look “ that much beeter than a 1080p monitor?
As a rough estimate you can subtract a third of your current FPS. This gives a good idea which frame rates you can expect when upgrading to 1440p from 1080p in a GPU-bound scenario.
Hey, can you please review the Acer VG240YP too? Thanks.
Great review! This looks a fine monitor at a great price but I’ve heard the stand is of a very poor quality - is this a fair statement?
Thanks! The tilt adjustment is a bit wonky. Otherwise the stand is well built, at least it feels quite solid and the finish looks nice.
Maybe some people call it poor quality due to the lack of height adjustment?
@@techlessYT they say it gets unstable/move if u like move the desk etc put a cup of coffy on it is this trou ?
Really liked the review! Do you know which type of panel was used in your display out of innolux or auo? Also when was the monitor manufactured as some of the older models had flickering and other issues?
Thanks! My monitor was manufactured late 2018. It likely has the AUO panel. It doesn't have any flickering issues.

Great review, did you alter any of your colour settings in the Nvidia control panel to go with your monitor settings?
Thanks!
I didn't change any colour settings in the Nvidia control panel. The calibration and characterization were done via the monitor's menu and DisplayCAL.

@@techlessYT Hey really quick question, does this monitor have a button etc for switching the hdmi inputs?
@@hydreigon2709 No dedicated button for switching inputs. There's a menu shortcut for that though.
Is this monitor good for xbox series x?
Is there a way to enable HDR other than plugging in my TV? It works and look better in youtube .
If ps5 does get native 1440p gaming should I get this or just get a 4k 60hz monitor? I play game such a fifa 21, rainbow six siege and call of duty. But I will get the new spider man game also.
I personally prefer 1440p with a higher refresh rate over 4k 60 Hz.
@@techlessYT is there a massive difference between 4k - 2k? I’ll get 1440p 144hz only if it is compatible
I play Call of duty so want mode should I have it on? Also does this monitor have 1m response time?
I m thinking to buy this monitor as a photographer Is it considered a good buy or the 75Hz ones are much better in colours? I m afraid that in a few years a 75hz will be outdated. Sorry if i resurrect an old video but the monitor is still in the market and there are still few options QHD 100Hz+ on that price tag. Thanks
what did you buy ?
what is the differente you have this one Acer Nitro VG270UP and this sells hear in sweden Acer Nitro XV272UV same price points ?
think i know know its the hdr10 shange correct me if am wrong
272 has hdr and 270 doesnt. Not sure if another has different connections. Also iirc they use different panels. One uses innolux and another Au optronics panel.
Hey nice review! What do you say about gaming in 1080p on this monitor? Because iam probably not getting a 2070..or such, but rather a 1660Super.
When i play call of duty some things are slightly blurry like
Writing on walls etc please
Can
You help me??
When I shift tab the screen goes black for 2-3 sec. Why?
I received my today and played cyberpunk 2077.The upgrade from my Samsung 24 inch Full HD 60hz is huge. Even if the Samsung monitor is very nice with gaming mode which make everything sharper and crispy with the acer the lights the colours are so vibrant and nice. Is maybe very good monitor 👍Will play again tomorrow 😊
I have a 2070 XC Ultra, do you think gaming in 1440p with this monitor will get me over 60fps stable ? ATM i have a 4k 60hz monitor and i game in 1080p .....
You'll get about 60-70% of your FPS when going from 1080p to 1440p. So the answer is yes, if you're gaming at about 85-100 FPS or more in 1080p.
Hi,
Is there anyway to get rid of the borders to make the monitor truly edgeless, or is that just the way it is?
It seems a bit pointless having an ultra-thin bezel and then still having borders around the edges.
No there of course isnt 😂 its just so it looks better when turned off
Got this at thuesday.. very good - im not shure if i should enable Overdrive and vrb (normal) for gaming. What would you say?

Can anyone answer my question. I've read a lot of reviews about this monitor and A LOT of people have said this monitor has a ton of flickering issues and bleeding. However, most of those reviews were posted last year, so I'm not sure if any of the 2020 panels fixed this issue. If you've bought this monitor, let me know how its been and what issues you may have with it (also tell me when you bought it). Thanks!
Hi thanks for the review! There is an other more expensive version called VG271UP, do you know what the difference is?
Haven't had the chance to test the 271 yet, but rtings made a great review: www.rtings.com/monitor/reviews/acer/nitro-vg271
Did u buy it for xbox?
I recently bought this monitor and just got it setup. I noticed something weird, that one of my older monitors is doing too. When watching a video and I change the tab for a second or am scrolling down to the comments and then up again to the video, the video will have for a second a more "desaturated" look, like its log footage. Then it gets adjusted with the colors being more vibrant and the contrast bumped up a bit. Does someone know what I mean and even has a solution to it? The ASUS VG248QE i replaced with this acer isnt doing this, only my very old samsung monitor 2333SW and the ACER.
*EDIT
I literally found the cause of the problem 5 minutes later. Will leave this comment though for anyone that has the same "problem"
The cause was simply the videocolor settings in the nvidia control panel for the ASUS monitor was set to "nvidia settings" instead of "videoplayer settings"

VRB has no effect on the response time though...
@@techlessYT Didn't you say that with VRB enabled you can only achieve the 1ms response time and without it's like 5 or something?
Your blue gain setting seems slightly too warm coloured for mine. Almost like I have a blue light filter on lol
Does anyone know the best setting for the monitor
