Whenever I need to check out what monitor is worth in the price range of myself or anyone around me I check this channel. It's done incredibly well. Very informative and I really like that he actually tests a lot of different things others don't. I got the MSI OPTIX G241 because it had a very high contrast with decent ghosting for an IPS monitor that runs on 144hz which I can use with Nvidia G-Sync. My GTX 1080 pairs well with 1080p and a high refreshrate and I'm really happy with the screen quality.

Maybe try to get in touch with the MSI support for a definitive answer. Just a regular 'brand engineering' and 'OEM magic' - might well turn up the boards and the panels are the same, with slightly different firmware. Happens in all walks of life, technology in particular. For example, I remember back in the late 80s there was a lens I wanted, made by Tamron, who also made the same thing as OEM for Leica (with Leica's logo & mounting). The Tamron 'as Tamron' (with Canon FD mounting) was c.a. £250, whilst the Leica branded one - £420. I was so happy I needed the Canon flavour! 🙂

Another interesting budget monitor to compare this Msi Optix G273QF to would be the VIOTEK GFI27DBXA. The VIOTEK GFI27DBXA is 27 inches, resolution of 2560x1440, 180hz that you can unofficially overclock to 240hz, 101% DCI-P3 coverage, 141% sRGB coverage, a BGR subpixel layout, 600 nits HDR (without local dimming), and runs for a shocking price range of $370 U.S. to $330 U.S. when on sale. I know a monitor with this high of specs at the sub $400 U.S. price range sounds like garbage, however “Tom’s Hardware” gave it a 4.5 out of 5 stars.

The price difference is mainly due to the Predator having a 10 bit panel and not 8 bit like the Msi.
I suspect you tested a defective Acer panel as mine could reach 88% Dci-p3 gamma volume color by only changing gamma to 2.4 with peak brightness 429 nits.
Im sure user experience is different from panel to panel though.

If l chose between a low HDR $400-450 monitor (not $500) vs SDR $300, I would probably pay the extra, $400-450 monitor in HDR (even low quality HDR 400) looks definitely better.

I am fairly certain, that you just pay for the acer logo. AOC CQ27G2U and MSI G273QF are 2 of the best budget gaming monitors. They both offer 1440p resolution, Msi has a refresh rate of 165hz while Aoc has 144hz and both offer you 1ms response time. 6:00 it blows my mind that manufacturers can't get back light strobing (aka black frame insertion) right. It's their own circuitry that controls when one frame ends & the other begins, yet it seems none get it quite right.
6yrs ago, I bought an Asus monitor for $250 that could do 3D. A friggin' 3rd party app was made that effectively tricked it into doing BFI & it did it perfectly.
I recently bought Gigabyte's M32U for $750 & am very disappointed in its bfi. very strong red ghost image. When I dart my eyes from one spot to another, I notice a slight redness wherever there's white out of the corner of my eye. I'm on the fence if it's even worth turning on bfi.

*you did miss an important test*
You should test OVERDRIVE at different refresh values by locking a game's FPS. I'd test at 60FPS, 100FPS and 140FPS or similar. There's no point testing at a low FPS as the monitor either doesn't support variable refresh that low or it will more likely use LFC which will increase the monitor refresh to multiples of the FPS. For example "29FPS" would result in each frame being sent twice to force the monitor to run at 58Hz. So the monitor should never drop below it's Freesync/GSync range.

  • @ThunderKat

In all honest everything but the panel is what makes the price of the monitor so could be better to start measuring the weight of both monitors as a starting point.
The panel might be hard tech stuff but is just a thin plastic coding with some other materials on top, light weight and once you star mass production probably cost cents compare to all others parts including internal circuit boards inside.

now remember folks it doesnt matter if you have a 144hz or 240 hz if your pc barely come close to 60fps while gaming. I have a 60fps monitor and most of the times my 8gb of ram and ryzen 3 2200g with onboard gpu stay in the 30-40 fps, its rare to reach 60, so it would be a waste of money to buy a higher refresh rate monitor, first it would be better to spend on a better gpu and more ram, this way at least I can achieve 60fps, wich from my point of view is very very good (in my older PCs I used to finish games around 15-20 fps)

Four years ago I bought a 75hz Freesync LG 1080p monitor for 150 USD. It crapped out after 2 years, started showing dead lines-- whole permanent vertical lines across the screen instead of just dead pixels. Meanwhile, my brother's cheapo 90 USD 1080p 75hz SpectrePro is still flawless for 3 years and counting. Made me stay away from big brands lol.

Great research and presentation on a very interesting topic: value for money. Subscribed (and thank you RUclips algorithm).
In the video the MSI monitor has a horrible green colour cast that makes people look sick and the environment look dull. I wouldn't use it calibrated like that. I wouldn't use it at all if the colour cast can't be eliminated.

Twas ever thus. Product, design, quality materials, extra features, next gen. The Msi is all in the panel, the Acer has added features and design. It's up to you what you want or need. I just got an Omen, because it was cheap and The design works for my sitting room, whereas the MSI... doesn't. It also has some cool features I want to play with. As far as I can see the screens are nearly the same. I don't usually go for design, but my monitor takes a big file in my living room.
I meant on my two options, not the vid, where the Acer looks better imo

Just from looking at the videos side by side comparison, the colors look better on the Acer. The Acer has a stand. The Acer has a headphone holder which I've learned from experience comes extremely handy especially if you are a multiple headphone user or if you lack space on your desk setup. Acer has a stand, Not everyone want to go through the hassle of installing a VESA Mount. As well as the Acer gives you tilt, height adjust, pivot all our the box. I like the asthetic and the design of the Acer better. I think the Acer is the better monitor and would have no problems paying the extra price premium.

Guys I have a doubt, Iv'e read in a comment that the new BenQ MOBIUZ EX2510S is a downgrade from the 2510, because it has not a true 8 bit display, but rather a 6 bit + FRS and the colors are worse due to that, Is it true? Or the panel manufacturers are the same? Is it a downgrade (with worse color performance) or an upgrade (having the same performance as the old model but with the plus of more refresh rate)?
