That's not cheating! That is English-fold binding or single-fold binding! You're demonstrating a technique that is just out of favour at the moment! It is a lovely quilt!
Oh I love this quilt. Glad you are keeping it for yourself. And once again my volume is all the way up and it’s so difficult to hear you. Loads of love.
April please ask your audience if anyone else has difficulty in hearing you. If no one else is having a problem, then I will hush. I can sit and watch your video, then open another video and hear precisely what is being said no volume problems. If I didn’t like what you offer with quilting tips and tricks I would just keep quiet and move on. I truly want to hear you. Thank you so very much♥️
I don't have hearing issues but have you tried using the transcript to help follow along? I use it for unusual accents because I speak Australian English
I wish I knew what I was doing that is causing the issue. Are you wearing ear buds? What device are you using to watch? I am just trying to determine what device you are using so I can try and replicate the issue. Thank you for your patience. 😀 April
Thank you April. You are a genius. I hate wasting the fabric too. Why go through all that cutting of a perfectly good ten inch layer cake. Love your quilt. Merry Christmas.
Really nice quilt. I have cut the backing on a quilt 8 and a half inches wide then sewn the top to the backing face to face. Turned it right side out. And it gave me a finished edge and a 4 inch border at the same time. Try it if you want. Love seeing your furry helper. 😻
The size you chose is what I would have picked too. I’m off to get the pattern. The feline assistant is adorable. Merry Christmas April and the RUclips quilting community! ❤️😃🎄🇨🇦
I so relate with your not wanting to cut down the layer cake. Adding the extra solids was a great idea! Loved this project! Merry Christmas to you and your family!🎄
I'm making that same pattern except I'm using 2 packs of charm squares. Yours is very pretty. I can't free motion quilt, so I'll quilt mine on my embroidery machine.
Yeah for the Shape Cut, you are the first video tutorial where I’ve seen it used, other than the June Taylor ones. I’ve never understood why other quilters haven’t been using one cause it makes strip cutting much easier and faster. I’m always using mine cause I make a lot of strips for charity projects. Merry Christmas 🎄
Oooh April, this is my kind of quick gift quilt 😁 Really liked your fabric and backing choice. So cute! Hadn’t thought of using fleece on the back. Great idea since it doesn’t give you all the loose fuzz of minky ❤. Thanks for sharing. Merry Christmas 🎄
Thank you for such an educational video.I like your style. I'm a big-time Newby at quilting. (I've made some potholders) It was good to see your cat in the video. I'm concerned about mine being all over everything. I assumed you just have to say 'To H*** with it!'
I really don't understand why the pattern would call for you to cut a 10" square down to a 9"square...that kinda baffles me. The way you did it makes a lot more sense (to me, anyway). Very festive fabric! Thank you for sharing. 🌟☃️🎄🎅🏼🤶🎄☃️🌟
April, you "tumbled" through this quilt real good! It is pretty but what, if any, quilting did you do on it? Seriously it is a nice quilt & love the fleece backing.
I quilted it with an all over feather on my long arm. Check out the end - like almost the very end - of the video and I show some close up shots of the quilting. :-)
Very pretty 😍. I have wondered why some patterns cut a layer cake to 9 inches but after measuring some they aren't always 10 inches. I figure why use precuts if you're trimming each block.? I use the whole thing and adapt the pattern. I made 3 throws for Christmas and bound 2 if them the same as you but used a fancy stitch that looks like a bow and a bobble. Turned out super cute
Love the colors and pattern of this quilt. Why ever would you cut a 10” square down ro 9” if 10” works?! Did you put batting in the quilt, or just the fleece? Loved the binding using the fleece. Looks fabulous.
Love the Quilt and how you made it, especially the Poinsettia fleece backing and border. Loving your Tee shirts too, especially the first one with the Birds, so cute! Where do you get them?😊 BTW...The look on Maxine's face is priceless.😺
@April Story. I really appreciate that video. Could you use 1.5" strips instead of 2.5" strips? I'm fresh out of those and have lots of skinny strips. Deb McKasson from Paradise California
Good video! I have a question! Did you use batting between the layers or did you just add the fleece without the batting? (I am a quilting newbie.)Love how your quilt turned out!
Both! This is a hard question ... sometimes I do both .. if I am really wanting a thick warm quilt . but most of the time I do not... I usually do one or the other
What sewing table is your sewing machine in/on? I’m looking for something simple and smaller for one of my sewing machines… and “your” quilt looks awesome!
I have a Kangaroo Aussie II. I cannot tell you how much easier it is to sew when your machines sits down in the table. I also got my husband to cut a hole in an old table and modify it to hold my Janome Continental M7 and I love it! And thank you. :-) April

Hi no rules your quilt your rules. The only comment I would make is if u do that with flannel it means there is only one layer for the binding. It is the binding on a quilt that wears first. So for a kids quilt which would be washed a lot, I would do double regular cotton or flannel binding. All depends on the use of the quilt and how much u think it will be used and washed, hope this helps u decide. Merry Christmas
Your layout is not correct. The blocks should be 'tumbling' down diagonally. You have a few that are correct but then it is mixed up. The block is only turned 2 different ways and it is easy to get confused. I have found that when you make this quilt pattern you need to have a mantra.....I say to myself L and 7 (that is the way the accent strip looks to me) and go back and forth between those block settings. Love it…why cut perfectly good 10” squares. You are the quilting rebel!
Yes! Thank you!

I love your little helper! My kitties aren't allowed in my sewing room because they always want to eat stray threads.
I have that problem but I’ve learned to cover my machines when I’m away

What is your board made of? How do you get the fabric to stay on without falling off?
The board is a covered piece of insulation board that we covered in flannel and my husband mounted it on the studs of my unfinished basement

I do not like to cut a block down either and often adjust everything to accommodate the layer cake.
Yup. I agree
Did you quilt it with your new Grace machine?????????
no ... not yet ... I have to put it up ... that is happening this week

she starches which shrinks fabric..hence she cuts down the size
