Thoroughly enjoyed this late 50s sitcom with the legendary Ms Lupino. Ida isnt not much of a "Screwball" Comedian, so plays it 'straight" and get a few laughs. I liked the way the narrative wove in intertextual bits like naming Eve's / Ida's mother "Connie" and casting real-life protegee Mala Powers into the mix. Hilarious to see and hear the matter o' fact tone of Cigarette commercials on TV.
Thank you so much for these! I barely remember watching this as a kid in 1957. Ida Lupino should have been a much bigger star than she was. She was called "The poor man's Bette Davis," but she never got those juicy parts, maybe because Bette was already playing them. And in real life, Lupino's mother was named Connie (Emerald) and she had been an actress in England. Seeing IL here is such a pleasure. She and Howard Duff bring layers of sophistication to their parts that you didn't often see in a TV sitcom marriage back then. Kind of a TV Nick and Nora.
Oh, and there's an indirect reference to "What's My Line," hugely popular in 1957, when Eve asks a question that I think Dorothy Kilgallen usually asked, "Do both men and women use your service?"
No she wasn't! I first heard this from a childhood friend's dad (Bill Walling) who worked at the studios as a glamour photographer in the 1930's. Later, I read that Ida herself jokingly referred to herself as such. She is one of those actresses who I can endlessly imagine playing so many parts, wondering what she would have done with them.

as a kid at the time, you have to realize we saw cigarette ads endlessly, it didn't seem to alarm anyone for quite awhile. Camels were later credited with the tattoo revival in the 80's.
muse 77 We love it too. We have a few more posted, as well as Ida Lupino's "real" "This is Your Life" show. You might also like "So This is Hollywood" with Mitzi Green and Virginia Gibson.
Yes, I posted a few that you should be able to bring up. Here's a link to one of them: ruclips.net/video/gu1uUFR9raQ/видео.html&google_comment_id=z13tyt1ilpzfe5uhz04cdde5gt20t3qw0kw0k&google_view_type#gpluscomments
I have always admired Lupino and Duff as a couple. But the cigarette commercials were horrid. Silvers died some time after a stroke. I am an x-smoker. Thanks for sharing this. The quality of film and voice is great!
11-18-2022. ZOWIE I did this and Steven challenged me. The points I lost, I sobbed until Ben'et had to laugh. Well, I said to Steven, "This is fun not!"
What a delightful show!! Howard is so cute with a great voice, what a guy! I adore Ida she wears the coolest dresses!

I've also posted Ida's real-life appearance of "This is Your Life," on which her mother also appears.
lemorab1 Apparently, Ida referred to herself as the "poor man's Bette Davis" but she definitely was not poor in anything.

Actually, Ida denied say that that.
I love the way she pretends to pour coffee from the empty pot.
Terrific show. Thank you for the upload!
The cartoon looks like them. Ida is my favorite.
I love Scrabble. My brother once beat me by using the word "wyes".

Ay there's Dr. Bellows here!
I love their cigarettes commercials back in the day. Whether you smoke a Camel or anything else, you end up with the same cancer.
But with Lucky Strike, your lung is toasted.
Yes, the are a Hoot.. 😅.the "matter o' fact" tone in which they are delivered ! Lost innocence.

Do you have "So This is Hollywood?" I remember that as a kid, too, but have not been able to find it on youtube.

I can detect Wilbur Hatch music instantly. Nice not to have a Latin rhythm and a lot of flutes...
Nice pace, huh?
