I played GOW 2 first before got to the first game. I always wondered back then "why is his skin white?" Then when I played the first game, the revelation was so impactful to me. And that score that they used, epic.

for those who wonder why he have the red tattoo.. you must play God of war Ghost of sparta in psp or ps3.. it is the mark of his brother deimos. back then the oracle said that "a marked warrior will bring the destruction of olympus" now ares caught the wrong marked one which is deimos instead of kratos.. now he tattooed the red mark in honor for his lost brother.. but in the game you fight deimos his brother because he is inprisoned from the death realm
I thought the "mark" of the "marked warrior" was ashes of his family as that kinda did acted as the ultimate sign he now walks a path he could never turn from...

1.Spilling the bloods of enemies
2.Spilling the bloods of innocent
3.Spilling the bloods of his own family
In order to make kratos a perfect warrior , kratos did all rites but after those kratos stop serving ares and curse him for his action
