Frances Bavier, who played Aunt Bee on the Andy Griffith Show, was a former Barn Stormer and pilot in the 1920s. There was also an episode of Andy Griffith where Aunt Bee took flight lessons and soloed an aircraft.
Kenny G, Treat Williams (RIP), Enrique Iglesias, Clint Eastwood, Dennis Quaid, Lorenzo Lamas, Craig Ferguson, Christopher Reeve (RIP), Sydney Pollack, Arnold Palmer,
William Shatner was a paramotor pilot and starred in a paramotor instruction video called risk and reward. Maybe not a “real” pilot but still pretty cool!
Here in NC I grew up watching Franc White the Southern Sportsman. He was local but filmed and produced most of his own stuff. Hunting, fishing, and cooking. In the intro to his shows was a clip of his zebra stripped Maule. I actually met him once at my local municipal airport when I was a kid. He flew in there with his sidekick, his dog. Don't know how big of an area the show was aired, but it ran from 72 to 96.
👍✅ Bruce Dickinson has been a 747 pilot for years, when the band did some big tours they leased a 747 and painted it for the tour. Watched a documentary of one of the world tours years ago.
Fred Rogers was a pilot. Discussed in episode 1160 of " Mister Roger's Neighborhood." I also seem to remember a TV interview with him and footage of him doing a preflight. Might be remembering that wrong though. It was a long time ago.
Bruce Dickenson was a 747 pilot long before he was a famous musician. They had their own 747 they rented for tours done up with a sick paint job and he was the pilot that flew them around the world
Hearing Morgan Freeman on the radio would be awesome! Also watching Christy discover the internet was gold 😂 Dan, how could you not know who The Offspring are? Or Dave Coulier? C'mon brother! haha
Like others have mentioned. Bruce Dickinson is commercial rated. Iron Maiden leased a Boeing 747, known by the registration TF-AAK, is now owned by Air Atlanta Icelandic and is 21 years old and powered by the famous Rolls Royce RB211's. Nick named ED FORCE ONE and Bruce has flown for British Airways.
Me! I'm famous and I fly! Well....I'm not famous yet, but one day I know I will be discovered. (joking) Great episode Dan and Christy. Next year when I camp under the wing of my experimental airplane for the first time, I'll come say hello. Cheers from Winnipeg.
You could do an episode on people who became (minor) celebrities as a _result_ of being pilots. "Sully" being the most obvious, but also people like Al Haynes. And there are females in that list: Tammie Jo Shults, for example.
These guys are pilots too - jimmy buffet, james franco, enrique iglesias, tim mcgraw.. I remember that James Franco starred as a WWI pilot in the movie Flyboys. What I have not been able to find is whether he trained and flew his own stunts in that movie. Tim McGraw is also the nephew of Dr. Phil McGraw.
@@TakingOff For every well-know celebrity we know about, I wouldn't be surprised to find that many b and c list actors/actresses also have interesting aviation credentials.

@RamblingsofJT You didn't complete your statement as to WHY he no longer pilots. It is this.... In 2008 he was in a near-fatal car accident that damaged the nerves and paralyzed his left hand, leaving him unable to fly. He does still fly as co-pilot.
You missed one of most famous female personalities. Oprah Winfrey. She has her private pilot's license. Also, old time singer, Don Ho, was an Air Force pilot.
Several of the NASCAR drivers and team owners are pilots. Davey Allison was flying a helicopter when he crashed and died at Talladega. Several NFL football players are pilots.
I have that movie in my archives, but I learned this just now when I was trying to see if James Franco did his own stunts. In preparing for the starring role, Franco took flying lessons. All the other main actors, except Jean Reno, were filmed in actual aircraft in anticipation of using the aerial footage in final scenes. (Reno pointedly refused the offer, with a "No thanks, I'm afraid of flying." admission). Very little other than Franco's closeups in a cockpit ultimately made it to the screen.
There''s a few Nascar racers that are pilots and used their helicopters to help transport supplies to Hurricane Helene victims. Christy: Google Amelia Earhart. Colorado pilot now with new surname: Walsh. Flew around the world a few years ago in a PC-12 retracing original Amelia flight. She writes for AVWeb, I think.
Tom Segura(comedian) was working on his Helicopter, maybe has his license by now. Greg Biffle(NASCAR Driver) has his Helicopter license and owns a Robinson
On the next episode of Taking Off, Christy learns how to use Chat GPT to stalk people. 😅. Great video as always.

I grew up watching Arthur Godfrey. He was one of my hero's that made me want to be a pilot when I was a young man.
He had a song about Teterboro Tower......
I got my multi-engine rating in his (former) travelair back in the 80s.
Morgan Freeman has done some commercials for AOPA as well. Very impressive stuff!
