    I'd like to make a quick comment on the new subscription services that reMarkable is requiring for online connectivity. As I mentioned I use the reMarkable for my personal organization and don't really share my notes, I realize this might not be the norm of how people want to use this device. The "connect lite" feature ($4.99 a month) offers unlimited cloud storage and the "connect" option ($7.99) a month offers, cloud integration with google drive/dropbox/onenote as well as the screen sharing feature, email sending and the OCR (writing-to-text) conversion. Over the long term this makes the reMarkable a much more expensive device to own, for the record I am quite against these subscription models especially when the hardware is already very expensive! Even more so when they are implemented down the line so you are forced to buy in with a product you already own. In addition to replacing nibs over time this makes the long term ownership cost quite $$$$. This practice alone will force me to look at some of the competition in the market, stay tuned for future updates.
    Update: They have updated to just a connect option now for 2.99$ a month, I'm sure they faced a lot of backlash for the egregious prices they were trying to charge that I listed above.
    Also amazon and best buy now carry the Remarkable amzn.to/43P60jY

      This is exactly why I decided not to buy one. Just so I understand correctly, you can't even connect to google, etc through wifi for free? You need a subscription? If so, that's trash.

    As a reMarkable 1 user, I was eager to watch this review. I’ve been contemplating upgrading to the reMarkable 2 and this video provided me with a lot of information to consider while not overwhelming me. I particularly appreciated the conversational tone of the video and how you seemed to really analyze this product’s usability from all angles. I felt like I was sitting there having a conversation with a really knowledgeable and trustworthy friend, as opposed to sitting in a lecture presentation, which is how a lot of tech review videos feel to me. I’m not super tech savvy so your style feels approachable.

    Great review ! Really well done. I have had my reMarkable 2 for over a year, and love it for what it was designed for -- a replacement for manual notebooks. I recently had someone at work purchase one after a brief conversation with me, and was a little concerned that perhaps they had jumped in too quickly after that conversation, so came here to see what others had to say. Your review reassured me that my take is the same as yours -- it's pretty great at what it is designed for. Having this has allowed me to keep my meeting notes organized in a way that I wasn't accomplishing with a paper system. I also often take notes in one meeting -- with my workgroup -- and then at the end of the meeting I can just copy and paste the appropriate portions over to the reMarkable file/notebook I maintain for my meetings with my boss. It's all just there a couple days later, when I step into the meeting with her, I have it all right there, along with anything from other meetings that week that I need to report out on. That in itself had been worth the price to me, being able to consolidate my thoughts about several projects in a ready way to share with her in a negligible amount of time. Thanks for your review!

      Appreciate the kind words! I agree the organization is probably the most important thing for me and the space saving of having all my notes in one place! It's nice to hear how you use it at work with your boss, I don't know many people that own one besides my sister so I like hearing different use cases. I would eventually like to look to do some digging into the competition and how those compare to each other 😃 thanks for watching Kristi!

    I have a rM1 for 4 years. they need a search function that can search through my handwritten notes to load the notebook to the page I need. I don't want them to convert my stuff into plain english text, I want my handwriting as-is. But they could convert the handwriting into text in the background as metadata to facilitate searching.

    I love the feel of the device and, yes, the step away from the distraction of just another computer or smart pad. I believe that long term they have put a big ding in customer relations by 'parting out' the device from the onset. Yes, who indeed would buy a smart pad without a stylus?!? And then add the eraser as an option? And introduce a subscription for basic functionality? The warm and fuzzy feel of a cool device is thus jilted a by the high cost and pricing. I'm looking right now at the vid on an aftermarket stylus, btw.

    I have had a remarkable 2 for about 2 years too and I agree about the eraser. One of my gripes about the eraser is that it's a fixed size or erase area, you can't resize the eraser, so it feels quite coarse.

    • @VladimirKostek
      @VladimirKostek  2 года назад +3

      Yes agreed! It would be awesome if they added an eraser tool in the software for different sizes and pressures. For erasing writing it is ok but for drawing it isn't great especially for shading!

They are helpful in that they go over the major features, but often leave me questioning whether the product is still right for me. However, I really appreciated your honesty and all the insights that you have collected over months of use. I really appreciate how you focus on the different use cases and where the reMarkable is strong and weak, talking about alternative devices that may be better for a given use case. As appose to listing this feature, that feature type analysis. I have notebooks all over the place! I can't keep track of which one I used for a specific topic or need. Just drives me nuts. And then sometimes I don't need an entire notebook for a subject so it's only used for a few pages. It's crazy. That's why I decided on the reMarkable in the first place. It's nice to have a distraction free ( iPad and phone always dinging with notification distraction is a real thing) writing space that is close to a pencil writing feel in one space. Also, the price alone forces me to keep close eye on the tablet and take good care of it. I'm happy with My R2!

    Be careful with buying it and expectations, the equipment is good but it is difficult to run some docs and above all the technical service, as some other member puts it, is very bad and there is no repair service (important when you realize that with the smallest blow is damaged and obviously not covered by the guarantee) keep this in mind, if I had known I think I would have chosen another option with service

    Just a quick question about it storage wise, if I’m taking notes everyday for uni would it storage be enough or can I just immediately store the files onto my Mac instead of saving them locally or do I have to have a specific subscription or soemthing?

    • @VladimirKostek
      @VladimirKostek  5 месяцев назад

      I believe if you want Dropbox or Google drive integration you need connect. They do offer a free 1 year trial of connect and after that it's $2.99/month. Spacewise it's hard to fill up the device... especially if you are transferring files to the MAC often. Here is what they say about using the reMarkable without Connect... files on your reMarkable will stop syncing to the cloud if you don’t open them for 50 days. You also won’t have access to note-taking in the reMarkable mobile and desktop apps, the reMarkable 2 Protection Plan, and exclusive offers and discounts in our webshop.

I would primarily use it to replace notebooks I use at work for staff and project meeting notes, to-dos etc., and generally writing (not drawing). A few questions: Can you back up your writings without use of the cloud? In looking at the website they have a refurbished for $20 less but with same return policy and 100-day satisfaction guarantee (not a significant price break though). Not sure if the refurbished has the same 1-year limited warranty (warranty doesn't specifically exclude them)...would you know from your experience or research? You didn't talk about the Connect subscription is that beneficial or a necessity in your opinion? I priced one with the eraser pen, brown leather folio and it was $579 (refurbished)...$40 more than the gray (like yours). Thanks!

      I made an updated comment on my vid and pinned it to the top. Basically, reMarkable's new "connect" subscriptions have put all of the original online features behind a paywall. With the Connect Lite you will add unlimited cloud storage. The full connect paywall subscription will add all of the cloud storage options and OCR ability. I have had my reMarkable for so long that I didn't realize they changed things up. I'm quite disappointed regarding this business model however like I mentioned I really don't use many of those features. This will however necessitate me looking more closely into the competition so expect a vid on that at some point!

      I actually don't think so, my sister still has the reMarkable 1 and that thing still runs very well. The reMarkable 2 is snappier and more responsive, it is a very simple tablet in most senses so it really doesn't need a crazy processor or anything. In some senses the lower powered CPU probably helps with battery life as well, as does the e-ink screen. This is certainly the type of the device that will receive incremental updates every 4 years or so, it doesn't need revolutionary changes from each design model, just iterative updates.
