Just a quick comment about security, the Manta does not have any encryption whereas the Paper Pro has hardware encryption. Unfortunately neither of them has a fingerprint sensor... which is a missed mark by both in my book :(
Got a Nomad delivery this morning and I haven't been able to put it down. I feel like a kid on Christmas! It is so much more responsive than I thought it would be and holding it landscape gives me enough room to write without feeling like I have to keep moving to the next line. Can't wait to see where this market goes!
2:55 : - I think, at this point of development of rMPP , we should mention that there is a very handy gesture "Five Finger Full Refresh" , starting with the 3.17.X rMPP firmware version, which is a similar helper comparing to the Manta's swipe up right-hand sidebar gesture. - I personally used to use that gesture to refresh all the ghosting on the rMPP, when needed.
This was an excellent comparison my friend. You really nailed it. If you don't need color, I think there is a clear choice. However, I am still super intrigued by the RPP. I just can't justify the price since color is not in my workflow.
I have owned both the A5X and Remarkable 2 and Paper Pro. I have settled on the Paper Pro as I personally like the writing feel, their file and tagging system for my use case works best. I find their handwriting recognition to be more accurate, and the file sync system although it costs a little each month, it's leagues above the Supernote system. The file conflicts on the Supernote were a pain.
I would love if Supernote came out with a color device. I know they most likely won’t because from what I understand they prioritize writing feel. But in my experience I’m willing to have a color device without frontlight. I use my kobo Libra Colour without front light with using a good external light source. And I love the way it looks. Even though yes it has a darker background. I feel like color is helpful also in my experience for learning and notetaking and some PDFs.
Hey Nat, I do think they would eventually consider using color once the tech improves more. However if that were to be true, nothing like that would come out before the A4 X2. The reason being color has too many compromises right now, but when the tech advances it could fit in line with their motto "for those who write". I for one was surprised this year when reMarkable came out with color. Ratta has talked about it in this post here if you want to check it out www.reddit.com/r/Supernote/comments/1fov3oh/why_is_supernote_not_rushing_to_adopt_color_e_ink/
@@VladimirKostek that’s gives me some hope! I currently have the Supernote nomad and I’m so glad they have prioritized the writing experience. It’s unmatched.
@@VladimirKostek I like it. I like the side button and the tip with the eraser. At first it was hard for me to use because how smooth it is and how thin. But I’ve gotten used to it now and enjoy it. It may feel like something hard meeting a hard surface but I personally don’t mind it too much. It’s nice sometimes to not feel like you have to press to hard on the screen. Plus the matte surface helps. But it’s definitely not like the Supernote writing experience. Best e notebook 🤩 it’s not as precise. I just hope they come out with shapes soon which the kobo has and is so useful. I know they have lines soon which is exciting.
If you want color at the same resolution as B&W, then the reMarkable Paper Pro is the only game in town. Firmware 3.16 has improved color contrast and added some features. I think it is still a diamond in the rough, but worth watching for future firmware updates.
@@chocolatefudge5263 - Not unless they want to compete with tablet features of the other e-ink's. It just came out late 2024. Happy New Year, BTW. First comment of 2025.
@VladimirKostek How do I like Linux as a desktop? I have been exclusively a Linux desktop user since 1996. So, I love it. Or are you asking about Supernote and Linux. That, I don't know yet. My Supernote is arriving in a week or two. But there is no Supernote app for Linux yet (they say they are working on it). That's why I was asking if the desktop app is really just a nicety. Because, if it is pretty integral to using the device, I will either muddle through, or be forced to return the device.
That is the only viable comparison for me because these are the only Carta 1300 devices of the same size and Viwoods is better build (it’s all metal, no rattling back covers) and is catching up (software wise) very quickly. I will be eagerly waiting for this comparison too.
1.7 lbs? That's gotta be fun to read in bed with. I returned the Boox Note Air 3c partially because it was too heavy. Supernote made the right decision to trim weight in every way they could.
Probably one of the best bang for the buck notetakers out there but these two are the pinnacle of e ink notetaking rn IMHO. I will do a top 5 video soon and the 10.3 is def in there
Piggy backing here, as power user of boox go 10.3 and also the rm pro (5+ hours daily) the YT knows what he's talking about, the rm pro is simply not even in the same sentence as the Boox go 10.3 when it comes to note taking and marking up documents. The device literally feels like it's the $400 better writing exprience. I love my boox go 10.3 it's a workhorse that's for sure, but it just has no place being in the same sentence as the RM Pro. RM 2? Toss it out the window. RM pro though, is just not even remotely comparable to the Boox 10.3 it's like the most a Toyota and Ferrari have in common is they are cars. It's not just the feeling, it's entirely superfluous.. Latency, the organization.. Boox does not have a system wide search function like the rm pro does. The Boox you must search notes app and files app individually, where the rm allows you to tag both pdfs entirely, pdf pages, or notes and then search the tags system wide. The Boox has no feature for this, you must search notes app and neo reader app separately and it is a pain. The Boox is insane, everyone should own it. I'm not saying it's bad at all, but until you've tried the rm pro, you simply have no clue.
@@MrKooderna this is a little odd to me bc I don't know why I'd have to search random files in addition to the notes app. I use my notes app on my 10.3 like "the database of the stuff I want to work on." everything goes in there. I don't use NeoReader for anything other than just reading books. maybe I'm missing something by doing that?
Through daily studies I'm building a knowledge base, a structured mass that I can search and navigate around at ease. One of my folders _[topics]_ has nearly 800 notebooks and as each topic or even a single verse within a topic can relate to numerous other topics, I need a device that can cope with all this and much more. As things are, if I had either a Boox device or the reMarkable I'd be very hard pressed to force my extensive knowledge base to give up its secrets on-the-fly when I need them, either during a discussion, debate or while putting together a study. For me, the Supernote platform is currently by far the best out there *_for my use-case_* though I do have a Boox Lumi for running a Bible app and a browser, which Supernote can't really do effectively, so have it sitting in a stand on my table before me. I don't think the colour technology is really there yet, especially when you have to obscure text when wishing to highlight it, as the colour layer sits atop the monochrome, yet still... colour looks promising.
Hopefully, a bit of a face lift with a Carta 1300 B&W screen and a bit more storage would be great. With some of the new features that Remarkable is introducing, its not that far off what a SN can do in terms of just pure writing, notetaking etc.
True, I would be surprised if rM didn't launch an A5 size next year. The rM2 is getting a little long in the tooth in terms of the tech (still a good device if you have one)

Yea makes sense, not for everyone
Take photo with phone. Tap "Print" select, "Print to pdf" then share it to RM app. Screenshot anything and share it to rm in 5 seconds with this.

Finally A COMPARISON…
