"Lord of the underworld" was the phrase that inspired most of the piece. The piece slams into play (heads up) with a huge chord on the pipe organ, leading into a driving rhythmic pattern on viking drums, featuring inuit throat singing. Apart from sounding wicked cool, the throat singing also recalls gasping for air in the miasma-ridden lair.
The clicking and rattling you'll hear throughout is an actual sampled jawbone (from the skull of a cow I think) that is hit. Furthermore, listening closely, the violins and brass will play "fly buzzing" textures in the middle, and I even tried to use a synth to create the effect of vomiting, both because it would be disgusting to fight a Vaal Hazak, but also because he spews miasma like so.
The piece also features a massive mixed choir and full orchestra, climaxing with the main theme near the end. The music calms briefly before a creepy "reawakening" motif crescendos to restart the loop, much like Vaal sometimes crashes down, only as a preparation for a devastating attack.

YEAH! THAT'S MY BOY! Glad to see my suggestion finally come to fruition, and it's beautiful! Slow by foreboding, it definitely encapsulates Vaal very well. While slow in its attacks, it remains lethal with its effluvial aura. The music feels as though it is a warning, as Vaal would probably be the last of the three elders you would really wish to face. Not only can it effluvium suffocate you, but it agitates the smaller monsters in its vicinity. It should also be mentioned that the World Assignment was the first Vaal Hazak hunt, you have no knowledge, no lessons to guide you. It is just you verse a beast that will disintegrate you if it doesn't crush you. The vocals are also great and add to the terror wrought by the presence of Vaal Hazak.
If it isn't obvious, I adore this monster. It's a shame that its fight is quite lackluster while it has such beautiful theming and ecology. I want to recreate it in my emerging fan game, making it truly menacing, even for experienced players. One notable spot I want to highlight with Vaal is its interaction with the wildlife of the surrounding area. Small and large monsters do not always leave when Vaal is present. In fact, I believe the Vaal Hazak v. Odogaron turf war the first turf war between an Elder Dragon and a large monster, maybe even the first with an Elder Dragon in general (I don't remember if Nergigante had turf wars before AT). Like I mentioned earlier, small monsters can be infected by effluvium and become more agitated. Sadly 5th gen dramatically dropped the power of small monsters in hunts, something I want to bring back. It'd make Vaal's major openings much more difficult to exploit with Raphinos and Girros biting at you with more frequency. Also, the greater speed we have in 5th gen means Vaal's more infrequent attacks pose less of a threat (although I get this balances the half-health status aliment, which has some issues itself).
Blackveil also has its own additional gimmicks that are interesting, but I really don't like it as much as the original Vaal; its not as cute. Although BV's ecology does mean it could live outside the Vale, which is why I really wanted to see Vaal in Sunbreak with the vampiric theme of Malzeno and Gaismagorm. Maybe in MH6, or MH6G, or MHP6, or MHP6G, or MH7...
Also surprisingly I still haven't done the RE Vaal Hazak yet, going to have to try it out after listening to this!

No freaking way, this is awesome! This version really accentuates the fact that you're fighting a dragon of decay in the remains of a decaying snake the size of a mountain.
So THAT'S why it had a 'double jaw'. That's fascinating! Who's the snake? Dalamadur?
@@206Zelda actually the extra jaw is just part it, like how some fish have a second set of jaws for grabbing prey. The whole Rotten Vale is the decaying corpse of Dalamadur.
@@michaellennerman7844 That's so cool!! I remember fighting Dalamadur in MH4 and felt sad that I haven't seen such a massive thing since. That makes sense why the tunnels looked like ribcages but I never put two and two together.
@@206Zelda Dalamadur is genuinely in my top three elder dragon fights. It's such a climactic fight. Right alongside Gogmazios and Atararu-ka.

I can’t resist air conducting that part. The crescendo with both hands and the broad strokes as the orchestra and choir just lean into the baroque death-god vibes lol I can’t imagine how awesome it would be to fill a concert hall with that sound. I wish. :)

New favorite theme song unlocked
I genuinely like this song more the Vaal hazak's in-game music (which I like pretty well still). Your attention to detail in these arrangements is amazing, I love the gasping throat singing and buzzing fly vibes. The lighter, rhythmic sections feel more true to Vaal's putrid yet passive nature in the veil as a seeming sheperd of rot. Then the big orchestral sections feel more the hunter (and commission's) perception of Vaal as an alien menace of death and decay.
I personally find Vaal as one of the coolest elder dragons for being a more passive and regulating part of the ecosystem (hunting it always feel a bit unnecessary to me as he mostly is just chilling in the Veil,) but hearing the somber, gothic orchestral parts feels vindicating for fighting him. Amazing work!

Wonderful theme as always! By any chance could you make one for some of Rise's monsters? Given that the they're all inspired by Japanese folklore, they're obviously gonna need some traditional Japanese instruments thrown in.
There are two particular Rise monsters I'd love to hear a fanmade theme of. First is Tetranadon. It's based off of the Kappa so it's an amphibious sumo wrestler. Rather than a didgeridoo that would typically emphasize a dirty, murky swamp, I think it'd be more appropriate for some different instrument to be thrown in that represents the pure rivers and streams, of which the Kappa/Tetranadon resides in. Oh, and for the sumo part, I recommend adding heavy taiko percussion.
And then there's Somnacanth, a Leviathan based off of mermaids from both Japanese and western myth. Would love to hear that mix of beauty and eeriness in the form of some underwater motifs (not unlike your fanmade Namielle theme) paired in with feminine lullaby-esque vocals!

@@nwsiaki Especially his Archtempered armor. I would change the glow color based off of what element I was using and I used the vampire layered armor from Halloween and match the eye glow

This is a really good take on vaal hazak, he is one of my favourite elder dragons, i think the aspect of horror in the music is way better than vaals original theme, with it being very energetic. Both are so good.

In any case, I was also surprised by the energy of the original. It does however sound more like monster hunter, which is the parameters the original composers have to work with. And a director who has their own ideas of what it should be.
