We are so grateful to have been able to put this series of BMW M3 legends together, the E30, E36, E46, E92 and the 2019 BMW M3 F80 generations all together like this with awesome cars like the CSL, GTS, Sport Evo, and more. It was a thrill to make and we hope you like this final episode. - Авто/Мото
The E46 M3 no questions asked
I've been fortunate enough to have owned all of the US M3 models over the years (except for the F82 as I'm not a fan of turbo M cars), and he's right - the E92 is the best. That engine is pure magic, and I think it's the best looking as well.
993mike agreed mike!
F80 owners can't hear you, they're too far ahead 0.o
I agree I have E92 as well but I miss lightness and steering precision of E46
993mike as someone who has also been fortunate enough to have owned every iteration of the M3 with the exception of the E30 I have to disagree and say the E46 felt noticeably more agile and focused that my E92 did....and I was able to drive my two cars back to back as I sold my E46 to a friend of mine in 2008 when the E92 came out. The newer M cars just are t that special and although I purchased an M2 in 2017 and it was closer in spirit to the older cars than the F80’s ....it’s still lacking compared to older M’s in my opinion
Pikka GTR you don’t buy an M3 to be the fastest. You’ll get spanked by a lightly tuned RS3 anyway
To sum it up:
Engine: E46
Looks: E36
Brakes: F82
Chassis balance: E30
One to take home: E92
Ooooh, you almost had me... until the end. It has to be a NA inline 6. I´ll take the e46 please.
My dream the e36 with the v8 I would be burried in this car if it exsisted
Engine: e36
Looks: e46
Brakes, gearbox: F82
Chasis balance, one to take home e30 e30 forever the best of the best!
T S as a classic car it’s perfect - as a use able car with the tech we have all grown to relay on I couldn’t live with it my e92 has the perfect blend
Ts, why s50 over s54?
I'd personally go for E46 CSL and then swap it to a manual...🤤
Stefan Grubesic did the swap on my driveway last year, best thing ever
@@avd1697 how long does something like that take?
... or find an E46 CS with a manual and save quite a bit of cash and hassle :)
@Keynesian Economics Dude everybody who drives it says that the transmission is bad, I'd do it in a heartbeat, same with 430 Scuderia
@Keynesian Economics You perfectly represent what's wrong in the car world, you wouldn't change anything in a limited edition car because it'd maybe loose value by doing that even if that change would make the driving experience miles better, you know why, because if you'd buy it you wouldn't drive it, it'd sit in a garage, I feel sad for you...
I'd pick nothing but the CSL. It's a dream Machine.
Basic comment. Nice one parrot
For me the e92 has the best engine! But I wish the car was a little lighter:)
Put the Akrapovic exhaust -24 kg, put the lighter weight battery from let's say mini cooper - 15 kg, rear seat delete another minus 10-20 kg, sport Recaro seats with clever lightweight adapters another 25 kg. And you have E92 lighter car than F82 or same weight as E46.
@@skrypka True. First thing I would do is take those heavy powered front seats out. I wouldn't get Akra tho, too obnoxious for me.
Agreed
@Zombie Head E30 isn't the only manual (E36 is too) and you mean E46 M3 CSL not E36
Zombie Head The E36 is not smg it’s manual! Watch the e36 specific video.
I own a 97 E36 M3 Sedan that I swapped the E46 M3 S54 engine into, along with 6Spd transmission. Then everything else in the car was rebuilt/restored. I think it's the best damn car ever.
Ive got a Supercharged E36 and love it to death!
Do you have an Instagram and or that shows off the car, I’m very interested
That sounds amazing. I will do an S54 swap on my E30 sedan in the future!
The sound that e92 makes is something I'd happily listen to for the rest of my days
Henry, you were great, as usual. Plz follow it up with a similar series of M5 cars.
Finally some love for the E36! The most underrated M3 and 3 Series
Agree. The E36 is a joy to own and use.
That E36 GT 👌
I own a beautiful 95 E36 325i Morea green convertible
Original owner of ‘99 M3 here. I agree with your statement!
Love the E36
I love the E30 but I think, at the end of the day, I'd pick the M3 CSL. The E46 is just beautiful.
One of my favorite series. Please do more of these.
E92 GTS or E90 CRT. Both are rare (CRT even more so), and that V8 is a dying breed.
They are all lovely and amazing for different reasons. I have owned E36 and E46, driven the others and honestly, to own, it would be the e36 - no fears of rod bearings, subframe, etc. issues, light, and love the looks. All their looks can be modified to be awesome though. As a harsh critic, the rasp of the e46 isn't always pleasant at all times... E36 sounds like half a ferrari.
Call me predictable, but it's gotta be the E46 CSL all day.
Have to argue with the chassis balance category. There's a reason the e36 is present at every track-day and autoX still today, nearly 25 years later. Not to mention the ease with which you can do great smokey burnouts and drift the thing into a turn.
As an M4 CP owner I must say all of the M3's are amazing in their own way!
E46 M3 is my Favorite. Drove the F80 M3 yesterday up Angeles Crest and that thing is a Beast.
A friend of mine owns an M4. I let him drive my E30 M3 on twisty backroads a few weeks back. He was amazed how fast and nimble it was.
He said his M4 was faster in all aspects, but the feel, sensation and power delivery of the E30 was lacking in his M4. I drove his M4 after that, I floored it on the straight whilst holding a Moccacino cup in my hands, I didn’t spill a drop... Yes its ridiculously fast! But neutered from all road contact feel.
Ill stick to my E30 M3 built for one single purpose: Racing...
All other M’s are great, but derivatives from a era we will never live or see again...
E36
e46 for me. So many great, great memories. Lately thinking to buy it again.
Great review and series! I truly enjoyed every bit of it and awesome videography to match. One REQUEST - wouldn’t a M2C vs. best of 3 series be a good idea? Maybe compare the earlier M3 generations to the latest M2?
I’ve just bought a e92 m3 frozen silver edition. Glad u mentioned that v8 it’s intoxicating maybe not the fastest but brings life and some much theatre to the driving experience.
My dream was the e36, but today I would say that the best one ever is the e46. As usual you made a wonderful video.
Henry, I am SO GLAD YOU were given the Chance to drive all these wonders back to back!
phenomenal series, carfection - thank you!
Amazing series! I love the E46 personally but I'm a bit biased because I have one on my channel haha. You should do a series like this for more cars!!
Excellent as always! Please do more series like this with other icons!
I think the CSL and its entire generation was probably the prettiest 3 series generation ever.
Sandouras Shame there was no manual CSL
E36 for me
E46 for me...🙋🏻♂️🙋🏻♂️🙋🏻♂️
Proper closure to a series!
Hat's off!
:)
Well done sir! I truly enjoyed this comparison series. It would be great to see an M5 series too, here’s hoping.
CSL looks the best sounds the best and handles the best..it is the best.
I'm taking the E30 personally...
It was between the E46 CSL and E92 for me. But I chose the e92 at the end. Maybe it’s because the m3 of my generation?
Awesome series, very well done. As a BMW fan, this series has a special place in memory
For the looks I also would say the e36.
Though I own the F80 M3 CS, that CSL or GTS would be a great addition.
E92 v8 noise is the only engine that gets petrol heads smiling every time guaranteed
Ownership of 2 e46 m3s and have the v8 m3 now turned down the m4 purely due to the lack of noise
Thank you for that very helpful
I've seen all the videos, they are really awesome. Thanks Carfection! I'd go for the CSL, it's my dream car.
I would like to know the name of the music that you've used at the end of the videos, it suits perfectly this stuff. Thanks!
Thanks Henry, I knew you would choose the right car!
M3 a iconic name!!
I drove all of this M3s except E30 (drove 2.3 L stroker replica and V8 swapped variations) and E46 was not CSL but just lightened m3 with some mods here and there.
And there is NOTHING close to that V8 sound of E92 M3. You can listen to it the whole day long. Literally... Specially when you downshift with DCT and it makes rev matching. I've become wet even while not finished last sentence. Of course E46 Csl has that absolutely one of a kind induction noise, but S65B40 (44 for GTS) still got the crown. The last and the best from BMW NA masterpieces.
And there is something magnificent in playing with weight transfer of E92 M3, somewhere on the edge of the grip.
The E30 just pulls on my heart strings for some reason and It's not even really a car of my generation I was a toddler when it was launched, but I just think it's awesome.
great video
Fantastic series on my favourite cars! E46 for me 👍😍
If I was rich, this would be my car collection.
Excellent film series, thank you!! A similar series about the 911, GT and/or Turbo models if you can only wrangle so many cars, would be wonderful. Please and thank you.
Any of these cars would be amazing, but I'd probably go E46- I use to see one regularly on the ride to school in the morning when I was a kid and always thought it was really cool.
There ain’t no best Generation ! Just all great cars throughout the years of M cars !
I think that's what makes them so special they all bring something to the table.
Disagree. Sorry. M lost the plot after the E46.
They’re all so amazing…
This video really gave me the goosebumps
I purchased an e92 M3 last year, and knew the first time I heard it that I'd have to someday own one. Just getting the rod bearings done as I write this, and can't wait to get it back. Fun car for sure, and obviously depends on your driving style, appearance preference, and the types of roads are in your commute as to what M3 you would prefer. For me, some mundane highway driving with little traffic is common, but this thing makes it a treat. The overall somewhat subtle appearance and overall driving characteristics are also my favorite, but will always come down to personal preferences.
1.E36 2.E46 3.E30 4.E92. 5.F82.
Of the special editions it'd go something like this: 1.E46 M3 GTR(Not the NFS version, but the one BMW has in their basement). 2. E92 GTS
3. E36 GT. 4. E46 CSL. 5. M4 GTS.
Yo, wise guy, at least know your BMWs. F82 is the M4, wtf.
@@thefridgeman Im fully aware of it, but given the M4 is just a different name for a M3 coupe, id still consider it apart of this.
Just picked up my dream m3. E90 lci alpline white on fox red !
I own an E36 M3 GT (#111/350), and I think I would only swap it for a CSL to be honest,
Sveinn Helgason You shouldn’t swap it at al :-)
ButchE30M3S14 it was a hypothetical situation. My GT is very special to me, its’s become a bit of a “resto-mod”, sort of a Simger GT :)
Long list of mods with more or less oem looks. I know it doesnt make it as collectable as a fully OEM GT. However it drives unbelivebly. 2x the hp, more than 2x the torque, still a 3L S50B30.
Hope BMW makes the rumoured "pure" version of the G model M3. It would be a welcome and much needed move back to form. As for choice I'd go for the CSL for the engine and weight - it was a real effort from BMW with over 100kg taken out and made it quite exotic. Oh, and the pinnacle of that S54 inline 6!
Everyone chants CSL CSL CSL!
E30
The one to take home is the one that makes you smile seeing it in your driveway and been seen in it. It Has to be the original E30. The M3 badge and all the craze exists the because of the E30.
I drove a 2011 M3 with paddle shifters and a carbon fiber roof and it was a blast! (I normally prefer a manual)
For me it's a 50 50 toss up between the original e30 or the csl e46! I'd be ecstatic with either! But you know I'd happily live with any of them!
All good cars. Cant go wrong with any of them really
I'd defenitely get the E30.
Beautiful, just beautiful
I'd pick the E92 as well. Drove E46 M3 and E92 M3 each for 2-3 hours last summer and while i was tempted my the E46, the E92 won me over with that engine.
The E30 M3 has so much nostalgic bolx written about it. I'm sick to death of it. They are left hand drive and were very very rare in the day as all were imported and unpopular because of the left hand drive. I have an E36 M3 and an F80 M3. My E36 is fully restored, with corner balanced coil overs etc etc. Every single person who has seen it or has driven it absolutely loves it and so many people want to buy it off me even Germans at the Nürburgring. I have driven all of the M3's over the years and a sorted E36 M3 is the best one for me.
E30 "I like the way the rear follows you around" insightful. However I've had that with every Car Lorry or Motorbike I've ever driven!🤣
I'd missed Catchpole. That man's voice holds you by the gonards.
Absolutely. Do we even need Rory?
@@jep1912 let's think of him as a preliminary. Love him or hate him, They seem to match energies
It would have to be the e46 for me
Bravo.
Bread and butter... E46gang Ganggang///3...this is the model that made the world NOTICE the......3
Probably the generation where you can afford to own your very own M3.
Eh, I could afford much more expensive generations than the e36, but I chose the e36 for several reasons. Chief among which is looks, I live the boxy 90s style. The engine sounds fantastic and it is so perfectly ballanced between power and chassis. I used to own an e39 M5. It was a beautiful and amazing car, though I always aspired to own the e36 M3. I had driven many V8 BMWs, e38s and e39s, but never a six cylinder. I purchased an e36 328is and was bitten by the I6 brilliance. That beat up 328is convinced me to sell the M5 and buy an M3.
We can afford anything bro just gotta want it bad enough
All Of Them Are The Best
That's not how it works junior
@@BenSpies19 WDYM?
The e30 m3 is were it all began. Has to be no.1 on emotion. But the e92 is the best of all world's power, noise, looks, I don't think the f80 is better just different.
If I only could take 2 out of the 5 it would be the
F80-Great Performance
E46-like come on,e46 is like your favorite child. You love all of them but there’s something special about this one
Back in the late 80s My first BMW was a E30 318i and so the E30 M3 always was an unattainable goal. I then went to a 320i E36 and never had the same feeling about the M3 E36. By the time E46 I was living in the French alps and the need for a high power rear wheel drive wasn't a priority when its snowy half the year.
If you're not allowed a gearbox swap, the e92 by a distance. if you are, the CSL.....by a distance. Oh, and I'd upgrade the brakes while I was at it.
My heart wants to take home the E92 M3, my wallet says I already paid a lot of repairs on my ex non M e46. My wallet decided to take home a MX5 RF :D
Yes, the MX5 is the best M3 of the lot 👍
*Mazda3 is best M3
@@usernamealreadytaken770 It will break way less than a BMW M3
You only live once
@@usernamealreadytaken770 i would agree since i have both 🤣 get an OV Tune for your Mazda 3 btw. Worth every penny 👍
I love all of this cars but E92 M3 is special and probably will be even more desirable in the future . Just had blowup tire on mine at 100mi/h and it survived to see another track day 🙂
1.evo
2.e46 and e92
3.e36
E92 for me any day! Pick a good one up for around 25k euro now! 😍
E30 for looks and the E46 for performance.. nuff said
I am so jealous of you that you have the opportunity to drive all these wonderful cars. I'm not a fan of BMW and I prefer Mercedes. But M. it’s something special BMW M. is another dimension. Greetings from Montenegro.
The very 1st m3 i drove was the f80 and i didn't understand why everyone was comparing everything to the e46 m3 until i drove one. If i were to choose, i would take the e46m3 for the balance and confidence inspiring chassis and the f80 for pure adrinaline pumping.
I want an E46 M3. I love the sound, I love the looks... not the CSL though, I’d get the manual
E46 M3 my favourite...but not CSL the regular one
I'd pick the Gts too. Dunno but its just perfect.
E36 all the way 😍
Had an e46 and e90 for many years simultaneously. The reason being that I couldn't decide which one had to go so I kept both. Now only have the e90 as the e46 has gone to the car graveyard :( And now if I had to choose one - I still can't decide !!
All special editions aside the "normal"m3 list go like this: 1. E92 2. E46 3. E30. 4. E36 5. F82. Next generation RWD pure version will be in the top 3 for sure.
E92 GTS All The Way!
Hi
Any recommendations for an all season performance tyre irrelevant of price?
E46 CSL hands down. Then E30 then E92 GTS then E36 but that's not to say E36 is bad. They're all so so good.
E30. Will and always will be my favourite.
I had E46 before and last 7 years I have 6spd e92 competition, But I wish I had the V8 on E46 chassis,
I had a friend who S62 swapped an E46 M3, that was such a good car
e92. That high-rev V8 is magic.
I'll take them all no problem just say so hehehehe 😋 beautiful cars Best of Europe greetings from sLOVEnia
New CSL is also here :)
