My father had a Jewish friend back in the 60’s who gave him a copy of this album. Our family wore it out we listened to it so much. As kids we used to act out the skits for our parents and we had a ball. Even now my wife and I imitate the Plotnick curse and I’m hiding in the front closet skits!!! Great memories of a time when we could laugh at ourselves. And it still has us laughing. God bless the cast for all the laughter and happiness it has brought to so many for so long. Thank you for posting.
last will?....good luck= mazol tov/yes to learn from every one...i learned from Isaiah our Jewish prophet in chapter 53, we would reject the one who came to be our kippur/lamb atonement ..who would be despised and rejected, and he dies with the wicked and is buried with the rich..to offer to be our best friend. Not just to get nearer to Hashem...Isaiah 9 verses 5-7 to be the prince of peace G-d mighty = sar shalom El gibor...now my best friend....Shalom Shalom
in the end it says 'we are the chosen people' ...the joke is choose some other people for a change...yet Isaiah 7 chapter verses 13-15 says an alma would have a miracle and conceive a child and he would be God with us= EmannuEl....we are chosen to have the Messiah...and now He is my Messiah and best friend...it is good to be chosen...thanks Jimmy and all you too friend ...shalom
Me too. I love it. Plus it makes reference to many places and things from my childhood in the Bronx such as phone numbers that stared with “ Tremont” and choclate egg creams.
I came across this by chance tonight, and after the first line of the first story, it all came back to me in a flash, though I was 20 when it came out and I'm 77 now - "does this mean you're not coming???" There's humour, and then there's Jewish humour!!!

I grew up with the 45 rpm from this album, and still have it. It is as funny now as it was then! May the cast who is not among us anymore, be a blessed memory for all who knew and loved them. They are a blessed memory for me, and I never knew any of them!
They really don't make them like they used to. These LPs also got plenty of play time during my childhood and my sister and I still laugh at them today.
My dad would have me listen to Kenny Mayer who had a radio show Boston area playing comedy records Sunday nights. I particularly remember this LP You Don’t Have To Be Jewish. Brings back wonderful memories. Thank you
I have the original album inherited from my gran. They would listen to it on rainy days in Cape Town. Yes even us gentiles love this. Good humour is without borders
My folks had this album. Somehow I inherited it and 45 years ago played it for my future German Christian inlaws who loved it. Do not know where the album went. Have not heard in all those years. Stil funny, great memeories

Also, How to be a good Jewish mother. I bought both LPs on a trip to New York from UK in the early 60s. Still in mint condition. Also bought at the same time - I'm the greatest comedian in the world, only no one knows it. by a young Jackie Mason.
Frank Gallop was memorable for this & the sequel, "When You're in Love, the Whole World is Jewish" and its accompanying single, "The Ballad of Irving", the narrative to the first Mighty Mouse cartoon titled "The Mouse of Tomorrow", being Perry Como's announcer and, not to be outdone, the 1959 45 single, "(Hey There) Got a Match?"

Ethnic humor is a vital part of comedy but the word 'racist' has been so misused and abused that today's generations will never be able to get past that and it's a real shame.
I'll give it a shot: The Yiddish "kvetch" is often translated as "complain," but kvetch has a bit of enjoying getting to vent. So after he drinks the water, he'd rather kvetch instead of just saying, "Thank you." The exaggerated pessimism is the humor.
@@aaperry1The penny had finally dropped. Thank you for that. That was completely over my head. But now that you've explained it, it turns out it is quite amusing after all.
Many ethnic groups mock themselves. I have an Irish surname though I consider myself true blue English. If I think up or hear a piece of self-contradicting dialogue, I'll say "Irish!" .The great Spike Milligan mocked his race terribly in "The Goon Show" and "Q9". A team of Anglo-Indians mocked theirs in "Goodness Gracious Me" on BBC. Now, please don't flame me. Being a bit of a writer, I truly believe that commonsense makes bad drama. For example, the hero sees the arch-villain. Instead of calling for backup, he hares across the street at him, leaving a trail of testosterone behind him. Since Jews are common in the film and TV media, and they have a word called "Schmaltz", I say "Jewish!" Relax - I had a Jewish girlfriend.
Even after all these years, I still remember each and every nuance of this album!
Nuance is what it’s all about
Me too....it was my late father's favorite album!
Me too!
Hi I remember it word for word ☺️ from when I was a little girl (70+ now)
So do I! My parents played this album over & over in the 1960s.
My folks bought this when it came out in 1965 - it was wonderful then....still is.
Mine too
Same here!!
This was such a family favorite. I have such fond memories of listening to this album as a kid.

I remember this as though it was yesterday. On LP. Glad it’s on RUclips now! Hilarious as always.
Takes me back to the mid 60's. Comedy gold!
I would listen to this on my grandma’s record player as a kid. Good memories ♥️
The first story is the best, holds up even today!

Until very very recently I did not know Arlene Golonka wasn't Jewish. Like her friend Valerie Harper, she was so convincing.
this was the foundation of my childhood...

Mark Lesser Me too. And Alan Sherman as well!
Same here. 55 years ago and I remember every joke.

They really don't make them like they used to. These LPs also got plenty of play time during my childhood and my sister and I still laugh at them today.
My favorite performer on this album is Betty Walker. The “Long Island” and “Hotel Lobby” sketches score an 11 out of 10 on account of her genius.
This is all new to me. I love it. Amazing writers and actors. Made me smile the day i really needed it xx

Two gentiles are walking down a street, one asks "how's business?", The other replies "great"

My parents had a copy of this and my brother and I listened to it many times back in the 70s and 80s.
I'm 50 now so remember this in late70s early 80s playing card game 31 at grandparents drinking pop shoppe Lime Ricky and Cream Soda! Great memories
The call from long island.... well that's my late mum! We had this album as well I still remember everything!
Every Jewish household in the community I grew up with owned this album, loved it.

My family had and loved all these albums. Lou Jacobi .. Valerie Harper was the shiksa if I recall right
Yes. In reality, Valerie Harper was Catholic.
"Does that mean you're not coming?" Hilarious!
Just love the humour ..
Thank you i remember hearing it back then as a bar mitzvah child
The ‘60s was the greatest decade for comedy
*Brilliant and hysterical.*
Brilliant
The Bar Mitzvah Safari and Hello Louie sketches were played forever on the old Larry Glick Show on WBZ AM 1030

My in-laws had this album... listened to it in the 70’s ... brought back fond memories.... but then my wife cheated on me ... and them being Jewish ... blamed me... and never heard a word ....from them again
I remember Frank Gallop as Arthur Godfrey's announcer.
This is wonderful and I was so delighted to find it on RUclips.
But this is only the first half of the record I remember. Does anyone have side two?

Several of the cast members would reunite to record the 1971 album _The Jewish American Princess_ starring Bea Arthur.
so many memories!

Ethnic humor is a vital part of comedy but the word 'racist' has been so misused and abused that today's generations will never be able to get past that and it's a real shame.
what was the last line in The Jury sketch? I cant understand it.
"we shouldn't mix in" meaning "we shouldn't get involved"
I don't get some of these. Where's the joke in the one "Oy, am I thirsty....Oy, was I thirsty" skit?
You're probably not Jewish ?
I'll give it a shot: The Yiddish "kvetch" is often translated as "complain," but kvetch has a bit of enjoying getting to vent. So after he drinks the water, he'd rather kvetch instead of just saying, "Thank you." The exaggerated pessimism is the humor.
