- In 1998 JustPlanes made a video of Geneva and Basel Airports. The results were more than 50 Airlines and nearly 200 Aircraft including many airlines and aircraft that are history now!

On the one hand I’m sorry I didn’t start filming earlier but glad we did in 1990. As you can see from the 10 minute sampling here… so much has changed in term of airlines, liveries and aircraft types. @@rajudebnath6454 I prefer the eyebrow windows. I think they look cool but you just don't get them on these modern planes.

One Swiss Air air jet didn't get to the Geneva airport just in 1998...
I love watching 90s aviation videos. Not only does it remind me of my childhood, but there's also a nice mix of old and new aircraft/airlines. Still have the old tri-holers flying around but also newer planes starting to be introduced.

All these old aircrafts and liveries, in addition to the low res of this footage, make me feel old: I was 8 in 1998.
Such a great era in aviation. It was the transition in seeing old and new Airbus, Boeing, McD's, Lockheads, noisier aircraft... Its become a tad "Same, same" aircraft nowadays. So miss hearing concord taking off at LHR though. I loved watching that as a kid at the top floor Terminal 2 carpark. hehe
Al D now you see, 717, 737, 747, 757, 767, 777, 787, A220, A300, A310, A318, A319, A320, A321, A330, A340, A350, A380, A319 Neo, A320 Neo, A321 Neo, A330 Neo, MD 88, MD 90, DC 10 (cargo) MD 11 (cargo), and there will be a supersonic plane called “BOOM” releasing in 2023. There is more variety now than back then.
I flew on my last 737-200 flights in 1998 with British Airways. EDI-BHX-DUS and back during the summer. Was good to see one operating again.
I love the swissair DC.
1999 first time i flew swissair from hongkong to Zurich and i never forgot the good looking DC

I flew with Crossair AVRO RJ from Zurich - Ljubljana back in 1996. Awesome plane.
In 1998 there wasn't a lot of Airbuses like today.

I've noticed two aircrafts that flew in Brazil after this footage:
TAP CS-TIC - VARIG PP-VTW
Swissair HB-IWL - VARIG - PP-VTI
Both of the Swiss air md-11 are now ups freight planes that I had recently worked on cgn airport ups hub
Md80s,md11s, 737 classics, b747-100/200 and 757. HELL YEAH!

OMG! That was just so awesome! Good memories there with companies I flew with and loved. Still love some of those aircrafts too :-D I know that I have tons of plane spotting photos from those days, at GVA, some place, in a shoe box or two, like many of us. Filming was starting to get affordable and popular in the 90's, I think it's about the years when we went from VHS to the smaller video cassettes... Thanks for sharing!
Yes, I remember in the mid 90's I could finally buy my first camcorder on cassettes and wanted to film at the airport & do what all plane spotter do. Optic was useless (not enough zoom), quality of picture & definition was bad. I tried 2 or 3 times then quit. I never expected there were companies doing that for a living (Thanks Just Planes) & thousends of spotters all over the world who would picture airplane action in HD and put freely available on some sharing network that my computer would connect to.

I have video of plane spotting in Barajas-madrid of the year 2001, the problem is, these videos stay on VHS format, and never I converted to DVD or other type.

Most of the airlines seen in the video are flying today to Geneva with Airbus, including the Swiss New York flight operated by an a330. Back then it was more Boeing and MD dominated
In terms of working conditions for pilots the good ones are gone.. Swissair, Sabena and Olympic.
My grandpa is a retired Swissair Cpt.
25 years ago he earned more than a nowadays swiss captain in total figures. Sad those times are gone

So what made easyjet switch from the 737 to a320?
When easyjet bought the airline Go, Go already had a large order for 319s and 320s.Easyjet kept the order and added to it with time as they phased out theirs and Go's 737s
I guess it may have possibly had something to do with maintenance. The newer a320s would have been easier to maintain and an all a320 fleet would have been easier too.

Airlines from North Africa or Middle East (Air Algérie, Air Maroc, MEA) used their old fleet quite a long time to/from GVA. As seen on this video Air Algérie wa still using their steam & gauge classic 727 in lates 90's. In the late 80's MEA was still using their trusty old 707 as well. I miss the pre-Brugisser time in GVA and his stupid decision to move SR LH flying from GVA to ZRH in the 90's. Swissair 747-300 daily, late night South America and deep Africa flights from GVA (SR282 and 144 on DC-10 respectivly) and then some. I also miss exotic companies who used to come over here like Air Afrtique and their splendid DC-10 (they came once weekly on saturday morning) Oh time flies

I was born in the last year of the 80s i don't know why i'm in love with classic jets like dc-8/9/10, b707 b727 b737 classic, b747 classic, cv880/990.. etc, i don't like the modern jets that much such as a380 a330/340 b787 a350 ..
I like all the new high bypass, quieter engines and I am a huge fan of A330, 340, 350, 380. I am very impressed by Boeing 777, 787. I am not a fan of Boeing 737 and 747 at all.
