Joanna made this documentary in 2010. And she certainly is a fabulous human being, so charitable, funny, enlightening - a national treasure to the people of the UK
My question is: Who are the GENIUSES that made up this Team of EXPLORERS, TRAVELERS, PRODUCERS, WRITERS, ETC who came up with this incredible idea of filming the Nile from tip-to-tip, with Joanna Lumley? What an ABSOLUTELY UNBELIEVABLE BEAUTIFUL DOCUMENTARY!! Hands downs it’s got to be an AWARD WINNING SERIES!! It will be forever viewed, remembered, & loved!! Thank you!
I love her composure, her dignity her deep respect for different peoples and places her love of history and her humor. I hope her documentaries are circulated to schools everywhere .
I have to say, that these four episodes were quite an emotional journey for me. Ever since I was five years old, after seeing the mummies at the Field Museum of Natural History (Chicago) with my mother, I have been absolutely enamoured with Egypt and everything Egyptian. I would like to thank Joanna for such an amazing journey, along with all whom she met along the way. I have many Ethiopian friends here, so it was a delight to see where their joy and kindness originated via the people that Joanna encountered. Also, there is nothing like a home cooked Ethiopian meal, esp. w/that wonderful injera. The whole trip had me under a spell. However, the baptism was what really got me good. I cried the whole way through it. I am not a religious person, I do consider myself spiritual...and I def. felt the spirit of the priest, his actions and words coming through as if he were right next to me. I felt love....unconditional love. Thank you so very much Joanna and all involved in the making of this treasure. I don't know if I will ever make it to Egypt, but the little girl in me is quite pleased, after having found herself on this journey, even if from afar. And by the way, I do think you are truly abfab Joanna. Mucho shukrun!
Knew nothing about Joanna Lumley before watching this Nile documentary. She is an absolute gem. So open and inclusive to cultures extremely different from her own. She is brave, beautiful, elegant, smart, warm and a natural at delivering historic information in engaging documentaries. Her humor, which is delightful, is honest, vulnerable and thought-provoking. I'm a HUGE fan, now, Joanna. Your Nile documentary was almost like I was there with you. BRAVO! Now I will look for more of your work.
That was the most incredible documentary I think I have ever seen. Joanna Lumley is so inspiring, brave, beautiful and funny. Many thanks for sharing this wonderful journey x
I have watched this 4 part series twice now, and absolutely love it. So well done. Joanna is such an amazing lady and to travel with her would be a dream. Thank you Joanna Lumley for taking us on this journey with you.
JOANNA DESERVES A PRIZE FOR NOT ONLY MAKING THIS AMAZING JOURNEY, BUT FOR STAYING SO CHIPPER AND LOVELY AND STIFF-UPPER-LIP BRITISH THE WHOLE WAY!!! AWESOME, GIRL..................YOU DO ROCK! CHEERS! (I would have cried at some point........like almost there, in the middle of endless jungle, GOING THE WRONG WAY.) THANK-YOU FOR POSTING, REAL TRUTH HISTORY - AMAZING JOURNEY.
She certainly has more courage than I have, especially knowing that she is 74 years of age. I have watched her video of Egypt, Sudan, Ethiopia and now this one. Each one is a unique presentation by Joanna and have fallen in love with her natural stature and genuineness. Her gesture of leaving that carved man in his canoe was pretty symbolic & thoughtful. Grateful to you and your team for sharing such beautiful geographies.
This was a wonderful travel series with lovely Joanna. What a "jolly good sport" She's so engaging, interested to know different cultures and appreciates all the creatures she encounters. A pleasure to explore - and the trip was a precious look at places I'll probably never see, myself, with an adventurous, adaptable guide. I love learning in this way. Thanks to ALL for your creation.
As a lover of photography I must commend the photographers for this series. An absolutely extraordinary achievement. Bless you Joanna for fulfilling your Dream for all of us to share.
I am totally in awe of Joanna Lumley's persistence and courage. My admiration for her just grows. Wonderful woman, and one of the very best exploration videos ever.
Love this documentary, Joanna did amazing job of making you feel that you were there. The country is beautiful, the smiles on the people faces are so warm, and the welcome feeling is extraordinary.
This woman has no knowledge of Egypt a Greek name of what the Africans called Kemet she has absolutely no knowledge of Nile Valley Civilization, that started in Ethiopia or Abyssinia had its Zenith in Egypt or Kemet. l find her remarks about Africa offensive arrogant and ignorant.
@@AAA-be6wk you also have no education otherwise you would understand her attitude ....shes been very kind and humble but you dont see that... shes visiting those parts as an explorer not historian
I am so great full To have come across this documentary, that Joanna Lumley has so gracefully provided. Blessed to have been educated of the history and geography shared. My thanks to Joanna.🌞
What an amazing documentary! I feel sorry for those who haven't seen it! Ms.Lumley has made the best one I've ever seen on the subject of the Nile and her constant friendly 'I can do this' spirit and her humor, her personal touches, are what really makes this simply the best! I wish I had her strength and tenacity! What a woman! I doubt most younger people could have accomplished the physical & mental skills it took to do this and how many people even know that a NEW SOURCE of the Nile was recently found? I didn't! But thanks to "Patsy" one of my most beloved characters, I do now...so thank you Ms. Lumley for sharing your adventure with me...
I agree with Jeff B - what an incredibly talented, informative, humanistic and gracious guide. I keep rewinding it so as to make certain I didn’t miss anything. Kudos to you Ms. Lumley👍
I absolutely LOVE Joanna Lumley's documentaries. You can feel her passion for these projects, it's truly contagious and inspiring. Makes me want to reach for my backpack and passport and just GO.
I am 93 years old and had always been fascnated by the Nike and the history of the civilizations around it. I don't have to go. Ms. Lumley's tour has satisfied my desire. From expectation, to wonder, to awe. her travel is fascinating. The views are fantastic. Her questioning eyes and mind is just perfect. I didn't even have to get wet and no mosquito bites.
I particularly loved this episode of Joanna Lumley’s trip up the Nile - Ethiopia. I lived in Ethiopia for 2 years many years ago and it is, as she discovered, absolutely beautiful and so unexpected. It’s tragic how often the country is consumed by ethnic strife and war, but it will always emerge as an extraordinary place, full of promise, beauty, and surprise.
We are watching this in a freezing cold and snowy Japan. By far one of the best documentaries I have seen. Joanna Lumley is incredible! A latter day Michael Palin - if prettier!! My Mrs is Japanese and she says that JL's accent is clearer and easy to understand, even more than my lilting Welsh accent!! This has been a wonderful series. Thank you so much for uploading!
Joanna, I usually don't spent such a long time for watching any documentary but here i was totally absorbed to watch the end this mighty river. Seemingly i was travelling with you.
What a sumptuous and a gorgeous Reel treat that Joanna Lumley has given . Each frame of the entire series was of an amazing experience never felt before. No words can express your wonderful journey through the Nile till its Source. Thanks so much.

Kudos to Joanna and the team for this marvelous documentary... I was able to watched documentaries on Japan, "Silk Road", Siberian Journeys" but this "NileJourney" is really the most challenging... Wonderful from joanna. You made it to the dreams of prior human civilisations.she just mapped the diverse cultures and people of the Nile In my head right on the comfort of my sofa.I can see the camels of Egypt, the pyramids of the nubian, simplicity of desert life, dioceses of Ethiopia and their mountains, the troubles of swampy Ethiopian plains, the plight of southern Sudanese people, the marchison falls and the greenery of Uganda,The vastness of lake viktoria earning it recognition from Victorian civilisation as the source and to the very end in Rwanda. All I can say is thank you joanna and your amazing team. You just made me dream to embark on this wonderful journey.
