From the interviews I have read from the cast, Kaitlyn Dever's performance steals the show. They were blown away by her. I cannot wait to see her in action.
her performance is really gonna lift the show up. her character requires so much nuance and i don’t think the game was quite able to do that. being able to show more real emotion is gonna help so much
Can we also talk about how amazing the editing is for this trailer? The way it shows enough, doesn’t reveal too much, but is also edited in a way where fans of the game understand what it means is just incredible. That cut from Catherine O’Hara saying “What did you do” to finally revealing Abby at her dad’s grave really got me.
I think that Ellie scene might be a nightmare of the hospital because it looks like she's in a hospital gown and is laying on a gurney. Maybe giving her nightmares about what Joel did (or what she imagines he did, since he didn't tell her everything) will further fuel her resentment towards him. She could be seeing Joel killing Marlene in a nightmare, which would explain what looks like a blood-curdling scream.
The tv show is giving us exactly what we get from the games; emotional, raw, unfiltered storytelling with the correct camera angles, settings/locations, music, lighting, passionate acting et al. You can see the labour of love in both the tv show and games. Excellent, high quality craftsmanship!
I’ve been a diehard fan of the game/series since day 1! I really appreciate your analysis series on TLOU Part 2. Very in depth and I can tell you took your time to put the pieces together. Well done and keep it up!
I am beyond excited for this. So many people are already angry because some of the characters don't look EXACTLY like the game models, but from the two seconds we see Kaitlyn as Abby, she already FEELS like Abby. Bells FEELS like Ellie. They embody the characters, which makes them so much better in my opinion. Nobody can dampen my excitement for this next season. I'm excited to see Bella dig into revenge and how that changes somebody, Kaitlyn go through Abby's journey, and so much more.
I just had to take a moment and comment on how beautiful your music editing was with the guitar segment of Unbroken playing as you talk about sitting with how you feel about getting such a high quality adaptation of the game. You did such a great job matching the emotion of the music to what you're discussing and feeling.
To be fair, future days BARELY exists in the game version too. Neil barely justifies its existence whenever asked about it. I don't think that matters much, the song is too important to be excluded for something like that.
he said the song was unreleased but had been played live, and Joel had learned it from a youtube video😅 like yes that's a bit farfetched but it's more believable than Joel playing a song that was 10 years away from existing when the apocalypse happened. I agree the song is important though so maybe it will only be used non-diagetically (meaning we the audience will hear it but the characters won't/it won't actually play within the world)
@@tlou_explained they could always go the route saying Joel wrote the song. Might make it have an even stronger impact but idk how that works ethically lol
The pause you took at 4:50 is exactly my reaction after watching the teaser for the first time. This show and the fact that it's existing, almost feels surreal.
So hyped for Season 2. Not much moves me these days, but season 1 moved me on a fundamental level. I played a bit of the games, but never really got into this world until I watched the series. Now I'm hooked and can't get enough. I'm defo gonna need a lot more tissues on-hand this time around, as there's likely gonna be so many episodes that utterly destroy me, but I am so here for it. Even if it makes me ugly-cry. Hell... _especially_ if it makes me ugly-cry. Ugly-crying is damned *cathartic* sometimes XD
I watched the previous video u did before and now its amazing how u understood the stuff shown in the teaser ... All the characters are iconic now and seeing u react to them is so wholesome ❤❤❤
First-Bella and Pedro BOTH need those Emmy awards! Love the addition of Joel seeing a therapist. Having him doing the work/tackling his demons, and then feeling hopeful about repairing his relationship with Ellie (with the change of having that final conversation in S2), only to then have that chance violently taken away by Abby, will make it more painful I think. Same with Ellie..that’s where a lot of her anger came from, angry at herself for not forgiving Joel sooner, and losing that chance to rekindle that relationship. Knowing Bella and Pedro’s close friendship off-screen will for sure add to the heartbreak. ❤️🩹
I'm so excited to see the added context like conversations between characters and details to plot events that we didn't see in the game! :) oh, boy... I can't believe it's really almost here!!!
I absolutely love Kaitlyn Deever and she’s great casting for Abby. I have to say I’m bummed they didn’t have her at least slightly bulk up though. Abby turning her trauma into an obsession with being physically strong was a pretty big part of her character and they’re totally missing out on that. Still cannot wait though.
gosh i found your channel too late to share all the emotions i've got for this series (game ofc and show too) but omg this video is so real.... i love this so much and i ADORE your analyses, you're doing such a great job and honestly this story is so amazingly deep, it has so many moments worth talking about. i just really love how much you love it, i'm very happy to find your channel also talking about Ellie screaming scene i'm guessing it might be after her being done with Nora? if they kept the color-coding from the game (and i hope they did for the most things) it really reminds me of that "i made her talk" scene in theatre with Dina - maybe they wrote Ellie having a bigger menltal breakdown than the one she had in the game, maybe it's another scene entirely
I’m a therapist TLOU fan and I’m sooo happy to see a therapist character!!! She will be a perfect conduit for some of the flashback scenes and filling in Joel’s motivations and feelings
I think its interesting to have that scene with Joel and a therapist. Which i feel they are trying to really hit home that Joel was in a very different place mentally in part 2. A mentality that allowed him to be so trusting and what ultimately happens.
So hyped for this. Hope you make reaction videos. It's nice to have a community to watch with. My wife can't handle the show. She watched me play both games and that was good enough for her. Anyway, can't wait for S2.
My first priority yesterday was to watch the trailer. 2nd order of business was to wait for your reaction. Your honesty and passion outshines all of 'em
Oh my god the eye of Tommy when he has his moment with his wife! For "Future Days" I hope that they simply said "Fuck It with continuity, we are going to use it anyway", I will completely agree with them. PS, don't worry and take your time but can you please post your blind reaction here or share at least the link for those who don't want to do a ticktock account?
I agree with the point about Future Days. Im optimistic, since we see that Pearl Jam vinyl in Ellie's room in the trailer, so here's hoping its not just me boofing copium!
Watching the trailer, I was looking for clues, and immediately atarted ti realize that they aren't going to wait for the moment that made the game so divisive. Personally I'm ready for it and to see how ppl react. I'm in the camp that believes that was absolutely necessary to set the tone for the game, and the motivation for everything to work right. Loved part 2. Can't wait to see season 2.
Minor spoilers ahead if you haven’t played part 2 This trailer proves to me that the makeup and hair department is handling the aging aspect of Ellie really well. I saw someone say that Bella still looks too young at the beginning of the trailer, in the scene of her holding the guitar smiling with Joel, but they’re missing that’s exactly the point! That interaction takes place a few weeks/months from where the first season/game ends, her and Joel are just arriving in Jackson, she’s still a kid in that scene. In the other section of the trailer when we see her approaching Joel on his porch at night, and she’s looking at him with that cold stare, she truly looks 4-5 years older. The makeup and hair department are doing subtle and smart choices to age her up, you can really tell a stark difference if you compare both frames. I’m really just excited to see Bella kill it (lol) next season.
They really payed attention to the casting which I love. Bella looks rather young so naturally Dina & Abby do too, cause their all around the same age. Neat!
So glad I found your channel. As a huge fan of Part II who thinks it’s the best game ever made and because of the complexity of its storytelling and subtleties, I really appreciate your takes and focus on those nuances. Can’t wait for Season 2 now of the show. It’s looking like they are gonna do it right!!!
I’m so glad I found your channel. I recently finished another playthrough of part 2 to get ready before season 2 so I’ve been watching a lot of the last of us content and I’m glad yours was recommended. Love seeing the passion you have for this franchise. It’s easily my favorite gaming franchise of all time and I can’t wait to see your coverage of season 2!
i was like mmmmm idk for a while on Dever being Abby but that shot by her dad's grave sold it for me i'm like YUP THAT'S ABBY, nailed the hair especially
I have been waiting for your reaction video from as soon as I saw there was a new trailer! I really am curious as to what the narrative structure of this whole thing is going to be. It cannot be as 'Ellie's Story then Abby's Story' as the game. One of the things I most look forward to is seeing how they do that. Also, if they do the flashback in the museum, I may well just melt into nothingness. I do not know how I can maintain my shit if that happens.
I just wanted to say Thank You for making these videos, TLOU 2 is my favourite game of all time and i absolutely love your videos and thoughts about it.
Seeing Abby in front of her father's grave really gave me the impression we will definitly see the reason why she took the journey to Jackson in this season, compared to the game, where you really had to wait a long time (the end of Ellie's Day 3) to find out. I still find it reassuring, especially for viewers who have only seen season 1. I still remember when the game came out, many people didn't understand at the beginning who Abby was, why she was doing all this, how it had come to this
Also, I was just thinking as I was watching this. Granted, they can't give away spoilers for the golf tournament, but they show a lot of stuff that happens in the first half of the game, which centers around Ellie and Dina. I wonder if season 2 will, in some ways, be the first half of the game with perhaps flashbacks/past events woven in between. It could be that they're just being secretive as they were when first introducing Abby's character, but I also wouldn't be surprised since we haven't seen anything about Yara or Lev yet that we'll get the full scope and "second half" in season 3. Even if I'm so completely wrong, I'm still excited for whatever they have planned.
I have to admit, i'm worried about the pacing and structure of this season. There's no way they could fit the whole of the 2nd game into 1 season, but it seems as though we're going to get some of abby & the WLF's story in this as well which says to me that they'll be restructuring the narrative. Now, HBO has a very skilled team of writers at their disposal so perhaps they could change the narrative structure and make it work but the game to me just did it so perfectly that i don't know if we'd get the same impact if they did it the way they seem to be doing it. I still enjoyed the first season, while not thinking it was quite as strong as the game though so i'm anxious but excited to see what they bring us next year regardless.
@@bighendy4162the second game is actually going to be 3 seasons long, gives them time to fully explore the game without pacing issues as well as time for ND to finish up Part 3 so the series can follow it once it’s out
@@juancortez958 yeah i really wanted explore behind story of WLF and Seraphite. And man i wish they released TLOU faction online game.. I play 'no return' every single day, coz the gameplay is fire🔥
Just found out about this, but apparently Kaitlyn Dever’s mother passed during the filming process of this season... Gonna make the pain of Abby losing her parent feel all the more real
I'll never forget the day TLOU 2 came out, probably the worst day of my life yet when the person who I felt was gonna be my husband one day broke up with me on the platform, right before my 12h long train ride home. I had a complete mental breakdown as soon as the doors closed as I tried leaving the train again going after him. The song "future days" really stuck with me when I heard it watching the first gameplay after that horrible experience, watching the game helped me clear my head a bit at the very least.
I cant lie I was kinda waiting to see your full, raw, initial reaction to the trailer so this feels a but anticlimactic but still a good vid ❤ I absolutely cannot wait to be obsessed with tlou2 for 7 more weeks
the full reaction is on my tiktok! there's a link in the description. I couldn't upload it here cuz it kept getting flagged for copyright, even when I removed the audio!
@tlou_explained omg awesome ty!! Btw I adore your videos! If someone asked me why it's one the best games of all time I'll show them one of your vids so thank you 💜
Yeh I don't think we get Lev and Yara until s3. I think s2 is going to give us up thru Ellies Seattle days and the turn where we see the first Abby flashback. Then s3 will be Abbys Seattle + flashbacks. Then I think s4 will be farm, Santa Barbara, and epilogue.
02:16 i think you are right... i do believe they will tease this stand off to be ingrained in the viewer's mind only to go back to it in season 3 you know when.
I think it makes sense that Abby isn’t jacked because of how small Bella’s Elle still is. Like maybe Abby is just stronger from her being older, faster and taller. I think Kaitlyn looking like a older Bella IS intentional to make them both doppelgängers of each other and moral foils like you can definitely imagine in another universe where Kaitlyn plays Elle, but just someone who’s further along in her life. I think when we shift to the point of view of following Abby as she’s now trying to kill Elle it’s going to feel like a character who’s killing herself her mirror image.
4:01 Interestingly, they aren't wearing masks here. So seems as if we aren't going any kind of spores route for what happens at the end of this underground sequence. Can't imagine it would be hard to adapt Ellie getting scratched or cut or w/e, and revealing her immunity that way.
if I remember correclty, they didnt implement the spore thing in season 1 because they didnt want the actors to wear masks all the time. So there are no spores in TV TLOU
I don’t think I have ever really looked forward to yet also dreaded the release of a show this much in my life. I know it’s gonna break my heart but I know it’s going to be really good.
If they are faithful to the game, tv audiences are not ready, part 2 is devastating. Also Nirvana’s in Utero in the background behind Pedro at 1:33, pretty cool.
Oh yeah, I never thought about what they would do about Future Days, since in the show’s timeline the song was never written. I’m curious to see how they’ll handle that. The trailer looks so good!!!
Not sure if there’s a there there, but I’d love an in depth look at Santa Barbara for one of your analysis videos. I know eventually you’ll speak on the ending, but I think a look at the location and how it’s spoken about/presented might be interesting. It feels very mysterious to me and also a little other worldly/whimsical almost.
I'm pretty sure the shot of ellie screaming could be joel ptsd when they are on the farm, idk if that would be in this season though since they are splitting it
If they don’t use Future Days I’m writing a complaint, I’m telling you. That’s literally what poetic licenses are for! Jokes aside, I really do believe they’re including it, the song is a super important point to the story, the text is too fitting, the sound is grounding for Ellie, they can’t exclude Future Days just because technically it didn’t come out yet. I’m confident we can make this exception to the timeline. Ps: loved your comment over the realism of Jesse’s build lol
It really seems like they're doing the whole Part 2 in one season which surprised me. Unless the porch scene is bait. But it really has to be saved until the end for maximum impact.
I just watched your essay about the structure of part two and how it is essential to the story. Do you think the show will follow the same story structure or will it not be as easy to digest in a TV format? Will season 2 follow Joel and Ellie and season 3 follow Abby and lev? I'm so nervous for this show 😅
I'm almost positive someone else has already posted about this, but I'll toss it out there anyway. Though Future Days may not have been in the game (at least from my recollection), it very likely was going to be at some stage, since there is a recording of Troy Baker performing it in the voice of Joel. (I was also fortunate enough to see Troy Baker perform the song as Joel live last year!)
The problem is that in this version the world ended in 2003 and the song hadn't been written yet so how does Joel know a song that never existed. In the game timeline the world ends in 2013 so the reason he knows the song is because he heard it at a Pearl Jam show and remembered it. A shaky story but not as unlikely as singing a song that never was. The real explanation is Neil loves Pearl Jam, likes how the lyrics relate to the game and doesn't care about timelines or logic he just loves the song.
So I have two theories of the Ellie screaming, could be her waking up in like a Jackson Clinic after the golf tournament scene which might be most likely. Or could be her waking from a nightmare after encountering Nora to show more how it affected her. More my reasoning is how she was bruised and injured and shaken after to begin with.
It’s not going to be his therapist. Joel would never go to one. It’s going to be his girlfriend, the one that got cut from the final version of the game. Why would Neil not want to have her in when she got cut out of the game.
At about 1:15 minutes into the trailer the soundtrack devolves into the EXACT same tinnitus sound that happens in the game during the golf scene.
Very common golfing injury
Thays when I started tearing up lol
Omg i knew ittt I recognized the audio
I noticed that immediately. It gave me goosebumps.
and it's the same ringing sound that Ellie hears when she found out that she killed pregnant Mel
The shot of Abby at the grave gives me chills. I can feel her grief and her rage just from that split second.

@@Allyphant2909 I was skeptical at first, but I'm looking forward to her portrayal.

She lost her mom around when filming began so I'm sure we are witnessing her real grief too
I didnt realize this untili now, but its taking the grave scene from the game and giving it to the other side!

'the golf tournament' lmaoo
I laughed my ass off at that despite being just as traumatized as everyone else when it happened in the game lmao.

3:56 Is this part after Joel dies? I think it is because Tommy has the wound from being pistol-whipped
Omg u might be right😮
I have to admit, i'm worried about the pacing and structure of this season.
I heard they made it into 2 seson
@@bighendy4162the second game is actually going to be 3 seasons long, gives them time to fully explore the game without pacing issues as well as time for ND to finish up Part 3 so the series can follow it once it’s out
i’m guessing season 2-2025, season 3-2027, season 4-2029 and season 5-2031 and im guessing part 3 will release 2030
@@juancortez958 yeah i really wanted explore behind story of WLF and Seraphite.
And man i wish they released TLOU faction online game.. I play 'no return' every single day, coz the gameplay is fire🔥
@@bighendy4162 fr tho 🔥
Just found out about this, but apparently Kaitlyn Dever’s mother passed during the filming process of this season... Gonna make the pain of Abby losing her parent feel all the more real
my only college class for the day started a minute before it released.
The song "future days" really stuck with me when I heard it watching the first gameplay after that horrible experience, watching the game helped me clear my head a bit at the very least.
yayayayayaya this is the reaction video I was looking for. Well done.
Love the video, been watching your channel grow for a while now :D
Cannot wait to watch season 2 with you next year!
If someone asked me why it's one the best games of all time I'll show them one of your vids so thank you 💜
I'm thinking Bella screaming is the sheep scene in the game. But yeah, it could be her waking up after the golf tournament.
Excellent break down. Just found your channel and I’m a new subscriber now
That is an amazing shirt!
The people with the IQ of a peanut talking about Abby be like:
2:32
Re: Jesse's build--many people can do that with a pretty casual amount of effort, especially since we only see him from the waist up. 😆
*JOHNNY BRAVO INTENSIFIES*
i’m shitting myself 😞
Also Nirvana’s in Utero in the background behind Pedro at 1:33, pretty cool.
i think ellie screaming could also be when she gets bit cuz she’s gonna have to since there’s no spores
On TLOU day I only expect a Season 2 trailer a month before that’s all i expected
Oh yeah, I never thought about what they would do about Future Days, since in the show’s timeline the song was never written. I’m curious to see how they’ll handle that. The trailer looks so good!!!
Honestly looking Forward to seeing Kaitlyn Dever portrayal as Abby ever since they announced it, i cant wait.👍💯🔥
practice your golf swings everybody!
I think we're going to get snippets of the porch scene throughout the season and into season 3.
I'm pretty sure the shot of ellie screaming could be joel ptsd when they are on the farm, idk if that would be in this season though since they are splitting it
I've been waiting for your reaction ever since it dropped lol
If they don’t use Future Days I’m writing a complaint, I’m telling you. That’s literally what poetic licenses are for!
Jokes aside, I really do believe they’re including it, the song is a super important point to the story, the text is too fitting, the sound is grounding for Ellie, they can’t exclude Future Days just because technically it didn’t come out yet. I’m confident we can make this exception to the timeline.
Ps: loved your comment over the realism of Jesse’s build lol
Thank you! 🙏
Don´t you think the more the show varies from the game, the best it is? Bill story was flawless in the show.
I wonder if bella screaming is like a flashback or the joel scene😢 but who knows
It really seems like they're doing the whole Part 2 in one season which surprised me. Unless the porch scene is bait. But it really has to be saved until the end for maximum impact.
They just might use future days in the show, gotta remember its still a fictional world, and no other song would feel right in that scene
I think the scene where Ellie is screaming is where they did the chemical burn on her arm…
I just watched your essay about the structure of part two and how it is essential to the story. Do you think the show will follow the same story structure or will it not be as easy to digest in a TV format? Will season 2 follow Joel and Ellie and season 3 follow Abby and lev? I'm so nervous for this show 😅
I AM SO EXCITED AAAHHH
Abby is going to be amazing. So excited for Catherine O’Hara
Why dont u post the original reaction?
So I have two theories of the Ellie screaming, could be her waking up in like a Jackson Clinic after the golf tournament scene which might be most likely. Or could be her waking from a nightmare after encountering Nora to show more how it affected her. More my reasoning is how she was bruised and injured and shaken after to begin with.
It’s not going to be his therapist. Joel would never go to one. It’s going to be his girlfriend, the one that got cut from the final version of the game. Why would Neil not want to have her in when she got cut out of the game.
love your shirt...where did you get it?

I cannot wait for your analyses!
I admit, I'm most fearful of the obnoxious fan response to this.
is this games of thrones you killed me

Love how happy you are watching this, I feel the same way. I’m so excited for S2!
