Mark Lettieri On Playing Life, Looping & His Travel Pedalboard - That Pedal Show
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 26 июл 2024
- In this episode we are delighted to welcome the wonderful Mark Lettieri to the show! Mark is highly loved and respected musician based in Fort Worth, Texas, who has built a stellar reputation via his work in Snarky Puppy, Fearless Flyers and his own solo work.
We met Mark back in January at the NAMM show and fixed a plan for him to drop into the TPS studio on his next trip to Europe. Thusly, he stepped off a plane from Dallas and into a car to Somerset!
We talk a little bit about Mark’s background in music, his uncanny ability for groove and rhythm and of course the pedalboard he flies with. Plus a little cameo from Joey Landreth at the end - yep he was here that day too. Quite the day!

Mark Lettieri - one of the nicest guys in music for sure. Years ago I posted a clip to Insta in honor of a nearby Snarky Puppy show that night. Mark saw it and left me a ticket at the door. Definitly the coolest thing that's ever happened in my otherwise boring life!
That is exceptionally cool!!
That last jam... Landreth vs Lettieri. Who won? WE, the audience, did. Chord progressions for days, baby. Holy crap.
That was really big!!!
They really started clicking about 2 minutes in. Outstanding session.
I just kept waiting for one of them to actually start playing Neon
I think the world needs a Landreth & Lettieri album.
YYYYYEEEESSSSSSSS!!!! TPS is finally getting funkier!
Next: Cory Wong (please!)
Cory Wong's explanation of how to turn your wrist to cartilage changed the way I play funk. What a man.
@@smwatson1512me too!
Yes please
“This is super chewy and this is chewy, it’s double the chew so it’s like the ultimate granola” - Mark Lettieri (2019)
That joke drew us much comedic response from Dan and mick as the ones that preceded and followed it.....none
The Lettieri Landreth project. Looking forward to their first album!
This is the greatest TPS episode of all time.
That jam at the end was just SICK. Holy hell, man.
Mark's overdrive pedal, Melody, is post OD EQ. The EQ specs are:
Band 1- 100 Hz
Band 2- 200 Hz
Band 3- 400 Hz
Band 4- 800 Hz
Band 5- 1.5K
Band 6- 3.2K
Truly one of THE BEST, not just guitar players, but musicians around today. One of the greats for sure.
Although I wish he mentioned the blend knob on his Grosh. Thing can get him so great 'tele' tones
Clapton once said Mayer is a true master on guitar and that he doesn't know how good he actually is. I think it's same case with Marc. Thanks TPS, the artist shows are your prime!
Mark is one of those guys that could rock up 5 minutes before any gig of any genre, and absolutely nail it.
Mark’s Tore impression had me dying! Spot on! 😂
Joe Peck on the Electric Dart.
Peck Joe on the Dart Electric
You need to interview Simon and get into his love for music and how he does things. “The man behind the camera”
Joey Landreth AND Mark Lettieri?!! An embarrassment of riches! Fantastic!
Landreth, S. Wilson and now Lettieri... Really love your show!
Oh my giddy aunt! Lettieri AND Landreth together?!? Can we get a 50-track quadruple album from these two ASAP?!? Sheesh.
Oh man when he flipped to that bridge pickup with some dirt... It's a good thing I have a desk job
*rofl* Nice One :o)
The episode I've always wanted! Thank you!
Joey and Mark playing together... I'm almost crying!
That first loop and watching everyone bob up and down is the ultimate testiment to the power of rhythm guitar playing.
I think Mark is right: it's easier to inherit the funk than to try to learn it.
I don’t believe it is physically possible to listen to Mark play and not be moving some part of the body along with him, such is the strength of the groove force in him. Thank you so much for getting him on.
Praise the lord. You all are the only reason I get up in Friday mornings sometimes. I love the 60+ min episodes.
Also, WHOA that Tore impression @45:03 is SPOT ON!!! Well done. haha
Saw Snarky Puppy at the Albert Hall last night as a direct result of seeing Mark here. A long way from what I would normally go and see; really enjoyed it so thanks for the introduction to new music. 🙏
That ending jam was RIDICULOUS! We mere mortals just stand and watch in awe, and then go play the kazoo or something...
Jeezus........ his Timing is unreal. It was an Hour of excellence in Every way. That Jam with Joey was breathtaking.
Wow !!! What a treat at the end !!
I mean, the Mark interview on it's own was great ... And then the teaboy sits in and the whole thing goes crazy ...!
Wow! What a treat at the end.
Mark Lettieri is a class act
Two of my favourite guitar players jammin together at the end. You out did yourselves boys. Now to try and become the Landreth Lettieri musical baby... Will check back in in 400 years :p
Never heard of Mark until today and I think he’s the player I would most like to be. Swing, groove, funk and melody.
Less than ten minutes in and they've mentioned vulfpeck as well as snarky puppy, very happy day today
The most exciting guitarist right now, Mark is incredible!!!
"People Don't Play with People Anymore", great commentary on the world we live in
Lol at Mick's face as Mark continuously talks over the reverb trails :')
Well spotted, I thought the same thing. Still the audio sounds great.
That groove with Mark and the coffee guy with the slide is the best improv'd improv I have ever heard. Gobsmacking stuff Mark and [Joey]. And cudos to Mick and Dan for providing the forum to bring these guys together
I've listened a few times now.....can you bottle it and sell it??
He makes me realize I need to spend some extra time on my rhythm chops. He's so good!
Just wow... the groooooooooove.
I admit that I had never heard of Mark Lettieri before watching this video. Impressed!
Omg like you didn't have the best musicians already!!! Mark is a groovebox and also does metal!!! Keep up and bring more Snarky Puppies..
The jam @ the end left me totally VERKLEMPT
Joey and Mark. Not just playing the guitar. Playing music on the guitar. Bravo!
I was watching this as a random show, out of the corner of my ear. Lettieri started playing, and just stopped and listened. He is so In The Pocket. wow. And, yes, Snarkey Puppy? Oh, no wonder. The Puppy is just killer. Mind-blowingly good.
I actually attended the mentioned gig in Rotterdam with a couple of friends (dabbling amateur musicians, like me), and enjoyed it immensely, as well as a number of Snarky Puppy gigs in The Netherlands the last couple of years as well.
Aimable guy, and an incredible artist. I recommend his albums very much.
Great to see him on the show! Cheers guys!
Ha! This is awesome!! Mark is always a supreme hang. BTW - anyone clicking thumbs down can fight me. Cut it out.
What a JAM
With that 6 band EQ, the Melody might be the most versatile overdrive pedal ever. It’s like an inexpensive version of the Automotone that fits on your board better.
The jam at the end. Done. Some of the absolute best playing I’ve heard. I had “that moment” when you ask, “why bother continuing my practice any longer?” I’ll continue to reference that jam for so many years. Great episode, great playing from everyone, super inspired. Thanks.
...the art of improv at it's finest!
Is this like a Marvel Movie..........making sure we watch to the end to catch the surprise jam at the end.
Awesome 👍👍👍👍
Can’t wait to see Mark and the guys in November
Recognize: A Grammy award winning artist on TPS.
E: I didn't realize this was from weeks ago. I actually went to see him in Rotterdam!
Loop off with Mark and Danish Pete!!
Well this is depressing...apparently none of my guitars have those notes or rhythms in them. Sad.
LOL
You're not the only one😢
Hmmm, are you sure you spent enough money on gear? Pretty sure that’s how it works
it doesn’t work that way dude, you gotta find a pedal that sounds like that
just buy a 40 € Donner Triple Looper like I did a minute ago, and you have 3x 30 minutes recording/funky chucking time...the purchasing obviously lead me to Lettieri...
Such a great episode! Incredibly humbling hearing such a talented musician talk about how they don't focus on "reading music" and it's all just about the music. I found myself tapping along at so many different times!
That end jam... whoa. I could listen to that all day.
Oh man, that jam with Joey at the end... Pure gold boys, pure gold.
You didn't just raise the bar, you shot it into orbit!
Yes! Mark is a monster player.
The Description says: Enjoy the Episode ... Well that´s exactly what I did! Great Episode, awesome Players. Marc seems to be a great guy. Love to watch him play
The end was the grooviest jam ever! absolutely epic!
This whole episode is great, but my god the end is amazing!!!!
Best jam i´ve ever heard from a coffee-maker and a public-relation-guy. ;) Awesome! 54:52 Thanks and greetz from Andalusia.
Anyone who hasn’t caught Mark playing in the Bob Reynolds Guitar Band on RUclips is missing a total treat. 6xsomgs from an awesome live set - well recorded too. The musicianship is off the scale. That jam with JL at the end of this show was beyond special! What a show!
Oh Lord, yes. Can't Wait For Perfect is a fantastic track and I LOVE Mark's solo in it. Also funny when he steps on his OD and the volume is turned down too low.
I've been mancrushing on this guy, Corey Wong, and Joe Dart for a few months now! So awesome! And that jam at the end...mind blown!!
What a lovely reward at the end for watching the whole interview!
This was probably my favourite TPS episode ever, and I've enjoyed plenty. Fun throughout the whole video then a perfect ending. Thank you guys
Mark is a groove machine, Prince would love him
...and then 54:50 happens and the world seems right(er) that it was moments before 54:50 - thanks TPS for the Landreth/Lettieri session!
Man! Two of my fav guitarist. Landreth and Lettieri! 🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻
Wow! Just checked out Snarky Puppy thanks for the heads up, stunning! Hahaha talking of heads up, you're all bobbing heads around to Marks loop, fab!
I'm betting Mark sees a spike in album sales. That guy is a click track. Also, Joey, you are melting my head, sir.
Mark, King of Baritone.
Wow. This show just keeps getting better and better. Two guitar players I hadn't heard before in two episodes! Both have inspired me to keep going with my focus on playing electric once again after so many years playing acoustic.
So talented
That jam at the end was AMAZING
J.Rockett Melody Overdrive + MXR Phase 95 = "double the chew; it's like the ultimate granola". Best quote ever.
Wow Joey and Mark jamming unbelievable
Never in the history of youtube was the phrase "watch until the end" more appropriate
yes i'm watching old TPS shows, i have a pedal board to build :)
I had no idea who this guy was until this show...now on my 3rd time watching. His rhythm is so clean, precise and different from what you normally hear. He is also just a really entertaining dude. Great show
What a guy!
Oh boy, what an amazing episode! Mark is one of my favourite players out there. Amazing sense of rhythm, great licks and seems like a great guy to hang with.
I wonder how many people bailed out towards the end and missed the 54:50 MASTERCLASS from Lettieri and Landreth which nobody was expecting? Timing, structure, and LISTENING to each other. What a joy! There's an album in there somewhere guys..... just call it "Elle"?
Bonkers. Anyone that thinks guitar is over isn't conscious. That was amazing and fresh. One of your best episodes ever. Thanks.
Funking great episode, thanks so much. What a nice fella, not to shabby on the geet either. Ben Eller mentioned Snarky Puppy ages ago and I didn’t follow it up. Whatamistekadamekka!
...and Joey!!!, Almost in tears now
I dont know what I just listened to but it was Awesome.
YESSSS!!!! Saw Snarky Puupy live back in Leeds a few years back, THE greatest live expereince I've ever been to. :-)
'Deep' is absolutely stunning. Great episode again, what a treat. Mark is a force in his own right. I've loved Snarky Puppy for ages now. Stunning clean tones, right up my street.
Guys, please get Mark back on the show. The reasons are two-fold; I could watch you three talk all day. And equally, I could stare at his new PRS all day.
Best ever!!! After a hard days work this is comfort for the soul. TPS forever! :)
Awesome show. Mark is an amazing player, and to get him together with Joey Landreth was just incredible. Two such knowledgeable, lyrical players together is special. Good karma being posted today, as well. If Dr. John heard that on his way to music heaven, he surely smiled. Cheers.
My 2 favourite guitar players ripping it up at the end. Thanks so much for doing this! Pure joy.
Man, this is one of my all time TPS Episodes ...great tone and talk and just super fun to watch ! and by the way, Can we get a hooray for Joeys Tone at the Intern brings coffee Jam ;) brilliant playing
I first heard Mark's name when J. Rockett talked about his signature pedal at NAMM. Admittedly, I thought, "who the hell is that?" but never went on to find out. I'm following him online now thanks to this episode. Great player, but what really sealed the deal was his impression of Tore from TC.
Great episode gentleman.
May the funk be with you!!! Hell yeah!!!!
Incredible episode. Lots of laughs and great jams. Mark Lettieri is such a funny guy and his looper jams are amazing. But the jam with Joey Landreth is unbelievable !!
If Landreth and Lettieri do not form a super group that highlights their incredible funkiness, the world will suck.
A minute in and I'm already laughing. Just saw Mark tear it up with Snarky Puppy in Seattle a few weeks back. What a beast. Thanks for the video, guys.
EPIC!!! Thank you for putting these two together for a jam....
