- While sea kayaking around parts of the Outer Hebrides, Scotland, my friend and I found these beautiful creatures feeding on the rich plankton life in these clean waters. Basking sharks are amazing creatures, gentle and peaceful.
Sadly, they are hunted by the greedy, supplying the Eastern desire for sharks fin, This should not be allowed. Leave these beautiful creatures to live in peace.
I feel so lucky to have travelled in my small craft to the places where these sharks live and shared a few minutes with them. Животные
Basking sharks are gorgeous creatures. Massive but harmless. ❤️❤️❤️
Harmless? I bet if it wanted to it would tail whip that kayak and punt him like a 50yd field goal then grab his broken body and drag him down a few hundred yards deep for around 10 minutes before finally letting him go because it realized it’s harmless.
@@TheBigToe69 Except the fact that it's never happened.
Very dangerous shark, the Basking. My friend Krill and I went swimming when it attacked. RIP Krill.
🌴😂🌴
Sorry for your loss but to be attacked your friend Krill must of been acting like a right Plank(ton)
Marvellous creature's, and it's great that the waters of the Outer Hebrides are clean enough to provide these sharks with such a rich abundance of planton.
What good fortune to be able to get that close! Jaw-dropping to know that these can get nearly half-again larger than the big one (rare). Beautiful video!!
Thank you
Very cool and great music choice!
The basking sharks shown in this video are peaceful creatures. Their food is the tiny plankton they filter out of the water as they swim with their enormous, open, toothless mouth. Their food is shown at 0.50 to 1.15 on the video. Too many viewers have the wrong idea about these plankton eating sharks. Big mouth, yes, jaws, NO.
And how do you recognize a shark under the water?if you get eaten or not?
Perfectly placid surface
Behemoth basking sharks
What wondrous surprise.
@@doom3871 It's up to you to educate yourself on how to tell sharks apart. There are some very subtle differences you will notice if you are in or out of the water. Predation attacks are very rare. You will see that when researching them as well. Be careful though because once you start, you will not want to stop. 👍😉
What a beautiful encounter with a Basking Shark. A lot of people will think Great White as soon as they see the dorsal fin. In Scotland you have more chance of being attacked by the Loch Ness Monster then a Great White!
Thank you Steve. It's good to get a sensible statement.
The guy is Sydney that was eaten by a great white had the same thoughts probably
@@doom3871 the key word there is "Scotland"
Outstanding! Beautiful encounter.
Beautiful gentle creatures. Nice vid!
Awsome, huh. They certainly are majestic
Only from a big ferry. Yes the are awesome but huge. 🦈🐋
Beautiful video. Thank you for uploading. ❤️❤️
So lucky! I would love to see a Basking Shark. They're so awe inspiring
Beautiful kayaks! It would have taken me few seconds to realize that it is a basking shark, but those few seconds would have been insane, to say the least.
That rush shoots through your chest and your heart misfires hard AF! that's the horrific feeling of "Oh sht! I'm completely helpless floating around in this flimsy light weight watercraft and there's a carnivorous monster cruising nearby that could effortlessly launch me into the water."
"Oh,It's a big friendly sea creature FFS! Excuse me while I finished my coronary!"
Yep! Basking Shark the first one was about 8m (25ft) long. The small one a mere 5m (16ft).
Such gentle giants.
outcanoe
dougoutcanoe This was FABULOUS! I knew something wasn't right. Idk why but I just assumed great white again because thats what you usually see when its titled "big shark". But as I watched I thought no way! They are not acting like GWs at all. And the fins were strange. Like 3 together all the time. Then I saw the gills. I was thrilled! I love these guys! That mouth and the way they eat. So gentle too. I didn't even know there was a place you could see and get that close to them! Have to admit I thought you were nuts in those kayaks that are almost putting you IN the water....but I thought there were going to be GWs or even bulls or tigers. But basking? Wow. You are so lucky! So sad that another beautiful non-dangerous to humans creature has to be harrassed and killed because they are easy and gentle. What about whale sharks? Do you get to see them up close? Another absolute fav of mine. So gorgeous and huge gentle giants! Beluga whales? Funny like dolphins. Love their beautiful white color. There is another shark-is it the frilled? That is no danger but extremly rare....lemon sharks are kind of docile too I guess. Anyway I know this was years ago but thankyou! Nice popup surprise for me!🐾😍🐳🐬
😱Wow!!!! That’s huge. It’s just cruising along. What a video! Thank you.
That's one of the biggest Basking Sharks EVER , the size of it's fins is ENORMOUS , must be at least 25-26 feet(8 meters)long , at least !
I estimated 8m long and its fin was taller than me when it brushed past me. Holding my paddle out of its way the dorsal fin brushed my knuckles. An exciting time. Really thrilled by a close encounter.
What a peaceful spectacel! Wonderful 🕉
How beautiful...💕
Basking shark, nice.
simply beautiful
What a beautiful large basking shark
Beautiful fish.
Good job, you are blessed for sharing this encounter. What a beautiful thing to see!
That is so freaking cool
Beautiful sharks..........
So, I’m shark ignorant....the moment I saw that enormous dorsal fin I would have been paddling for my life and my kayak would have become the largest and most expensive paper weight I’ve ever purchased. 😳🤷♀️😂😵
Lol
Me too! They might not hurt me, but as they say, they might make me hurt myself trying to get away! Amazing creatures.
Awesome!
Yes i did.Thank you
Perfect water skiing water... smooth
My God. Any time you see the tail and dorsal fin sticking out of the water at the same time you can clearly see how large or small the creature is. That thing looked absolutely massive right from the start. Amazing how curious and dosile they can be when unsure of what they see. Almost like orcas at times. Apex predators acting like domesticated pets... luckily this shark was one of the most majestic creatures you can see in the oceans
Awe a baskin shark....how lucky to get to see one so close!
Good video
Funny how it held up the head up , like that. Nice video btw.
Bye the size of that dorsal fin I can tell you for a fact that was a giraffe
Jesus christ man
Lmbo good 1 😂😂
You ocean kayaker are awsome! But I love my sit on top 120 pdl fishing kayak, with all my accessories and 3hp electric motor. I do paddle and pedal when I get to my spots, for exercise, or covering water and scenery on large lakes and resevoirs. But don't know what I'd do with that monster cruising around me. Atleast he seemed to be in a good mood, and left you alone. 🙏 😎
Gran vídeo muy lindo
Concur, basking shark. No danger what so ever.
Bravo!
It's a Megalodong!!
Barsking shark very nice
Basking shark
Hypnotic 😍
Looks pretty darn big. Any idea what type of shark it could be? Supposidly alot of great white shark have been spotted on the west coast
thehewguy it was a basking shark. I believe they're the second biggest species compared to the whale shark which is the biggest. Lucky guy in the kayak needs to say a prayer thanking God that it was just a basking shark & not an Great White😂 ku
Y
😮
Anyone elsr wondering if this type of shark was ever mistaken as a "loch ness" type monster?
The Jaws theme song would start to play in my head and I would literally just die then and their!
Why its a harmless baskin shark lol
Anyone else think "wholy great white!!" When you first saw the dorsal and tail fins sticking out of the water? I literally thought it was a great white stalking him. Then I saw that trademark nose stick out of the water and made a sigh of relief
The dorsal fins are very different. I imagine it would be very alarming for people who don't know. 😱😂
Harmless Basking Sharks
Holy molly that's friggin huge 😲😲😲
The music scared me more than the sharks. Wow.
Your comment made me smile.
I have only been close to a Basking shark around 1965 from a fishing boat near Largs,i was convinced it was a hammerhead and told everyone i had seen a hammerhead shark,i really thought it was due to the wide head, well i was around 8 years old so my friends were just as convinced as me.:)
It is lovely, the things that children come up with.
Sorry i posted twice the first one never showed...i will erase it,but yes,i was a huge shark fanatic 10 years before "jAWS"almost wiped out great whites, not until i found outmany years later that we had sharks in Scotland i realised my mistake looking down at it and seeing the wide head, but unforgettable 50 years later.
Takara they are very frienly i used to and still go in the ocean sometimes but you know they mean bussness
its a basking shark.... huge and harmless :)
Thirty six seconds in to this video, I'm sure it's a Basking Shark.
The REAL miracle is the fact that the seas there are actually calm.
That’s huge
It's a basking shark. Harmless.
I seen that big ass dorsal fin & if I was in that kayak I would have shit all over myself!! I would have thought Great White!! Glad to see it was a basking shark! That's why I don't go into the ocean!!
same here lol oh yeah we're heroes!!
They're ALL great whites!!! All of them damnit!
Basking shark...harmless
A goldfish is more of a threat
That is why I love land. I would of had a massive heart attack if I was in that kayak
Mi english josehp its all natural without any effort or schoolclo whatsoever and i do know about sharks very much because i used to go in the ocean a lot and encounter them they may not attack very often but they are very good at stalking or curios i like it anyways. they are special .
what a beautiful basking shark. how big do you think she is?
The first shark was about 8m or 26ft long. It gave me and my friend such a wonderful experience. The second shark was only 5m or 16ft long. Still an impressive sighting.
Hello from Germany
Hi Christopher I hope you enjoyed watching my video.
Wie Gehts
Christopher Meier Hello Germany !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

They swim with thier heads up out of the water like that?
It seemed quite happy head up.
Its cause their mouths are wide open to feed and filter the plankton and they're quite close to the surface, if they're not feeding then no :) such cool creatures!
lucky its a basking shark and not white or tiger or bul or amako cause that could be scary when on akayak .
Nix on the music!
Great whites dorsal isn’t floppy like that and you can see it’s nose sticking out cause it’s mouth is open gentle giant
We’re was that
😱
And..... Cue the Jaws music.....
Harmless or not, I think my anxiety would go 0-60 in a second, just being that close to such a large creature, but hopefully I'd calm down an beagle to see the beauty, but that answer is yet to be knownlol
My excitement started with seeing the magnificent dorsal fin. I paddled gently to be nearer to the shark and stopped for several minutes to watch and experience the huge creature. It was a wonderful experience. I hope you get your chance. While camping on a 10 day canoe trip in Algonquin, I had the pleasure of a young bull moose walking into camp, view here. www.flickr.com/gp/dougoutcanoe/7829uJ
Let’s design a kayak where the front sticks out of the water really high, same with the back, but let’s put the operator at sea level.😳
I know they are not man-eaters but that would scare the hell out of me.
I know a canoe is big enough!!!?Yerrrr be okay
Basking
Basking shark? Not a great white for sure
Oh, it’s a Basking Shark. Time now to go ashore and change my shorts.
It's just a baby!
My first thought was a Megaladoon
You need a bigger boat
01:27 holy fuùuuuuü......
I have to admit; I haven't watched this yet. But it passed in my recommendations and I misread the channel name
"Big shark encounter..m2ts" by "doughnutcanoe" and my immediate reaction was "Well you're asking for it then"
Sorry dougoutcanoe channel, I misread your name xD
Meeting these big fish was an amazing experience. Sea kayaking gives so much to look at and to do. I have paddled most of the West coast of Scotland. Sadly, I have had to give up sea kayaking because of illness. I still go canoeing on lakes and rivers where the animals are not so big. Unless the Loch Ness Monster lives on.
it's not a great white...you can tell by the dorsal and the way it keeps its head up above the surface of the water...Its a big harmless Basking Shark...no danger what so ever
Squalo elefante credo. Era a caccia di plancton credo, perché teneva il muso fuori dall'acqua, si vedeva la bocca aperta...
Bocou de chance pour ne pas avoir étais "bouscule" à l'eau. C un long Squale.. 💦🇨🇵
I will always cheer for you in Korea I'm looking forward to a great video. Have a nice day.
Yes those sickoes needs to leave them alone!!
Why is he wearing a raincoat
Is this a Baskin shark
Esse comportamento parece que ele está pedindo ajuda não é normal
What's with the morgue music.
is this real?!
ABSOLUTELY. I filmed this while sea kayaking around the Outer Hebrides, Scotland, UK.
Your Shfinkter muscle before encounter O
And After .
They're not so gentle if you mess with their wives.
You silly man
that was a whale shark, no danger to man!
Similar to Whale Shark but a smaller Basking Shark. Plankton eaters.
That's no white pointah!
What do you mean?
LOL. That's the aussie way of saying great white shark. I was just kidding around
If it was a GWS I would not have happy just floating there in a kayak!!!
He's an Aussie...English is a second language to them...right behind Aussie Gibberish!!! If forced...many of them CAN speak English...but in their natural state they prefer not to!!!
megalodon confirmed
I would have added a jumpscare before the ending credits
That's some GADAMN jaws shit if there ever was any! What's in its mouth .....half a boat dock? I'd be creating a 5' tall rooster tail behind from paddling so hard
Don't eat me please
Muito estranho
