  • While sea kayaking around parts of the Outer Hebrides, Scotland, my friend and I found these beautiful creatures feeding on the rich plankton life in these clean waters. Basking sharks are amazing creatures, gentle and peaceful.
Sadly, they are hunted by the greedy, supplying the Eastern desire for sharks fin, This should not be allowed. Leave these beautiful creatures to live in peace.
I feel so lucky to have travelled in my small craft to the places where these sharks live and shared a few minutes with them.

Harmless? I bet if it wanted to it would tail whip that kayak and punt him like a 50yd field goal then grab his broken body and drag him down a few hundred yards deep for around 10 minutes before finally letting him go because it realized it’s harmless.

The basking sharks shown in this video are peaceful creatures. Their food is the tiny plankton they filter out of the water as they swim with their enormous, open, toothless mouth. Their food is shown at 0.50 to 1.15 on the video. Too many viewers have the wrong idea about these plankton eating sharks. Big mouth, yes, jaws, NO.

@@doom3871 It's up to you to educate yourself on how to tell sharks apart. There are some very subtle differences you will notice if you are in or out of the water. Predation attacks are very rare. You will see that when researching them as well. Be careful though because once you start, you will not want to stop. 👍😉

dougoutcanoe This was FABULOUS! I knew something wasn't right. Idk why but I just assumed great white again because thats what you usually see when its titled "big shark". But as I watched I thought no way! They are not acting like GWs at all. And the fins were strange. Like 3 together all the time. Then I saw the gills. I was thrilled! I love these guys! That mouth and the way they eat. So gentle too. I didn't even know there was a place you could see and get that close to them! Have to admit I thought you were nuts in those kayaks that are almost putting you IN the water....but I thought there were going to be GWs or even bulls or tigers. But basking? Wow. You are so lucky! So sad that another beautiful non-dangerous to humans creature has to be harrassed and killed because they are easy and gentle. What about whale sharks? Do you get to see them up close? Another absolute fav of mine. So gorgeous and huge gentle giants! Beluga whales? Funny like dolphins. Love their beautiful white color. There is another shark-is it the frilled? That is no danger but extremly rare....lemon sharks are kind of docile too I guess. Anyway I know this was years ago but thankyou! Nice popup surprise for me!🐾😍🐳🐬

That thing looked absolutely massive right from the start. Amazing how curious and dosile they can be when unsure of what they see. Almost like orcas at times. Apex predators acting like domesticated pets... luckily this shark was one of the most majestic creatures you can see in the oceans

I do paddle and pedal when I get to my spots, for exercise, or covering water and scenery on large lakes and resevoirs. But don't know what I'd do with that monster cruising around me. Atleast he seemed to be in a good mood, and left you alone. 🙏 😎

Sadly, I have had to give up sea kayaking because of illness. I still go canoeing on lakes and rivers where the animals are not so big. Unless the Loch Ness Monster lives on.
