I had a chance to watch this video again, ( and glad I did) . The way it was finished was perfect. I didn't realize how it showed off just how spectacular the grain was and it almost slapped my face with the beauty of this bowl. I didn't notice just how beautiful the grain was the first time. Judy needs to be thankful that you were given a chance to turn this bowl. As you said (for all the world to enjoy). ♥ KEEP ON TURNING
Thank you, Howard! 😀
That feed n wax really brought out the grain in that wood, really gorgeous! Plus, I'm gonna go where no man has gone before and declare that Phil Anderson is one very smart cookie! You have now been officially accused of supreme mental aptitude. Wear it proudly Phil! 🤓 Rick
Haha, thanks Rick! 😊
Could be used for a yarn bowl by putting the yarn end through the hole and then the yarn stays in the bowl while crocheting. Neat bowl with lovely grain. 🥰
Great idea!
All of us Nifty Knitters have an eye for a beautiful yarn bowl. It's perfection.
I agree. I'm a crocheting wood turning grandmother, lol. I didn't even think of a yarn bowl.
@@janeoverby2151 I'm not a wood turner but a great grandmother of 12 and yarn bowl was the first thing that came to mind.
Great idea, Marge!! 😊
I just love that you always let the wood speak for itself Phil! That is one great looking piece!!👍🙂
Thanks 👍
I would NOT have expected that figure from poplar! Looks great!!!
I didn't either, Bill! 😊
Congratulations on resisting the temptation of plugging that hole with a piece of dowel right from the start.
Yes, thanks 😀
Those little bowls like that are my favorite things to turn. So many things you can do with them. Very Nicely done Phil. Thanks for posting.
Right on, thanks! 😀
Hope your thumbs continue to heal. Great piece, the variation of grain, color, and hole really makes this bowl. Keeping the original feature.
Thank you very much! 😊
Another great example of artwork!
Thank you so much 😀
Such a stunning creation Phil.
I'm all in favor of showing off the holes and cracks and all that beautiful grain. Zowie!! Great job🎉
Many thanks, Joanna! 😀
Phil, it's great that you stick with nature with your turning, it gives great pleasure thank you. Graham UK
So nice of you, Graham, thank you! 😊
Welcome back, Phil. I'm glad you're on the mend 👍
Another beautiful piece, I'm inspired as always 😉😁
Thank you so much, Jon! 😀
The edge of the bowl is really unique. A good unique. I really like this one.
Thank you, Stewart! 😀
I love it when the natural imperfections in wood are allowed to showcase the piece. Certainly the case here and you have a knack for making that happen. Well done, Phil.
Thanks, Geezer! 😊
One of my favorites. Love how the line of that hole has such unique grain.
Thank you, Jim! 😀
Such a beautiful bowl Phil... the swirls and patterns in the wood really adds to the character... Love it 😁💙
Thank you, Heather! 😀
Beautiful Markings ❤
Well done. Another beauty.
Thank you so much, MandyRay! 😀
The wait for the bug reveal was intense and I am pretty sure you played on it 😁. Another nice job Phil
I fully expected something alive to come out of that hole. More surprised that it didn't than if it would have! 😊
Welcome back. Hole gives it character. Nice looking candy dish.
Thank you 😋
@@PhilAndersonShadyAcresWoodshop Welcome

😊
Love all your designs but this one is special.
Thank you so much! 😊
Very nice little bowl! I love the little tunnel
Me too! Thanks, Madonna! 😊
I like this bowl. Has a character hole. I like you rounded in on the lip. Sorry I’m so late commenting I’m on a cruise and get the internet when we port 😂. Thanks Phil for this turning as it is a little different with no live edge.
Thanks for the show.
Joel
On a cruise? How cool is that! Enjoy yourself, Joel! 😊

Extra interesting turn, Phil! Great result!
Glad you enjoyed it, Richard, thank you! 😀
I had no clue poplar could look so beautiful.
Neither did I, Vicki! 😊
Nice bowl and a really beautiful grain pattern! 🙂
Glad you like it! 😀
Hi Phil! I like it very much! The final bowl was not at all what I thought it was going to be. You got a beautiful shape and finish on it. Love the grain and figure as well. Cheers, Rick
Thank you so much, Rick! 😀
Gorgeous. You’ve given us another real illustration that we have no idea what’s inside until we spend some time and invest a little effort to dig down past the surface. You did an excellent job with this nasty piece of wood. So many folks would have tossed it out. Thank you for going all in with this piece. So much beauty in there.
Thanks so much, Doug! 😊
And it’s good of you to take the time to share. Nice bowl 🌞
Thanks, Ray! 😊
Hi Phil what a magnificent piece of wood its beautiful the grain and spalting is wonderful. I really like how you let the wood do what's natural. The bowl is magnificent and unique I love it well turned Phil. Amanda xx
Thank you so much, Amanda! 😀
Spending time with you is never wasted. Always seeing something new or learning something different. Thanks for spending your time and skill with us Phil
Thanks for watching, Colin! 😊
Very nice, Phil! I ❤spalted wood!
Me too, Stacey, thanks! 😀
It's very pretty Phil & definitely a great bowl to hold my knitting wool ❤
Wonderful! 😀
Beautiful work Phil.
Thank you, Bennett! 😀
Beautiful. Love the figuring.
Thank you for commenting! 😊
That's the perfect knitters bowl.
😊
Phil, I always enjoy your tunings. I like today's turning, it looks great. I've learned a lot watching you. I've used your technique for marking the base for the correct size for mounting it on the chuck. It works great, thank you. Keep turning!
Cool, thanks, Pop! 😀
Beautiful Phil.
The inclusions add so much to it.
Take care my friend.
Cheers, Huw
Thank you, Huw! 😀 Cheers!
The bowl seems kind of magical to me with its many features and that gorgeous chatoyancy. Its little portal could be a door to a beautiful forest. 😊 🌲
You have quite the imagination, Gwynn. I love that! 😊
This is so Unique AND Beautiful. It looks satin smooth as well. Great imagination on your part to help this piece of art emerge from a piece of wood. Very well imagined into reality!
Thank you so much, Mike! 😀
I turned a bowl very similar to that once. I discovered inside a big round bug hole, it turned out that a Wood Bee had gotten in was trying to make a nest. The fibers were from the wood and what ever she had brought in for her nest. . It was quite deep and went out the side of the bowl. I also left it alone and made it a natural design feature of the bowl. The wood grain designee and color really stands out on this piece . Couldn't have (didn't) done it better myself. Spectacular results. KEEP ON TURNING
Cool story, Howard, thank you! 😊
beauty wood grain.
😀
Beautiful Piece Phil!😎👍 and that grain is Awesome!
Thank you, buddy! 😀
Very pretty like always Phil. It looked like it was a fun one to turn. Thank you for sharing. I will look for you next week.
Thanks, Albert! 😊
Hi Phil, another amazing bowl. Love it❤❤
Thank you so much, Jeanne! 😀
All that beauty in that little bowl. Love color and figure of the woods. I’d use it as a phone charging station, the hole is perfect to run a cable through. ❤❤❤❤
😊
Phil. This bowl reminded me a lot like a bowl I had earlier this spring. The hole went in about 4” in and finally flew apart. I’m glad your bowl did not fly apart. I like projects that have natural defects in them
Thank you, Dave! 😀 Too bad about your bowl, though.
Nicely done as always Phil
Thanks, Glenn! 😀
Gorgeous yarn bowl. So much cat's eye.
Thank you! 😊
It has Character! 😄
😊
Hello There! Surprise! I’m here. Did you miss me? 😆 I really, really like this bowl! (Yay F&W!) The more I look at it, the more I like it! It kind of reminds me of Native American pottery. I want to say I could feel good energy from it, but how would that be possible days later.? Well, you know me. You never know. 😂 I’m mostly good. I now am just taking care of my 93 year old dementia Dad. He is going to go with me on my yearly trip to Colorado. He is excited about it. After my mom passed, pretty much all he wanted to do was go on a trip to see “the kids”. Hopefully I’ll see you next video. Fingers crossed 🤞🏼! Take care and have a wonderful week! As always hugs and more headed your way! ✨💫 Roma 🌲💚🌳 🦅
I'm glad you're doing ok, Roma. Oh, how wonderful! I'm so glad you are taking your dad along! It will mean so much to him and, to the kids! Have a good, safe, trouble free trip, my friend! 😀
Another piece of art! I hope your thumbs get better soon.🙏🏻🥰❤️
Thank you so much 🤗 Almost better!
The yarn bowl was a great idea. Cute, little bowl. 🥰
😊
Pretty neat little bowl, very pretty!
Thank you! 😊
@@PhilAndersonShadyAcresWoodshop You’re very welcome!!
You like to live dangerously, Phil. Rounding over and scraping the top would have terrified most turners! I agree with margeburns--you may have made the world's funkiest yarn bowl! Great job.
Thank you, Tom! 😊
Hi Phil, Loved the bowl with the hole in the side. It occurred to me that it would look amazing if you turned a decorative spindle to insert into the hole, sort of a tribute to the old ladles that were used to dip drinking water from a bucket on the old homestead 🤠
Cool, thanks, Susan! 😊
I love it. Great grain, very interesting. I hope your injuries heal quickly. Thank you for sharing.
Thanks, Fred, better now! 😊
Beautiful job Phil. I think you should name it holy artwork.
LOL! Thanks, Kim! 😊
Nice job Phil again. I've had holes from carpenter bees like that. you know those big black ones. Full of stuff like yours.
Interesting, thanks! 😀
Nice job as usual Phil.
😊
Very nice bowl. the hole looks like there was a small twig that had rotted away.
Yes, could be! 😀
Holey poplar, Batman. That's a cute bowl. Thanks
Haha, thanks, Garth! 😊
A lovely piece, and I think the shape you ended with really suits what the grain and spalting are doing. So it’s got a hole in it - that just shows the history of the wood, and adds interest to the final piece. Who cares that you couldn’t serve soup in it!
Thank you, Ian! 😀
The wood is the star🤩
😊
I like that bowl ... kind of all over the place! Another fine job Phil.
Thanks, Joseph! 😊
Nicely figured piece Phil. That turned out very well. I did not realize that poplar would spalt like that. On vacation so am a bit behind watching videos this week.
Vacation? Fantastic! Enjoy, Mark! 😀
It's a beautiful little bowl. I like the hole on the side it gives it character. Have a good weekend. 👍🙂
Thank you, Mary! 😊
Go Figure! Beautiful!
😀
👍 Greetings from Austria
Thanks for the visit 😊
FINESSE at its finest!

Beautiful grain! Nice cute bowl! Great job Phil.
😊
Nice bit of wood Phil. Certainly had its problems but in the end you tamed it
Thank you, Greg! 😊
Nice bowl Phil, with lots of character! With the hole in it a great knitting bowl! Well done and thanks!
Cheers Al
Many thanks! 😊
Blows up my imagination
😊
The bowl turned out well, even with the hole. I'm a resin kinda guy. I would have filled that hole with a light blue resin but, that's just me.
I like your videos and commentary. I hope your thumbs get better soon.
Thank you! Thumbs are dang near good! Workin' on the next one! 😀
Very nice Phil.
Thanks, Jack! 😀
Ahhh, Thursday, good to have Phil back! Love the salted grain, also really enjoy your commentary Phil. Mask and face shield on, until next week .....Dan
Thank you, Dan! 😊
I love it Phil - such a beautiful piece of wood and you made the most of it as always! I love how Poplar wood gives you so much to look at - I have a really big piece of black poplar about 20" diameter x 5" thick you've put me in a mind to make it a natural edge end grain bowl now! Good to see you looking well Phil - all the best!
Thank you! 😀
very nice l like this bowl good job
Thank you so much 😊
Howdy Phil
It looks like when it was growing up , it did not know if it wanted to be a burl or a straight tree ! LOL
SO nice grain ... so easy to look ... like eye candy LOL
keep on turnin'
Yup, agree, Bruce, a confused piece of wood! LOL! Thanks, buddy! 😀
Lovely 🎉
Thanks 🤗
Love the ones with extreme Character...It's lovely:)
Thank you, Becky! 😊
Only away a week, seems longer. Enjoyed the holy bowl, Phil. Thanks for sharing.
😊
Love it…love the rustic look of this piece…gorgeous grain…👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Thank you, Loraine! 😊
Man, that has some figure that I didn't see af first. Awesome looking bowl. Perfect choice in finishes, too. Well done, Phil!
Thank you, Steve! 😊
Welcome back, Phil! Cute little bowl. Per usual, you remind us that beauty does not equal perfection. A bowl with hole can be beautiful, too. Thanks!
Sure enough, Greg! 😊
Love this bowl. I was amazed at how deep the screw driver went, Crazy what you might find in wood. Last Thursday night was not the same without you. I hope you had good luck with the new computer.
Still working on the computer but at least it's usable, Chris. Thanks! 😊
Very nice the bug holes and the hole in the side a lot of character to a beautiful bowl.
Thanks, David! 😊
What a nice piece of art to be able to display. It might serve other purposes but it doesn’t need to. It is a work of art just as it is. Thanks for bringing out the beauty of that block of wood.
Great point! Thanks, Douglas! 😊
