Definitely not a soup bowl. Maybe a chip or cookie bowl? Beautiful wood, even if hard as nails. Thank you Dan! Congrats Phil on passing 50 thousand subscribers!!!! Whoo-hoo!
Whoo-hooooo! 😍
Hello Phil. Hearing the clickity clack of your 5/8” swept back bowl gouge cutting the corners off of this awesome piece of wood is music too my ears. The bowl is gorgeous, too. Sensational video as well. Take care. 😊
Thank you so much! 😍
P
Good evening, Phil.
Wowzer! I like everything about this bowl. Wood, check. Design, check. Sanding, check. Finish, check. Soft touch, check. Looks, check. Phil did an excellent job!?
Keep your tools sharp.
See ya next time my friend.
Tools are sharper than my mind, Ray, but I'm workin' on it! 😊
Hi Phil just popped in to say how much I truly enjoy watching and listening to you. I think that I if I were not 69 years old that I would take up wood turning. Many thanks from Portsmouth on the south coast of England.
Funny you say that, Samuel. When I was 69 years old, I decided to get into woodturning. I bought my lathe and then wondered if I would get my money's worth out of it before I croaked. I have! I'm so glad I have it and I'm so glad I took up this hobby. It gets me out of bed each day! 😊
Your vision is incredible. Olive 🫒 wood. What an interesting grain. As always expertly turned Phil 🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆
Wow, thank you, David!!
Your philosophical ethos of nature and how you relate to it with your wood turning is beautiful, Phil. This is yet another stunning art-piece you've so skilfully mastered out of an odd piece of wood, everything about this bowl is gorgeous. Take care of yourself and try not to over do it! Be safe, thank you for just being you, Phil! 💛🫂😊
Thank you very kindly, Sian! 😊
Mother Nature gives us the beauty. You certainly know how to show it to us.
Yes! 😍
Yes Yes Yes if anyone could mount it and turn it then make it beautiful had to be you! Nice to see you back. Be well my friend. Dennis
Thanks a lot, Dennis! 😊
Beautiful Phil!! It always makes me smile watching your videos, thanks for being real!!
Thanks, Larry! 😊
297th!! Well, maybe not that many. Hey, anyone can be 1st, you know! LOL! That is a beautiful piece, Phil. You never cease to amaze, buddy. With all the sharpening you were doing that must be incredibly hard wood. You certainly showed who the boss is, my friend. It didn't really have a chance once you got it into your shop. Great work! Thanks for sharing!
Happy turning,
.....Gord
Thanks a lot, Buddy! It was a lot of work and it was a lot of sharpening and it was worth the effort! LOL! Feel better, Gord!
Its gorgeous Phil , You papa , Andy,RC , have taught me so much 😊😊
😃
I love the way you explane all that goes on as your turning.
I appreciate that, Steve, thank you! 😊
Nice one Phil .. cool piece as usual 👍
Thanks a lot, Andy! 😍
I love the mutual appreciation between the YT turners/makers. ❤️
Oh my gosh Phil. This olive wood bowl is stunning. Sooo beautiful. You did an incredibly awesome job. Well done Sir. Thank you for sharing your talent with us. 💕🤗💕
😍
I look forward to every one of Phil’s videos.
😊
You are the master of the natural bowl, Phil. Thanks for sharing.
😊
That is simply stunning, I would be so proud to own such a beauty.
Thanks a bunch, Colleen! 😍
I just love how you always make sure that mother nature is your most important thing that you capture. I'm always looking forward to your next piece of work. I myself will always take another wood turners artwork for reference to how I would challenge myself for my next project to make sure that something is left of nature. Sometimes it doesn't happen and you end up with a salad bowl. Then again some of those kind people want a fancy salad bowl. Either way happy turning my friend and it's awesome to see you in your element again. 😍 now it's time for me to get back to work.
Funny you should should say that, Edward. I'm working on a piece, now. Started out as a half log, then a live edge bowl and now it's a small dish! LOL!
Thanks Phil! Another beauty in the books!😃👍🏻👍🏻
😊
Howdy Phil, great sharpening jig! Olive wood is so rich and beautiful. Can't wait to see this creation completed. 👍🏻♥️🇺🇸
Not long to wait, Jessi! 😊
Holy cow, Phil…that is gorgeous! So much interesting to look at, and I wish we could all feel it. I especially like the circular grain where the branches were. Glad you’re feeling up to working in the shop. :) Take care, Marcia
Thank you, Marcia! 😍
I mustsay Phil, You haven't missed a beat my friend! Glad you are feeling well enough to get back in the shop with such a tough piece! Came out beautifully I might add! Who knew we could go from a woodturning channel to a horror channel in a split second lol. That was funny.
LOL! I hope I didn't scare the kids and ladies away! 😊
@@PhilAndersonShadyAcresWoodshop Ha ha haa! I doubt it
I'm still laughing at the axe comment! You're a riot Phil! Excellent, excellent job my friend!! Glad you're feeling better. Blessings.
A wonderful piece of wood expertly turned, a joy to watch on this saddest of days.
Sad indeed, Alan. Thank you for your comment! 😊
Oh my goodness, this one is gorgeous! It's so gorgeous that I'd put a photo of it on my wall! Wow!

Getting better every day, Albert! Thank you, looking forward to it! 😊
That’s absolutely beautiful, Phil. You never disappoint and this one is definitely outstanding. 👍🏻
😊
Phil, When the video started, I was thinking “No way he is going to get that to work”. Happily you made it work extremely well!
Happy you are back! Best Wishes, Kevin.
PS seen grands lately? We are sitting our 5 month old granddaughter. It’s fun to see them change when they are that small!
I like your post. When I first started watching Phil I thought the same thing. There's no way you can make that work. But I've learned that he always comes through. And he taught me how to make things work.
You're right, Kevin, they change quickly! 😊
@@PhilAndersonShadyAcresWoodshop you doing ok?
@@KevinCoop1 Much better, chemo is over! Just trying to get it all out of my system and take care of some side effects. Much improved!
@@PhilAndersonShadyAcresWoodshop That is wonderful news! I’m happy for you!
I love that you follow your heart and let the wood tell you what it wants to be. ♥️👍🏻🇺🇸
The only way to turn, Jessi! 😊
Hola Phil,
Beautiful. Absolutely beautiful 🤩.
Keep the aspidistra flying!
Be well.
Paul
Thanks, Paul! 😍
Hi Phil nice to see you again, this olive wood looks really nice it's got some great grain and the nooks and grannies in it are awesome. The inside sure is beautiful, I could tell its a hard piece to turn I bet you had to sharpen your tools a fair few times. The colour of the wood is really nice. The trio edge crouch bowl is fabulous and the finish is great you have turned another masterpiece. I've really enjoyed this video and I've enjoyed you telling us what you are doing. Nature is great thank you Phil please take care from Amanda in Scotland xxxx
Thank you so much, Amanda, for taking your time to watch and, once again, for your great comment! 😍
Had to work hard to get that piece of olive wood looking nice, Phil. When I start roughing a piece like that, I use a well-swept back 5/8 bowl gouge and lower the handle so you get an easier slicing cut. I see you're using HSS bowl gouges. You'd be surprised at how much better an M2 or better yet an M42 or CP10V gouge stays sharp longer on hardwood. I love breaking the turning rules of leaving piths in. Those branches make the piece. Great job! Thanks for sharing.
My gouges are M2 steel and cost 1/4 that of M42. I can sharpen in less than a minute. Works for me, Greg! 😍
@@PhilAndersonShadyAcresWoodshop Get's the job done. I keep a few M42 gouges nearby for finish cuts. The price is steep so I don't want to waste them. My worst gouge is a Hurricane. It's just HSS and not M2. I question if the heat treatment was done correctly. It seems to not hold an edge very long at all. Happy turning.
Gawd, I love olive wood. Made my daughter's ring bowl out of it. Thanks, Phil!
😊
Beautiful job Phil
Thank you, Jim! 😀
One of your best, Phil. One of many.
Thank you, Louis! 😍
Glad to see you running at full steam. 👍👍👏👏👌👌
Glad to be running at all! 😍
Another amazing natural bowl . So glad that you can show us how to turn these pieces.
So glad you're watching, Reg! 😊
olive wood is one of the most beautiful woods
No doubt about it, William! 😃
that peace is gorges.... love ya Phil...
Thanks, Jack! 😍
Love your relationship and appreciation of the wood you work on and your desire to not fix the beautiful natural quirks of the piece.
Cool, thank you, Aliceray! 😊
Hi Phil, another good transformation of Philwood into a beautiful art bowl. Thanks for the videos. Cheers, Tom
Thanks, Tom! 😊
So glad you’re back. That bowl is beautiful!
I'm glad you like it, thank you, Stephanie! 😍
Phil it’s really good to see you turning. Hope you feel well.
😊
Wow! Perhaps the loveliest wood and work I’ve seen yet. The fact that I saw JFK in the grain has nothing to do with that. The beauty is intrinsic.
Wow, I missed him! 😊
My that's a lovely piece. Thanks for sharing your art with us, Phil.
😍
Phil this is gorgeous! The grain. just Jumps out and the colours are WOW.Thanks Phil God Bless you sir.
Thank you, Bob! 😄
Awesome.
Hope your doing and feeling well.
Glad to see your in the shop.
For me it's the best therapy.
I have been leaving a lot more of the natural edges lately. I guess you have inspired me.
Thanks for posting the video I really injoy them.
That's great, thanks, Steven! 😊
One does not think of trees in Las Vegas. The variations of color in this Olive wood are a favorite. Thank you!
😍
Nice to hear your voice again. Beautiful turning as usual.
Thank you! 😊 Cheers!
Wow Phil. That is just so natural, but beautiful.

As always, Phil you continue to amaze me and challenge me!!
😊
Mr Phil , this is a beautiful piecr of wood and art,
Thank you, Johan! 😊
I like Andy's work too.
😊
Olive wood certainly IS beautiful wood. There's an olive wood store in Jerusalem, Israel, where people often go to buy little gifts; nice little place.
As always, phenomenal work! Keep it up.
Thanks for the info! 😊
!!!!!BULS EYE!!!!!!! Again. you nailed it I'm so embarrassed my pieces don't look as good as your. I Wii keep on trying be as close as I can to your results. I hope you are doing well and keep on showing us beautifull pieces. KEEP ON TURNING.
No reason to be embarrassed. It took me a good long while before I could be semi-proud of my work. 😊
Well Phil you did it again. One beautiful work of art.
Thank you, Jennie! 😃 Cheers!
Simply beautiful!!!! Thanks for sharing and take care Phil.
Glad you enjoyed it, Ted, thanks! 😊
As always, Phil, you make this look easy. An attractive piece. Thanks for sharing. Pray you are feeling well.

😊
Lovely work Phil well worth all the sharping
Great to have back again stay well my friend 👌👌
Thanks 👍
Looks like a rose on the side. Beautiful piece!
It does! 😊
the grain is the star for sure, and that shape that you achieved if fabulous! Really enjoyed seeing you at work. Thank you Mr Phil for sharing that beautiful piece, and I totally agree why put anything on that side? The woodgrain is more than enough all on it's own. Ax in the Head, you crack me up. and I love the thoughts of days that as kids we would have placed a marble or toy there in the knoock,, POL spot on Mr Phil!
Sounds like you've been there Kd, I love that! 😊
Phil is the Michelangelo of wood turning 😁 it was always there. He just removed the rough edges.
Cool, thanks, Archie! 😃
I love olive … the grain is spectacular! Glad to see you back at the lathe!
😊
Atrue inspiration praying for your full recovery
😊
Wonderful to see you Phil. Very nice piece . When I grow up I want to be as good as you.
Somehow I think you will never grow up, Steve! LOL!
You make it look so easy. Another beauty in the books

A natural yarn bowl. Very beautiful.
Yeah! 😊
A real Beauty glad to see you back

Very well done, It looks like a yarn bowl! So not just an art piece. 😉
Cool, thank you! 😊

Hi Phil. Found you quite by accident but love to watch your work. You're our favorite turrner. Good luck and smooth sailing. Kepp up the good work and "Don't let the old man in".
Thank you very much, Rick! 😊
❤❤❤, Phil! I absolutely LOVE watching your videos, I can't say that enough! I have a small crotchless h piece of Applewood that I'm going to do like you did for this piece of olive. Thank you so very.much for the videos, and the talking (teaching) that you do. I am eternally grateful to you. So glad that you are feeling better!! Take care of yourself!
That is awesome, Lori, thank you! 😄 I learned to turn by watching videos, too. I'm just imparting some of what I learned from those and my own experience I've learned along the way. I'm so glad it's helpful!
I love wood eyes!! Beautiful!!
Me too!! 😊
Congratulations on another stunning piece.
Thank you! 😍 Cheers!
I love olive wood. Beautiful piece!
😃
Hi Phil so good to hear your voice I hope this finds you well. That olive wood is so beautiful. A bit heavy on your tools but well worth the sharpening. I agree from the front it does look like a giant ants head that’s been hit with a big axe lol 🤣🤣🤣 take care and see you next time my friend 👍👍👍😊😊😊♥️
Thank you, Kelvin! 😊
Phil I had to watch your video again so I knew how to turn the piece I have. I was not real sure on how to mount my piece. After you got started I had to watch the entire video for more inspiration. I am ready to go turn my piece. Thanks for your help and guidance.
Glad it helped, Dave! Figuring out how to hold a piece is often the most difficult part. Enjoy your turning! 😊
Good to see you back Phil !! Nice new angle and wonderful piece as well .
😊
GREAT TURN! It really is all about the grain, isn't it! Thanks for sharing your work!
Thanks for watching, Richard!! 😊
the Oberti family grew olives in the central valley of California for many years... in the 40's thru 70's the Oberti Olive company provided 75% of the olives and olive oil consumed in the U.S.A. and shipped there produces around the world.... during the 70's and 80's I saw those trees dozed down and burned... now as a turner the memory makes me want to cry... those old trees were quite beautiful...
Oh, man, now I'm crying, Jack! 😍
Wow! That is another amazing piece! Someone who crochets can use that with their yarn with that deep valley on it. Man, I wish I could do turning! That is stunning! Darn.
😄
Hi 👋 Phil from Phil, You certainly do get given some lovely pieces of wood, A lovely piece of work / Art .
Phil from the moulin France.
😍
What an absolutely gorgeous "proof of life" bowl ... i'm going to adopt that phrase ... I hope you don't mind. 🤩 you never fail to impress us.
Adopt away, Denise! 😊
So very happy to see you creating another beautiful nature filled piece. So my thing also
😍
it's a gorgeous bowl Phil, just a beautiful piece of work.
Glad you like it, thank you! 😃
Beautiful wood. And your ability to work with nature shines through in this piece.
Thank you very much, Greer! 😊
You did it again Phil 🥰 what a beauty!
😊
Wow so so so beautiful. Olive wood is one of my very favorites. BTW there are olive orchards all over California. Even wild olive and the bushy Russian olive. The climate is very similar to Spain and Italy so you can bet we got that going on. I've got some Greek ancestry so I've always been a little partial to olives. I'm growing my own little baby tree now actually. Thank you so much for this video. This bowl is so beautiful. It should be an art piece but if you have a home full of art pieces It could also make a yarn bowl. No matter what it's gorgeous. Thank you so much for the videos and for keeping the wood and the tree an essential part of your turnings. I especially liked the story about hiding marbles and proof of life. Phil is the one that recommended you to me and I love his resin work but the life of the tree is the root of my obsession with wood turning. Don't ever stop keeping the bark. It will be a sad day if we lose the live edge. And thank you for recommending Kimsey I love his fearless approach to any shape he's determined to keep the natural form alive.
Sorry I meant Andy Phillips not Phil in my comment. Guess I got a little turned around in the Phil's for a second
What a great comment, Nicole, thank you very much! 😊
