Thanks for not using resin in your work. So many of the turners on UTube use resin for just about any reason instead of highlighting the wood. You are not lazy, you are a bold turner, willing to let the wood tell you what to do.
I love the resin... something about watching those ribbons fly off of it that's so satisfying...& using resin is far from being lazy...you must not have ever used resin before, because it definitely adds some work to making a piece...& This one would look awesome with some resin in all the holes...
It's bold to call those that turn different than you lazy. Just because you don't enjoy a style is no reason to belittle. Using resin properly is anything but easy or a shortcut. In this creation it would seal the holes while still leaving them be a focal point.
Phil, one of the things(just one of many) is that you and our friend Gary are two of the last breeds that do not have any commercials. I appreciate you(and Gary) for doing this. I know you could do it and maybe offset some costs but I’m sure I’m not the only one who appreciates it and thank you. Commercials bug me to no end. Thanks

How can anybody say they do not get blown away by what came out of this piece...the Bugsy Malone key and entrance hall piece, a real don't mess with me heirloom that be around for decades to come.
Phil I think that this is really a fantastic example of nature. Some etymologist is going to love it. I have some crazy idea that it could be modified as a night light or a table lamp if you were to put a cut out of the exact worms that made those holes in front of it and add a light to the bowl and it speaks for itself. I really think you're on to something and should make more of these. Thank you for your years of dedication to this art. I enjoy it immensely.

I love it, Phil! I have a bunch of mesquite on my property that turns beautifully. It's always full of worm holes, but mesquite can get punky real fast, so you need to stabilize it somehow or it will fly apart. Mesquite gets very pretty colors in it too, in my opinion.

Growing up my parents traveled a lot. Each time they would bring home something unique. One trip Dad bought what he called “worm wood”. It came in planks and he had the dining room walls covered with it. To say the least it was something nobody else had on their walls. I liked it because you always saw something different depending on the time of day. I think your piece is beautiful, just as God intended. He made sure His creation landed in exactly the right hands. Thank you for sharing your passion with those of us who are creatively challenged.

My favorite wood is the parts that look different, so you'll get no complaints from me. This piece looked too far gone, I would have sworn that it didn't have enough structure remaining to survive being turned. But you had it in your hands, and we can only see through the camera. For myself, I don't mind the wholes, what I don't like is finding a big punky spot that makes me have to change the shape, or worse give up. Maybe some day I'll make a video with some Butternut that ants have been chewing on, I've got a lot of it. Big black carpenter ants.

Phil I don't like it, I love it. I would be proud to show it off in my home. I've yet to see anything you created that I don't love. Cover it in dirt, fill it with rocks,let the bugs feast on it and don't forget the Knotts and natural holes, you make it gorgeous.
In the beginning I salivated over the heavy ratio of bug holes to wood. But later on, my mind was blown when he brought out the Sand O' Flex and eased all the outside holes for softer edges on those aforementioned bug holes.
I like the fact that you just let the wood decide what it’s going to look like. I enjoy the artists that use resin but it’s nice to see a different perspective. This is really unique - thank you!

In the beginning I salivated over the heavy ratio of bug holes to wood. But later on, my mind was blown when he brought out the Sand O' Flex and eased all the outside holes for softer edges on those aforementioned bug holes.
