Thank you!!! This saved me from a freak out -- thought I lost a whole song!
Nice, didn't know fully about the collect all and save feature. This will certainly help me.

thank you!
Hey Lucas, could you tell me or make a video on where and how do I save a small piece of audio from a project to use in future projects even if the first project gets deleted? Thanks, your videos are really helpful.
Will do!
For this you will want to drag audio clips/sampler instruments to the browser and save them!
Hey Lucas, brilliant explanation of how files are saved etc, thanks! ...however I am still having trouble with "sample offline" despite ALWAYS using "collect all and save" - it's like, every time I go back into the project I have JUST been working on, with all the files there (and these files are all audio files, not samples or downloads, recorded right into Ableton with my mic or instrument), they've gone offline. Any ideas at all? Many thanks!
Hmm, I've occasionally heard about this. If you are using mac check the read/write privilages of the folders you are using to run your sessions (right click and click Get Info). Otherwise there is definitely something not functioning normally and you should hit up their tech support!
Thanks@@LucasMessore !
Could it be that my mac recently offloaded all my files to the Cloud to save on storage, so they're not stored on the actual machine? (Maybe it's that I need to download them from the cloud...and/or move the project to the Mac?)@@LucasMessore
@@hushmantrayoga Yes that is a problem
should we click collect all and save every time we close the project or do we only do it the first time we save that project
It depends on whether or not you added samples & outside audio files in that session. I usually just hit collect all and save when i'm totally finished with a song. So i know anytime I open that file up again it's good to go.
@@LucasMessore makes sense thank you
I did it and the sample I used is an mp3 and I put search folder it says it couldnt find it however if I put the mp3 back in ableton it can play
How can I make the mp3 work when it searches for candidates?
Ableton definitely works with mp3 format. You need to correctly select the folder it is located in. As I pointed out in the video, I recommend collecting all and saving so you never have to search for that file, it will be saved in the project folder.
Ill try that! Thx
I've done all the steps, searched multiple folders, and it still wont work. I have the file on my computer but Ableton won't find it for some reason. This happens for every single new set I create in ableton now. I literally can't make any thing without this issue happening. It's also only showing "sample offline" for audio that was directly recorded into Ableton. Please help!
Have you checked what file/folder location your Ableton is recording to and triple check it's on the hard drive? Also new mac OSX have really tight privacy controls. You can go to finder and hit "Get Info" and adjust the privacy settings of certain folders. Make sure Ableton Live has access to your folders. Let me know if this helps but you should hit up their support asap!
I'm having this same problem where the project won't load audio I recorded directly into it.
Can anyone explain this to me because it makes no sense:
I had a project saved on an external hard drive, so when I got a mew laptop, I copied the entire project and all its folders, including the samples folder to the laptop.
When I open the project now, all the samples are offline. But if I connect the hard drive to the laptop, the samples are there.
I'm not opening the project from the hard drive, I'm opening the copied project and all the samples are there.
It's when I disconnect the hard drive, then the samples go offline again.
It's driving me crazy because it makes no sense whatsoever.
I've copied other projects from the hard drive with no issue.
Hey! That's how Ableton works. Your Live session refers to samples in the exact directory that you loaded them from. So if you move stuff around it gets confused. If you collect all and save as I explain in this video it will rectify this problem and you will be able to move around your session folder. Hope that helps!
What if I save it as a template... can I delete the original file?
Saving as template would save the audio with it. So yes you could do that!
My files literally just go missing. Used collect and save and still lose everything once I close out. Loved this daw but it’s getting sketchy
That’s not normal. I would double check where you file location is set to. And all your privacy settings. And hit up tech support.

Now repeat that again
Im changing to protools
Lol, it's always good to know pro tools, you should use both

You double click here, at about 5.20 ish. I was not able to follow where to double click, I couldn't see your mouse double click....
I'm double clicking on the orange error message box at the bottom that says "click for details"!
Brilliant many thanks…
Didn't help
