Who’s ready for an awesome Toyota Gazoo Racing BTCC DRAG RACE?!
We’ve brought the 2021 & 2022 season cars together, along with the classic AE86, and they’re going to go head-to-head over a series of three challenges!
First up we have Mat in the 2021 season Corolla, which is powered by a 2-litre turbocharged 4 cylinder engine to deliver 370hp & 400Nm of torque. It’s FWD and weighs in at 1,270kg. What’s more, if Mat were to crash it, it’d cost about £250,000 to replace!!
Alongside him we have the 2022 season car, which is mostly identical to the current season car. However, it’s got one key advantage - it includes an EV motor that’ll deliver an extra 40hp for 15 second bursts!
And then finally we have the classic AE86. It may only have a 1.6-litre naturally aspirated 4 cylinder engine that delivers 182hp, but it also only weighs 800kg! Does it stand a chance? There’s only one way to find out… LET’S RACE!

@@jayfujiwara9740 Do mean the ae101 black top? Yes, it would be a great choice, but I prefer the 16v for better low end torque with built internal & itbs. I have a Formula Altantic setup on mine and I absolutely love it.

Manual sequential gearboxes also have a clutch pedal they just only typically use it for 1st gear.

A reminder that even "just" a BTCC car takes actual skill to drive fast.
And all that launch control, tractions control and automatic gearboxes are doing a lot of the work for us.
The AE86 driver didn't even know it was a race, he was just there for his daily routine Tofu delivery

17s sounds really bad for that Toyota. 😯 I've done 1/4 mile with my standard Mazda MX5 1.8 146BHP @ 16.0s and my dad's heavy Seat Altea 1.9 Tdi 105 remapped (146BHP) done @ 16.5s. 🙁
More people in the UK need to go and watch BTCC races. They are incredibly cheap events for the value you get out of them, around £30 for a Sunday which is packed full of wheel to wheel racing. That lock up from Matt in the brake test was incredible 😂

BTCC cars are so raw. Makes you appreciate the skill level of the drivers racing millimetres apart at maximum pace around a circuit. Good on Toyota Gazoo Racing for making this drag race happen. 👏🏼👏🏼

Now this is real racing! Having to nail the launch and time your shifts perfectly. Not like driving all the modern turbocharged AWD auto sports/supercars where you just simply plant your right foot and boom, 10 second 1/4 mile.
