- I always wondered what it would be like if a movie like Robocop showed up in the general public and how they would react. I thought it would be perfect to visit Walmart and see exactly how the general public would react if Robocop just randomly walked in to buy some baby food. You know Robocop would randomly get a baby food craving while on patrol and have to grab some grub. So let's see together how the people would react! Please leave a comment and like guys! Putting a smile on somebody's face is the greatest gift. I mean, you never know what other people are going through. And I say this as somebody who's struggled with depression a lot in my life. Maybe meeting RoboCop that day was the exact ray of light they needed that made their lives a little bit brighter.

I'm honestly touched to see so many people enthusiastic about Robocop in such a wide array of age ranges and backgrounds. This is amazing costume work too. What a fun concept with an equally fun crowd.

He was a cop who was murdered on the clock, and OCP who funds the police department decided he fit the bill of becoming a robotic officer with the skills he possessed before becoming RoboCop, so they left some parts of his memory for that purpose. He was deployed to the Detroit Police Department as a full time officer.

Robocop is the embodiment of a badass 80's action hero! To me, he represents humanity's triumph in technology as well as proof that the human spirit can never be extinguished. A perfect salute to a perfect movie series.

That was awesome, I'm glad you were able to catch that and share it because I love seeing stuff like that. That kid was so mesmerized by Robocop that he couldn't take his eyes off of him. I do stuff like that too, but it's beautiful women that cause it for me...
They say shoplifting has gone down dramatically at this Walmart location ever since. But seriously, love seeing how everyone lights up over it and wants to get photos with Robo. Awesome.

I love the 8-bit Robocop theme song in the background. What a treat, man. People who weren't alive then just do not understand what it was like growing up in the 80s. It was a truly magical time for cinema and entertainment. I really don't think any other decade can compare.

I remember watching Robocop back in the 90's with my dad. Now we all have the game we needed in 2023, and this video completed the cycle!
As an 80's kid who probably watched movies like Robocop one too many times, I would of been pretty geeked out seeing this as an adult, let alone if I was a kid again. Props to you man, pretty cool stuff.

This is so awesome. Everyone there will have quite the story to tell. The day Robocop came to Walmart. It's interesting to note though that it's never explicitly stated in the movie that the food Robocop eats is baby food, only that it tastes like baby food. It's only referred to as a rudimentary paste which sustains his organics. We're never actually told what it is. And I love how the cashier is just chilled just doing her job. If I were in her shoes I would be like "OH MY GOD, IT'S ROBOCOP BUYING BABY FOOD FROM ME" 😂😂😂
Actually not true, when Robo is in the steel yard, Ann Lewis brings him baby food to eat. He also uses it for target practice. EDIT I guess they never show him eat any, but I felt it was implied that baby food might work as a substitute for his OCP paste.
Surely that's what baby food is - a nourishing rudimentary paste that sustains baby's organs?!

What I also love about this is that you used the original classic Robocop suit. And that suit looks freakin' amazing btw!
The suit looks absolutely amazing. Probably the best replica I've seen outside of the film. But it goes to show you just how incredible Peter Weller was in that movie not just as an actor but a mime artist as well. Just because you have a suit it might make you a Robocop, but it doesn't make you Alex Murphy 😉
I met Chris (and the suit!) at a con earlier this year. It's absolutely flawless.
This is the kind of thing that makes people just plain happy. It's great to see you doing this just for the fun of it and not something that makes people upset. Congratulations.
And that NES chiptune in the background. I love it. Sadly, you could never do a movie like RoboCop 1 in the present day. Back in the 1980s, directors and studios had balls. I miss these kind of movies (like Robocop 1 or Terminator 1).

Those aren't metal detectors. I should know. I carry a concealed firearm in them all the time.
They only detect the anti-theft tags on items, not metal. Every shopping cart would be setting it off going in and out. I thought this was obvious...

If i saw someone dressed as RoboCop at the mall, i would walk up and say „Murphy, it's you”.
The reactions of people were cool. Some were laughing. Huge respect for the design of this costume. It must have been difficult to move around in it.

That’s what struck me too - people seem so desensitized today! If I saw Robocop anywhere, I’d be like “Guys! Robocop is here! OMG!” 😅
Typically content creators (especially big names) will edit all that stuff out. The amount of cringe behind the scenes of some of the videos on youtube (especially public dancing) is crazy high you just never see it. And this vid isn't even bad. Ok, imagine there was a anime convention, and close-by was a Wendy's; and at lunch time groups of anime cosplayers are in there eating and cutting up taking selfies and sh**. The rest of the customers are like genX and boomers rolling their eyes, or the look of confusion from across the room. That scenario actually happened to me, I just sat back and observed. The point is this video is just a realistic public reaction from some folks who don't care, and some who think it's cool. We're all just conditioned by creators cutting out everything that isn't self-serving, so to see a reaction vid with non-reactions like this in a raw format looks off, when it's actually normal behavior. It's crazy to think about.
Downfall of society. People stopped paying attention to other people as well as their surroundings. I wish I had a time machine to go back to 1980's.

I can't imagine how uncomfortable, and hot that costume must be. I love how detailed, and realistic it looks, and how you have the sound, and movements down. That being said, wearing it for more than 10 minutes HAHA. That has to be a challenge.
The original suit used in the movie had integrated AC installed into the suit to prevent the suit actor from overheating.
This is absolutely the best! Everyone loves Robocop, and it shows. Smiles all around, and mad respect to both of you for the work that went into this gorgeous suit! Fabulous fun!!
There were so many utterly joyless members of public in that shop, especially that cashier. You'd think seeing an awesome Robocop walking about was a daily occurrence 😂 Good job, Murphy. Glad to have you back to serve the public trust, protect the innocent, and uphold the law!

Well, admittedly, there are some places in the world where people will dress up in character costumes and try to charge people money for taking pictures with them. Which is sketchy but not the worst. But in places like NYC they actually try to photobomb you and then threaten you for money. And they get enough people who will pay them because many people by don't handle confrontation well.

I remember watching the real Robocop as a kid, then the reboot. Thanks for saving the nostalgia, hard to believe even even the reboot was almost 10 years ago, this one was nothing like the original though. We know those kids were asking their parents, who that is, and parents were able to share a little of their young adulthood. Thanks for saving and sharing history, lets hope its done right next time.

That was fun to watch, I sat through the whole thing. Reminds me of walking through public places around and during Halloween in my $700+ dollar WWII 101st Airborne soldier costume/impression. I actually get some fairly similar reactions - People turning their heads in surprise and/or intimidation, though I don’t get asked for pictures as often as you did. And there’s plenty of the ones who don’t react, too, like they’ve seen much stranger things in their lives. Thanks for doing this and posting the footage, and awesome job on the costume!

January 1988, I was in Lima, Peru on a business trip. On the way to the Hotel from the Airport I look out the window of my Taxi. And some guy in full Robocop armor just like this one was walking down the street. I'll never forget that incident because the costume was so real like this one in the video.

I first saw Robocop when I was 8 years old in 1990 . Didn't phase me whatsoever. Saw Alien a few weeks later and freaked at the dinner table the next evening thinking an alien was going to burst out of my chest

I enjoy cosplaying myself but it's way too expensive to do sadly plus the connections to make it happen is difficult.
