  • "Hinge and Bracket" were a British comedy double act consisting of George Logan and Patrick Fyffe. They portrayed the characters of Dr. Evadne Hinge and Dame Hilda Bracket, respectively. Hinge and Bracket became known for their humourous and camp performances, often appearing in character as two eccentric spinsters.
The act originated in the 1970s and gained popularity through various television appearances, particularly on the long-running British variety show "The Generation Game." Hinge, played by George Logan, was the more serious and reserved character, while Bracket, played by Patrick Fyffe, was flamboyant and extravagant.
Their performances usually involved comedy sketches, musical numbers, and witty banter. Hinge and Bracket often parodied the genteel and eccentric stereotypes of British spinsters, creating a blend of comedy and light-hearted entertainment. They would frequently engage with the audience, creating a warm and interactive atmosphere.
In addition to their television appearances, Hinge and Bracket toured extensively, performing live shows across the United Kingdom. Their stage performances included comedy routines, songs, and even some opera parodies. The duo was particularly known for their renditions of popular opera pieces, which they humorously adapted to suit their comedic style.
Hinge and Bracket's act appealed to a wide audience, attracting both fans of comedy and those with an appreciation for the arts. Their witty dialogue and charming personas endeared them to many viewers, and they became well-known figures in British entertainment.
Tragically, Patrick Fyffe passed away in 2002, bringing an end to the official Hinge and Bracket partnership.
George Logan did continue to perform occasional solo shows but primarily went on to own and run a hotel in France with his partner, Louis. I had the pleasure of staying there for a week with my mum, sister and her husband. We had the best time.
The legacy of Hinge and Bracket remains as a beloved part of British comedy history, remembered for their unique brand of humour and their ability to bring laughter to audiences through their charming and eccentric characters.

Lovely song, sweet performance. I was fortunate to see them perform live on three occasions, they were funny and talented and introduced me to music I would never have otherwise encountered. RIP George and Patrick.
