    Great to see something being restored rather than thrown away and replaced (as seems the norm in this era before we’re finally forced to look after our planet).

      This…

    • @paulgrimshaw8334
      @paulgrimshaw8334 4 месяца назад +10

      Agree. Reinstalling a bearing that has been pressed out isn’t a good idea. Also, a full contact sealed bearing is suitable for this application because the old bearing operated in dirty and wet conditions.
      While on the subject of bad ideas…
      Never, ever, spin a dry bearing. Especially with compressed air because the rotational speeds can be very high. Zero lubrication means metal-on-metal contact. When un lubricated, cages can score bearings and races.
      Most bearing manufacturers specify a 1/3 fill of grease. Anything more than that will add drag and squeeze out past the seals during use… and attract dirt.

      And probably a new bearing of a higher quality. Standard they're mostly of a mediocre quality.
      Bearings that are in a shape like this one, most of the time are having to much slack after cleaning. And that is costing efficiency too.
      And then there are the bearings in the pedals too. Most of the time they can't be serviced at all.

    Not necessary to release the bearing outside. Just remove one rubber. Put all the area in a fluid to clean. Shake it to release the dirt. Dry it and lubricate it. Easy!
    Alternative buy 2 new bearing for 3-4 dollars and change.

    9:30 Greasing your bearings.
    An effective but messier method to ensure you get grease to all parts of your bearing is to put some grease on the edge of your non dominant palm. About the mid point between your small finger and the heel of your hand opposite your thumb.
    Then using your dominant hand, lay the ball bearing part of the bearing on the grease and then press down and drag the bearing towards you, using both the pressing down and dragging of the bearing, while also pressing back with the edge of your non dominant palm, to press the grease into the bearing.
    Then rotate the bearing slightly and repeat till you've done the whole bearing and you can see grease coming out of all parts of the bearing on the side facing you.
    Repeat for the other side of the bearing and you should have grease applied to all parts of the bearing that need grease.
    Replenish the grease as required during all stages of the above process.

    • @GoodBicycle

      Let's just say that if the bearing is dirty, it is definitely already worn.)

    If the bearing is pressed out only by the inner ring, it is destroyed. Then it makes no sense to clean and lubricate it, it is better to put a new one. As you can see in the video, the new one is pressed behind the outer ring and that's right.

    Très bonne vidéo sur l'entretien des roulements BSA, je pratique ainsi depuis des années sur mes VTT. Par contre les roulements dans votre vidéos ont trop subi de corrosion pour être rattrapés. Les billes sont corrodées et leur état de surface a été endommagé à jamais, elles ne seront plus jamais aussi lisses que des billes neuves même après un nettoyage / regraissage, et le roulement ne sera plus jamais aussi fluide qu'un neuf en charge. Vu le prix d'un roulement acier neuf, le plus simple est de changer les roulements par des neufs pour retrouver une vraie fluidité.
    Mais sinon merci pour votre vidéo très bien réalisée.

    How stupid ! The bearings that were removed, cleaned & re-greased are known as *SEALED* bearings. We saw this seal being removed & also cleaned & refitted.
    The stupid part is that it was clear that the seals had failed as evidence by the dirt inside the bearings, so what will happen in a very short space of time is these cleaned & re-greased bearings will ingest dirt & water again & we are back to square one.
    NeXT time, just replace the bearings for a long term repair.

    Threaded bottom brackets like this are often so inexpensive that it is better to replace the entire bottom bracket than attempting to clean the bearings.

    Way too much grease in the bearing. But otherwise this is a fine job! Installing new bearings as soon as available would be better though because these ones are rusting inside.

    Two things, 1st the grease you are using looks like assembly grease and not bearing lubricant. assembly grease is far too viscous for bottom bracket bearings. 2nd, you have used far too much grease. When lubing bottom bracket bearings, you should not completely pack them with grease, you only need to fill the grease about 30%.

    Film trochę bez sensu. Kto ma taki warsztat, to filmu nie potrzebuje. A kto nie ma - też filmu nie potrzebuje. Suport Hollowtech można kupić za 70zł (Shimano), lepiej wymienić niż się taplać w smarach. Ew dać cały rower do przeglądu i smarowania za pare stówek.
    Sam w zeszłym roku zrobiłem większy przegląd - jak ktos nie robi zawodowo albo nie ma warsztatu/szopy/garażu i 3-5 rowerów do ogarniecia to nie warto.
    Za duża babrania, wywalania kasy na smar użyty raz w roku, śmieci, przybrudzenia, smród środków do czyszczenia.

    • @dougmacnr
      @dougmacnr 8 месяцев назад +5

      You are overspeeding a unlubricated bearing. This causes the contact surfaces between the balls, cage, and inner and outer race to wear from the friction and potentially damage the hard facing on either the balls or races or both. Particularly hazardous on ceramic coated ball bearings as the balls hammer the races potentially micro cracking the coating. All of this shortens your bearing life and is counter to what you are trying to achieve be servicing the bearing.
