Why Forza Motorsport looks SO BAD?

  • From outdated car models to uncountable bugs, could graphics get better?⚠️ EDIT: Microsoft Flight Simulator doesn't use FTECH (Those were old rumors)
In general the game looks good, and a game doesn't need to possess photo-realistic graphics to be good, but we were marketed something else in this case... there's no doubt, issue is the consistency which is missing, sometimes looks great yet other times terrible, like if they cherry-picked and only developed a few scenarios for the marketing? who knows, it's 2020s gaming industry after all.
Forza Motorsport has great potential, if the support persists.

When it comes to games looking "beautiful", companies of our day just misunderstand the concept. Everyone just forces RTX ultra shiny lighting mess of graphics, sure the technology today is much much better than before but I don't think it makes it any good. I think what makes a game beautiful is it's composition, detail and homogenity. Nothing should be exaggerated or lean. Every model or texture should be up to standart(it doesn't even need to be that high, just consistent) to not break the illusion. And finally detailed in an authentic way. As an example, be it quite a diffrent one, Man Of War: A.S. 2 was and still is a game I just stop and like to look at. The textures are trash, so are many things not up to todays standart, but it is consistent and authentic. The maps not being open world lets the devs to focus much more on details, and so I think the F.M. could do it as well. With that budget, they could have easely made everything look right, but they sadly didn't.

100% right. Consistency is very important to make the game look good and authentic. I really dislike modern post processing effects and lighting, it's often overdone and becomes a visual mess most of the time. Older games were alot cleaner to look at I find. It doesn't matter if the objects have 10 times more polygons/triangles, if you can't create something consistent and clean to look at it will look hiduous in the end.
I have been playing Forza Horizon 4 recently and that game is stunning, it is a great example of a relatively modern game that gets the lighting and consistency right. That game looks much better than this new Forza game imo. I may be a bit biased because I love the green and gloomy landscapes of Scotland, (I actually visited Scotland and Edinburgh this summer and it was beautiful) and all the stonewalls framing the roads/properties but still.

that is the current mistake of modern games, too perfect, too shiny, exaggerated wet effects, cars reflecting surfaces like diamonds or jewels, i dont underdtsnd what concept of reslity do they have, but real life is much more imperfect than they think, i remembrr seeing a gameplay of a bugatti veyron, i dont remember if it was gran turismo or forza but holy shit, the reflections were too bright that it was complicated to even look at the car, real life is a ness because it is composed of materials, and those materials are not shiny nor perfectly created from scratch, they go through a process, and that process is a whole mess, that's why real life is imperfect and not shiny.

every aspect in this game is "INCONSISTENT", ranged from great up to awful. Looks like devs are heavily rely on ray tracing, upscaling, and every others new gen hardware technologies have. Sadly, a lot of recent AAA games are going in to that directions resulting a lot of messy graphics and performance (especially in mid to lower hardware). the amount of known issues listed on the official forza support stated that the game isn't completed by the period of its release.

They definitely didn't rely on RT. The rt is absolutely piss poor. Only the player car has RT, and RT only covers objects up to 1 meter away and reflects them cleanly with no actual diffusion based on the material. It's literally the laziest implementation I've seen.

Even FM 5 looks better and has more content than FM 2023.... FM 5 was actually built from the ground up unlike FM 2023. All cars also had info about them which was a nice touch.

The new Motorsport looks way too washed out imo, the cars look like their paint has been exposed to high levels of UV light, causing it to fade. Why did it change so much from the initial showcase? I call BS on "it's just the style we're going for," Horizon 5 looks so much better (a cross-gen title by the way). I'm also getting tired off the inaccurate models as well, low poly is one thing, but if the wheel bases aren't even the same as the real life car potentially making the handling inacurate, then a new model has to be made, and after so long they only remodeled one car, the 22B. Honestly after GT7 I'm not falling for this again, Forza should just stick to the Horizon spin-off if they can't make a main-line Motorsport better than Motorsport 4, I really wanted this one to be good to...

    • @KonTurboR
      @KonTurboR  11 месяцев назад +14

Yes, if aerodynamics and tyres are being simulated in real time, deformations regarding the inaccuracy of the models do affect the gameplay. They should've let FM series die after FM4, they clearly want to focus in FH series only, which is ok it sells more. If they truly wanted to keep FM alive, they wouldn't be launching this... yet charging up to $100.
I agree, polygons aside the materials are the biggest issue here (graphically).

There's a huge push in the gaming industry to force 4k60 and raytracing in games on the consoles since they were advertised as 4k consoles. The consoles have the equivalent of an rtx 2070/3060 where if you own one of those, you know that 4k and raytracing means lowest graphics settings in any game from the past few years. I think this is causing a lot of developers to cut a lot of corners to focus on getting to run 4k on what is essentially 1080p60/1440p30 hardware.

Bullshit, realism is realism. Back in ps1 days , Gran Turismo passed as a REAL* driving simulator. Now, its a joke. Not only should all cars have realistic damage modelling, but the driver should also face consequences up to and including DEATH, THAT would make a fine simulator, and also give the best depth to the game. Imagine investing hundreds of hours in a driver, and then having a crazy accident that not only totals the car, but kills the driver, forcing you to restart the whole game, do you know what that would make it? A SIMULATOR. Drivers die in real life when they fuck up or someone else does. I may be angry initially, but I would learn a valuable lesson about pushing too hard, and I would be very impressed by the realism and depth of the game. I could play it forever. Developers are just being lazy, and thats a common factor in most games these days, just look at Starfield. I want a game with Gran Turismo car selection and race modes, BeamNG damage, and Forza car mods, plus I want the driver to have experience point progression, and for him to suffer physical damages from bad accidents, leading to long hospital stays that reduce your experience. Then I would CARE about my cars, I would CARE about my drivers, and I would actually FEEL like I was playing a deep simulator. FUCK keeping the cars pretty.

The team that did forza horizon 5 put more effort ina single palm tree then the entire team that worked on this game for 6 years, this is INEXCUSABLE at this point, turn 10 should have enough experience to actually make the game look like it was promised in the ORIGINAL 2020 forza motorsport 8 trailer, i am tired of these behemoths of companies taking us for a ride with our wallets and not doing anything innovative.
My question to you is, what does forza motorsport do that i cant find in forza motorsport 6, not even 7 alright forget about 7. What does forza motorsport have that forza 6 doesnt have, besides the newer cars being added in, the answer is nothing, as a matter of fact we lost MORE ABILITIES then we gained. This is a fucking joke do not defend this, do not give them advice, they have all the advice they need, from the 1st forza motorsport to the very last, i dont care. Advice is needed for the indie developers that are working their ASS off making better stuff at release day then these sorry excuse games by a billion dollar corporation that is buying companies left and right, "oh yes lets buy out bethesda, blizzard activision, treyarch and infinity ward, but let's not give Turn 10 studios competent people to improve on forza motorsport" Lets not forget that this forza releases with less tracks then ANY other forza motorsport in the franchise. How we have allowed this to manifest in the first place is not only a joke but the fact that they seem to think that is perfectly acceptable to launch with this many tracks and not even have the nurburgring at the beginning of the game's lifecycle?

I don't thinks it's unfair for our expectations to be high for coming into this game as a consumer. I was very disappointed in the graphics and how generic it looked on day one. I expected the quality to be at least where it is in Forza Horizon 5. The truth is, most of us play both the Horizon games as well as Motorsports. Most days I start off playing FH5 for a few hours, and then go directly over to this game. It's very underwhelming, to the point where I'm finding that I really just want to go back to FH5. I feel I do my part by having the equipment they claim is needed to maximize the overall gaming experience (4K TV, and the top of the line XBox Series X, ect.. ect..) I also always buy the Premium version of the new game. With that being said, I feel let down. I 100% agree that it feels forced, and money driven to release it when they did. But PLEASE, if your going to tease us with previews of "in game footage" that looks amazing, you better at LEAST come close to it when we finally get to play it! It's the standard you you set with that preview! I do, in turn, understand that marketing is going to produce a preview that looks looks slightly better than what your will actually get, but come on, this isn't even close! It feels like what i received was a knock of version from a gas station.
Is this the beginning of the end for the Forza franchise? It very could be. If they don't redeem themselves from this "deceptive" release somehow, people are going to start losing faith in them. As consumers, we don't forget this type of thing when it comes time for the next Forza game. We will very much expect them to at least hold up the standard that they had previous to this. If they don't... Well, it's their funeral.

Definitely not impressed by the damage modelling in the new game. It looks half baked, generic and really poor quality. Though this may in part be due to the licensing limitations, Forza needs separate licenses to be able to use damage modelling on cars, as many manufacturers are EXTREMELY fussy about what sort of damage they allow to be seen on their cars. So the devs may have simply opted for a generic model but that's still no excuse for how bad and poorly detailed it is, it's not even representative of where you get the damage from let alone realistic.
I also noticed that some of the cars looked a little bit odd (even without raytracing it's noticeable), but couldnt quite put my finger on it. This explains why though, whilst it's understandable and saves time and money (game assets get reused all the time) it's inexcusable behaviour for a company this size, considering the improvements to graphics even in the last couple of years with raytracing etc.

FM no longer try to compete with GT and that's a problem, when we look at simcade on xbox and PC our only choice is either PC3, Grid Legends or FM (there's AC but the career mode and car selection was too small to draw interest from the casual audience) hence their complacent.
Remember Microsoft has stopped making games to sell console.
Now if only sony have the ball to release GT7 on PC maybe Turn10 can feel the competition but for now? They'll comforably sit at the top.

Don't forget AUDIO. Audio is arguably more impactful than visuals in a racing game. None of the cars sound remotely realistic in Forza. There's no way to connect with the cars and the track if it all sounds fake. Play a game like Assetto Corsa Competizione and feel the crazy immersion that game brings by it's realistic audio design. The brakes, the tires, and most importantly the car actually sounds similar to what it does in real life.
I'd rather have 50 cars that are super true to life than 500 cars that sound nothing like real life.

6:59 the answer to this is pretty sad. Even with the so called “Ray Tracing” enabled, this is a blatant giveaway of Screen Space Reflections being used instead. An issue SSR has had since its creation is that ANY obstructions in the way of a reflection will have a weird “wipe” effect, in that the area surrounding that obstruction will have that weird light artifact/vanishing of the reflection. I’m not discrediting Screen Space Reflections, in fact, it still works really well for such an old method of recreating water reflections, but I genuinely don’t know what is being ray traced in this game. The car paint models look flat in many instances, the shadow resolution and drop off on the cars are horrendous, the rain reflections from what I can tell are rendered with SSR, the list goes on.

The whole game looks like absolute trash and runs like it too. I play on PC and have "decent" specs in my opinion, a Ryzen 7 5700, RTX 3070, and plenty of ram. However, this game runs so inconsistently it's nearly unplayable at times, forget about having RTX on and high settings, if I want anything more than 25fps I have to set everything one or two notches down. Strangely enough Forza Horizon 5 looks MUCH better, has much more world detail and more assets to generate than this game and more destructible environments (so you'd assume more demanding) but runs SO much better. With FH5 I can play on ultra settings with RTX on and cap out at the 72fps it's set to. HOW is that even possible?
