3D Settings for Nvidia Control Panel NVCP
This is the main section for configuring important graphics and performance-related settings on your Nvidia GPU. There are three major sub-components here: Adjust Image Settings With Preview; Manage 3D Settings; and Configure Surround, PhysX.
Adjust Image Settings with Preview
The options are: Let the 3D Application Decide - which reduces your ability to enhance and further control game graphics quality and performance via the NVCP. Use the Advanced 3D Image Settings - this setting allows you to greatly optimise games. Use my preference emphasizing
Manage 3D Settings
Any setting you change under Global Settings applies to all games and other 3D applications on your system, while those you change under Program Settings only apply to the specific game or program you select in the drop-down box at the top.
Image sharpening
Turn off image sharpening and GPU scaling.
Ambient Occlusion
Ambient Occlusion, such as SSAO (Screen Space Ambient Occlusion), HBAO (Horizon Based Ambient Occlusion) or HDAO (High Definition Ambient Occlusion), it's best to first try that rather than to force AO from the NVCP.
Anisotropic Filtering
The options for this setting are Application Controlled, Off, 2x, 4x, 8x, and 16x. Most games will benefit from using forced 16x AF.
Antialiasing FXAA
AA is a technique used to smooth the appearance of jagged lines.
Antialiasing Gamma Correction
This setting has no impact on modern DirectX games.
Antialiasing Mode
Set to Application-controlled.
Antialiasing Setting
Attempting to force MSAA, or AA methods based on MSAA, such as Coverage Sampling Antialiasing (CSAA) or Multi-Frame Sampled Antialiasing (MFAA), will only work for some games.
Antialiasing Transparency
Causes performance and/or compatibility issues in most games.
CUDA GPUs
For gaming purposes, components such as PhysX physics simulations or AI processing can be GPU accelerated using CUDA to improve performance.
DSR Factors
Dynamic Super Resolution (DSR) is a feature that allows you to render a game at a higher resolution than your monitor's native resolution (its max supported resolution), and then rescales the higher resolution image to match your native resolution
DSR Smoothness
This setting comes into effect when the DSR - Factors setting is enabled. GeDoSaTo (Generic DownSampling Tool) provides many more options than DSR.
Maximum Pre-Rendered Frames / Low Latency Mode / Max Frame Rate
Controls the max number of frames the CPU prepares in advance. Can cause input lag.
Multi-Frame Sampled AA (MFAA)
Provides MSAA-like Antialiasing quality at a lower performance cost.
OpenGL rendering GPU
Determines how OpenGL games and applications handle rendering when connected to multiple displays and/or if using two or more different types of Nvidia GPUs.
Power Management Mode
The options are Optimal Power, Adaptive and Prefer Maximum Performance.
Shader Cache
Texture filtering Anisotropic Sample Optimization
Set to Off to ensure the highest image quality
Texture filtering Negative LOD bias
Set this to Clamp NOT Allow.
Texture filtering Quality
Options include High Performance, Performance, Quality and High Quality.
Texture filtering Trilinear Optimization
Threaded Optimization
Triple Buffering
Vertical Sync / VSYNC
If you have a Gsync monitor, skip this.
Virtual Reality Pre-rendered Frames
Virtual Reality - Variable Rate Super Sampling
Other options in the NVCP include display settings which allow you to:
Change resolution, adjust desktop colour settings, rotate display, rotate display, view HDCP status, set up Digital Audio, adjust desktop size and position and set up multiple displays. Other NVIDIA control panel video settings are: adjust colour settings and adjust video image settings. Хобби

When I first read this comment before watching I was like tf...but then I saw it
Actually haven't seen a tutorial that explains each setting so that's epic. In other more important news, I now understand how it feels to see a Shogoz vid pop up.
Thanks Georgie! Happy to hear it's useful because I was working on this on and off for like a month :P
Sup Georgie
go to the point to mach fack..
I installed nvidia control panel in my brain now everything is optimized
Monkey neuron activation
I like how he goes in-depth with everything. The attention to detail in this video is elite. My mouse magically clicked sub and turned on post notifs on its own because it would like to say thanks.
The power Management option in other videos shows that you should keep it on prefer maximum performance. Which is why some people notice the rising temperatures and some performance issues. I'm glad that you showed us the proper way
This guide is a lot better than Panjno's guide since instead of just optimizing for the highest frames possible, you actually picked the settings that has minor impact to the system and still give benefits.
Not to mention the comedy is great as well :)
True
That's why I like guides like these that gives a compromise for both :)
2 years later and this is still a great refresher video on optimization. Thank you ^-^
dude got "suicide note'' on his desktop lmao
the fact that you made tutorials entertaining and informative--- epic gamer
This was the best video I've encountered for these Nvidia Control Panel settings, thank you sir for taking the time to explain!
Yo thank you so much :D
im a poor person: has rtx 2070
Only thing I've upgraded though in the last 4 years since I bought it, oh and the SSD :p
@@shogoz next upgrade you need a higher refresh rate monitor.
@@shogoz i only have an ssd ;-;
That's actually not bad
Well my parents make about 300-400 bucks a week (Because of C-Virus) and I'm getting an RTX 2060 SUPER. it took a few pay checks but, I'm getting it

happy to see you uploading again
cant wait for the next one
Eyyyyyy :D good to see you! Already working on the next video! Decided against making the 'Monkey Edition' of this tutorial until a later time because it would be too similar to this one. Hope you're having a good week dude!
Love this tutorial! I love how in depth you go with each setting!
Okay you deserve a million subs. This is not only a really good and well executed video about the settings but also humorous which is a plus for me. And what’s even more amazing is that i think you’re the only youtuber who explains and shows the differences INSIDE the game as well which is what I’ve been looking for. Alot of effort put into this. You’ve earned a sub bruv 👍

Thx for the knowledge friend
excellent video, thanks!
if I cant turn off anisotropic filtering ingame do I turn it off in nvcp instead? there is other options ingame, Trilinear and Bilinear, would those be better to choose alongside nvcp x16 anisotropic
i died when he said that he personally hope it explodes....because I was thinking the exact same thing about people who own those
I do not think I have ever laughed this loud in a tutorial. You win the prize!
By farthe best video i have seen in a long while you my friend deserve a big fat SUB!
Your video saved me a bunch of troubles and research, u earned a sub my dude
Kind of you to say! It took a long time to research in preparation for the video because the information was scattered everywhere 😂
@@shogoz Yeah exactly, Nvidia control panel was fucking with some game settings i was playing on and it was literally unplayable. I was wondering how it was possible after like 4-5 hours of research.
I'm using sharpening because of TAA which just smears vaseline all over the screen. Sharpening helps it immensely.
true
1st off this guy is hilarious!!!
Secondly anyone that down voted this clearly didn't use his settings. Made a BIG difference for me on some high end games!
I say THANK YOU sir.
Thank you Jam Currie!! I apologise that I only just saw this comment :S
Thanks for the tutorial. I have to watch it again for the settings. It is hilarious 😂
Glad you enjoyed it Mus'ab! :D
Thanks for the laughs and more for in-depth explaining of the panel settings. I'm subbed and computer is loving the newsetup.
Thank you dude that means a lot :D
That’s so cool 😎.
Does this counter act when I’m playing on high graphics for other games
No, he mentioned conflicts.
Thanks for explaining and giving examples. Earned a like and sub👍
That was funny af my dude, subbed!
Truly hilarious! And very informative, thank you for the education! Question though, the ASO and Trilinear options are performance boosters if turned On, regardless of the amount of boost, and your main point is that they show no visible image quality difference. So if no noticeable image quality difference, why wouldn't you just take the very small boost and turn these On?
That's a really good point haha oops. When I update this tutorial I'll be sure to include what you've said because you're right. Thank you!! :o
He turned himself into a pickle, funniest shit ive ever seen
great humour, and really nice info, thanks man !
Great video thanks!
No channel has made me laugh this much let alone laugh and learn
I've had high performance mode on for 4 months did it damage gpu? temps were idle 53 and while gaming around 56-70 depending on game?
Nope the Nvidia customer service rep said having it on high performance won't damage the GPU so you're fine man. It basically just uses power unnecessarily so it'll be running at 100% the whole time when you have a game or a 3D application open - even when nothing is really happening in the game/program to justify it
Thanks for explaning each option in such detail. GREAT video! Hilarious remarks btw. Keep it up.
Thank you Francisco :D glad it helped!
So if I'm understanding this right I put 16x filtering in the panel and turn it off in any game that has it ? isn't it better to just leave it off turn it on in the games and then just change it on the certain game that doesn't have it?
I like your background, I'm french and if u didn't know tintin is french. Ur welcome. J'adore tes vidéos ! (that was french)
Thanks man!! Also didn't know Tintin was French :o!! it was hella popular here for a long time. I watched it a lot when I was a kid!

Thank you Islandguy :D
Every tutorial I found ppl were only saying do that and check this but you explain everything in detail which was just what I was looking for :)
Thanks Leo! :D
Just stumbled upon this video and found it quite entertaining :) But there are some statements I think are wrong/misleading and I would like to correct:
1. Image sharpening is NOT an upscaling technique meant to be used in tandem with a lower resolution. It is just a sharpening shader. What you are thinking of is DLSS which is only supported by a handful of games. I would suggest using Image sharpening in specific games with some form of AA or DSR which introduces quite a bit of blurriness that can be countered with this setting.
2. FXAA is one of the cheapest AA technologies and affects performance minimally compared to the more expensive SMAA or MSAA. It is a great tool to inject AA in some games (with bad/no AA) with relatively low cost. Blurriness can again be countered by image sharpening.
3. Shader cache is best left on since most games tend to use it correctly and stutter less over time after building the shader cache. I would only turn it off in specific titles that have compatibility issues with that setting.
4. Regarding DSR: Of course it's mostly unusable in expensive Triple-A titles but it's the best looking AA method and works great with older or lightweight games. Also: If you set it to "4.0x" it is far better to turn off smoothness completely (set to 0%) since you are at twice the pixel count of your monitor and edges are fine. The only other (less expensive) setting which makes sense is "2.25x" which results in 1.5 times your resolution and has the least distortions of the other settings (here you can set smoothness to 20%). All in all there is no reason to not have 2.25x and 4.0x activated and choose the DSR resolutions in games where your rig can handle it.
5. Low Latency mode does exactly the opposite of what you are fearing. It helps to *reduce* input lag but can introduce lower framerates or stutter if your CPU cannot keep up. That is why it's difficult to give a general recommendation here. But I would say, try setting it to "on" or even "ultra" at least in competitive games when you have frame rates between 60-100fps. This setting is especially helpful when used with VSync "on".
6. V-Sync: If anything framerate is more consistent with Vsync since it's locked to your Monitor Refresh Rate and the input lag can be countered with "low latency mode". The main problem is when your FPS cannot keep up with your refresh rate since this can introduce stutter. So a general recommendation is again difficult. Choosing "Adaptive" can be a great alternative to "VSync on/off" since it deactivates VSync automatically when you drop below your refresh rate so eliminating the main problem with it. Additionally, "Fast" setting is recommended when your FPS output is constantly greater than your refresh rate to experience G-Sync like performance (no tearing, minimal input lag).
7. G-Sync may be very expensive but most gaming monitors are now at least GSync compatible and noticeably cheaper. I am pointing this out because some settings must be set differently again to utilize that Hardware correctly.
tldr: It often depends on user preferences, hardware and specific games what to set in the nvidia control panel. So understanding what each setting does is a lot more helpful to find the setting that is right for YOU :)
Thanks for the comment dude, really. I appreciate that you spent quite a lot of time writing this and it's filled with useful information. When I'm on my computer I'll save it so I can recheck those specific settings and I'll update this video accordingly. I definitely need to talk about the input latency one because from what I've read and have been told from other people who have commented is that if you have a gsync monitor it's best that this setting is on but if you're using a vsync monitor it can actually have the reverse effect and produce more input lag. Purely dependent on your specific setup but I needed to say that. Anyway dude thanks for the information! I will research more reeeeee
