    "Keep in mind, I have no idea what I'm doing" hahahahah
    This is exactly how I felt when I bought my '64 5 years ago. I just got her back up and running after doing a complete engine rebuild down to splitting the block and putting all new everything inside of it. Honestly, probably the thing I am most proud of doing in my whole life.

    It's been along time since I've work on points but it brings back memory's of cleaning readjusting point's to see if you could a couple more weeks out of them. When you sandpapered the points it may of caused the dwell to lower, because it made the gap wider. Which lowers dwell. Or the dwell is low because of a worn rubbing block on the points. You should attempt to readjust the points to that 32-33* if possible. Longer dwell means longer charge time for the coil or hotter spark. I did notice that when you revved the motor the dwell was dropping, that's a sign of worn bearings in the distributor. A pertronix's point's replacement kit is a good way fix a worn distributor and make the car so much more drivable.

      Thank you so much for the input and advice. I did not catch it at the time of this video, but during a subsequent tuning session I did notice the dwell moving around when revving, as you stated. I switched out the distributor with one that I had on hand that had less play in the bearing. This did seem to remedy the dwell issue. Good eye :) I will have to give the pertronix a try in the future. Thanks! Thank you for watching!

    When you have the distributor cap off, you should lube the centrifugal advance by dripping a few drops of motor oil in the end of the distributor shaft. It should have a felt pad there that can be saturated with oil.

    Tune up specs for all non-turbo '64 engines is 31º-34º dwell, and 14º BTC advance. With the automatic transmission, in Drive, engine idle should be 500-550 rpm.

    Good video. Not sure if anyone else mentioned it but sounds like you need to adjust valves as their is a fair amount of noise from those.

    • @EndWrenchRookie
      @EndWrenchRookie  2 года назад

      Thank you for the comment! I did adjust the valves in a previous video. I was able to get rid of most of the noise but yes there is still some chatter. Not sure. I might have a lifter problem? I think I have the valves as adjusted as I am able to get them. Thanks for the input!

      @@mtjosvold Thanks for the tip! I have definitely noticed that the clatter gets better with added oil. After it sits for a few weeks the lifters make a bunch more noise. Thanks for the comment and for watching!

    Check carefully for vacuum leaks - especially around the carburetor bases. And they HAVE to be sychronized.

    My Corvair was running fine except for intermittent missing in D with foot on brake, and when accelerating from a stop. Turned out I had a weak ignition coil.

    Hello! Did you switch to electronic fuel pump? Any suggestions on brand? I like how You said you have no idea what you’re doing, and just having fun. That’s pretty much me with my Corvair for the last four years, I have no idea what I’m doing but I have all the books and I’m getting it done as I go. Nice looking ride there!

    • @EndWrenchRookie
      @EndWrenchRookie  2 года назад +2

      Hello! Thank you for the comment! Yes, I did convert to an electric fuel pump. I had enough of the mechanical pump game. I would much prefer to stay with stock, but just too many issues. I went with the Facet brand pump. It is very nice and strong. I had to put a regulator on it to keep it from blowing past the needle and seats in the carbs. It has been awesome not constantly leaking fuel or breaking down due to fuel pump problems. If I have one complaint, it is that the pump is very loud. Since you have to mount it just under your feet by the tank, you hear it quit loudly. It thumps like a hammer. Since I have two more corvairs to convert, I will likely try out a "vein" type pump next time. It works with a rotational impeller instead of a hammer so you will hear a humming instead of a thumping. My advice is just don't go cheap. I believe you get what you pay for with pumps. Also a good idea to keep a spare with you incase you have a failure. I am not a fuel pump scientist...but I hope this helps! Thanks for watching!!
