    What was your first car? A MINI or something else?

      First car Mini Clubman then Mini 850 then I had a 1275 gt I did have a couple of others but then I had a Cooper and a 1275 with a 1750 maxi engine for a few days before someone begged me to let them have it, I have tried a couple of these modern things and feel they should have sold them as another brand as they have no mini in them everyone who remembers the real Mini seems to feels the same.

    Respect to the whole team for producing such great quality content in weather like that !. Everyone forgets that the Renault 5 Alpine/Gordini was arguably the first hot hatch as we know them today , it was on the market several months before the Golf GTI in 1976 with sports seats , alloys , front spoiler & 5 speed gearbox unlike the original 4 speed GTI that looked like a basic Golf !.

    Had one now for nearly a year (number 963) and they are great fun and relatively rare here in the UK - 575 l believe- not seen another one yet ! I’m pretty sure FUN is the key factor with a hot hatch !😁😁🇬🇧

    "OK, we need to road test a 300 hp front-wheel drive car with appreciable torque steer, but it's raining pretty heavily." Rest of world: "We'll wait for the rain to stop and the roads to dry off." Brits: "Wheeee!"

    Beautiful little cars these....love them. Especially my little R56...but when driving fast on a highway if there is heavy rain being sat so low ones vision becomes completely obscured. And then if the said highway becomes waterlogged driving through it, the car does pull left or right when ploughing through the water logged area. It is pretty scary notwithstanding its superb handling and all, even when shod with some of the best tyres like the Michelin Pilot Sport 4’s as mine is...moral of the story. This is a car which is best suited ( from a pure enjoyment perspective) for the nice dry summer weather when the roads are nice and dry and the sun is shining and all is well with the world....

    I never owned a mini, but learned to drive in one so it does have a soft spot in my heart. I do think the new BMW owned mini is not really a mini as I know it though it is a very useful modern car that pinches some of the original mini's cuteness. My first car was a Renault 5 TL and it server me well for many years. I then went to GTL then TS and always wanted the GT Turbo but could never quite justify the cost of one. Once I had a family I got the Laguna and had loads of those until the kids left home and then splashed out on an E-Class. Now I am a firm Merc driver, just waiting for the all electric E-Class to become second hand (can't afford a new one).

      The first generation of BMW MINI was originally co-developed with the Rover group and hundreds of Rover engineers. It’s about as close as you will get.

    • @Wallygjs
      @Wallygjs 3 года назад

      @@rare6499 Nah, they are still too big and heavy to be a mini. They are like all these retro rebuilds like the Fiat 500 they are just a re-imagining of a classic, but the modern safety requirements and everything else mean they have to be over weight monsters compared to the original.

    Love the ingenious way you use that terrible British weather to your advantage to give us entertainment love it I'm not a great fan on the new Mini as from my response in your first car question I've got a lot of fun memories of the original. But any sports version like the GP or the Works I do actually quite like because I think that makes sense for the new generation it gives it a purpose and some originality. I'm looking for a job I'd like to do the same thing but with modified cars especially JDM ones which I own let me know if there's any interviews I'll bring my rain hat👇🤣👍

    Well, in Portugal I didn't see many Minis. I saw very few of them. But those who had them hardly didn't speed up. It was a car that wanted the driver to race with it. When I was 11, I saw once a guy driving a Mini and, from nothing, just did a Bootleg. Of course, it may be very dangerous in the middle of the city. But surely he loved the car enough to do that.

    The GR Yaris is the better to choice for those looking for a small fast car - in these wet conditions the Mini would not see where the Yaris had gone, the Mini really struggles being FWD

    • @davidprodger9694
      @davidprodger9694 3 года назад

      You could debate this argument, all four wheel drive cars are better in the wet. However, put the mini GP on a dry track against the Yaris, I can assure you that the mini will win.

    • @relentlesspursuit6894
      @relentlesspursuit6894 3 года назад

      @@davidprodger9694 I very much doubt it - I'm sure track comparisons will follow! As 99% of drivers do not go on track, having a good track car is a bit pointless. The GR is the superior car across the board, and far more special!

      @davidprodger9694 3 года назад

      @@relentlesspursuit6894 fair comment. However, please remember the mini GP3 was marketed and engineered to be a track day car: therefore, a high percentage of the 3,000 owners of this car will have purchased it to take it on a track.
