I love Mini's. On my second now. For the argument for them getting larger, it's not because BMW owns the company, its because the safety standards are changing and require things such as the top of the door being a certain height off the ground for side impacts, and the headlights need to be a minimum distance from the ground etc. It's not BMW's fault, it's the DOT. Loved the video! learned alot!

If it's not an original Mini, it's not a Mini at all. I've had 5 originals and 1 new Mini and the new Mini is an unreliable, costly, overweight, boring car, a perverted copy of the British design (and also the WORST car I've ever bought and driven). How can they be called Minis, they're as big as a VW Golf!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Mini confused the bejeezus out of all the rivals when first launched because nobody could figure out how they were selling them so cheaply?
They basically sold Minis at a loss at launch. To undercut all competition. That's going HARD.

The original Mini was my first car when I was 18 and what fun it was, definitely by the seat of your pants driving though. You could floor it around corners, it gripped the road like a limpet but it certainly had a bounce. I've owned more refined cars since but that little car was definitely the most fun I've owned. One day I'll buy another, 30 years later it still brings a smile to my face.

I am the second owner of a 6-spd 2005 R53 that I bought in 2009 and still drive daily. It has won multiple SCCA autocross class championships (when it was underclassed in G Stock). As of October 2020, it has 144,000 miles and it still going very strong. Never scary, always predictable, fun as hell, built to last, and still an icon. I would even call it collectible...SAVE THE MANUALS!!! (Transmissions, that is.) The fastest I have ever gone in my R53 is 130mph, with room for more. I have no engine mods, just a catback exhaust. Most of the mods I have done are the shocks/struts/camber plates and suspension bushings. The supercharger is bullet proof...and there's never the possibility of turbo lag. This was a great video. I learned something new.

Maui_ Kawi I’ve had a very different experience. It’s been in our family since 2005 and it’s been good to us. Yes, any maintenance or repairs are often more expensive than my other cars because literally everything requires removing the front end, but it’s largely been a very reliable car. Granted it still only has 70k miles on it which is very low for a 13 year old car, but it’s frequently driven very hard and i’ve taken it to a good number of autocross events over the last few years. I am, however, anal about scheduled and preventative maintenance so that definitely helps reliability.

Random fact, the most British car ever, was designed by a Greek. Isigonis was a refugee of Greek decent. My first car was a 1975 classic mini rebuilt with a 1.3lt engine. Most fun I've ever had in a car. It handled so well, it actually didn't kill me, despite pushing way past the limit. It was like driving a go kart in the city :) You feel like there is only a chassis and a tin box on top of it. The doors were so thin you could not fit a regular audio speaker. Had to put a spacer in between. I also had the exhaust pipe fall off while driving and being on a date with the girl of my dreams. I remember tying to the bumper to make it home. Next day I cut it off and drove it for a month sounding like a dragster. Also fitted a customized filter from a water pump for the air intake lol. Good old times, when you could fuck with the carb with a screw driver and no need for laptops. I regret selling that car and hope to buy a '98 at some point. The new S is really cool and fun too, but nothing like the classic.

      Jman 1
Ford tried to buy Ferrari in '50s
Ferrari was like "vaffanculo not for sale"
Then for was like "well fcuk you too we'll beat you in your on game" which was the prestigious 24 hours of le mans race
So then of course Ford started developing a racecar with a guy named Carol Shelby. They took the chassis of a Lola mk6, stuck a big burbling American V8 and thus, the Ford GT mk1 prototype was born. They took the developed GT mk2 to LeMans in 1966 they had a 1 2 3 finish, decimating the Ferraris. To celebrate this victory they made road legal versions from '04 to 06. But in 2016, they went back to race in LeMans in the gte class and AGAIN they were competing against Ferrari and AGAIN they won.. so to celebrate their win in 2016 and to mark their 1st win they had 50 years ago in 1966, they made road legal ford GT's and went on production in December of 2016, and they plan on making them till 2020. Soo that's where we're at now. Fin.
Hope you read this till the end.

I've got an '08 base. Got it from a salvage title after it was fixed after a nasty side swipe. There still some scratches and dents of course, but it's amazing how big of an impact a mini can survive. The bodywork was repaired, and we bought it. Granted, it does need repairs ofted, but that was likely due to previous neglect.
The thing about it though, is that it's insanely tough. It's survived a whole lot of crap and it's still driving to this day, not a spot of rust either.
I probably need to tighten the steering a bit and get new shocks to make those a little firmer, it floats a bit, which is nice for michigan roads where I drive, it behaves insanely well, has very nimble handling, and is very modest and unassuming until you hit the sport button. Then the wheel tightens, the shift points change, the throttle gets more responsive, and it starts talking. My dad's mini roadster S pops and growls and burbles in sport mode. Mines a base but it'll kinda snarl a bit in sport.
And don't get me started on how it feels to drive it. Its s u b l i m e. It always puts a smile on my face. Plus the MINI community is a fun thing too.

Lewis A H have a Mini Cooper but I looked at a JCW, only shame was the body work. It was too rusty. But I love my mini (Billie -Jean) every bit as much as my family or my pets!

I thought that was how everyone said jaguar

Jaguar, the word and animal, is a Portuguese word. So the 'american' way is saying jaguar is more accurate.

Like to add to the etymology. Original was yaguára. So yes the "american" way is more accurate.

However, though it may be named after the fast cat which is Jag-wharr or whatever, in English it is still “jag-u-ar” as that is how the founders intended it be said.
So although you are saying that it is Portuguese, it is still better to say it in English, pronouncing it how it is written.
      Comprende?

Loved the vid. I used to modify minis in the 1980s. The Australian Minis had subtle differences to the English ones way too numerous to mention here If anyone wanted a fast engine they came to me. I did it for the love of building engines (and a slab {24 cans of beer}).
I had a 1975 Mini Moke with 13 inch wheels (Australia only)in which I put a Mk1 Cooper 'S' engine and gearbox which I had modified to race specifications. Now a 1275 equiped Moke is 110 KG lighter than a Cooper 'S' so this thing went like stink in the suburbs but top speed was restricted by the Moke's flat windscreen and front. To stop the Moke I used power assisted 'big wheel" disc brakes. It used to break one drive shaft and blow one head gasket per year. I sold it for a pittance and bought a Triumph TR7 (Mistake) in the mid 1990s as I was working shiftwork at ABC Radio and had to drive down King street to get there and I got sick of drunks trying to climb in to the passenger seat next to me.
