I actually scared myself with my own Vic one time. I bought a Mercury Grand Marquis from a used car lot in the middle of nowhere, so on the way home I decided to test it out on the old country road and see what it can do. I looked up in my rearview mirror and had a mini heart attack when I saw a white Crown Victoria. It was in that moment that I realized I was a dumbass, because my friend was following me back from the lot in my p71. I still feel like an idiot three years later.

Like most 22 year olds, I bought a used mercury grand marquis when it came time to replace my first car. I put over 200,000 miles on it over the next 10 years with total repair costs of $322.07 for an alternator and a tensioner. That’s it. Without question it was the most dependable car I ever owned. Looking back on it I’m actually getting a little misty eyed remembering the day it died. My own overconfidence replacing the thermostat inflicted a $1600 wound and I couldn’t justify putting that kind of money in to a car that was worth less than $500 even in superb condition. The panther platform was such an incredible machine I really think Ford could dig the stamping dyes out of the landfill, start building them again completely unchanged and sell a shitload of them. It’s a struggle to stop myself from buying another one whenever a clean example gets traded in at the dealership where I work.
Ford really captured lightening in a bottle with that one.

Head lamps set on fire and windows/locks are becoming faulty. I love the hell out of this car and plan on replacing the transmission and modding the engine to give the car the balls it deserves ($10k 400+ hp). If you don’t go my way though with 2-3k in repairs car will last you till 200,000 easy. Fun as hell never broke down on me already 20,000 miles deep.

I know it's hard to explain, and probably harder to imagine, but these cars are just fun to drive. They don't exactly turn on a dime, and parking can be an adventure, but there's just something special about hurtling a gigantic, heavy car with just the press of the gas pedal. The sensation of speed with something this big and heavy makes you feel like a god. And you can fit, like, four bodies in the trunk.

I owned a 2002 marquis with dark tinted windows. No one would ever cut me off or pass me on the highway. When I was bored I would speed up and get behind people who drove like asses just to see them quickly slow down and move to the right lane. I also had numerous occasions when cops passed by and nodded at me thinking I was driving an unmarked cop car. I also had people standing on sidewalks give me the finger thinking I was a cop or a cab that refused to pick them up. I lost count of how many kids at my college would quickly throw on their seat belts when I drove by. The fact that the panther body is ingrained in people's psyche as a cop car gave me the most unique driving experience of any car I ever owned.... at least until one of the wheels literally broke off the car in a parking lot and I junked it.

These were among the last sedans you could get with the shifter on the steering column and no center console on the floor. Tons of leg room. Could even seat three people in the front (literally had three seat belts in the front). I live in a densely populated area and I see Panther platform cars all over the place every day (more Grand Marquis and Town Cars than Crown Vics probably) even though they haven’t been made in ten years. Amazing. And they’re usually in decent shape.

I just bought a second vic, it is a GEM! It is a 2011 police interceptor (p7b), it only has 36k miles and 293 idle hours! I did not get it for super cheap, but this thing is almost brand new. The body is in perfect shape, no scratches or dents, the interior is mint. I plan on holding on to this car for years to come. I had been looking for a low mile p71 for a while now that isn't crazy expensive I am so happy I finally found one. It came with the steel wheels & center caps, LED dual spotlights, a go rhino push bar, still has bars in the rear windows, laptop mount, and a bunch of other stuff! It also has cruise control which I was very pleased to see lmao.

Little did Ford know that in the years following 2011 (after they discontinued the CVPI) men in their 20's-30's would still be drooling over the Crown Vic, like myself, a lad from the UK who wishes he was privileged enough to be an American and owned one of these V8 beasts!
They are the staple of American engineering, fast, loud, mean, muscle and those who are supporters of law enforcement love the CVPI even more, it is an iconic vehicle that will forever be engrained into the history of America.

Had it about 4 years, another great car. Now I have an 07 Grand Marquis. I don't like it as much as my first two Panthers, but it's still pretty much the exact same car. Just doesn't seem as comfortable. I think my next car will be a Town Car or an older Panther of some sort. I really think I will only ever own Panthers.

I've driven pretty much anything you see on the road today from a humble prius to some ludicrous sports cars like a twin turbo v8 amg or a 700hp GTR, mercedes C glass, GLE, GLS, some beemers, trucks, old diesle, stangs and all that goodie. And I can tell you that my favorite car is my crown vic. The fan boy element plays a part but I just love how it looks and handles. Some people say its like a boat and clumsy, which is true compared to all the tight germany cars out there today, but personally I love the feel of driving. It's heavy so slow acceleration and lots of weight shift in cornering, but also very, very stable on high ways. I brought the thing to, well I'll let you guess, and she does not budge at all. I like how she tilts in corners, the live axle and watt linkage is pretty outdated compared to cars with independent suspension and fancy sensors, but along with the heavy frame it's a soft, pampering car ride that I just can't get enough. I do all the work my self sans inspection, clean her twice a week and there were only a handful of people who touched the steering wheel, besides me. This is what cars looked like in my dictionary. 60 miles commute daily and couple trips to other states, got her for less than a month and already put 3000 miles on her, never had a hicup. Turns right on, engine idles buttery smooth like the first day she rolled off the line. Probably due to it being a postal security service vehicle, instead of a K-9 or a responder which probably been driven much harder. I just can't get enough of it.
BTW I am 23 years old. And fuck yes I want a grand Marquis. I would guess that when people like me die that's probably when these cars will truly start to disappear from the road. But as for now, I don't know about the other ones, but mine's still running strong. I'm giving her a lot of love and care, got under the chassis and undercoat everything I see(well not the tires and shocks of course), hand clean engine bay, pull all the carpets off to de-rust the floor(the left driver side was actually pretty bad), 91 and above only, tore apart doors to re do wiring and seals. If she needs a trans or engine rebuild in the future I will do that as well, as for now the tranny and engine feels like a new car. Educating myself a bit everyday about the car to make sure I have enough knowledge if it ever comes to it.
My previous car is a v6 mustang, not a very responsible driver back then, constantly flipping people off and swirving lanes because I thought it's cool. The crown vic also made me a more responsible and better driver, not only because I care about the car so much, but also because the responsibility once belonged to the car somehow got into me as well. Still give out some fingers occasionaly to those unfixable ass holes but overall much better driver. Oh boy there were a lot of responsibilies on these vics, now she knocked some into me. Good stuff.
"You don't mess with another man's vehicle, it's just against the rules."------Vincent Vega

The main reason that Crown Vics were favored for fleet use was the modular design of the power train, which was possible by the panther platform. In this way, fleet units could be driven a couple million miles by allowing easy removal, rebuilding, and replacement of the power train components as needed.

    • @dragonslayer-ho8ew
      @dragonslayer-ho8ew 11 месяцев назад

The word modular doesn't mean what you think it means. The "modular" power trains were modular in the sense that ford didn't have to retool their factories every time they wanted to do something different. it was a manufacturing term more than anything

Last year some family wanted to give it a home to a family member and I, 17 at the time grabbed it. That's my second car and it's a fantastic daily driver. I put a 600cfm holley on, hei distributor, bored the cylinders, put a nice comp cam in with a super quiet muffler. Must comfortable car ever. It's a 2 door as well. Its funny that AFTER the crown vic is discontinued that now 18-30 year olds want them mostly the interceptor and the crown vic gets this massive internent cult following.
I think ford really missed out not making a ford badged performance version other than the interceptor. Mercury marauder is badass but the problem with mercury is it will always be seen as an old person car brand

They did have a performance vehicle. A company called Ford Performance Vehicles (FPV) in Australia made the FPV F6 Typhoon and GT R-Spec and normal Ford Falcons with Barra engines.
Just seems like Ford didn't like its Australian subsidiary making a better car and wouldn't export them. Full sized family sedans that could easily compete with Mustangs, Hellcats etc. Even GM killed of the Holden Commodore (Chevy SS).... What's with the salty American car companies nowadays

its too bad we didnt get the modern falcon in N america though. My dad has a 60s falcon and a modern version with a fast engine would kick ass in fact he swapped a v8 into his when he was younger and it apparently was insanely fast you couldnt fit a super massive v8 under there (back in the days when displacement was the only way to get more hp but it had a super good power to weight ratio

Ford's gonna stop making sedans and hatchbacks because they can't figure out how to build a car people want. Wake uo, we want Crown Vics!! The reason Chrysler has been crushing the American sedan market? Dodge Charger. Despite the drawbacks we do want fullsize sedans still. There's still a market for landyachts.

I would imagine a video about Crown Vics should have mentioned that the old ones came with the same 5.0 engine from the Mustang GT and was also offered as a wagon. Also the name "Police Interceptor" which is quite a staple on Crown Vics was never mentioned, specially since Police Interceptor (or P71) are quite beefier and have tons of upgrades compared to regular Crown Vics. Also failed to mention that the Marauders came with the Cobra's DOHC engine, which is quite worth mentioning instead of just saying "redesigned intake".

Not Cobra but Mach 1, it was the aluminum block naturally aspirated DOHC 4.6L that the 2003 - 2004 Mach 1's had (sadly the cast 6 bolt crank instead of the forged 8 bolt though.)
The 2003 - 2004 Cobra engine was a much more stout beast sporting a cast iron block and forged internals.

I picked up a sweet 2011 P7B that was one of theb last made - July 2011. Original owner was for Fountain County Indiana Sherrif's department and was the Sheriff's car. It never had roof light bar, never had a patrician, full carpeting, cloth seats front and rear, and factory AM/FM/CD player. All the maintenance records came with the car and I bought it from an dealer in Indiana that does a lot of decommissioning of police cars. I got it cheap because it had a rear end growl (pinion bearing) and I rebuilt the rear end, then installed a Rhino push bar and installed LED fog lights on the bar. It fools everyone thinking it still is a police car. Even the local police think so.
What some people don't realize is the P71/P7B Police Interceptor Vics are a different animal than other Panther platform cars. For P71/P7B units, the rear end is the same that was on the full sized Broncos (think OJ). Sway bars are different. Struts are different. Control arms are different. Intake is different, exhaust is different. And the top speed ECM limit is different.

As much as it sucks to not have your grandfather, supe that bad boy up like he would'v wanted! Just remember, the Police Interceptor is a LOT different underneath than the Grand Marquis. Do your research depending on year. Some specific differences include
      - 04+ CVPI had a new 80mm MAF sensor and intake. Need computer tune to get that to work
      - All CVPIs got dual exhaust.
-Spring rates and ride heights are different between the two
-Driveshaft is aluminum in CVPI vs steel in civilian cars. Also tailshaft and transmission output shaft are longer
Thats just a few of the big ones. My plan for my Mercury is to get a CVPI parts car and swap what is needed
