The packaging genius was that the gearbox was positioned under the engine and not to the side. This allowed for a compact engine compartment, which in turn allowed for the amazing interior space for a short car
I recently bought an 86. It's parked in the garage next to a car with 30 times the power to weight but it somehow never fails to make me smile. You have to drive one to fully understand it. You can drive it like a total idiot and people just smile and wave. I commute in a 911, come home, and hop in the Mini to go to the store. There's just something magical about it.
I recently bought a British Leyland Mini Clubman with a 1275. I’m in the process of resorting it on a RUclips channel called the reengineer I tell you what besides Richard Hammond this is the only good thing to come out of Birmingham, they’re utterly brilliant
Great vid👍as James May said it’s one of cars need to drive before you die. Yes I have driven one it was Grandma and past on to me. Leyland S, Mr bean green with cream brown interior was my favourite manual car I have driven. Driving on wet days was difficult because water would splash up into manifold and stall engine. Roman you look funny like my brother been so tall LOL 😂 Legend of car👍good times
The Original mini Cooper, engineered by John Cooper, had twin fuel tanks. Easily recognised by the fuel filler cap on the offside rear. Lovely car . My first car was a 1967 850cc Mini. Hand painted in yellow before I acquired it.
I love the fact you struggle with left handed stick shift! I was amazed Tommy said on another episode that only 18%of American can drive stick! I would said it's the reverse in UK as we all learn with a manual.
The other defense that you have in a potential crash is that you probably could maneuver away from a front on collision than a bigger American car being that it is so small and nimble
I had one like this it was the best car ever to drive just a fantastic drivers car and the 1.3 is more than enough to rocket the car around. There's faster cars etc but I miss it
Old MG’s, I’d of cut off my big toe to have had one in high school, even with the old ugly American mandated bumpers, the Britts have made some very pretty automobiles! One day while working in Pocahontas Co. WV about 7 or 8 MG and Triumph owners from New Hamshire parades by, a while later one of the ole gals had broken down, never have I seen a bunch of happier old guys working on a car!
My favorite car Ever since mr bean and especially on playstation grand turismo I have a tattoo of a garage of mini coopers, if anyone has one for trade I have a 2012 lifted jeep wrangler with 5 new Mickey Thompson baja Mtz tires never on its side super low miles just under 34k I need a mini in my life
It's just transverse lol. That's not special. 90% of car now are transverse front wheel drive. Maybe it was rare in the 60's but...it's just transversely mounted! Also, everything breaking, that's how you know it's British craftsmanship.
A proper Mini... Once driven, never forgotten.

Kevin Carter You commute in a 911. Ooooohhhh.
This was our family car at one point in the early 90s . Me and my sister in the back and parents up front and they were not slim people!!

Black sabbath?
I have one in the same colour with a sunroof - great fun on country roads. Love it!

I have this exact model of mini, right down to the colour scheme and interior. Official name for it is the Rover Mini Cooper Classic.
that's actually the 2000 model, you can tell it because it had a coloured coded dash instead of the wooden dash.
I know Im kinda randomly asking but do anyone know of a good website to watch new movies online?
@Brock Victor try FlixZone. You can find it by googling =)

I wish I had one it looks so fun to drive I like small cars like that
I've had way too much fun in these.

The matching steering wheel for this car is much slimmer.
The Volkswagen Beetle's iconic British cousin.
So fun this mini.
“Roomy” is a stretch. Haha.
Great design sure, but she’s still a small car.
Absolutely full of character though!

Mr. Bean had a 1977 Mini 1000.
Didn't know for 40 years they kept the same design.
I had one like this it was the best car ever to drive just a fantastic drivers car and the 1.3 is more than enough to rocket the car around. There's faster cars etc but I miss it

It's cute 😍
Mini Cooper Rover 1.3i like car Mr. Bean steering right from British cars in United kingdom.
Mr. Bean had a 1977 Leyland Cars Mini 1000.

hermoso auto, prefiero un auto así en vez de uno nuevo.
its a CHICK MAGNET
Sir your GPS location
Sideways huh? like every front wheel drive car for ever?!
It was the first tranverse engine car
HONDA VEZEL BEST.

@freepieanchipsgarage Its original. Its a design classic. I'd love to have one, their prices are on the up and up.
Maybe you should not be watching 😅😅😅, you seem to miss the point
They're crap, but I love little British cars! Maybe the triumph tr6 is my favorite. Who couldn't love an old mini?!
