  • The 2020 Mini GP3 is the most extreme and bonkers Mini you can buy in 2020. With no back seats, a track focused setup, 306 bhp this Mini makes you keep very focused on the road. Is this the ultimate drivers car from Mini ?

    Great to see you enjoyed this little monster. I'm one of the lucky ones that got one and it makes me smile every mile!👍

      I was not pushing the car any where near it’s limits and it was still really enjoyable. The amount of people asking about the car was surprising and especially when a police car pulls up and then asks to have a look at the car lol. As an owner do you feel my summary of the car was correct ?

    • @paulcurran9554
      @paulcurran9554 4 года назад +1

      @@DamoDrives your summary was spot on. It sure does draw alot of attention and it's a hoot to drive. I've pushed it as far as I dare on a few local mountain passes and it really does reward you. Torque steer takes some getting used to especially when overtaking. It's a mental machine and brilliant that a manufacturer produced something that isn't wrapping you in cotton wool and numbing driving.😉

    You tell the story of this Mini GP very well. It seems to be a car misunderstood by so many, but clearly a car to make people smile 😊 once they have a chance to experience its character and outright ability.

    • @DamoDrives
      @DamoDrives  Год назад

      I think it needs to have a few changes to the suspension to make it more compliant on normal roads. If possible a gearbox remap to make it a bit more snappy in the lower gears but generally a good car and you are right you need to stay focused 😂

    Great review Damian. Quality car the GP3 if you are in the market for a track focused purchase. Boot space with no rear seats also makes it practical if there are only two of you. Just getting aquatinted with my new 3 pot Clubman, the GP3 would scare the life out of me, in a good way. Look forward to the next video. P.S. I have been working my way through the back-catalogue, not just MINI content either. 😉 Keep up the good work.

      It is a properly mad little mini and I understand why people love the GP so much. Glad you are enjoying the Clubman as well 😊. Thanks for the supporting the channel and enjoying the content 👏👏

    Great review Damo! Had a biposto for a bit... well no rear seats in my Fiat! Have an F56 Cooper S with an Eventuri intake.... close as I will get to the GP3 😉 enjoyed the video, enjoyed your drive, you lucky chap!

      Thanks Keith glad you enjoyed it, I think the modified F56 I reviewed is so much better than the GP3 in fact any Mini I have driven. Really pleased I got to experience it and you get so many looks in the GP3 as it looks mad lol

      Glad you enjoyed the video , the wheel arches look better in the flesh, they are certainly not very subtle but feel it adds to the OTT look of the car. So many people pointing at the car and especially when sitting in traffic. Wish I had longer with the car but really pleased I got a day.

    I had an opportunity to get an allocation a while ago but ended up just getting a 2019 JCW. The only reason was the fact that it didn't have back seats. Looks super cool though! I think the first gearshift might be a traction control thing, my MINI does that until I turn off TC.

    As most Minis have a bit of lag, I found that merely putting in a good cold air intake system takes care of the problem, or at least it did with mine.

    • @DamoDrives
      @DamoDrives  3 года назад

      This was not turbo lag it’s more how the gearbox is mapped. It held on to 1st gear for a little to long , it felt like the gearbox was having a little rest before it carried on doing its job

      It is quite a firm ride, no boot and a little noisy so if you can get over these then yes. Drones a bit on the motorway but it’s a cool car

  • @chefinavan1
    @chefinavan1 4 года назад +2

    There’s quite a lot of 300 bhp f56minis about due to remapping , it would be nice to see a tuned f56cooper s or Jcw vs a gp3 drag race. I have an 1150 kg f56cooper s sport at 260bhp 400nm and the power to weight is 226bhp per tonne whereas the gp3 is 244bhp per tonne that’s only 18bhp more , I’m sure with a better map I’d be faster 😀

    • @DamoDrives
      @DamoDrives  4 года назад +2

      I think with the GP3 it is not just the power it’s the overall setup of the car certainly in terms of the chassis setup. I have reviewed a few modified Minis as well and this felt very very firm. A good friend of mine has a mini roadster which is 270bhp and that has a LSD, coilovers and more and the GP3 felt even more edgy than that which I was surprised about. There will be faster and probably better handling modified mini’s out there but there is something special about driving and I guess owing a GP and I love the looks of the car even more so in person (a lot of people pointing or stopping and asking questions lol)

    • @chefinavan1
      @chefinavan1 4 года назад

      @@DamoDrives I'd love to have a go in one & personally I love the looks. But if I had one I'd get it done in a lairy wrap or even crazy paint scheme .... Green or orange , maybe yellow 🤔
      Yes I get the chassis thing and id like to see the gp3 parts available to fit to non gp3 to improve the handling ..... I opted for the free/inclusive sports suspension when specing my car , and although a little high ride height its certainly firm , and if you blast it through bends and over bumps it does very well

      Might be able to answer this question........I own a GP3 and have owned several F56 and F54 JCWs as well as the excellent Mini JCW Challenge which was running 280bhp.........
      It’s not even close. The GP3 is absolutely bonkers, the acceleration (especially once on the move) is warp speed!!

    Slush box sounds terrible. Evo magazine seem to agree. Such a strange choice for a small track focused car. Even though they chose an auto I'm suprised at its slurring shifting, especially when BMW have some of the best flappy paddle cog shifters in the business on the M's.

    • @DamoDrives
      @DamoDrives  3 года назад

      The gearbox is fine once you are in 2nd just does not seems to be a bit of lag but I think it was designed in that way to get the power down (gearbox remap would probably fix that)
