    That's a good idea, you could get 4 of those cameras and a solar power bank and hot glue it all in a Tupperware box and set it on top your car every night to see all directions.

    Immediately became very interested as I have that exact same camera. It came with an FPV drone kit I bought. The headset with monitor for it was about 45 and the drone with controller was about 50 so a total of $95. Eachine VR 006 goggles and DM002 drone

    Love this video, really helpful. I totally relate to the desire / need for cam security. Going to check your list to see if you've made one showing how to set up cameras 3 & 4 (side views). Sure wish I'd had one for an accident a while back. No witnesses except me, whereas the other guy had a passenger to help out. The desire further reinforced on my first Prius trial run recently, two weeks, 6000 miles. Great time, missed the cam security. Thanks again!

    • @timdillen
      @timdillen  6 лет назад +3

      6,000 miles! Wow! What a great way to travel and so very inexpensive. Yes, the camera does give a sense of security. I ended up not getting to the side cameras yet. It will be easy - if you made the windows inserts - use the tiny ones for the side windows. I took my scissors and drilled a hole just big enough the for lens to pass through. The pressure of the hole on the lens kept it in place without anything else. I'm working on my next project which is solar for the Prius. Waiting on parts. Thanks for your great comments and for watching!

    Very Intriguing. Appreciate the shared experience, in your (experiments). The only Bummer for me thus far , is that I’m trying to find a camera like yours, but to be mounted on exterior of vehicle. Looking for Small, IR, water (resistant), and Motion Sensing. Nothing yet .....
    I’ve read that narrower field of view on camera yields better resolution. My goals for mounting are in each side view mirror housing, front grill, rear license plate. I’m still reading up on which frequency will suit me best. Thanks for the Vid !

    I recognize that Wal Mart! Great spot for stealth camping, although most people do it openly there. Better than paying $200/night at that Holiday Inn down the road!

    • @timdillen
      @timdillen  6 лет назад

      It's a nice safe Walmart. I don't think they run anyone off. I found the best spot was with the rental vans at the Enterprise rental section of the parking lot. They keep a lot of vans on hand for the camps. Great place to stay and enjoy the forest. Yes, the room rates are terrible here in-season.

      Thank you! Actually the window inserts are pretty involved to make but after the first one they are easier. Just keep trying new projects. I started with zero knowledge and skills and just bungled my way through. I did not show all the failures. You may want to check out the security system I did for the Panorama Van. It is simpler and really about the same cost. It is easier to set up.

    I am intrigued by these hobby shop type projects. Doing this would be a risk of failing as I'm not as good as him at electronics do-it-yourself....it is funny that manufacturers haven't come out with a similar easy to setup device. The closest thing I know of is my Arlo camera system but it is AC- home based.

      I tried to find a small 12v or 5v system on the market with a small monitor and they just don't exist. The Zosi system is 110v and takes up a large space. I was into drones for quite a while and had a lot of parts sitting around and realized I could put it all together with a USB outlet. The monitor was converted with an old power supply. I think it would be great if someone put together a compact system for RVs and cars. Glad you enjoyed the video and thanks for watching!

I hope you added 3 more cameras, and did a video about it and showed us how to switch channels, and set up the channels for each camera.

    Thanks for the videos. Really enjoying them. Wondering if you could somehow get the same monitoring by tapping into a dashcam and the backup camera. Would be awesome if you could.

    • @timdillen
      @timdillen  7 лет назад

      KDog Thanks a good idea. The backup camera has a decent picture (reversed image). The better 5.8g monitors usually have a video in so if the wires could be located and the camera stays powered on I guess you could tap in from behind the tailgate panel. So it’s possible. Thanks for your comments and for watching!

      How do these do in night time / low light situations?
      Do you know if any monitors that output Bluetooth to an iPhone / android app that would allow me to view the various channel/cameras on my phone?
      I've been planning a similar multi camera system but would like it to go to my phone. I'm thinking have the cameras connected to a raspberry pi and then have that output to my phone. Combined with a small solar setup, hard drive, and a hotspot, it's possible to have a 24/7 multi cam, continuous loop and live stream camera setup.

    • @timdillen
      @timdillen  7 лет назад

      Brn Wnthl I believe there is a plug in receiver for android phones. Sadly not for iPhone. The unit lets you receive 5.8g transmissions and converts to android. Do a search on Ebay for 5.8g Android. It should come up. They are pretty cheap.

    Can you show us the original battery set up you have for your surveillance camera system with all of the USB set ups? I believe the second battery you set up was for the microwave but I would love to see how you set up the original battery setup used to run the camera and monitor with.

    • @timdillen
      @timdillen  7 лет назад

      Jessica Sampson I can see how I confused people. I ended up taking the electrical panel 12v wire off the primary 12v battery and ran it across the back of the car to the secondary battery. So microwave, inverter and my 12v panel are now off the secondary 12v battery.
      I added a cheap manual disconnect switch to the second battery just for testing purposes. I leave the two 12v batteries connected all the time unless it is at night and I want to use the bed heater and have the car in the OFF position which is rare. By keeping them connected the car keeps them both nicely charged.
      Make sure you use adequate wire sizes to do all this. You will need to check with someone more knowledgeable than me. Hope that helps.

    • @jessicagypsyjane
      @jessicagypsyjane 7 лет назад +1

      I see now, thank you this helps! I could not tell that from the video but I am learning! Thanks for the quick reply and for letting me ask questions on your setup. I will be working on this next after the window shades which I went and fetched all the stuff for yesterday, so today is hot glue gun day. Thanks again!
      I need to get a 12v panel also, but I am sure you have the link for that online?

    • @timdillen
      @timdillen  7 лет назад

      Jessica Sampson The surveillance system does plug into the usb switch strip which then plugs into a 12 cigarette receptical. That receptical then goes into the 12v fuse panel. I think the bed heater video might show better how to wire in a 12v plug into the panel. If not I’ll try to show that upcoming. Then that panel now goes to the second 12v battery.

    Can you set this up to view it with your cell phone even in doors?

    • @timdillen
      @timdillen  6 лет назад +1

      There is an attachment to view 5.8g video on your smartphone but it only works on Android and I have an iPhone. Do a search on "5.8g Android" and you should see the attachment. The distance will depend on how much power the transmitter is putting out so yes, you could easily see the feeds from your Android phone from quite a distance if you use the 2000mw amp - maybe a mile or more might be possible.

    • @timdillen

      I usually don't leave them on for extended periods but have not had a problem. I have a switch handy and if I hear something I just turn the switch on. The cameras come up instantly then turn them off to save power.

    Can you set this up tp record, and could it simultaneously record from multiple cameras?

    • @timdillen
      @timdillen  7 лет назад

      Stan Winston Good questions. You can purchase a 5.8g monitor that has a DVR built in, most of the 7” monitors have that feature.
      I did a good bit of research on splitting the screen so I could see all 4 cameras. There isn’t an option with a 5.8g low voltage setup. Wish there was. It can be done but you have to go to a residential setup. They usually have a hard drive to record to. The problem I had with that is I would have a bulky head unit (so little space) and have to deal with 110v. It would also involve taking apart their big cameras and just extracting the small camera inside. It’s all very doable and I might go down that road. I’m going to start with this system because it is so easy to install and uses almost no power. But I love to tinker so we shall see. Thanks for watching.

    • @timdillen
      @timdillen  7 лет назад +1

      Stan Winston ...the 5.8g monitors can only record one camera.

    Since these aren't night vision cameras, how good can you see someone outside at night? I supposed most of the time there will be enough light that you can at least tell if a person is close to the vehicle.
