i was waiting for some one to put a home security system in a car and i want to thank you to prove me that it could be done and you are very knowledgeable about what you showing
thank you so much
thanks again coolest vangineer in the self build vanplanet. your the best!
I hope you check out the ambulance Build I am currently working on. It’s coming along nicely.
@@timdillen i would definitely I always learn alot from you and i am very grateful.
If you do decide to add a hard drive to your system, you might want to investigate the differences between regular consumer grade drives and drives design specifically for surveillance systems. Drives like the Western Digital Purple series tend to cost a more than drives meant for desktop PCs, but they’re engineered for 24/7 duty cycle, higher heat tolerance, steady low throughput, etc.
Thanks for sharing your videos. I really enjoy them.
Good point. I was not aware of the difference. Thanks for posting this information. Glad you are enjoying the videos!
You might want to investigate using SSD, a hard drive that has no moving parts. Bouncing a hard drive around while you're driving has a chance of causing it to fail.
I love the content on your channel! You’re doing stuff that no one else is doing :)
Thank you! Glad you are enjoying the videos. Thanks for your comment!
Thanks I really enjoy your "practical engineering"
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed watching the video.
I sae a video about a man living in a van on the road and I loved that so much that it makes me want to do it
I got hooked the same way and now has become a bit of an obsession - at least it is a fun one that provides me a great economical place to live. Hope the bug gets you. I didn't know anything either so started on my Prius. Check out my first videos on the Prius build. You can do it to any car. You can start with what is sitting in your driveway. Each little project will make you bolder to try a bit bigger one. RUclips is an amazing source of knowledge. I will subscribe to see the videos you post someday about it. Start with figuring out how to make a sleeping area.
That is something I was looking forward to search to put into my Santa Fe minicamper. You have done all the work for me THANKS !
Thank you! For $90 I was amazed at how much you get. I comes with tons of wire - 4 x 65'. That took up a bit of room to store but you can put it where you don't need to get to it. Let me know how it works for you.
Thank you
You are welcome!
Your van build is amazing!!!
I wish you would have finished the videos. I never saw the finished product. How easy would it have been to put the back of the couch the other way to, so your couch sitting facing the back of the van.
Like I said great van build - it's my dream to live in and out of a van.
Thank you for your videos.
I never thought of tilting the bed back the other way. That would have been fairly simple to setup. I like that idea! The van has been sold so I unfortunately won't get to try that out. I hope you get to live your dream soon!
Very interesting
Glad you liked it!
This might be exactly what I'm looking for - a surveillance system so I can see all around my van at night while I'm inside - and with the cameras on the inside. My issue is setting this up is way over my head. I'm still having an issue as to understanding my power sources. I think I might have to hire someone to do it. Many thanks.
Great video and project. The only thing you didn't mention is how your DVR is powered, 12v? And also how long can you run the system without depleting the leisure battery? Many thanks. Correction, watching it again more carefully, you went through the power consumption in depth. Thanks for the video again.
Thanks, for another great video. Am I the only one who wonders what you look like or have I missed your introductory video with photo?
Hehe! You are the first to ask! I prefer to stay behind the camera plus avoids the haters who say terrible things - they can only be critical of my work. Glad you liked the video - it was fun to put this system together.
this was very informative. too bad you can't (or can you?) disable the IR emitters while leaving the light sensor active for more power saving. great job comparing the various camera angles, lighting and power details!
Thanks - I try to cover all the questions I had when I get interested in a project. Good question! I studied the board for quite a while. They have it made so that there is a voltage regulator (or controller) for about every 7 IRs on the board (that way if one fails you just lose a few IRs). Someone could de-solder each of the voltage regulators but there are a lot of them on the board and they are tiny. Someone more skilled in electronics could probably figure out a good way.
...I suppose just de-solder all the IR's would work. They don't have any legs to clip.
i was thinking that if the jack harness you disconnected had separate and dedicated power leads to each the IR array and light sensor, you might only have to clip (or install a physical switch) to the correct lead. I don't have electronics experience so being a tinkerer that's probably what i'd try. heh!
I'm not sure but I think the 3 wires are positive, negative and sensor. I could disable the sensor and have IRs but don't think I can have it the other way around. I saw a video where a guy put in a switch but it just kills the pos or neg so you lose power to the whole board. I could be wrong.
...fortunately you can order a whole new camera for $15.
A drop of Super Glue would have worked much better than tape
I was wondering, do you have a pipeline of ideas (4 or more stacked up) or do you focus on one project at a time, then move to your next idea?
I have a rough idea of everything I want to accomplish with the van. I then try to organize them into videos - all in my head. When I finish the current one I start thinking about how to film the next one. I was able to get 2 weeks ahead for a moment but have slipped behind trying to get one done per week. I have a great appreciation now for how much effort 10 minutes of video takes to put together. I want to do the heater video but it's not cold enough to properly show how it works. I need to remake the table but I am over budget on expenses (generator set me back). I make about $150/month with the channel so try to keep expenses under $400/month for parts. I have my eye on a huge ambulance but don't have the money or room at the house - but what a great space to create!
you had a link to the van that you are selling on ebay but I cannot find it Thank you for your help
I have gotten so wrapped up in the ambulance that I have not put on ebay yet. If you are interested in purchasing just email me at timdillen1@gmail.com.
Surveillance cameras... What is your opinion of the current "state of affairs" in boondocking safety? Should I worry? Foregoing all the routine replys, honest thoughts on the subject?
Man just don't get magnetic drives (old type also called HDD [or cached sshd])! One time you won't park your drives head properly (you forget to turn off recorder, or you will cut the power for some reason without proper shutdown and you are facing damage to disk plates.
SSD even though bit more expensive can survive all the bumps even when actively writing, so no physical damage to the drive.
That would definitely be a better way to go. Thanks for the tip and for watching.
Your systems probably a 12 volt system anyways look at the power supply that came with it running it off and inverter is the most inefficient way you can do it the voltage fluctuation will be fine
Even businesses ,police does not protect with very professional out door cameras indoir and out door with Zooms, however who live in the car,I don't think so ,i hope you save money and live with someone you can trust and drive for keep this property might work with not attractive picky people who earn the wage or temporary making money from your people to save you.People need to know the system of court and Police Department ,business owner pay taxes to village and state but not share with Police Department directly. Law in America and constitution you need to check at the library, or Starbucks where ever but you share your info with them .What I prepare is just in case who break my window prepare fish string on the glasses and especially right window at front wooden panel to emergency to prepare like shop.
